Mozzarella

Cheese aficianadoes, I need advice on mozzarella. I'm in Ireland, so getting it fresh or locally is not an option. I've recently been getting it from Aldi-it's German made but frankly tasteless. Aldi also have Buffalo Mozzarella which is made by a guy in Cork, and the taste is incredible. It's twice the price, but that's not an issue. I wondered if the choice of milk used is an issue with respect to taste, or is it that mass produced mozzarella is just rubbish.

You've answered your own question, you thick cunt.

R1 Fuck off Jackeen. Go find an injecting room. And show up in court tomorrow.

by Anonymousreply 2July 15, 2018 2:14 PM

This is what happens these days when you ask a question about white cheese

by Anonymousreply 3July 15, 2018 2:31 PM

most of what Aldi sells is mass produced shit. That's how they keep the prices down.

by Anonymousreply 4July 15, 2018 2:40 PM

Mass produced mozzarella is all shit. Yes, the milk used makes a difference in the flavor. I don't see why you can't get cheese produced locally, I'm sure there are cows.

My favorite Mozzarella.

You can make your own fresh mozzarella. Just use good milk. The Irish make good butter; there must be some good milk there.

by Anonymousreply 7July 15, 2018 4:19 PM

Choice of milk and processing. TBH mozzarella isn't the most flavourful cheese to begin with. The mass produced version uses cow's milk but traditionally it's made with buffalo milk and pulled etc. I don't think the mass produced stuff is pulled or whatever you say the same way.

(For what it's worth, R2, R1 is a regular troll and not Irish.)

by Anonymousreply 9July 15, 2018 6:41 PM

If you're in Ireland, you'll get all the cheese you want off of any dick.

by Anonymousreply 10July 15, 2018 6:41 PM

Cows in Ireland eat grass and are not allowed to be fed corn and soy like cows in the USA. The dairy tastes very different, and it's why Kerrygold butter taste so much better than American butter.

Make your own

Just wait until you discover burrata cheese.

Mozzarella from buffalo milk only, the other stuff tastes like rubber.

by Anonymousreply 16August 20, 2018 9:53 AM

Buffalo milk has more fat.

by Anonymousreply 17August 20, 2018 9:59 AM

You should be able to get Italian mozzarella in most supermarkets. The buffalo ones cost twice as much. I buy the low-fat cow's milk ones at Lidl. Half the fat, 2/3 the calories and I like the texture better. Buffalo mozzarella is creamier.

There is no OP post. The thread starts at R1 and I haven't put anyone on ignore in quite a while.

Interesting.

This is the animal that produces the milk for buffalo mozz.

R19 OP here....I see it

I see it, r19.

And the little mozzarella-colored dog @ r6 is certainly a cutie.

You have to laugh at people who buy low-fat mozzarella.

What's the point? Is the minuscule amount of fat going to kill you?

And besides, there is no "low-fat" mozzarella. Mozzarella is what it is... cow's milk or "bufala".

Why change the taste and texture of one of the world's greatest cheeses. Can't you just enjoy it for what it is?

by Anonymousreply 23August 20, 2018 12:22 PM

Make your own with goats milk.

by Anonymousreply 24August 20, 2018 12:29 PM

R24 Had to shoot the goat. She was raiding the veg patch.

by Anonymousreply 25August 20, 2018 12:33 PM

8.5% fat vs 17% fat, so no. I eat a lot of it as protein, in salads.

Write sentences without subjects, so am stupid.

by Anonymousreply 27August 20, 2018 1:13 PM

Isn't buffalo milk cheaper than cow milk?
