One shithole country we never talk about is Argentina

Has had two or three economic collapses in the last few years. It is beholden to the IMF and Globalist bankers. I used to wanna go to BA. But not anymore. Anyone been to BA lately? How are the gay men?

by Anonymousreply 83July 26, 2018 6:14 AM

Don't cry.

by Anonymousreply 1July 18, 2018 4:22 AM

Argentina is not a shithole country. However other Latin American people do not seem to be crazy about Argentina.

by Anonymousreply 2July 18, 2018 4:23 AM

Fuck you. Shithole countries have several economic collapses in just a few years. If you know nothing, say nothing, fuckhead.

by Anonymousreply 3July 18, 2018 4:26 AM

OP thought he'd wanted to go to Buenos Aires, but now doesn't for some bullshit reason that has nothing to do with anything. But wait--are the men hot? OP is a fucking moron.

by Anonymousreply 4July 18, 2018 4:29 AM

Name ONE latin american country that ISN'T a shithole? Don't think there is one. Maybe Bolivia.

by Anonymousreply 5July 18, 2018 4:49 AM

Oh do fuck off, r5, you numbskull.

by Anonymousreply 6July 18, 2018 4:52 AM

Argentina is not a shit hole. Buenos Aires is one of the world's great cities. There's a bit of faded glory, but it's not a shit hole.

by Anonymousreply 7July 18, 2018 4:54 AM

Chile is lovely. Colombia is quickly becoming better and better.

by Anonymousreply 8July 18, 2018 4:57 AM

Uruguay is one of the most progressive countries in the world these days and in perfectly good financial shape as far as I know. Colombia is booming.

OP is only posting this to show how hip he is by dissing Globalists.

by Anonymousreply 9July 18, 2018 5:09 AM

Chile and Uruguay are the most successful countries in Latin America.

Buenos Aires is beautiful in many areas. The outlying areas in Buenos Aires province though are incredibly depressing (La Matanza for instance).

by Anonymousreply 10July 18, 2018 5:11 AM

The fair skinned people in Argentina consider themselves European, except south of the equator. The rest of South America considers them snotty. The natives consider them murderers.

by Anonymousreply 11July 18, 2018 6:20 AM

R9 Anyone who supports Hillary is a Globalist. So lots of those fascists on DL. They think they are supreme when they are just scum.

by Anonymousreply 12July 18, 2018 6:31 AM

R6 Big words from an illiterate, ignorant piece of shit.

by Anonymousreply 13July 18, 2018 6:33 AM

Damn, some of these idiot trolls could really benefit from leaving their basements and actually seeing the rest of the world.

On the other hand, it would be rather evil to subject other countries to these morons.

by Anonymousreply 14July 18, 2018 6:36 AM

R14 speaks the truth, no one in the world wants to suffer the stupid, illiterate, grossly obese Americunts.

by Anonymousreply 15July 18, 2018 6:38 AM

Costa Rica is beautuful, the people are friendly and becoming very gay friendly. On 1 July 2018, President Carlos Alvarado Quesada issued a public apology to members of the LGBT community for the past persecution and discrimination they faced from the Costa Rican state

Argentina has been considered to have the most beautiful people in South America (large German gene pool). However, given this racial mix, unlike, say, the Brazilians (whom they consider a step away from jungle b***s), they are much more reserved, and consider themselves infinitely more sophisticated. So unlike Rio or San Paulo, they're not going to jump into your bed simply because you drop a match. Being often more cosmopolitan than the average American, bumpkin OP might find himself being given short shrift.

Christopher Isherwood wrote a travel book about South America in the 50s, Condor And The Cows. He met up with one of his old Berlin boyfriends, who'd become a successful businessman in Buenos Aires. It's a lovely book.

by Anonymousreply 17July 18, 2018 7:15 AM

[quote] However, given this racial mix, unlike, say, the Brazilians (whom they consider a step away from jungle b***s), they are much more reserved, and consider themselves infinitely more sophisticated.

Argentinians are not reserved, and I don't know any Argentinians who would consider themselves as much. As far as sophisticated, yes the Porteños of Buenos Aires can be sophisticated, just like any people in a country's largest metropolis. Once you leave further and further away from B.A., people are just like anywhere else really. Porteños are not popular with the rest of the country. I have Argentinian in-laws and they have let this be known to me repeatedly.

by Anonymousreply 18July 18, 2018 7:21 AM

I wanna be a part of BA, Buenos Aires (big apple)

by Anonymousreply 19July 18, 2018 7:53 AM

I was in Buenos Aires last winter - it was lovely, OP is a dolt. I'd move to Chile in a heartbeat if I wasn't afraid of the earthquakes.

by Anonymousreply 20July 18, 2018 8:10 AM

Argentinas ethnic cleansing was very successful. Fascist mentality. Good uncut dick I hear though.

by Anonymousreply 21July 18, 2018 9:02 AM

I guess this makes a change from talking about the shithole that is the US.

by Anonymousreply 22July 18, 2018 9:08 AM

R5 Bolivia is among the poorest countries in Latin America. God damn, do gringos know ANYTHING?

by Anonymousreply 23July 18, 2018 9:20 AM

Not been to Argentina personally but know some who have and they loved it. A lot of the buildings in Buenos Aires are quite run down apparently, but there's a certain charm to that. I also heard that nice restaurants etc have locked doors so you can't just wander in, this is due to quite a high crime rate.

As for the men...well, I think the porn star (now retired) Marco Blaze was Argentinian, and he was very hot with a huge dick. No idea whether that's typical though.

by Anonymousreply 24July 18, 2018 9:50 AM

A friend lives there and I visited him last, year. It is not a shithole. Buenos Aires is a sophisticated city with some lovely areas and some run down ones. There isn't a lot of crime. The big problem is pickpockets and other non violent thefts.

I was afraid to travel internally but the airports and local airlines were better, thuan most in the US The weird thing about Argentina is how white is is. Everybody is some mix of Spanish, Italian and German, no black or Indian heritage at all.

by Anonymousreply 25July 18, 2018 10:13 AM

Have known a few Argentinians in New York. The women are stylish and educated and lovely. The ones I’ve known are feminine and refined, and I get the feeling they find American women coarse.

by Anonymousreply 26July 18, 2018 10:30 AM

"Shithole" is ridiculous and could only be tossed around by someone who never visited the country.

At the turn of the 20th century, Buenos Aires had to have been extraordinary. City planners based it on world cities like Paris and New York, and it bears a resemblance to both. As others noted, there's a faded grandeur to it, but there are still very beautiful and very rich neighborhoods in the city, and it remains cosmopolitan. And there are other parts you do not want to visit, day or night, including the major shopping district on Florida.

The rest of the country, because of its size, also has an incredible range of natural wonders, from Iguazu Falls and the rainforests of the north, to the Mendoza wine region near the Andes, and the Perito Moreno glacier to the south.

Because Argentina experienced the same influx of German, British, French and Italian immigrants, as well as European Jewry in the 19th and early 20th century as in the US, Argentineans are often indistinguishable from a white midwesterner. There's also plenty of men and women with a more typically Latin look - you will see men like Nacho Figueras or Dionisio Heiderscheid walking around.

The country has been going through financial instability, as current President Mauricio Macri is trying to stabilize the economy after 12 years of the Kirschner administration, which could have led to another Venezuela. I think at the moment, the Argentinean peso is the world's worst performing currency (which also means the value of a US dollar goes far). Recent stories though seem to indicate that the country is on its way to recovery, though it has been a very difficult few years for them. So... like one would do anywhere else, anyone going to Argentina or B.A., keep your wits about you, and don't flash around expensive objects and you'll be fine.

by Anonymousreply 27July 18, 2018 2:59 PM

OP has never been out of the US or his own state most likely.

by Anonymousreply 28July 18, 2018 3:03 PM

The only thing i've noticed is that a lot of those older4me videos are of Argentine men.

Do they have other kinds of porn?

by Anonymousreply 29July 18, 2018 3:05 PM

There is a middle aged American guy on XTube that has been posting videos from his apartment in Buenos Aires for years. He doesn't seem to work for a living. It must be cheap to live there.

by Anonymousreply 30July 18, 2018 4:07 PM

[R30] Link?

by Anonymousreply 31July 18, 2018 4:16 PM

I always wanted to visit BA but the crime is incredibly bad. Not as bad as Brazil but still bad.

by Anonymousreply 32July 18, 2018 6:31 PM

I was there last year. Argentina has some economic issues, but is by no means a shithole, in fact it would be better than substantial chunks of Europe now. Yes, BA is a bit run down and shabby in parts, but it is relatively safe if you have decent situational awareness and some sense, just like most cities. Traffic is a bit horrendous, but all the parts of BA you'd really want to see as a tourist are quite walkable if your'e marginally fit. There's a beautiful park with wildlife and a very active cruising section as well which I stumbled across trying to get a shot of a capybara. Lots of beautiful architecture. And the men.... yes, many of them are stunning.

R27 is pretty much spot on. Its not as cheap as all that though, food isnt as cheap as I thought it would be but accommodation is extremely reasonable. One thing though -internet is diabolical. Hotel wifi is intermittent and slow, and we were in 4-5 star places. Mobile internet is beyond abysmal, and is sold in tiny chunks like 50-100 Mb, not the big 5-10Gb lumps I'm used to

Uruguay and Chile are both also thriving well too, with a lot of construction and new infrastructure going on, more so than BA. Had a few days in Montevideo and Santiago

by Anonymousreply 33July 19, 2018 6:33 AM

R33 Thanks for sharing your firsthand experience. I hate these asshats who comment when they know fuck all about a country. Argentina's finances have been fucked for over a hundred years. They just have never been able to get their shit together.

by Anonymousreply 34July 19, 2018 6:44 AM

I was going to do Evita but Oliver Stone annoyed me so I quit. Ten years later Madonna made it and didn't even get nominated. Pity.

my fave fun fact: Buenos Aires has more psychologist per citizen than every other city in the world. Apparently it's the most freudian place on earth.

by Anonymousreply 38July 19, 2018 7:35 AM

In Argentina all seems to breathe freedom and peace and to make one forget the world and its sad turmoils.

by Anonymousreply 39July 19, 2018 7:42 AM

How very dare you OP. I love Argies and Buenos Aires is one of the great cities to visit.

I like their grills and fried empanadas. The one thing I never thought I would find in Feria De Matadores was tamales. lol that cracked me up.

by Anonymousreply 47July 19, 2018 8:01 PM

I was there in 2011, an election year, when the Glamorous Christina was priming the economic pump, and the city was pretty lively. Of course, it was all an illusion that came crashing down, as it does in cycles. I never saw so many bookstores, and all of them had HUGE sections devoted to psychology, psychiatry, and literary theory.

The opera house is staggering, but the talent inside is underwhelming.

Back then, the city was crawling with cash-flush Brazlians on weekend jaunts, and the locals considered them rude, vile pigs.

by Anonymousreply 48July 19, 2018 8:08 PM

Did you make it to El Ateneo, R48, the bookstore in a former theatre? It's really beautiful.

I'd like to go to Argentina sometime but I never see flight deals there. I just checked and right now it is over $2000 RT from here to Buenos Aires in Sept. and October. Flights to Paris for example are running from $458 RT for the same time period. BA seems like the kind of place I'd check out - only if I found a really good airfare.

by Anonymousreply 50July 19, 2018 8:28 PM

It took 50 replies to mention the wine industry there? I have dreams of seducing one of those sexy polo players over a fine Malbec someday.

by Anonymousreply 51July 19, 2018 8:30 PM

There is a DEEP abiding ignorance about Latin America on this thread.

by Anonymousreply 52July 19, 2018 8:33 PM

[quote][R38] pulls facts out of her ass. Sure, Jan.

Actually R38 is correct, it's fairly well known that an exceptionally high percentage of Argentinians (and Buenos Aires residents in particular) see psychologists. It's kind of a national obsession.

by Anonymousreply 53July 19, 2018 8:36 PM

R51, see R27.

by Anonymousreply 54July 19, 2018 8:46 PM

Not a shithole at all. Buenos Aires is my favorite city - a warm, cheap Paris. I live there if I had the family connections.

by Anonymousreply 55July 19, 2018 8:59 PM

Too bad airfares are so high to get there. Anyone know a deal out of Los Angeles?

by Anonymousreply 56July 19, 2018 9:05 PM

What's new, Buenos Aires?

Don't I have a little touch of star quality? My daddy thinks so.

And yet, there's a lot to learn from the examples of Central and South America for the kleptocracy taking place right now in the United States. And at least there, the countries go on strike or stage a good coup d'etat once in a while.

by Anonymousreply 67July 20, 2018 6:02 PM

Would I want to be the First Lady of a shithole country?

If I did, I would've thrown myself at Donald instead of Andrew.

Think about it.

by Anonymousreply 68July 20, 2018 6:26 PM

One of my favorite cities. Gorgeous men, amazing architecture (and it’s all there - never been bombed), low prices in US$, great food, great shopping.

Tigre, north of the city, is the equal of any upscale suburb in the US. Yes, there are shantytowns (the economy has been mismanaged for years - at the end of WWII Argentina was one of the wealthiest countries on earth - but since Peron it’s been mostly downhill) but it’s hardly a shithole.

by Anonymousreply 69July 20, 2018 6:42 PM

I always thought it was slightly bombed in one or more of the several coup attempts against Peron. One question I have always wondered is what Western Hemisphere city has been the most heavily bombed, excluding Pearl Harbor, of . course. I believe Guatemala City was bombed in the coup against Arbenz.

by Anonymousreply 70July 20, 2018 6:53 PM

There was a bombing in 1955 at Plaza de Mayo, near the Casa Rosada, which was staged by the Argentine Navy and Air Force as an anti-Peronist measure. Also, I recall a 1994 suicide bombing that leveled the Israeli Embassy in B.A.

by Anonymousreply 71July 20, 2018 7:02 PM

Buildings were strafed/bombed for less than five hours by the Argentine AF in 1955. I was making the comparison to Europe - in particular - where a lot of what was isn’t there any more: it’s been rebuilt or replaced. Remarkable architecture in BA remains unscathed from earlier eras. It’s not the same thing to compare one incident to years of aerial bombardment as was the case in London, Berlin, Hamburg, Warsaw, Japan, etc.

The bombing lasted for the afternoon and destroyed two floors of one wing of the Navy Ministry building. Peronist forces burned down eight churches, two basilicas and a cathedral that evening in retaliation because the Catholic Church supported the anti-Peronist coup attempt. The rest of BA’s architecture remains unscathed. The Singer Building, the Colon Opera House, the Museo National, the Palaciode Aguas Calientes, El Ateneo Grand Splendid, The Metropolitan Cathedral, the Congressional Palace, the Kavanagh Building, the Obelisco, Galerias Pacifico, Retiro Station, the Abasto and hundreds more remain as built. The bombing of the Israeli Embassy in 1992 was followed by the bombing of the AMIA, a Jewish community center in 1994. However destructive and tragic, these and car bombings don’t compare to an air war that leveled entire cities.

Much of BA’s architecture dates from the period of great wealth from the late 1800’s until the 1930’s. It's nice to see so much of it remains.

by Anonymousreply 72July 20, 2018 8:02 PM

Thanks for the info. I love Buenos Aires.

by Anonymousreply 73July 20, 2018 9:29 PM

Who were the original natives of that region? That area was not part of the Inca Empire, right? Was the ethnic cleansing as thorough as in North America and Australia?

by Anonymousreply 74July 20, 2018 9:37 PM

R74 Oh like you give a shit about the Natives. Fucking Mary!

by Anonymousreply 75July 21, 2018 1:15 AM

[quote] Who were the original natives of that region? That area was not part of the Inca Empire, right? Was the ethnic cleansing as thorough as in North America and Australia?

Most of Argentina was not part of the Inca Empire although part of the northwestern provinces were. The rest of the country was relatively sparsely populated, and the indigenous people were either wiped out or bred with the Spaniards (the traditional Argentine gauchos, for example, were a result of Spanish and indigenous relations).
