How come we never hear about attractive kids being bullied?

Every time I see a news report about a bullied kid, they’re usually homely looking. It’s never a beauty queen or a cute boy. I know people aren’t specifically bullied for being ugly so what makes attractive people immune to it?

by Anonymousreply 41July 21, 2018 1:15 AM

You're misinformed op. Attractive people are bullied too, but for different reasons.

You're misinformed op. Attractive people are bullied too, but for different reasons.

by Anonymousreply 2July 20, 2018 2:51 AM

Your premise is wrong.

by Anonymousreply 3July 20, 2018 2:52 AM

I knew a really hot girl who was bullied in high school just by other girls. They said she was a stuck up bitch but she was one of the only kids who was nice to me.

by Anonymousreply 4July 20, 2018 2:53 AM

In middle school, I knew a pretty Asian girl who was bullied for her race.

by Anonymousreply 5July 20, 2018 2:56 AM

On what planet are people not bullied for specific reasons such as being ugly?

by Anonymousreply 6July 20, 2018 3:04 AM

R6 You can be bullied for being awkward, annoying, dressing “bad” and everything in between

by Anonymousreply 7July 20, 2018 3:08 AM

If the idea is that ugly is on a wider list, then I agree.

I took the OP to mean that ugly was not a reason that inspires bullying

by Anonymousreply 8July 20, 2018 3:12 AM

We do hear of it OP. I know of attractive people who were bullied. I used to think maybe that was why they were bullied. Maybe the bully was jealous of their good looks.

Bullies usually go after someone who doesn't have the power to retaliate and where they think they will get away with it, regardless of their attractiveness or lack of it; if the bully thinks there will be no repercussions and they won't be held accountable.

So for example if they knew the kids father was a cop or a judge or some high-ranking political figure who could get them in trouble they wouldn't bully that particular child. Or if they knew the person had family (like a 6' 3" big brother who was mean as hell) who would come after them.

I was bullied in the workplace once by a woman (my counterpart) who was fat and ugly and who didn't have a degree, which was required for the job. I later found out that her husband was saying nice things about me at the company holiday party, such as I was friendly, funny, easy to talk to, things like that made her jealous.

The bullying worsened the weeks following the party and I couldn't take it anymore and sent an anonymous letter to the head of the division explaining to him that she had attended the university but didn't have her degree. I had suspected she lied about her degree, but wasn't sure, so I took my chances and turned out I was right. It must have been investigated because a few weeks later she was fired. That was when the bullying finally stopped. She thought I had no recourse as I was the new kid in town and didn't have any connections. But she was wrong.

They go after people who can't get them in trouble for bullying and make them pay.

by Anonymousreply 9July 20, 2018 3:21 AM

But are you hot, R9?

by Anonymousreply 10July 20, 2018 3:24 AM

^ I was. Back then.

by Anonymousreply 11July 20, 2018 3:26 AM

It isn't so much about looks, except with girls and pretty girls get brutalized by their peers. It is about being different.

by Anonymousreply 12July 20, 2018 3:27 AM

OP don't be suck a dick!

by Anonymousreply 13July 20, 2018 3:28 AM

No one is as hated as a beautiful woman or a rich man.

by Anonymousreply 14July 20, 2018 3:39 AM

That would be completely untrue Melania.

by Anonymousreply 15July 20, 2018 3:40 AM

Except for the poor. The poor are loathed.

by Anonymousreply 16July 20, 2018 3:40 AM

You've really had to work at being hated.

by Anonymousreply 17July 20, 2018 3:40 AM

Ugly girls and ugly bottoms are some Of the biggest bullies to pretty girls and pretty bottoms,No question, jealousy is real!

by Anonymousreply 18July 20, 2018 3:42 AM

R18, I want to throw up .

by Anonymousreply 19July 20, 2018 3:46 AM

In all fairness some people are late bloomers and may be ugly as sin through high school but later will hit the gym and with good haircuts and clothes they may become hot as fuck. In which case their being bullied as youngsters is quite tragic.

by Anonymousreply 20July 20, 2018 3:51 AM

our culture is one of conformity. not as badly as the Japanese, but ANYone who sticks out in any way from whatever the prevailing power clique is, at school, home and work, is going to be bullied.

some cultures are even worse than ours. in Britain and Oz, it seems that you are also judged in how well you withstand the bullying. go soft somehow, and even those who were only observing before will join in.

really, Anglo people (and i am one, nominally) mystify me with their seeming hatred for one another.

by Anonymousreply 21July 20, 2018 3:56 AM

Women/bottoms often take an instant dislike to other women/bottoms for no apparent reason.

by Anonymousreply 22July 20, 2018 4:03 AM

"No one is as hated as a beautiful woman or a rich man."

That's funny since the most popular kids at my college, high school, middle school, and elementary school were always the pretty girls and the kids from rich families. The best looking girls were always popular and the homeliest girls never were.

by Anonymousreply 23July 20, 2018 4:07 AM

I was bullied relentlessly & I was (& still am) reasonably attractive. I was also apparently a little bit swishy (couldn't help it) so attracted a great deal of negative attention. I first remember being called a 'poof' by my (Australian) schoolmates when I was 6. When I was twelve some assholes in another class came up with a humiliating nickname for me that the whole schoolyard adopted. In my last year of high school, half a dozen of the football team made it very widely known that if they saw me at any of the saturday night parties they'd put me in hospital. As others have said, people are targeted by bullies for being different and if they're perceived as being unable to retaliate.

by Anonymousreply 24July 20, 2018 4:30 AM

Yes, effeminate boys get bullied no matter what they look like

by Anonymousreply 25July 20, 2018 4:35 AM

Good-looking femme boys sure as hell get bullied! And plain femme boys, and ordinary femme boys.

As for girls, in my experience it's mainly the ugly girls who get bullied. I've known pretty women to claim that they're bullied by ugly ones, but I've never actually seen it happen. What I HAVE seen is attractive women who get very used to being treated as special... by everyone except unattractive women.

by Anonymousreply 26July 20, 2018 7:11 AM

That reminds me of a conversation I had with a young married (to a woman) man, half my age, for whom I had fallen hard. As we walked alone one night in a desolate area, I mentioned that I had been bullied when I was young. Without missing a beat, he asked if they were bullying handsome boys back then..

by Anonymousreply 27July 20, 2018 7:31 AM

r26 try coming into a new workplace that is pretty much run by (the grunt work, not the compensation levels) the fat, dumpy and ugly women.

they will actually sabotage you and your work if you are not sufficiently like them. you don't even need to be Very Attractive. just not being one of them.

aren't there tons of threads here about gay men running afoul of these beasts? they do the same thing to even-barely above average women.

if you work with them, you are not going to be able to get shit done there.

by Anonymousreply 28July 20, 2018 7:34 AM

Yeah, women can be vicious bullies to attractive women they feel threatened by.

by Anonymousreply 29July 20, 2018 7:52 AM

R29 bottoms even more so.

by Anonymousreply 30July 20, 2018 7:53 AM

You're an idiot, OP.

by Anonymousreply 31July 20, 2018 8:24 AM

I also have never seen a pretty woman bullied. Treated inappropriately, sure, and a few times the recipient of sarcasm, but never bullied.

I have a few times seen pretty GIRLS bullied. One ridiculous fat bottom I knew would pick on one girl because he knew her parents abused her and she didn't have the emotional ability to fight back. It's the only guy I ever punched in the face. I told the girl to stay away from him but no idea if she did, he'd insinuated himself into this group of girls as their accessory gay.

"On what planet are people not bullied for specific reasons such as being ugly?"

Earth.

Girl, I know your not one of our new almiqui overlords. Miss Quiqui's philanthropic cause is anti-bullying. She's not some Melania Trump "I really don't care" coat wearing bitch. Why you gotta be stupid like that?

by Anonymousreply 33July 20, 2018 10:01 AM

Attractive women can get bullied, but it's often in a more insidious way. Another woman will just start picking at her and then bad mouthing her to others. I knew a woman who took over the invite process for every party ( even at other people's homes ). She would exclude someone and pretend they hadn't been invited. That way everyone thought she was just snubbing the group and she thought she was being excluded. The bully considered it a hostil act for the prettier woman to exist. She would get angry at random women walking down the street for dressing to sexy or something. She herself would dress much sluttier and really throw herself at men.

It's also true that some pretty women think they're being dissed by other women, because they expect everyone to treat them like straight guys do. They don't realize that they're being treated better because those guys want to fuck them.

by Anonymousreply 34July 20, 2018 4:28 PM

"I also have never seen a pretty woman bullied. Treated inappropriately, sure, and a few times the recipient of sarcasm, but never bullied. "

The only time I've seen attractive women genuinely bullied is by straight men. Straight men who want to fuck them, or who they're actually fucking or have previously fucked, straight men can be really horrible to straight women, even the attractive ones. But the straight women don't call that "bullying", they call it "a relationship".

by Anonymousreply 35July 20, 2018 7:19 PM

"Yeah, women can be vicious bullies to attractive women they feel threatened by."

In my experience, it's the opposite. The attractive women are doing the bullying, because they are used to getting their own way. I think r34 is correct about attractive women expecting everyone to fawn over them the way straight men do. I don't get people who think pretty women are such tragic victims of society, always getting bullied. LOL. No one has it easier than them.

by Anonymousreply 36July 21, 2018 12:27 AM

Don’t they all sit home by the phone every Saturday night because everyone assumes they have a date?

by Anonymousreply 37July 21, 2018 12:29 AM

My sister, a registered nurse with narcissistic personality disorder, is somewhere between ugly and average and she bullies younger, attractive nurses where she works all the time. She's the floor bully.

by Anonymousreply 38July 21, 2018 12:37 AM

Studies show attractive people (both men and women) are treated better at work, anecdotes don't really prove much, r38. It sounds like she treats EVERYONE like shit, anyway.

by Anonymousreply 39July 21, 2018 12:39 AM

^ No, not everyone. Anyone who looks better than her or who has a lot more than her. Her best friend (and only one) is a fat, ugly Trump lover. Like most bullies, she doesn't bully everyone. This way, those not bullied don't believe the ones who are bullied.

by Anonymousreply 40July 21, 2018 12:42 AM

Anyone can become the target of a bully. As mentioned upthread it's about power and control and they seek out someone who can't retaliate and doesn't have the connections or power to get the bully in trouble and force them be held accountable.

Years ago, a 6' 3", 200 pound, good looking executive (I saw his photo in the paper) with a master's degree and a great track record was bullied by his 5' tall female boss who had been with this well established company for over a decade. Not kidding. This actually happened. He was devastated over the whole thing and ended up winning the lawsuit he filed against her. This HR cunt had recruited and relocated him from out of state for a management position he had applied for in their Benefits & Compensation division of HR and then proceeded to bully him every single day. She made his life hell.

While I think unattractive people who are different are more likely to be targeted, anyone can be targeted.
