Just wanted to post a thank you to the poster who, towards the end of the previous thread, laid out a fantastic - if terrifying - summary of the detail of Mueller's indictment against the Russians. It's a shame most people won't see or realise the extent of the detail Mueller has. Also, if anyone were in any doubt, he clearly knows EVERYTHING.

[quote]Article 43, Subsection A: An individual the indictment identifies only as "a known member of congress" contacted an online GRU dummy persona, ("Guccifer 2.0") and requested stolen documents related to their political opponent, and the GRU / "Guccifer" responded by giving said member of congress access to the stolen data they were requesting.
It was not a known member of congress. It was a candidate for congress.

We know Trump (almost always) lies.
We know Trump projects.
We know he [italic] craves [/italic] attention (it doesn’t matter what they say so long as he’s in the press), and , besides, even then he sees himself in the most flattering light.
So, when he says “no collusion” (or conspiracy) we know he’s lying.
When he accused Hillary (“no, not a puppet; [italic] you’re [/italic] the puppet”) he was projecting.
When he claims he’s a billionaire, it’s likely he does have billions of dollars in [italic] assets [/italic]. But he likely also owes tens of billions of dollars in payments and [italic] liabilities [/italic], undoubtedly to Putin-connected Russians. THAT, I suspect, is Putin’s hold.
If Donald is a good boy, gets Sanctions lifted and/or weakens Western hegemony - Putin’s power and wealth will skyrocket - - - and Donald's debts will be forgiven. If he fails, Putin’s minions will move in for the kill, and The Donald - who has nowhere else to go for money - will be strung out: the proven failure he’s always feared he is.

Trump tweets:
Our relationship with Russia has NEVER been worse thanks to many years of U.S. foolishness and stupidity and now, the Rigged Witch Hunt!)
@jaketapper:
The Russian Foreign Ministry “liked” the president’s tweet, in which Mr. Trump blamed *the U.S.* for poor U.S.-Russia relations, and faulted *the investigation* into the Russian cyberattack on the U.S. rather than the Russian cyberattack itself.

So - it’s after dinner here in Oz - and we finished watching something and switched to the nightly current affairs programme that follows the news on the ABC (like the BBC here downunder). Supposedly our most trusted news source...
In spite of our vile right wing government’s attempt to fuck it over. Still - it’s clear they are making inroads...
So guess who was interviewed tonight?
Via satellite - with Sebastian fucking Gorka.
Seriously? WTF???
I despair. I just switched it off. And will email them tomorrow. It’s just so fucked to be normalising RWNJs like him on out public broadcaster.
It really feels like the whole world has gone crazy.

This was posted at the end of the last thread, but it really bears repeating here. Particularly this paragraph:
[quote] This is an extraordinary moment. It is without equal, not only in American history but in modern history. [bold] A hostile foreign power intervened in our election to help elect a man president who has since actively served their interests and has defended them at every turn. [/bold]
Treason. This cannot be repeated often enough. We must rid ourselves of this traitor who advances Russia's interests at the expense of our own.

The analysis of the indictment copied into R581 etc. of the previous thread (beginning "Ok, so I've actually sat down and read the entire 29 page Mueller indictment against the 12 Russian intelligence officers, and it is totally insane") was originally someone's tweets (or blog?), if I remember correctly. I couldn't find the original by googling, but I found it here for those interested.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | July 16, 2018 12:43 PM |
What Mueller Knows - and What He’ll Pursue Next:
Garrett Graff: “Examining the public bread crumbs of Mueller’s investigation, though, gives some indication about what’s left that we don’t know—the active and ongoing investigative work that Mueller’s team is pursuing that hasn’t seen the light of day. In broad buckets, there are at least eight significant areas of the investigation yet to be penciled in by Mueller.”
“Spoiler alert: Nearly all of these open avenues involve not only Americans, but sometimes even senior campaign, transition, and White House aides to Donald Trump.”
by Anonymous | reply 47 | July 16, 2018 1:18 PM |
Ok, so I've actually sat down and read the entire 29 page Mueller indictment against the 12 Russian intelligence officers, and it is totally insane. I literally can't believe the scope of this thing. I'm making this status public (i.e., shareable), because people need to know about this shit. There is no way you can read the actual indictment and not conclude that 1) there WAS a RUSSIAN conspiracy, 2) that the scope of that conspiracy was GARGANTUAN, 3) that it was organized BY THE RUSSIAN GOVERNMENT [i.e., there's no way Putin didn't know about this], 4) That people connected to the Trump campaign [and, shockingly, other U.S. Gov't officials] WERE INVOLVED, and 5) this is just the beginning. If Mueller has already uncovered this amount of information with such specificity regarding the goings-on in far-away Russia, there's NO WAY some serious shit isn't going to hit the fan going forward right here in the U.S.
So, without further ado, here are the highlights:
by Anonymous | reply 48 | July 16, 2018 1:28 PM |
Article 1 of the indictment states that the Russian government actively set up multiple intelligence units (known as the GRU) with the sole aim of interfering with the 2016 election. Two of these units, 26165, and 74455, were specifically tasked with acquiring and releasing stolen documents via hacking.
Article 2 specifically calls this a "conspiracy" and states that the 12 indicted Russians had contacts with "persons known and unknown to the Grand Jury."
Article 3: The aforementioned Russian intelligence units deliberately targeted the Clinton campaign.
Article 4: They deliberately targeted the DNC as a whole.
Article 6: In June of 2016, they released TENS OF THOUSANDS of hacked documents using fictitious online personas.
Article 10: One of the intelligence officers, Boris Antonov, oversaw a department within 26165 tasked with hacking the U.S. military, governmental (i.e., political) and non-governmental organizations. [i.e., they were spying on every level of our gov't].
Articles 12-18: The Russian hackers often used various online aliases, both male and female, such as (but not limited to) "Kate Milton," "James McMorgans," and "Karen Millen." Sergey Morgachev, another Russian hacker, was a Lt. Colonel in the Russian military. He created the hacking malware used by dept. 26165, known as "X-Agent." Another hacker named in the indictment, Nikolay Kozachek, was a Lt. Captain in the Russian military. Artem Malyshev (also named in the indictment) was a Second Lieutenant in the Russian military. Aleksandr Osadchuk (also named in the indictment) is a Colonel in the Russian Military. He oversaw the creation and dissemination of anti-Clinton material online.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | July 16, 2018 1:29 PM |
Article 19: Russian Military Officer Aleksey Potemkin, assigned to 74455, supervised the creation of fake social media accounts used (among other things) in the release of DNC documents.
Article 21: Over 300 individuals affiliated with the DNC were SUCCESSFULLY targeted. (Article 21 is lengthy, and includes a detailed, play-by-play account of how 26165 and 74455 achieved their aims. Spoiler alert: It's crazy).
Article 24, subsection B: The Russian's hacking of the DNC was so advanced that they were able to monitor individual computers in real time. Subsection C states that their malware sent actual screenshots of DNC computer activity to a server in Arizona that the Russians had access to. They were also able to capture keystrokes entered by DCCC employees.
Article 24, subsection D: They monitored individual DNC / DCCC employees for hours on end, and obtained information about DNC fundraising plans and even banking information (as well as other personal information).
Article 26 subsection A: By June 2016 the Russians had complete access to 33 DNC computers, totally and completely.
Article 27: The GRU gained access to information regarding DNC opposition research, field operation plans, and the Benghazi operation.
Article 28, subsection B: Aside from the server in Arizona, the GRU also stored data to a server in Illinois, to which they filtered large gigabytes of stolen information via a program they developed known as "X-Tunnel."
by Anonymous | reply 50 | July 16, 2018 1:30 PM |
Article 32: The DNC became aware of Russian attempts to hack their servers and hired a security firm to identify the extent of the intrusions. The security firm (identified in the indictment only as "company 1") also put in place measures to halt GRU access to DNC computers, but, despite this, the GRU was so efficient that they continued to maintain access via "X-Agent" well through October of 2016.
Article 33: The GRU immediately became aware of "company 1's" (referring here to the security firm that the DNC hired) efforts, and took countermeasures in response. This included investigating / hacking "company 1" itself, and later, apparently as a retaliatory measure against the DNC, setting up a wesbsite that redirected from a DNC online political donations website, to another website set up by the GRU (in other words, the GRU took funds from DNC donors, using the pretext of a false DNC donations website).
Articles 35-36: The GRU set up another website, the sole purpose of which was to release stolen DNC documents. They created fake social media accounts that falsely attributed this website's creation to a group of "American hacktivists." It received over 1 million hits.
Article 37: The GRU has also released stolen documents dating back to 2015 (i.e., they've been up to this for quite a while).
Article 40: The notion of a "lone Romanian hacker" being responsible for the DNC leaks was a fiction deliberately created by the GRU and disseminated via fake social media accounts.
Article 42: Using a popular blogging site, the GRU set up a blog that used the most "searched for" keywords by conspiracy theorists, (e.g., "Illuminati," "Worldwide," "Conspiracy," et. al.), -and used this website to further disseminate the "lone Romanian hacker" conspiracy theory. (Article 46 of the indictment further states that later entries on this blog site posted articles positing that the released, stolen documents had "nothing to do with Russia.")
Article 43, Subsection A: An individual the indictment identifies only as "a known member of congress" contacted an online GRU dummy persona, ("Guccifer 2.0") and requested stolen documents related to their political opponent, and the GRU / "Guccifer" responded by giving said member of congress access to the stolen data they were requesting.
Article 43, Subsection B: The GRU released stolen documents to what the indictment identifies as "a lobbyist and online source of political news."
by Anonymous | reply 51 | July 16, 2018 1:31 PM |
Subsection C: "Guccifer" / The GRU sent stolen documents pertaining to the "Black Lives Matter" movement to a reporter (unidentified in the indictment), to which the reporter not only responded, but offered to write an article using said information.
Article 44: The GRU, posing as "Guccifer 2.0" wrote to a person who was in regular contact with SENIOR MEMBERS OF THE TRUMP CAMPAIGN. (The indictment includes direct quotes of their online conversation, and this is CLEARLY referring to Roger Stone).
Article 45, subsection B: The GRU, using an alias, contacted a U.S. reporter (unnamed in the indictment) and ultimately gave them access to stolen DNC data.
Articles 47-49: Here the indictment refers to an organization, identified only as "Organization 1," [I'm thinking, Wikileaks] -which actually reached out to the GRU aliases seeking the stolen emails / data. "Organization 1" is directly quoted by the indictment as having communicated to "Guccifer," that they should "send [Organization 1] any new material [i.e., stolen data] here for us to review and it will have a much higher impact than what you are doing." Organization 1 was given, and later released, said data, approximately 3 days before the Democratic National Convention. In total, between October and November of 2016, over 50,000 stolen documents were released.
Articles 50-79 : Lists the counts against the 11 Russian Military Personnel, which include charges of 1) Conspiracy to Commit Offenses Against The United States, 2) Aggravated Identity Theft, 3) Conspiracy to Launder Money [according to the indictment, over 95,000 USD$ was laundered], i.e. using cryptocurrency, that was then use to register domain names, set up websites, create server infrastructure, et. al.,3) The Use of Transferred Money To Commit Crimes Against The United States, 4) General Unlawful Conspiracy [It should be noted that many of these counts have sub-crimes attached to them, such as unlawful hacking, etc.].
So, there it is folks. This WAS A RUSSIAN CONSPIRACY, massive in scope, directly linked to the Trump campaign, the sole aim of which was to subvert Democracy. There is no way around it.

Too good not to go viral on every available space, T-shirts etcetera. Snappy, shocking, and with reference both to childhood innocence and an entire country corrupted.
Needs a graphic as punchy as say 'I Love NY', beneath a grainy b/w mugshot-type image of Trump.
The last word of course needs to be in upper case to signify the country betrayed. The 'R' already speaks for itself.

If the next round of indictments involved just those actors referred to in the above breakdown of Mueller’s Russian Officers Indictment - that would be THRILLING.
I know we’re all calling for the Trump kids or Hannity or McConnell or Ryan’s heads, but nabbing those involved in the Russians Indictment links individuals and entities to specific actions that would unequivocally connect to those most loathed.
Mueller’s thoroughness means no question about anyone’s guilt and provides absolutely NO wiggleroom.

It makes me think the nation's culture is fucked up on an entrenched level, and that Americans don't have a happy future awaiting them while the firearms owners are being brainwashed and inculcated by enemy states. Who's killing the Russians? Russia, and it's not the enemy Russians getting killed, it's Putin's opponents. That and the "oh, I support pedophiles and child porn addicts who support the President because Killary and email servers" dolts who vote in several meanings of faithfully don't seem to be enough of a threat to spur an apathetic or extremely low-information set of American adults to vote against them.

I'm obsessed with this indictment against Maria, a/k/a Mariia. I think a lot is going to come from this.
Maria wrote her Russian counter-part in early November 2016 and said she heard (unnamed person) was going to be made Sec of State. She told the Russian to ask what their people thought of that. Christopher Steele said that Russia told Trump in late November not to make Trump's first pick, Romney, Sec of State. It was in a memo that wasn't included in the published dossier.

Of course, 214. Stephen Miller writes many of his statements.
It is too conciliatory and polished to come from Trump. Trump, himself, is probably having a meltdown on the plane, hearing about all the criticism he's receiving.

A poster mentioned earlier that we’ve been using the word “treason” for some time now.
Is this the turning point for that word to go mainstream? I don’t mean to suggest that Donald J. Trump is guilty of treason, though he may well be, but that he is being investigated and it appears possible that his campaign and individuals associated with it committed acts of treason.

“Just hours after President Trump’s press conference with Vladimir Putin, the Justice Department announced the arrest of a Russian national — Maria Butina — for secretly trying to influence US politics at Russia’s behest.
An affidavit filed by an FBI agent asserts that Butina tried to cozy up to a gun rights organization so she could influence a major political party, all the while working for a top Russian central bank official and trying to advance the interests of the Russian state — and not registering as a foreign agent.
Though the affidavit does not name many of the people and groups involved, previous reporting and context clues make it clear that the gun rights group is the National Rifle Organization, the party is the Republican Party, and the Russian official is Alexander Torshin.”

10 Things You Didn't Know About Mark Warner
1. His interest in politics came from his eighth-grade social studies teacher, Jim Tyler, who inspired him to work for social and political change during the tumultuous year of 1968.
2. Warner studied political science at George Washington University. He was the valedictorian for the Class of 1977 and the first in his family to graduate from college. While in college, he worked on Capitol Hill for Sen. Abe Ribicoff, D-Conn., and Rep. Chris Dodd, D-Conn.
3. When Warner's parents were visiting him during his college years, he got them two tickets for a tour of the White House. When his father asked him why he didn't get a ticket for himself, Warner replied, "I'll see the White House when I'm president."
4. While attending Harvard Law School, Warner coached the school's first women's intramural basketball team. He was the only member of his class that did not receive an offer to work at a one of the law firms where he did summer internships. The only offer he did receive was from a family friend.
[bold]5. Unlike other Senate committees, there is no ranking member from the opposing party on the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence. Instead there is a vice chairman. So if Sen. Richard Burr, R-N.C., the chairman, is away, Warner is in charge. Most votes are unanimous and the committee is considered less partisan than others.
6. Burr and Warner have a strong relationship. Both declined to donate money to the other's opponent during their respective re-election campaigns.[/bold]
7. After failed business ventures in energy and real estate, Warner became a telecommunications tycoon in the emerging cellphone industry. As an early investor in the technology he made a fortune. When he ran for Virginia governor in 2001 he listed his wealth at $200 million.
8. In 1996, it was Warner vs. Warner on the ballot for U.S. Senator from Virginia. Mark Warner attempted to win the seat against longtime incumbent Republican Sen. John Warner. John Warner held the seat for 30 years until he decided not to seek re-election in 2008. Since then, the men have become close friends. [bold]The elder Warner, no relation, has crossed party lines to endorse the younger Warner. John Warner told Mark his work on the Senate Intelligence Committee would be his "finest hour."[/bold]
9. He was once a member of the "Gang of 6" – a group of bipartisan senators who wanted to help craft a budget deal. He went so far as to have the group to his house while it was under a massive renovation. The project went nowhere, and the experience left him with a sour taste in his mouth, in part because then-Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, a fellow Democrat, dismissed the efforts as "happy talk."
10. He married his wife Lisa Collis in 1989. She is often described as the exact opposite of Warner, being more reserved and quiet than her husband. The couple lives in Alexandria, Virginia, and has three daughters.

3. What role did Sergey Kislyak, the GOP convention, and the finances of the Russian Embassy play?
The former Russian ambassador to the US (who was replaced in September by Anatoly Antonov) has been a puzzling figure over the nearly 18 months since the investigation began. It was his meetings with now-Attorney General Jeff Sessions, on the sidelines of the Republican National Convention—a convention that saw still unexplained attempts to make the platform more pro-Russia—that led to Rosenstein taking charge of the investigation. And ongoing revelations about meetings with Sessions and Jared Kushner and telephone calls with Michael Flynn have given him a shadowy Rasputin-like presence in the entire affair.

8. How relevant is Cambridge Analytica and was there a coordinated effort by the Trump campaign or associates to gather intelligence or untoward opposition research on Hillary Clinton?
We know that Mueller has been examining the notorious—and now defunct—data firm behind Trump’s victory that was funded by top GOP donor Robert Mercer, including interviewing former employees and the banks that worked with it. Investigators have evidently told those one-time employees that their focus is on the firm and “associated US persons,” a phrase that seems to imply interest in as-yet-unknown Americans coordinating with the British firm.

9. Do people like Carter Page and Felix Sater matter?
It’s hard to keep track of the numerous figures who float in and out of the Trump-Mueller-Russia investigation orbit; some, like Michael Caputo, may not end up mattering at all in the final outcome. Yet there are others, like Carter Page—who was a target of a federal counterintelligence surveillance warrant through much of 2016—and Felix Sater, a one-time intelligence asset himself, who may be bit players in the entire matter or may end up proving to be consequential figures.

“By the end of the press conference, even Putin looked slightly embarrassed. He wanted Trump to go down in the third round like a bought-off boxer, but Trump kept laying it on thicker and thicker, swooning over the Russian leader, making winky-googly eyes, and repeating the worst tropes of Russia’s propaganda machine. Trump didn’t just roll over. He rolled over, stuck out his tongue, and begged Vladimir Putin to slap on a choke collar and rub his belly. An American President has never before abased himself like this before a foreign leader, and the horrified eyes of every American outside the Trump cult watched in horror”

People on TV keep asking what Putin has on Trump. IMO, It's money. Period. Trump is in hock to Putin up to his eyeballs. Putin could probably ruin Trump in less than 48 hours. Putin also knows about the money laundering because he orchestrated it. Face it. Trump is an errand boy for Putin. He's a celebrity mouthpiece who runs around carrying Putin's program the EU, NATO, anti immigration, nationalism , etc. and the trade and tariff moves all of it to weaken our country.
The problem is Trump is not subtle and he has no finesse. He is a man of low cunning but he is not knowledgeable, not well informed. Putin is playing him. My opinion of what happened between them today? I think Putin did some theatrical anger. He went into the meeting 40 minutes late, and I would bet Putin walked in pissed off at Mueller's charges. He made sure to put Trump on the defensive, then they probably talked about the situation with the EU and NATO, etc. and finally Putin ended the meeting with a warning, a very veiled warning to Trump maybe indirectly suggesting things better get back on track soon.
Trump is probably worried about the Mid terms. But the thing is, Trump is grovelling and everyone is calling him Putin's puppet. He looked very ill at ease and uncomfortable at the podium. It was clear is he was very subservient. There may come a time when Putin decides Trump is no longer a stable, valuable operative. He may become more trouble than he's worth. So we also need to look beyond Trump to see who Putin latched on to next.

Trump knows the Russians helped him win. He's arrogant enough to believe he deserved the help and it was justified. What he hates is that WE know he got put in office by Russians.
by Anonymous | reply 337 | July 17, 2018 12:20 AM |
Trump is stupid, and Putin is Intelligent. That is one big difference. But the other may matter more: Putin actually gives a shit about Russia, about it's place in the world, and national greatness, and how it can claw it's way back into the kind of importance it had as late as the 1980s.
Trump only gives a shit about himself and money. He has no plan, no ideas, no vision, no interest in anything larger than that. Putin can probably always offer him some kind of purely personal monetary benefit and that's good enough for Trump. There is a total mismatch about their goals, and so Putin can easily win. He can get what he wants for Russia and throw Trump a few rubles to keep him happy.

The fact that people are now openly calling it treason -- which is what it is and has been all along -- is at least some movement in the right direction. But it only matters if those in power actually do something about it. We cannot let a traitor to the United States remain in office. He must be removed, prosecuted, and suffer the penalty for being a traitor to his country.
by Anonymous | reply 350 | July 17, 2018 12:57 AM |
those in power, is technically US R350. We actually can affect things. We still have elections (for now), we still have a Constitution (for now), we still have bodies and voices. We are actually going to have to make this happen. We will vote in November, but that may not be enough. We may need massive demonstrations, maybe a national strike, maybe a national boycott. Something. But this is one of those moments when "those in power" means US.

This man should never have been in office to begin with, but now that it is apparent to all what he has done he has to be removed as swiftly as possible. He is a corrupting, corrosive force on the United States and its allies. He has to be replaced immediately -- and not by his venal sidekick, Mike Pence.

There was a huge amount of pro-Trump shit for about the first 6-9 months of the administration, and now I can't remember the last time I saw a fawning article. First day in office . . .
[quote]Traveling to CIA headquarters in Virginia in what the White House pointed out was Trump’s first official act in office, Trump stood before the agency’s memorial to its dead officers and delivered an often self-referential and highly political speech that included an untruthful claim that his inauguration was better attended than those of Barack Obama.
[quote]Trump vowed “a thousand percent” support for an intelligence corps he has repeatedly and publicly insulted – including recently likening intelligence officials to “Nazi Germany” – and suggested they would have an open checkbook in his White House. Any feud between himself and the agency was the result of a dishonest press corps, the president astonished some by saying.

FWIW, headlines in the two left-of-centre UK papers this morning:
'Daily Mirror' - "Putin's Poodle." Strap line in full caps - "Trump branded a traitor." Subheading - "President accused of treason after he backs Russian leader over election meddling."
'The Guardian' - "Nothing short of treasonous." Subheading - "Trump accused over Putin talks."
Other papers don't yet go for the jugular, but highlight that Trump took Putin's side over his own intelligence services.
Still, it's good to see 'Treason' now go mainstream at last. Not that the thousands upon thousands of UK demonstrators against Trump last week didn't have his number. Shouldn't US cities now display similar peaceful revulsion?

Yes, r190, and the only reason Trump could have sat there smiling is that he promised something major (pulling out troops in Europe?) to Putin in return for the exact dissembling (complete with his laughing "tell") by Putin at the question about the dossier.
Mr. KGB knew NUSSINGK about Trump's entire Miss Universe pageant in Moscow!
But pee, schmee. What Putin HAS is the evidence that Trump CONSPIRED with him to OVERTHROW, VIA COMPUTER, the essence of our democracy, our electoral process.
And Trump did it for money and survival. To re-pay (some of) his massive debt to the Russian Mob, aka Russian government, aka Putin and pals. To maybe then get contracts to build hotels in Russia (and a Trump Resort in Crimea?). But primarily to be allowed to live. Putin might laugh, but Putin doesn't play.

“Even those who think they know turn out to be surprised by the scale and specificity of what Mueller knows. Last month, the senior Democrat on the Senate Intelligence Committee, Mark Warner, joked to donors, “If you get me one more glass of wine, I’ll tell you stuff only Bob Mueller and I know. If you think you’ve seen wild stuff so far, buckle up. It’s going to be a wild couple of months.” But after Friday’s indictment, Warner said—impressed—that the “vast amount of information” in Mueller’s latest documents were new to him and the Senate Intelligence Committee.”

I just wonder how many in congress will be indicted. I am counting on McConnell and Nunes and a few others.
by Anonymous | reply 474 | July 17, 2018 10:17 AM |
it was a comparatively small thing in light of all that happened since, but this past weekend, while he was "resting" in Scotland, Trump's son Eric, the one who is mainly responsible for running the day to day operation of the Trump businesses, flew to Scotland to meet with his father. On the eve of the Putin meeting. So this tells me there was definitely a business component to the Trump agenda with Putin.
But the Putin meeting probably didn't go as well as he hoped for Trump because of the indictments. When Trump stood at that podium complaining that our relationship with Russia was at its worst, he was really talking about HIS relationship with Putin hitting a rough patch because of Mueller's "witch hunt." That's my analysis. So I'm looking for a more aggressive push to get rid of Rosenstein & Mueller.
Wonder what Rudy and Hannity are really thinking at this moment. Because the rot and the stink coming off Trump is getting unbearable. Even for the weasels in Congress. And they know more than we do. I'm convinced now, more than ever, that Nunes and a few others are completely compromised, and that the NRA is another key that will unlock this mess.
I've said it a million times, but Congress doesn't need Mueller right now. After his #TREASONSUMMIT there is enough justification to impeach Trump right now. In fact, people who have a stake , who are Kompromat may want this thing to end because if it doesn't it will expose too much. Mueller has a lot of details.

I’m the one who has changed my mind and is questioning the photo of Butina in the Oval Office. Dan Rather
13 hrs
I will not minimize the gravity of what happened today. I don't need to. Terms like "Treason" and "Conspiracy" and "Impeachment" and "Blackmail" are now firmly in the mainstream parlance of even Beltway insiders. It's about time. To all of them I ask: who is really surprised by the shameful spectacle we witnessed? President Trump has been nothing if not consistent about his willingness to obsequiously kowtow to a murderous autocrat who is actively attacking the United States. And at the same time, he is attacking our democratic institutions and undermining the very Constitution he has sworn to uphold.
The reasons for his display of fealty to Putin will, I believe, inevitably be revealed. In the meantime, amidst all these charred embers of American moral leadership, I remained convinced that this will not stand. This will not be who we become, as a country or a people. President Trump clearly does not represent where the vast majority of Americans want to be, the inflated huzzahs of his dead-end supporters notwithstanding.
This is a moment of clarity. There is no more denying who President Trump is. The question is who are each of us? And this will be the question going forward for anyone who has offered this administration support and excuses. I know many of you have seen this clarity for far too long and worry that another red line has been crossed with no repercussions. I understand the desperate frustration. But to all of you I say, pressure builds cumulatively. Republicans are now searching for bearings in a political tornado. Many more know what is really at stake than are letting on. They have a choice: their country or cowardice.
To those who see themselves in resistance, this is not a time for self-doubt. The moral imperative, the political imperative, the patriotic imperative is to organize a stinging judgement at the ballot box that will echo throughout history. The stakes are perilously high, but don't underestimate the power of justice.
#Steady #Courage

The thing is nothing makes sense about McConnell stalling on Merrick Garland unless he KNEW a republican president was going to win. Once Trump was the GOP candidate turtle should have agreed to let Garland have a hearing figuring he'd be somewhat less liberal than anyone Hillary was likely to nominate - he didn't. Remember common thinking was she would win. He also refused to issue a joint statement about Russian meddling when President Obama asked him to. I blame him for telling HRC concede right away (I still feel this was more about him and his legacy more than anything) and for not doing more about Russian Interference that he knew about. Yes, he was blocked by fucking McTurtle, but he could still have pushed and been more vocal about it. Further, HOW did it get to the point that he got pushed around by the Rethugs like that? He gave them the opportunity because he wouldn't push back. Look at how he rolled over on Garland. Anyway, yes, I get that Obama was in a tough situation but again, he could have been more vocal. Technically, no, it is actually not wrong. It has not been "stated countless times" that only Sessions can fire Rosenstein. And anyone who says that is in error. Sessions didn't appoint Rosenstein -- Trump did. Trump appointed him as the DAG and Trump can fire him. Rosenstein's certificate of appointment is given under the authority of Trump as president. He doesn't have to ask Sessions to do anything.
On the other hand, Mueller can't be fired by Trump, only Rosenstein -- who appointed him -- can do that. Or, if Rosenstein is fired, then someone who takes his place.
Please see the article below, with particular emphasis on these excerpted paragraphs:
[quote] Unlike with Comey, though, [bold] Trump does not have the legal authority to dismiss Mueller directly, according to most legal experts (and despite the White House’s assertion to the contrary).[/bold] Thanks to Attorney General Jeff Sessions’s recusal from the Russia investigation, Rosenstein is the one person who can fire Mueller. But Rosenstein needs a reason to do so, such as misconduct or a conflict of interest, and he has signaled that he sees no such justification.
[quote] [bold] Trump does have the authority to fire members of his administration, including Rosenstein. [/bold] In some sense, dismissing Rosenstein could be seen as just the latest in a series of attention-grabbing terminations of senior administration officials. The firing might be politically unwise, but it wouldn’t be legally suspect.

Thanks r525, I stand corrected. I mixed the firing of Mueller with that of Rosenstein.

Immediately after his news conference, Trump's mood was buoyant, people familiar with the matter said. He walked off stage in Helsinki with little inkling his remarks would cause the firestorm they did, and was instead enthusiastic about what he felt was a successful summit.
By the time he'd returned to the White House just before 10 p.m. ET on Monday, however, his mood had soured. Predictably, the President was upset when he saw negative coverage of the summit airing on television aboard Air Force One. It was clear he was getting little support, even from the usual places.
A day later, aides are still wondering what the ultimate fallout will be, including whether any senior officials will resign. Those who were not on the trip are waiting to debrief their colleagues later in the day about what transpired behind the scenes. All are nervously watching Twitter to see if the President attempts further cleanup beyond his tweet after the event Monday when he said he has "GREAT confidence in MY intelligence people."

Whether the group photo of Trump with the Russians is altered/photoshopped or not, the White House has a long history that everyone, including foreign visitors, are required to sign-in and show I.D./credentials/invitation/pass. Employees of the WH come and go, but they also have credentialed IDs, and security/check-in personnel know who they are and their accesses. Unless there is tampering with the visitors log, the record is there. Every visit Nunes made to the WH, there should be a complete record when he showed, when he left, and whose office he visited.

FYI, I am getting endless calls from people at the DNC who want me to go door to door and talk to people, I guess either about voting or about Trump. I don't want to, I'm old and walking is hard for me. They also want to register people to vote. I told them I would drive people to the polls, or to register to vote, but that seems to be a lesser interest to them.
They are really pursuing me, which is interesting because I don't really do a lot of political things. If someone has time to help the DNC or some other organization, please do. They make it sound like they have a real shortage of volunteers.

The media kill me. Ryan held a quick Press "availability" answered a few questions. Here's my quick summary: He agrees Russia interfered, ( but it did not affect the outcome) , he supports NATO, he thinks Putin is a rat bastard an enemy of Democracy, and Putin is undermining democracy all over the world like, in France and Germany and the Baltics, etc. He might take a look at sanctions to see if it's necessary to do more. Or not. He disagrees with Brennan and does not think Trump 's words were "treasonous."
Why TF would the media expect Ryan or anyone else in Congress to change their behavior at this late date. Ryan even lied or tried to, saying the House Intel committee agreed Russia interfered and the IC backed the FBI, and the Intelligence community reports. Then a reporter challenged Ryan' version of the outcome of Nune's hearings, and Ryan very quickly changed the subject because he got caught...lying! So if we were expecting the announcement of a select committee to develop articles of Impeachment we will have to wait.
I do believe that if there is enough outrage and enough pressure, Ryan may change his tune. All I can think right now is he is waiting further directions from the Kochs. but I think we have to keep up the pressure and we have to encourage the media to build up the pressure and the outrage. The Trump performance has to be run on a continuous loop ike they run all his other speeches. Keep running Trump and Putin together let it haunt them, so that no matter which station they watch, they will see Trump & Putin on a continuous loop. And yes, let the demonstrations begin. Outside the WH. Big signs: Traitor! #TRE45ON

My colleague who is a borderline deplorable, although says she is pro choice but supports Trump. Today, I finally asked her about the "summit". Still making excuses for him and that his statement about peace with Russia calmed her. I said this is like negotiating terrorism with ISIS as a partner. She was sort of laughing and agreeing. I said, this was an act of cyber warfare, he went on foreign soil and attacked his intelligence agencies and DoJ and sided with the enemy! I was calm and measured and she was silent. She said she hopes it is not that. She thinks the Mueller probe is biased and I said, they're all fucking republicans at the DOJ. She said no. I said, yes, all them, Wray, Rosenstein, Comey, Mueller, all were/are R's!! Silence.

I think the latest about Betina needs to be more thoroughly investigated. She is someone who was obviously assigned by the Russian government to get in bed with the NRA. The Russians probably paid off some key people in the NRA so that they could then act as a conduit to funnel Russian money through the NRA to Trump and to various GOP candidates.
In addition to the money funneled through the NRA various Russian oligarchs gave money to Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell's super pacs. This money was distributed to the members of the GOP caucus in both houses. I'm sure in special cases where Russian "businessmen" had relationships with people like Nunes or Rorebacher, etc. they got even more money. But the NRA was and continues to be Betina's special province, her operation.
I think busting her now and exposing her sends a loud message. She was very likely trying to perform the same operation for the midterms. Using the NRA to funnel money to the GOP. There's a lot going on. BTW:Rod Rosenstein is a civil servant. I think even if Trump or Sessions fired him, he would still have his civil service status to fall back on. I may be mistaken about this.

FBI official overseeing election-meddling task force leaves agency.
Senior FBI official Jeffrey Tricoli has left his position overseeing a government task force that's been looking into Russian interference in U.S. elections, according to The Wall Street Journal.
Tricoli, who had been at the FBI for 18 years, reportedly left last month to take a job with Charles Schwab Corp. His departure raises questions about how the government plans to address the issue of election meddling, particularly with the midterm elections less than four months away.
The task force's responsibilities include coordinating activities between the FBI and state, federal and private organizations, according to the Journal. However, sources told the Journal that the group has not made much progress.

CNN's Phil Mattingly today noted "a sense of forlorn acceptance" among congressional Republicans, and a feeling that "there's nothing more Republicans think they can do."
Noting they've passed an extension of sanctions, an increase in defense funding, support for Baltic states, Mattingly said the feeling is, "What else is there for them to do, given this is where the President clearly is and he's -- according to one senator -- just ignoring his foreign policy team."
The bottom line, Mattingly said, is this will likely go the way of a lot of the controversies we've seen over the last 15 or 16 months: Republicans unnerved. Republicans unhappy. Republicans acknowledging that this diverges strongly ideologically from where they stand on a specific issue.

The GOP should realize that Trump is going to take them and the party down with him. Many are compromised by the Russians as much as Trump is- don't these yahoos realize the peril? A number are jumping ship but others are digging in their claws and continuing to support the orange beast. I could not care less about his base- they are all, as someone said, one chromosome away from a potato. Vote Democrat! Vote Democrat! Your rights as a LGBTQ depends on it. Yeah R571, Republicans without backbone, too. They need to stop looking at all this as political games and widen their world to see this for what it is. Everything Trumpis ding is following Putin's grand plans for us. He is making us weaker. Pulling out of the Paris Accords, dumping the Iran Nuclear agreement. Killing the TPP trade agreement. The Trade wars and Tariffs. Trump is enriching himself. He is making private personal deals on behalf of his family. But he doesn' give a shit about anyone or anything else. The Republicans are disgustin. They are traitors who have completely betrayed their office.
As far as the Midterms go. Turnout is the key. We need to work very hard to make sure we have a massive turnout. We cannot afford not to. Remember, as I have said several times: We don't have the Electoral College to fuck us over. Hillary won the popular vote in spite of everything. We can win too. We just have to show up! Are they going to try to hack us? Yes. Will they try to be divisive and lie and disrupt? Yes. But we know what their MO is now. So all we have to do is show up and vote for the Democrat. Period. Real easy. Turn off the noise machine and just do it. Because if we have the turn out we can win in spite of them.

0. Literally do nothing

2. Force financial disclosure
3. Hearings on Oval Office meeting & other key events
