Ariana Grande

Particularly, this "No Tears Left to Cry" song. It just seems like the typical trashy melody that the bar life simpletons would subscribe to.

"Oh no! It's almost closing time - get me another pink drink!"

Not trying to stir any pots...just an observation.

What a waste of a good voice.

Her newest album came out a couple days ago. What does the DL think of it?

by Anonymousreply 2August 18, 2018 7:23 PM

She's more talented and successful than Janet.

by Anonymousreply 3August 18, 2018 7:27 PM

I think the album isn't horrible and has a few likable tracks.

by Anonymousreply 4September 16, 2018 11:12 AM

I would produce her differently and get rid of the "baby voice". There are a lot of singers who wished they could sing this well.

Am I the only one that thinks this sounds like "Frozen"

Will someone teach this girl how to enunciate?

by Anonymousreply 8September 16, 2018 11:21 AM

I think I made out six words in the entire song. What is she saying?

by Anonymousreply 9September 16, 2018 11:33 AM

Something about tears and not crying. I think.

by Anonymousreply 10September 16, 2018 11:36 AM

R7 That'll be enough out of you, Ms. Frankie Grande.

by Anonymousreply 11September 16, 2018 11:37 AM

Borderline feat. Missy Elliott skitters along quickly and pleasantly

by Anonymousreply 12September 16, 2018 11:45 AM

Her career is centered around her youth, she'll be over in 5 years if she doesn't seriously reinvent herself in a successful way, think katy perry.

by Anonymousreply 13September 16, 2018 12:00 PM

She has a stunning voice. I just don’t hear that emotional connection that I hear with, say, Whitney, to launch Ariana into the classic superstar orbit

by Anonymousreply 14September 16, 2018 12:16 PM

There are some important enunciation rules she can learn from my music.

"No Tear Left to Cry" is not at all a typical trashy melody.

It was written after the Manchester concert bombing and at the beginning of Ariana's relationship with Pete Davidson. The writers cleverly glued together two songs with different energies, written in different keys. One is about her experiencing something that's unimaginably devastating, the other is about falling in love with a bad boy who seems to understand what she's going through.

The lyrics seem trite enough to sound like typical pop, but they are efficient and poetic once you know the background. The video is mesmerizing. I'm glad there are still artists turning out pop confections like this. You may not like the style and it may seem simple on its surface, but it's a pretty complex work of collaborative art.

Was it necessary to bump this old ass thread?

by Anonymousreply 18August 6, 2020 5:31 PM

This is her only song that I like. It's nowhere near classic Mariah or Whitney though. It's not even in Celine Dion territory.

by Anonymousreply 19August 6, 2020 5:34 PM

She started out in musical theatre. The lack of enunciation is an affectation.

by Anonymousreply 20August 6, 2020 6:10 PM

I don't even like her voice but professional twit Miley Cyrus does a better version. It made me laugh to see someone in the comments accuse Miley of overenunciating.

Olly Alexander's live vocals are shaky at best but I enjoy his version more as well.

R21, that was painful. Her voice is like grated cheese.

by Anonymousreply 23August 6, 2020 10:27 PM

Very nasal, and overly twangy to my taste. But she has the range of notes and her interpretation is solid.
