I believe some clarification is needed on the funding for MeAgain's absurdly expensive wardrobe, that is to say, on how the Duchy of Cornwall works:
The Duchy of Cornwall was set up in the late 1300s to ensure that the heir to the throne had an independent income, the intention being to insulate him from susceptibility to corruption for filthy lucre. The Duchy, therefore, belongs to the eldest son of the sovereign. He can take its revenues, but he cannot sell its assets for personal benefit. It's value comes mostly from its immense landholdings, which comprise about 135,000 acres. It is exempt from tax, but Charles makes a voluntary contribution from its revenues each year, although no one knows how much that is.
The Duchy's value at the end of fiscal year 2013 was put at a staggering £763 million, and profit (that is, what Charles is entitled to take) was £19 million.
Per the official line: "The income of the Duchy is also used to cover the official expenditure of some members of the Duke's (that is, the current Duke, Charles, Prince of Wales) immediate family. Presently, the Duchess of Cornwall, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex all have their official expenses paid from Duchy income, assisted by Grants-in-aid from the Queen." (I believe the Grants in Aid "fund" is between £4-5 million.)
So, technically, it is true that the taxpayer, per se, isn't paying for Meghan's clothes. But practically speaking, everyone in the Duchy involved with its management, work, and maintenance, who produce what gives the Duchy its revenues, are taxpayers. What this amounts to is, Charles owns those taxpayers and the product of their work in a truly feudal sense, and those taxpayers' work is funding Meghan's and Kate's wardrobes, and a good bit of William's and Harry's household expenses.
If a resident of the Duchy dies without a will or heirs, his or estate becomes the property of the Duchy. If there is no male heir to assume ownership of the Duchy, its revenues revert to the Crown, and the Sovereign Grant is reduced by the amount of those revenues.
Personally, I find the Duchy arrangement obscene in this day and age, and it should be discontinued when Charles dies.
So, now you know not only why Meghan can pretty much spend what she likes on her often ridiculous wardrobe, but why she would have done anything to nail Harry. What isn't answered by this is why, considering that she owes the clothes on her back to the work of the people of the Duchy of Cornwall, she can't do the decent thing and make it LOOK as if she cares about the price, and about supporting the British fashion industry.
What also isn't answered by this information is why Britain is still fawning over these parasitic shites.

Or do you think that £10,000 Oscar de la Renta tablecloth she wore to the Spencer wedding really should have gotten nothing but praise because her mama married a white guy?

I didn’t think the emerald green outfit was bad at all.
The gray dress was abysmal because of the way it fit her. If it had been the right size, worn with proper undergarments and worn during the right season, it would be very nice.

And I will keep saying this until there’s no breath left in me, or until she finally gets it right...
Every fabric she wears looks cheap. I never see her wearing a fabric that looks posh or sumptuous. For all the money they spend on designer clothing, it looks like shit from Ann Taylor LOFT.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | July 11, 2018 9:43 PM |
R16 - The Dior dress material didn't look cheap, but that's about it.
There is something curiously second-rate about the Sussexes; I think that instead of lending her class, she's bringing in the aura of the arriviste playing a part. It brings the whole thing down.
The wedding had the same feel to it - as if it were hastily arranged playacting.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | July 11, 2018 9:49 PM |
R17, the skirt of the Dior looked nice. The bodice looked almost as bad as the gray dress, with the darts misplaced and the fabric pressed tightly against her skin.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | July 11, 2018 9:57 PM |
Are we just assuming she doesn’t get professional fittings for these disasters or does she just run roughshod over the dresser and demand tighter bodices with huge darts to try to look like she’s got tits?
by Anonymous | reply 19 | July 11, 2018 10:01 PM |
R18 - The gray dress was pretty bad - among the worst things she's ever appeared in.
R19 - Who knows? The clothes, like that exaggerate slut strut walk she still uses, seem to be intended to message higher sexualisation. Perhaps Sparkle is so used to having to dress to appear highly sexualised that she can't drop the habit, hence the tight bodices, suggestively placed darts, and hooker shoes. Maybe she's dressing for Harry, who is probably too obtuse to notice the bad details that others (cough) are noticing, and is pleased by the sexualised look (maybe he is straight, after all).
For all we know, Harry said, "Promise me you won't ever let them make you dress like Kate."
That olive green suit she wore to the christening was strictly Cruella de Ville; it was intended to announce her difference from the other women.
Maybe she's trying to seduce the nation, too.

r55, pretty girl
by Anonymous | reply 56 | July 12, 2018 10:20 AM |
R56, she’s a woman, not a girl.
It’s not that easy to find a bra that fits, for many. Most (American) women go to Victoria’s Secret and buy whatever the dingdongs there recommend. If they don’t have the size you need, they’ll talk you into a “sister size”. I could go on.
A woman of her station and budget can walk into a boutique that specializes in bra-fitting and walk out with the luxury of an undergarment that fits and supports flawlessly. There are a few here in NYC. I’m sure London has them, too. They cost, but she obviously has an unlimited budget, and every inch of her is being scrutinized. It’s a tiny investment, really.
It’s almost impossible for a woman THAT skinny to have fat rolls above her bra, but it just illustrates how bad that bra is.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | July 12, 2018 11:08 AM |

Anyone who thinks the image posted by R50 is "stunning and elegant" has denial issues. The only word for the fit is "tawdry". What is unquestionably stunning is the cost of the wardrobe Sparkle took for 3 days in Dublin. Surely no one expects her to bring a wardrobe she got at TJ Maxx, but she is clearly using the clothes to make herself look and feel expensive, which for her translates as "royal". The future Queen Consort of Great Britain looks quite a bit less expensive, but therefore also quite a bit less insecure, and quite a bit more appropriate.
And except for her wedding dress, which was underwhelming given the cost, we haven't even seen her in evening clothes yet. If the day dresses have run £5,000-£10,000, one trembles to think what the Duchy will be shelling out for any upcoming evening clothes.
You don't need £17,000 worth of different clothes and accessories in three hours to look stunning and elegant. You need class, beauty, and a certain indifference to style. Sparkle's choices make it clear she has none of these, but instead thinks the clothes will give them to her.

R65 - have you any idea how tedious and infantile your fixation on her DNA is?'
The gurl hates being part black and always has. She doesn't straighten her African-textured hair and didn't surgically narrow the broader more African looking nose she was born with because she's filled with pride in her black heritage and "character".
She married Harry to turn herself and more specifically, her children, as white as possible. She never dated a single man of colour in her adult life. All her besties from Toronto are white.
The one with the racism problem is Sparkle and her rejection of the half of her DNA that she was least enamoured of and felt was least socially productive for her.
by Anonymous | reply 67 | July 12, 2018 3:16 PM |
R66 - Elizabeth R is notorious for being able to keep her real feelings to herself. If she hated this marriage with every fibre of her being you wouldn't know it. EIyIR is far too shrewd and experienced for that.
She's been "welcomed" into the family purely for PR purposes so the BRF can look modern and diverse, and so no one can accuse them of being racist if and when the marriage fails.
These people are experienced enough to a social climbing opportunist when they see one. They're just giving Harry enough rope to hang himself. You'll see the same sweet photos of EIIR with Diana in the early days, with Fergie in the early days, with Kate in the early days, and now Sparkle.
Style of thing.

R64, what *I* dream of is having a basic wardrobe of custom-made garments in the very best fabrics made my a dressmaker who understands what flatters my body. Having a pair of classic black trousers that make you look thin and leggy and your ass divine is worth it. You can wear them again and again and who’s counting? It annoys me that she is able to have this luxury (which costs less than a few of those cheap-looking designer bags) and she doesn’t. A truly stylish woman understands the concept.
I used to work for a woman in the fashion industry who had her wardrobe made by a talented dressmaker. She had many basic sheath dresses that fit her perfectly, in the colors that suited her complexion. One of the most chic and stylish women I’ve ever seen. Meghan would knock it out of the park if she could manage to humble herself and give up being impressed by labels.
You can wear head to toe “designer” and still look cheap. Or wear an original Miss Soo and look like a million.
by Anonymous | reply 70 | July 12, 2018 3:35 PM |
R67, I think you are the infantile and tedious one here. She doesn’t have to date men of color simply because she’s biracial...that’s idiotic to say. She dated who she wanted and she chose her friends the way she wanted...she doesn’t owe white or black people jack shit...she just has to be her.
by Anonymous | reply 71 | July 12, 2018 3:37 PM |
She's wearing a strapless bra, you have to be very careful how they fit under super tight clothes because they don't have straps to pull the bra cups up. She has to go strapless with all those dresses that skim the shoulders. Her clothes are ill fitting because they are either too tight or too loose in places. The dresses are OK in and of themselves, it is the fit on her. But her biggest problem is she wants to be the center of attention and a trend setter. Everyone is wearing summer colors and she wants to be the first one out of the gate wearing the new fall colors so she can be the one who sets the new trends. All of these dresses are fall colors. But it also helps put the focus on her because she stands out from the summer colors and clothes, like at the Christening. And wearing black (with nude heels?) And a black hat on the balcony with the Queen during the day? The Queen wears bright colors to be noticed. Meg found a way to get more notice than the Queen by standing out in black. Our little Meg is something else. I'll bet with the BRF she acts all dumb and naive about it. There is a BI that the recent lack of chemistry between H &M is because pictures and photographic proof of her yachting type of activities have been sent to the BRF and they are going to have to pay the person off.

You act as if no black or biracial entertainment industry denizen ever altered her appearance because looking whiter got her more gigs and more money. Jennifer Lawrence having a nose job to look better onscreen is not the same as a WOC having a nose job to look more Caucasian.
Colourism, as it is called, is dirty secret in the black community. It's been written about, talked about - skin lightening products in the Middle East and Asia are a billion dollar industry.
In my view, it is you who are insulting Meghan Markle by assuming she hasn't had the remotest issues in America with biracialism. You're the one pretending the issues don't exist, and that they had absolutely no bearing on her life choices.

She better get started soonish, the chances of Down’s syndrome raises sharply after 35.
by Anonymous | reply 94 | July 12, 2018 11:21 PM |
R93 - I will lay a virtual wager that they are trying now, regardless of the Australia gig. Producing a guarantee of her place in the family for the foreseeable future is far more important than the Commonwealth tour - and, anyway, she may be perfectly fine in the first trimester, as opposed to Kate, who suffers from hypergravidensis or whatever it's called, in the first trimester and virtually disappears until it's over. Sparkle really doesn't have a moment to lose in this particular arena.

looked adorable in the casual suiting and the bright yellow shift. gorgeous in the wide strapped black dress, all the other ensembles were serious missteps. the wedding gown really did look as if were made of concrete and was too big.
no one discusses kate middleclassdoms clothing because she is boringly appropriate for these occasions.
by Anonymous | reply 96 | July 13, 2018 12:18 AM |
R96 - actually, it's their deliberate boringness that has been discussed, and the strategy behind that. That said, she occasionally does look lovely and always looks appropriately dressed for the occasion.
by Anonymous | reply 97 | July 13, 2018 1:05 AM |
R74 - are you blind? Kate and Meghan have completely opposite body types. Kate is 5'8" tall, has lovely legs, and a notably small waist (when she isn't pregnant or postpartum). Meghan is 5'4" (no matter what she says on her CV), has no waist, and chicken legs which is why she is always trying to hide them.
I just saw Kate interviewed on the BBC in a programme on Wimbledon, of which Kate is an honorary patron. She was wearing a short bright red dress and high heels and her legs looked fantastic. There is no similarity in their body types unless it is that they both have vaginas. As for feminine - I would say both women look feminine in different ways.

She looks frumpish. Will that ever change? I don't think so. She's not cut out for the royal "look." And no, she doesn't really have much of a figure. And the the pulled back hair does her no favors.
by Anonymous | reply 99 | July 13, 2018 1:36 AM |
She looks nice OP and I bet way better than you troll.
by Anonymous | reply 101 | July 13, 2018 1:55 AM |
Kate does look nice an this is coming from someone who is not a fan of the royals. Sparkle need to hit Selfridge for better fitted shealth dresses. At least she will save the British taxpayers a lot of money.
by Anonymous | reply 102 | July 13, 2018 2:21 AM |
No, I'm not blind. I can't recall ever seeing a waist on Kate. So what if she has nicer legs than Sparkle, she looks like a damn ruler! When pregnant, a ruler with a bump. I can't tell how tall either one of them are since both wear heels often and both are much shorter than their respective princes.
by Anonymous | reply 103 | July 13, 2018 3:49 AM |
I don’t get the Kate vs. Meghan stuff. They’re both pretty women. And I think Meghan is prettier in the face. Kate has a better figure.
I don’t care to pick apart Kate’s clothing because it’s always correct and usually boring. As is the Queen’s clothing. Where’s the fun in that?
It’s MUCH more fun to pick apart the clothing of the others: Meghan, Bea and Eug, Fergie and Camiller. It’s not personal, it’s more like exercise. I pick apart most outfits; I take joy when I approve and even more delight when I find something wrong.
And no, I am not perfect, either. But I do dress appropriately for the occasion.

R106 you truly are a moron. NONE of this is race based. She’s a short, boxy gold digger trying to look like a tall, shapely aristo. You are the only one whining about race.

R103 - take a good look at the photo R104 has provided, as well as Kate's wedding dress, and myriad other photos when she is not postpartum - her small waist is one of her best features, and if you didn't see it, it's because you didn't want to.
And saying you have no idea how tall either woman is, is also absurd. Kate is tall. T - a - l - l. At least 5'8" and some people insist, taller. And yes, her husband is about 6'3", so even in heels he is taller than she is. But she is a tall slim woman with good legs and a small waist.
by Anonymous | reply 108 | July 13, 2018 2:07 PM |
I don’t think much of Kate in general but even I have to admit she’s built to wear couture. She’s slim but still shapely, neat bust line, tiny waist, proportionate hips, long slender legs; muscled but neither masculine nor skinny.

Critciising a third-rate actress for her a well-known history of desperation for A-List stature, ghosting people who are no longer useful to her, and her wardrobe choices is about as close to white supremacist belief as wearing trainers without socks is to being a communist.
You're a hysterical frau insisting that no one dare criticise Meghan Markle because she's half-black.
Fuck you and your race hysteria. We're not going to be intimidated by your politically correct bullshit.
Yeah, she's half-black. She's also a shallow, narcissistic, gold-digging famewhore who married a dim bulb for status, wealth, and privilege, with questionable taste in clothes, no waist, and stick legs.
by Anonymous | reply 112 | July 13, 2018 4:21 PM |

[quote] R37 - Good day, Dr. Lecter.
[quote] Anyone who thinks the image posted by R50 is "stunning and elegant" has denial issues.
[quote] R65 - have you any idea how tedious and infantile your fixation on her DNA is?' The gurl hates being part black and always has.
[quote] R66 - Elizabeth R is notorious for being able to keep her real feelings to herself.
[quote] R65-R71 - Sure, you keep telling yourself that: her straightened nappy hair and thinned nose and two white husbands are just coincidental.
[quote] R73 - Oh, Christ, please stop the simpleton act. Black women, especially actresses in America, have talked openly about their issues with African textured hair. Sparkle herself commented on it.

She looks good sometimes, other times she looks absurd (cf. that Dior dress she wore to the RAF event made her look like a wealthy matron off to a tryst with Gary Cooper at the Ritz in "Love in the Afternoon" - in fact, I think the outfit was a virtual replica of the one worn by one of Coop's conquests in the film. And even the fraus on CB are screaming at her to get fitted for a proper bra in that gray dress.
[quote] R82 - phony, the word you are looking for is phony, just like her phone adoration of Harry, whom she would never have looked at if he'd been a middle-management businessman she met at a part at the Mulroney's.

The green T-shirt and skirt outfit she wore getting off the plane in Dublin was entirely too casual and WRONG. In fact, it was insulting. Like Ireland wasn't important enough to dress appropriately.
Sparkle looked like the Assistant for some company who was trailing her boss (the really powerful person) off the plane. With her work in the bag she was carrying.
That outfit was wrong, wrong, wrong in the message it sent to the country she was visiting. Compare her casual look to the clothes she chose for those appearances she made in England. This one looked like she couldn't be bothered.
Fuck that bitch for that insult.
On another note that someone (R17) mentioned above about the wedding. It appears from pictures that the dresses of the flower girls were pretty shoddily made. The hems, etc. Just on a hunch, I pulled up pictures of what Charlotte wore as a flower girl at both Harry & Sparkle's wedding and at Pippa's wedding. Quite an obvious difference in the quality of the dresses. No, I don't mean the styles, but the quality of the finished dresses.
So, what's up with that?
I know the Middletons would have been directing the designs of the clothes for the pages and flower girls for Pippa's wedding, but why would the dresses for the more recent wedding been of such lower quality?
by Anonymous | reply 123 | July 13, 2018 7:02 PM |
R123, I’d guess that the bulk of the wedding budget was spent on the bride’s dress.
by Anonymous | reply 124 | July 13, 2018 7:06 PM |
Agreed R123, instead of looking like the wife of a prince she looks like his personal assistant. But I find her so confusing - in some instances, on the same outings with Harry, she appears dumbfounded and out of her depth almost to the point of appearing painfully insecure. And then in the next moment she will appear overly confident and dominating, as though Harry is the one who needs guidance, like when she motions him forward or places her hand on his back as they're exiting. I just find her loopy for lack of a better word.

R123
Besides the blocky, plain dresses, the flower girls' shoes were clunky and cheap-looking.
I liked the little, flower hearts that were carried at Pippa's wedding by the flower girls. Hated her wedding dress though.

MM would look good in vintage clothes and accessories of Azzedine Alaïa (c. 1980s-90s):
1. Pleated skirts and dresses in gemstone colors (since she's a Winter) plus black. NO browns!
2. His short dresses and evening gowns are perfect for her body shape with emphasis under the bust and not the waist. The jackets
3. Jackets with diagonal zippers. Jackets were the hip juts out like peplum jackets.
4. Wide belts with diagonal zippers or cut out designs, including colored leather like aqua. Not the skinny black belts like she's been wearing.
5. Pencil skirts + ones that have a ruffle that has movement at the bottom.
There are a lot of things MM could buy now from the vintage fashion listings on 1st Dibbs, including the Azzedine Alaïa listings linked below (ie. purple flare dress, pink pleated skirt and the things I mentioned above).
I didn't know 1st Dibbs sold clothes. I thought they just sold furniture and lighting.

R125 I don't know if it's a ploy or not. MM's bad posture gives off a subservient vibe; slumped shoulders, head hanging down, with the coy "shy girl" mannerisms seems pretty fake. As if she's trying to be like Diana.
Hate the constant hair-stroking and showing off her ring.
MM's got the wide-leg stance like Michelle Obama. Both need to stand with their legs together. In Michelle's case, I somehow think it could be connected to her height and it has to do with her maintaining balance. With MM, it might be due to her ill-fitting stilettos.
I don't like MM sway back pose either like she did in the white wrap coat for the engagement announcement.
I'm with whoever said upthread or on another thread, that MM needs her own personal dress-maker. My mother was a businesswoman in the 1960s -80s and had a dressmaker who made fabulous, high-fashion, well-fitting dresses and feminine business suits that would have cost a fortune to buy at I. Magnin. I think my mother designed them.

R132 The photo must be PhotoShopped. Beatrice (at the bottom) has bug-eyes. Eugenie on the right is the one who usually looks better than her sister.
If you want to watch something very sad, check out the clip of Fergie on Dr. Phil's show. She really has low self-esteem and is addicted to risky financial endeavors just to please people. She says that Andrew is the best man she's ever met and that the Epstein girl is lying about Andrew.
