Well, It's Tuesday, 5:30 in the morning there right now, so I'm betting they've resumed their rescue operations.

by Anonymousreply 1July 9, 2018 9:37 PM

Is it raining hard?

by Anonymousreply 2July 9, 2018 9:41 PM

It’s not raining anymore. Instead, small snowflakes are falling gently from the heavens above...

by Anonymousreply 3July 9, 2018 9:43 PM

Doctor is praised.

He changed their mind to bring out the weakest first. The shitty thai govt wanted to bring out the strongest first. so fucking stupid. seriously.

Potentially deadly histoplasmosis — a lung infection also known as “cave disease” and “spelunker’s lung” caused by breathing in spores from animal waste — is one of several illnesses that medical experts are worried the 12 boys and their coach could have contracted while trapped deep in the subterranean system.

“These are spores that reside frequently in caves and are often found in the excretions of bats,” Dr. Paul Auerbach, a professor of emergency medicine at California’s Stanford University, told CTV News.

For healthy people, cave disease just causes a bit of a fever and a cough — but those with compromised immune systems may start coughing up blood and could die if it goes untreated and spreads through the body, he said.

The eight boys already evacuated from the cave over the weekend are being held in isolation — and aren’t even allowed to hug their parents — as doctors assess them for histoplasmosis and other conditions.

“But what we’re most concerned with is infections. There are all kinds of diseases in the cave, from bats, from dirty water. Everything in there is very dirty.”

The boys, who got stuck inside the cave when it flooded June 23, survived until they were found nine days later only by drinking water that dripped off the stalactites hanging above them.

Guano disease R5

by Anonymousreply 9July 9, 2018 9:46 PM

well, it's quite obvious the coach isn't the sickest! The MD checked everyone before the rescue. gawd...you guys believe trash.

After more than two weeks inside the flooded Tham Luang cave complex, the boys were promised meals of KFC as well as lighter schoolwork by teachers and classmates, according to USA Today.

The principal of Mae Sai Prasitsart School, which six of the 12 boys attend, said educators will do everything possible to ensure the boys can ease back into their regular lives.

“We will treat them positively, and not put the blame on them for anything,” Kanet Pongsuwan told the news outlet. “They were the victims of a disaster.”

Kanet said the boys, all members of the Wild Boars soccer team, will receive extra tutoring to catch them up on their studies since going missing June 23 inside the labyrinthine complex in northern Thailand. The boys also won’t have to take exams scheduled for next week.

“We will not push them too hard on their studies,” the principal said, adding that the boys will be treated as disaster victims and given psychological evaluations.

“We’re going to eat fried chicken at KFC,” said Poowadet Khamngern, a 14-year-old who plays on the Wild Boars.

Waranchit Kankaew, 14, who is also on the Wild Boars and close pals with three of the players, promised to “do everything as normal.”

“We will go to lunch together, we will play football together,” he said.

Waranchit said exploring the dark, dangerous cave system wasn’t out of the ordinary.

“It’s our cave, it’s Mae Si’s cave,” he said, referring to the district in which the cave is located. “We need to explore it.”

The teen said he’s been inside the cave four times and even got lost once for about 30 minutes.

But he doesn’t plan on returning.

“No thanks,” Waranchit said.

The 12 young athletes, ages 11 to 16, and their 25-year-old coach were found safe a week ago, huddled on a rocky shelf 2½ miles deep in the cave.

A technology teacher at the school, which has about 2,800 students, said the group of boys were known to be adventurous.

“They are explorer kids,” said Suwicha Jitbarn, who taught one of the trapped boys, Pheeraphat Somphandjai, 16. “They like sports, outdoor activity.”

Jitbarn said the teen’s parents plan to send him off to a monastery once he’s freed.

“They prayed and made an offer that if he was released, he will go to a monastery for a month,” he said. “It is part of our Buddhist beliefs [in Thailand] and it will also help him to focus and clear his mind.”

by Anonymousreply 14July 9, 2018 9:51 PM

Unless they're walking around caked in bat shit, there's no danger of anyone catching histoplasmosis. It can't be transmitted.

by Anonymousreply 21July 9, 2018 10:15 PM

R21 What the coach must have done to keep their spirits up in the dark. Especially the 9 days before they knew they were going to be rescued. He being the adult and all.

That the kids are pretty healthy and were good humored in their letters speak volumes of his leadership and resourcefulness. Can't wait to hear the stories of this amazing man.

by Anonymousreply 22July 9, 2018 10:21 PM

Porn in a name means blessed by Buddha or close to that. Chai means male depending on tone. Pornchai would mean boy blessed by Buddha. Thai names like Native American names usually are a short saying.

by Anonymousreply 23July 9, 2018 10:22 PM

They're given a nickname at birth as a way to confuse the demons who are always on the lookout for fresh souls, but who only have access to official names apparently. The nicknames usually relate to some physical characteristic, birth order or, increasingly, random English words.

It's a bit disconcerting in a professional setting to have to address people as Moo (pig), a Bum (dimple), a Poo (crab), Coke, Vanilla, and Detroit.

Btw, porn means blessing, but as there's no R in the language it just serves to make the "O" sound longer.

by Anonymousreply 24July 9, 2018 10:23 PM

Soon “Poon”, R25?

Other contributions aren't getting as much attention. The US sent a team of 17 Air Force rescue specialists based on the Japanese island of Okinawa along with support staff.

A six-man Chinese cave rescue team experts arrived last Friday. They brought an underwater robot, diving equipment and three-dimensional imager.

Ben Reymenants (twitter linked below) also has been helping, he owns a diving school in phuket.

I hope they get them out safely, before I go to sleep at midnight. It'll be noon there and maybe they can wrap things up. I don't want anyone else to die.

by Anonymousreply 48July 9, 2018 11:10 PM

I once had a Thai co-worker named Pornchai, who FYI was female.

And if the waters in the cave are rising, I hope they're already on their way to get the last five out, because rising waters really could put a stop to all the good news. It could create dangerous currents in the water or shrink or flood the air pockets along the route, even if it doesn't flood the spot where the kids were stranded. If waters rise that means that at least they're going to need more air tanks to make the trip, and one of the things that's making this rescue so slow and painstaking is the need for multiple air tanks en route. Multiple tanks have to be placed along the cave for a rescue attempt to be made, and remember that every tank that's placed in the cave means that someone risked their fucking life to get it there.

If the water is rising that means that not only is the trip in to rescue the kids more dangerous than ever, it means that every single tank put in the cave is there because of a level of courage that the average Datalounger can't even conceive.

by Anonymousreply 49July 9, 2018 11:12 PM

R45, I believe Damon left when all non-essential personnel were cleared out of the cave area, but I’m only basing that on what was mentioned here on DL.

It did. In a symbolic gesture of kindness and goodwill, he’s giving it to the dead Navy Seal’s widow so that she can go tubing inside of it down the Mekong River.

Phuket and Porn. What a sexual sounding language.

by Anonymousreply 52July 9, 2018 11:15 PM

I'm a pretty adventurous person, been SCUBA diving and kayaking in iceberg graveyards and all that, but I've never wanted to take up caving.

After following this story, I have definitely learned to respect the dangers of the deep! In fact, I'm never entering a cave again, unless they have a lit walkway and docents!

by Anonymousreply 53July 9, 2018 11:15 PM

R53, do they have any moose docents for caves?

by Anonymousreply 54July 9, 2018 11:17 PM

In fact, I'll ask anyone left on the thread:

Do you want to visit caves after learning everything you've learned about caves and caving from this story, or are you going to avoid caves for the rest of your life? Or shriek and clutch your pearls at the very mention of visiting Carlsbad Caverns?

by Anonymousreply 55July 9, 2018 11:19 PM

I'm even afraid to go into my man cave now!

by Anonymousreply 56July 9, 2018 11:20 PM

I learned scuba diving in Krabi, Thailand, from a bunch of hot English guys.

While we were moving the air tanks, I accidentally engaged one of the levers and gave one of them a strong blast of air in the crotch. I still cringe thinking about it.

by Anonymousreply 60July 9, 2018 11:34 PM

Can someone explain what’s a refresher ?

by Anonymousreply 61July 9, 2018 11:35 PM
I'm never entering a cave again, unless they have a lit walkway and[bold] docents![/bold]

I first read that as "donuts."

by Anonymousreply 62July 9, 2018 11:35 PM

I've admitted previously to having no experience or aptitude with children. I'm 56, and I never had nieces or nephews. But when the first group of boys were rescued, I couldn't stop crying. So I guess my heart isn't completely dead.

R55, I'm drawn to them while, at the same time, terrified. I couldn't be a true spelunker. I'd only be able to handle to classic tourist attraction caves. Years ago, I saw this amazing documentary, in 3D, exploring a cave full of Pleistocene artwork. It was mesmerizing.

by Anonymousreply 66July 9, 2018 11:45 PM

American parents would be calling their lawyers, elected officials, and Hollywood publicists looking to cash in on a big story if they weren't told whether their kids were rescued or not. And that's the difference between a tradition of democracy and authoritarianism.

There's no rational reason to pull this shit, if no information is being released it's because some official is feeling threatened or insecure, not because there's a valid reason to keep information from the families and the public.

by Anonymousreply 67July 9, 2018 11:45 PM

So the Matt troll can’t provide a single pic as proof ? Do it soon or it’s an FF for you.

by Anonymousreply 93July 10, 2018 12:11 AM

Maybe the parents made a pact that they would wait until all the boys were out before they knew about their son. It would be kind of shitty to be all happy. while other parents were in agony, This seems like a decent way to handle it.

by Anonymousreply 94July 10, 2018 12:12 AM

But the twist is, the pact was with the devil. The Thai devil. Now the boys' first born sons are promised to Satan.

by Anonymousreply 95July 10, 2018 12:13 AM

Musks actions have creeped the hell out of me. Instead of doing something useful, like shipping in a planeload of compressed air tanks, oxygen, and rebreathers, he's sought publicity and tried to prove he's smarter than all the experts who are actually rescuing the kids.

Of course Musk has proven the opposite, the experts are getting the kids out with old-fashioned diving and caving techniques, while his inventions have been widely mocked for being useless self-indulgences. I mean, a little submarine that will feel like a coffin from the inside and which is too rigid to get through confined spaces? Genius!

by Anonymousreply 123July 10, 2018 12:45 AM

When does the next rescue attempt begin?

by Anonymousreply 124July 10, 2018 12:46 AM

Most of the kids are stateless — Akha, Shan, Lahu, and Lua. They're not Buddhist. They're from animist tribes, hence the pigs and chickens being sacrificed to appease the cave's spirit. That's also why it would never occur to them to blame the coach for something that the cave decided to do.

The coach's parents were Burmese refugees, so he's also stateless.

Coach is worse than Trump

by Anonymousreply 131July 10, 2018 12:58 AM

I wish they would interrupt trump and tell us the last of the team has been brought out. Or maybe they could interrupt trump to tell everyone that children are suffering because they lost their parents.

by Anonymousreply 132July 10, 2018 1:07 AM

If the coach has really been giving all his share of food to the kids, he's probably feeling life-threatening feelings of guilt.

If he gets out, his best bet is probably to go back to the monestary for a while, he certainly won't be able to just go back to his job. He could certainly do worse than a spell in a monestary, doing simple work, meditating, and thinking the whole mess over. And for something like this, Bhuddist meditation and detachment is probably more healing than psychotherapy. I mean what can therapy offer? Shit happened!

by Anonymousreply 135July 10, 2018 1:10 AM

I think the kids could be in bad shape but honestly, I think the coach could be worse...he did a very bad thing and he must feel very guilty. Guilt makes you sick.

by Anonymousreply 136July 10, 2018 1:11 AM

Who give a shit about the coach? Fuck this cunt. He will be lucky if they don't prosecute him, a man died trying to safe his dumb ass. yes, he should feel guilty. It was his bad judgement. who the fuck goes so far in the cave anyways and to breath in all that bat poop and who knows what else....gross!

and thai govt is utterly useless and shitty. not letting parents know if they're kids are out? What kind of BS is this?

by Anonymousreply 137July 10, 2018 1:14 AM

Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, who this weekend announced he had directed a team of engineers to build a “tiny, kid-size submarine” (really more of an air-filled metal box) to help extract the 12 boys and coach of Thai soccer team Wild Boars stranded in the flooded Tham Luang cave complex for weeks, is apparently on site in northern Thailand.

According to a series of Instagram and Twitter posts, Musk has in fact personally entered the cave system to deliver the completed capsule.

“Just returned from Cave 3,” Musk wrote on Twitter. “Mini-sub is ready if needed. It is made of rocket parts & named Wild Boar after kids’ soccer team. Leaving here in case it may be useful in the future. "

by Anonymousreply 141July 10, 2018 1:19 AM

Elon, re-defining narcissism. Thinking R138 had surely linked to a PARODY post, I just looked at his Twitter account. Would they actually let him in the cave? When even high ranking politicians kept their distance so as not to interfere? Him doing this super creeps me out. Hope it is not some kind of bad omen.

Thailand is so beautiful? What about saluting the courage of the boys and divers? Praying for the rest to exit safely? Nope, just navel gazing. Incredible.

Elon has always weirded me out and his treatment of women reveals a lot about his character, as does this.

I think the lack of communication with the press has more to do with the fact that this is a military operation. Military commanders everywhere don't generally keep the press abreast of their every move. Just a guess.

by Anonymousreply 148July 10, 2018 1:54 AM

I hate the people who keep blaming the coach. They wouldn't be alive if he hadn't found a safe place inside the cave in the first place. He's survived his own horrors. The kids and their parents don't blame him, so that's all I need to know. The last I read, they'll be bringing the remaining kids out tonight, but leaving the coach for another day. I feel so horribly for him. I swear, I would pay his way to the US and look after him to the end of my days (and leave him everything). And I wouldn't expect anything in return. A good man is hard to find.

by Anonymousreply 150July 10, 2018 2:04 AM
Known to friends as ‘Ake’, Ekkapol grew up in a small village in North Thailand with his family. But in 2003, when he was only 10, a disease swept through the village, killing his mother, father, and seven-year-old brother.

When you go through hard times together, you develop a bond. These boys and their coach will be responsible to and for one another for the rest of their lives.

This goes beyond Buddhism, forget fatuous American tweets.

by Anonymousreply 187July 10, 2018 3:43 AM

JFC, r184 he wouldn't have needed to teach them shit if his lack of judgement hadn't put them in there in the first place. There are only a few people here who want him strung up by the balls. The rest of us, myself included, don't see a problem with pointing out his irresponsible decision cost a man his life. Going so far the other way to lionize someone who is responsible only serves to blunt others to the dangers of these situations.

Look at all the Everest threads where people place blame according to emotions, or how compelling a narrative it is, instead of on leaders' judgement errors. The moral hazard in this era is out of control.

I guess I haven’t been following along. The parents called him to go find the kids?
They left their bikes at the entrance and descended deep into the cave. The sign nearby warning that venturing inside during the wet season was dangerous because of the risk of sudden flooding meant little — this was a place they knew and loved.
They were a motley mob — hill tribe lads, Shan, Lahu and Lua, plus a couple of Lanna Thai (boys from the north) — on a boys’ own adventure. But their little journey of exploration was badly timed. A torrential downpour, hardly surprising at this time of year — rudu fon (rainy season) — has left them in a dire predicament.
Family members raised the alarm later that day. Where were they?
Their parents’ concern drove their coach 25-year-old Ekapol Jantawong, a stateless orphan who shared their love of football, to the cave. Near the entrance, he found their bikes, a discovery that meant he had to go deep inside to try to locate them and bring them back.
Ekapol’s role in this gripping tale of misadventure has been subject to intense scrutiny in the Thai press (and criticism on social media), but there seems little doubt he has played a substantial role in helping the boys to survive.
“When he was a boy he became a monk and studied while he lived in the temple (in Lamphun, several hours south); his parents were Burmese but had died, so he is a stateless person. He liked to do meditation and pray,” Am Sandford, a fixer for news teams at the scene said on Friday.
“He moved to Mae Sai (in Chiang Rai, near the cave) to stay with his grandmother. He loved to play football when he was a little boy. And he met many hill tribe kids on the Thai-Myanmar border. He felt they are like him — poor and with no opportunity to play football.
“He formed the football team with the main coach three years ago. The kids that joined the Moo Pa (literally “forest pigs”) team are mostly hill tribe. He loved all the 12 kids in the team as though they were his own sons. On Facebook or social media, he always posted stuff about the activities he did with the boys.”

So....the coach is totally innocent of leading the boys into the cave? Well, that totally changes the narrative and media need to retract all the lies

by Anonymousreply 192July 10, 2018 3:55 AM

Maybe R189 was referring to this article? It was just posted a few minutes ago.
All eight are said to be recovering well in hospital, where they have been given IV drips, vitimin B1 and vaccines against a swath of diseases, including rabies. Their blood is also undergoing tests.
But X-rays of two of the Wild Boar Academy team members’s lungs have revealed ‘irregularities’, officials say, which could indicate the onset of pneumonia. Some have high levels of white blood cells - also suggesting infection. Another is being treated for cuts and abrasions.
Doctors are awaiting the return of blood test results from Bangkok.
Public Health Permanent Secretary Dr Jetsada Chokedamrongsuk says the boys were all suffering low body temperatures after their two-week ordeal trapped on a muddy ledge in the flooded caves. Some also had low pulse rates.
They had to be gently warmed up to bring their core body temperatures back to normal. Those with low heart rates have also recovered.
Dr Chokedamrongsuk said the second batch of boys were stronger than the first four. He emphasised that all eight were recovering well despite their long exposed to humidity in caves and being exhausted by diving.
None are showing any sign of fever so far, he added.

From their dedicated ward, the boys have demanded meals of pad krapow – a Thai comfort dish made from spicy pork, basil leaves and rice. On doctor’s orders they are getting no more than baby food, Mr Osottanakorn revealed.

‘The four children from today are in good health,’ he said. ‘Doctors have told us we must be careful about the food that is given to them because they are fragile after starving for many days. They can take normal food like diluted porridge.’

Anxious parents of the first four had to wait 24 hours before being allowed to see their sons – and even then with no physical contact allowed.

Yesterday afternoon public health inspector Dr Thongchai Lertwilairattanapong said the parents of the latest foursome would be allowed to see their children in the evening but added: ‘Visitors will only be allowed to meet and talk to the patients but no hugging or touching – and they need to leave a one to two-metre distance.’

The rescue began at 10:08 local time (03:08 GMT), with 19 divers making their way into the cave.

If conditions allow, nine people will come out today - the four remaining boys, the coach, a doctor and Navy Seal divers who have been with them.

Thai Navy Seal divers have said that today's mission might take longer than usual.

The eight boys who are already rescued are said to be in good health.

by Anonymousreply 253July 10, 2018 10:11 AM

Just seeing great more detailed vision now of some of the tech structural rescue mechanisms set up inside the cave tunnels with loads of daisy chaining divers too.

Looks like much mire vision and rescue foiotage will be around as from the immediate post-rescue briefings.

Even if the whole shebang diesn't get the Hollywood Hilary Swank backstory treatment, I'm very hopeful of an amazing Thai Cave Rescue documentary in the months ahead. The world-wide fascination and attention has been too remarkable and notable, drawing together so msny elements , for there not to be.

As yet no news on the Coach or wellbeing of latest rescuees.

#11 out!! = BREAKING

by Anonymousreply 256July 10, 2018 10:22 AM

there was an article that other boys said they are all always in and out of that cave. one said he even got lost in it for 30 minutes. Obviously people use this cave all the time or they wouldn't have posted the warning abou0t staying out of the cave between July-Oct.

Did you ever hear of things just happening? that something is really no ones fault but just happens? If the coach wasn't there they wouldn't have survived. And if the coach wasn't there they may have all gone in without him if he actually did go in with them. Then who would you blame? you notice that the King said American women. We are such an angry people who constantly seek revenge, like Trump

by Anonymousreply 257July 10, 2018 10:24 AM

I hope the coach won't be in any more trouble...at least he helped get the boys somewhere safe.

by Anonymousreply 258July 10, 2018 10:26 AM

[Bold]Uhm, thanks, but no.[/bold]

The rescue of the soccer team in Thailand’s Tham Luang cave is nearly over, with a team of international divers entering today for what is hoped to be the final time. The divers will be making an 11-hour round trip through flooded passages to free the remaining trapped boys and their coach. They will do so, however, without Elon Musk’s purpose-built “kid-sized submarine.”

The SpaceX and Tesla CEO announced he would try to help with the rescue operation last week, and refashioned part of a Falcon 9 rocket into an underwater escape capsule for the children. Musk apparently flew out to Thailand with the device over the weekend, sharing photos and videos of the rescue site on social media.

But according to reports from The Guardian and ABC, Musk was “politely” told that the mini-submarine would not be of use. “Although his technology is good and sophisticated it’s not practical for this mission,” Narongsak Osatanakorn, head of the command centre overseeing the rescue, told reporters. Musk tweeted that the mini-sub was “ready if needed” and would be left at the cave system as it “may be useful in the future.”

Musk’s would-be involvement in the rescue operation has received a mix response on social media. Some have praised the businessman for his altruism, while others have suggested that his actions seem short-sighted and even opportunistic. Some were also skeptical of Musk’s choice of rescue vehicle, suggesting that the rigid mini-submarine would not be able to navigate the narrow twists and turns of the Tham Luang cave. Musk said divers who had traversed the passage had vouched that the device would be small enough.

by Anonymousreply 269July 10, 2018 10:52 AM

That's the most interesting paradox of the whole scenario really R257 - that if the Coach had not been with then no matter the circumstances of his presence in the first instance, those boys may very well have had no chance of survival even to have found tne rock beach within the cave when the cave flash flooded and/or the prolonged period in absolute pitch black darkness of 9 days before they wete found.

What happened to the person in critical condition when the vehicle went off the cliff a few days ago? Hoping that he recovers too.

by Anonymousreply 294July 10, 2018 11:40 AM

CBS just showed a cave in FL and what it would have been like in the dark. I think it is a miracle that those boys were able to even reach the safety that they did, completely in the dark and 2½ miles into the cave.

the result of the rescue is because the ENTIRE world was working for one goal. there were no sides, just one. too bad we won't learn from that.

by Anonymousreply 295July 10, 2018 11:41 AM

What will CNN have to talk about 24 hours a day now that these little assholes are out of that stupid cave? I guess there’s a backlog of Meghan Markle coverage that got preempted for this cave nonsense, so there’s that.

There are 3 divers and the Aussie doctor who are still at the original site, caring for the boys/coach. Not clear that they will be out today or not. Guess it depends on the logistics and oxygen support.

R280/R296 = You do realize you're talking about real-life people here? I can't imagine what it's like to interact with soulless Aspie cunts like yourselves in person.

I wouldn't even call it a happy ending. More of a bittersweet ending, since somebody has died.

by Anonymousreply 329July 10, 2018 1:44 PM

This whole saga has also shown us that there are still real heroes out there, who will risk their lives for children. It's been very tense and difficult just for people reading the news. For the people actually involved in the rescue, they've had some real skin in the battle. And that one diver (RIP, brave man) even lost his life trying to save these kids. Maybe it's just because I'm a gay guy, but I want to believe that heroic men still exist. I can't imagine diving through those tiny crevices, trying to bring those kids to safety. And the care they needed to show those boys.

by Anonymousreply 330July 10, 2018 1:49 PM

The thing that strikes me about this entire experience, is their patience. Not just the soccer team and their coach, which in itself is remarkable, but also the patience and the the deliberate, methodical way they approached the rescue from start to finish. Yes there was a sense of urgency, but they worked very deliberately pacing themselves, etc. especially after the one guy died. I'm just so impressed with that. There were no screaming parents or relatives performing in front of the cameras, and they all just handled it.

by Anonymousreply 331July 10, 2018 1:56 PM

But abc at 9pm tonight is Blackish. there is no special 20/20. i will record nightline.

by Anonymousreply 332July 10, 2018 2:01 PM

I once read somewhere years ago, that in the Far East and Asia, their mentality is focused very different than ours. They focus on solving problems and fixing things, while we focus on assigning blame. So when something bad happens, we are very quick to ask "Who did this? Whose fault is it?" And Their reaction is: What happened and how can it be fixed?"

by Anonymousreply 333July 10, 2018 2:03 PM

The History Boys (crush on a bi-curious guy).

by Anonymousreply 334July 10, 2018 2:08 PM

R333, you've got to be kidding. Asia is focused on "solving problems" and "fixing things"? Have you been to some of these countries? They are slow as fuck and not good at solving problems and fixing things. A few countries are great yes...but most of these countries are not.

The boys got out alive because of international help. Their own Royal Navy Seal died. Poor guy didn't know he didn't have enough oxygen...

I am not impressed with the Thai govt at all. I'm impressed with the international response and volunteers which include the local Thais, some of them stayed up all night to wash clothes for the cops so they had clean uniforms etc.

by Anonymousreply 335July 10, 2018 2:12 PM

Hallelujah! Congratulations Thailand! Congratulations international divers!! Great job by all. Great job together! Most relieved, most impressed. Speedy good health to all rescued. This is a good day today.

by Anonymousreply 336July 10, 2018 2:16 PM

It wasn't just the rescue people who were brave and clever, it was those kids. They hung on for days of pitch dark and starvation without going insane or doing anything stupid... and then they learned how to dive! Okay, not PADI certified, but they managed to get through miles of pitch-dark filthy water with dvuba gear, something that would drive the average datalounger to shrieking hysteria and drowning. Or being drowned by someone who had to listen to the screaming hissy fit.

It's almost enough to give you hope for humanity, they actually are capable of doing things right.

by Anonymousreply 337July 10, 2018 2:17 PM

Yeah, Elon Must was the one person involved in the rescue who made a complete ass of himself. Instead of actually trying to help he tried to prove that he was smarter than everyone else trying to rescue the kids... and actually proved he was not. Other people had a well-organized and successful rescue underway by the time he delivered his useless little invention.

And R355, I think I love you.

Asia & Pacific The Latest: Medic, divers who stayed with boys leave cave

People wait as police block the road during an emergency helicopter evacuation in Chiang Rai as divers evacuated some of the 12 boys and their coach trapped at Tham Luang cave in the Mae Sai district of Chiang Rai province, northern Thailand, Tuesday, July 10, 2018. Thai Navy SEALs say all 12 boys and their coach were rescued from the cave, ending an ordeal that lasted more than 2 weeks. (Vincent Thian/Associated Press) by Associated Press July 10 at 11:16 AM

MAE SAI, Thailand — The Latest on the rescue of a youth soccer team from a flooded cave in Thailand (all times local):

10:10 p.m.

The official who led the Thai cave rescue says the medic and three Thai navy SEAL divers who stayed with the trapped boys after they were found have left the flooded cave.

He says they are all in strong condition.

A daring rescue mission in the treacherous confines of the flooded cave in northern Thailand saved all 12 boys and their soccer coach who were trapped deep inside, ending an 18-day ordeal on Tuesday.

The leader of the operation, Chiang Rai acting Gov. Narongsak Osatanakorn, said, “We did something nobody thought possible.”

9:30 p.m.

One of soccer’s most popular teams, Manchester United, has expressed its relief over the rescue of the Thai youth soccer team and invited the Wild Boars players and coach, as well as those who saved them, to come see them play on their home ground this season.

A message posted on the ManU Twitter account said: “Our thoughts and prayers are with those affected. We would love to welcome the team from Wild Boars Football Club and their rescuers to Old Trafford this coming season.”

Manchester United is very popular in Thailand, with 135,000 “friends” on the local fan club’s Facebook page.

The international soccer federation, FIFA, had already invited the boys to attend the World Cup final in Russia this Sunday. However, doctors now treating the boys in a hospital have said it would be too soon for them to make the trip.

by Anonymousreply 362July 10, 2018 3:19 PM

Thailand’s prime minister says the 12 boys saved from a flooded cave were given an anti-anxiety medication to help with their rescue.

Asked at a weekly news conference Tuesday if the boys had been sedated, Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha said, “Who would chloroform them? If they’re chloroformed, how could they come out? It’s called Anxiolytic, something to make them not excited, not stressed.”

Prayuth also said the Tham Luang cave will be closed for some time. He said it needs to be made safe so it can be developed into a tourist destination.

The videos of the boys in the cave are heartbreaking. They are basically skin and bones.

by Anonymousreply 366July 10, 2018 3:24 PM

The young soccer players rescued from a partially flooded cave Tuesday were given anti-anxiety pills to help them safely complete their journey, officials said.

A source told Khaosod English that the four boys were “medically sedated” for the dangerous journey out of the Tham Luang cave network — to reduce the chance that they would have an anxiety attack on their way out.

“Reviving them fully is why it takes time for them to emerge from the cave entrance,” the source said.

by Anonymousreply 367July 10, 2018 3:41 PM

Amazing how much of this rescue was suggest on the DL before the fact, up to an including vicious arguments about what kind of medication the boys ought to have before going into the water.

If we'd been in charge, would we have gone with that sort of plan? Or would we have just bombed holes in the mountain, or given the kids cyanide pills? I mean, they might sit near us on an airplane some day.

by Anonymousreply 378July 10, 2018 3:55 PM

I'd like to thank all the divers from the bottom of my cold dark Datalounger's heart. Not just the Seals who pulled the kids themselves out of the cave, but every other diver who went in. Every diver who went to deliver tanks or lay a guide cable or ferry food to the kids was risking their fucking life, any one of them could have gone the way of Saman Kunan, on every trip into that hellhole.

I'd also like to thank everyone else who contributed, from the people who somehow got electricity into a wild cave, the drivers who delivered the air tanks, the organizers who came up with a successful rescue plan, the local farmers who let their fields be flooded by water pumped out of the cave, everyone who donated supplies, the cavers who combed the muddy forested mountainside looking for alternate routes, the cooks and launderers, everyone who had to deal with the parents, and the local people who are going to have to pick up a mountain of trash left behind by this massive show. Everyone, in fact, but Elon Musk.

Rather than Elon Musk crying big salty tears about what people are saying about him — and if, [italic]if,[/italic] he genuinely wants to help — he should just shut up and get to work on a way to help the peasant farmers whose fields were flooded and whose statements show them to have a million times more dignity than he could ever imagine.

Just go away and help people silently, without fanfare, and when word leaks out (and it will) that you've done something real, something that actually helped someone, we'll forget all about this debacle.

Apparently a lot of people, R403. Five threads thus far.

by Anonymousreply 405July 10, 2018 10:39 PM

We had this argument before the fact. It wouldn't have been possible to anesthetize the boys or knock them out for the whole trip, what they would have got is an anxiolytic that hopefully lasted a few hours. Something to help them relax and put up with unpleasantness and not panic, not something that would keep them asleep the whole time. Maybe a Xanax or a valium, at a guess.

Because the trip out would be both incredibly stressful and incredibly boring, hour after hour of being unable to see in pitch-dark water where your headlamp doesn't even allow you to see the diver who's dragging you along, hour after hour of being pulled along by a diver who isn't able to talk to you, hour after hour of cold and exhaustion, having to face horrible narrow tunnels or steep climbs after the cold water's been bleeding your energy away, hating every moment but being unable to stay where you are regardless of how tired you or the divers are. Hell yes, I'd like a valium before I started something like that, and a couple of extras to take along the way!

Although I think it's great that the kids were able to make it out at least partly under their own power. That will make a psychological difference, make the whole experience more of a triumph over adversity than a trauma.

by Anonymousreply 406July 10, 2018 10:56 PM
Way more PPL are gunned down every day. Who cares?

R403, And yet you're here, posting on this thread.

When people are gunned down, it's often a quick death. These little boys and their coach were hanging on, in a pitch black cave, slowly starving to death, and trying not to drown. The thought of their suffering, and how much worse it would have been had they not been rescued, brings me to tears. When the first diver in found them and reported back, many people were shocked that they were still alive. It didn't seem like there was much chance of rescuing them, given the condition. And yet, now they've been freed, and will need to try to recover from their ordeal. They conducted themselves with tremendous courage, and many others displayed their own courage by taking huge risks to try to save them. One heroic diver died during his effort to aid them. A death of honor trying to save another person's life is different from death by some random bullet.

by Anonymousreply 413July 10, 2018 11:40 PM

R409, in 2010, 33 miners were rescued from a collapsed mine in Chile after being trapped for 69 days. That was pretty dramatic & miraculous too -- they had to be pulled up one by one. But at least it wasn't flooded, & they were adults.

R430 My couch is blameless

by Anonymousreply 431July 11, 2018 1:30 AM

I don't know what originally happened that caused those kids and their coach to be trapped inside that cave. Only that it was an established local custom to engrave something on a wall in there, and many other locals had done the same thing. When the water rose, and the kids and their coach became trapped, he managed to shepherd them to a spot where they could remain dry, and wait for rescue. The coach tried to calm the little boys (that's what they are: think about it), by trying to teach them to meditate. Can you imagine being stuck, in absolute blackness, with no food, for that long, wondering if anyone is ever going to attempt to come for you? I'm a gay guy, not a frau, but the coach is still a hero, since his whole team is alive today. They wouldn't have survived without him.

by Anonymousreply 432July 11, 2018 1:39 AM

And they wouldn't ever have been in the cave during the rainy season without the coach. Crucify him! Put him to death!

by Anonymousreply 433July 11, 2018 1:41 AM

Agreed, R432. I read an article that described what happened when the first two British divers showed up. It seemed like they thought they were just there exploring the cave; they apparently didn't think anyone was even looking for them. Only the one boy speaks any English but the rest of them just started saying "eat, eat, eat" over and over because they knew what that word meant. It was so heart-breaking.

by Anonymousreply 434July 11, 2018 1:45 AM

I don't understand how come it took 9 days for anyone to find them? That is shocking. It was known to others that they were going there. There were videos of they biking there. their bikes were outside the cave...yet the Thai authorities can't do anything?

by Anonymousreply 435July 11, 2018 1:52 AM

they started gathering on day 2. I don't know where all this 9 days is coming from. It took them all that time to find them

by Anonymousreply 436July 11, 2018 1:54 AM

I don't blame the coach but that Perth article posted by an idiot claims the parents went to the coach, to ask him to find the kids coz they weren't home yet etc. The coach went to cave and became trapped there with them lol. This is why you can't believe everything you read.

by Anonymousreply 437July 11, 2018 1:54 AM

by Anonymousreply 440July 11, 2018 1:57 AM

the Brits didn't walk in on day 9 and just stumble upon them

by Anonymousreply 441July 11, 2018 1:57 AM

The Aussies were searching for them as well, together with the Brits. The Aussies stop searching at 5pm (they were taking a break) and 2 hours later, the Brits found them.

by Anonymousreply 442July 11, 2018 1:59 AM

I think it is amazing that the pumps pumping out the water from the cave stopped working just as the last of the divers were gathering stuff to bring out of the cave and it started to fill up with a lot of water.

by Anonymousreply 443July 11, 2018 2:02 AM

"I don't understand how come it took 9 days for anyone to find them? "

Because flooded caves are very dangerous, and very convoluted. It wasn't a question of following a known path along a cave floor and seeing if anyone was there, it was a question of feeling their way through pitch-dark, murky water with zero visibility and dangerous currents pulling them this way and that, and finding out which of the millions of holes and crevices they couldn't see into led onto the rest of the cave, and weren't dead ends or shallow holes. Fortunately this cave is less complex that some, it seems to have only two main branches instead of dozens of pits and side passages, which makes it less complex than a lot of big caves. With that and the difficulty of getting many divers and lots of dive equipment to a backwater of rural Thailand, it's amazing it only took nine days to find them !

I used to dive a lot, but dayamn, this is why I never wanted to take up cave diving or caving.

R437 Based on what was said on tonight's 20/20, the assistant coach went into the cave with them and got trapped. When the children didn't show up at home, the parents contacted the team's head coach, who went and discovered their bikes chained up by the cave. I think that article may have confused the two different coaches for one person.

by Anonymousreply 446July 11, 2018 2:06 AM

And those boys and their coach also faced insurmountable odds that would have bested most people. I wouldn't have survived, and wouldn't be missed. Given that the media is tightly controlled in Thailand, can we really generalize about what the parents or "Thai people" think about this story? It seems very condescending to ascribe to them all these positive characteristics. Who knows what any of them feel about the coach or the rescue effort.

"I did my part. I told everyone from day 1 that they would all be rescued and come out alive."

Don't give yourself airs, sweetie, you did what the rest of us did, sit at home and talk! Of course that's all I did, and it's been very interesting an informative. But the only effect any of my days and days of chatter have had is that a couple of people know a tiny bit more about caves and diving than they did last week.

If anyone had actually wanted to help, sending enough money to buy a couple of compressed air tanks would have done more good than all the words we exchanged.

by Anonymousreply 467July 11, 2018 2:35 AM

Also, to say that the live human beings who actually did execute a flawless rescue were actually aided by spirits, discredits the divers' skill AND makes you look like a silly cunt.

I got the biggest laugh watching CNN this morning. They were interviewing two American divers who "were instrumental in the rescue of the boys." Obviously the interviewer wanted them to be #1 heros. She asked how long they were in the cave. One said he wasn't in the cave but at one of the organizational tents. She asked the other how he helped each boy and what his interaction with the boys was. He said he was helping at one of the cave stations but never saw a boy. She was so frustrated they were not #1 while they kept repeating that it was an international effort and all participants, in what ever function, was a hero. They were great...she was an idiot. BTW there was a Canadian diver, Erik Brown of Langley B.C, who spent 64 hours over several shifts in the cave but Canadian participation has yet to be recognized. He's on the left of the photo.

I'm surprised one of the 13 didn't try to get out to get help. He probably would not have made it, but it's very surprising one of them didn't panic and try to go for it. It had to be nuts in that cave.

by Anonymousreply 485July 11, 2018 5:16 PM

I think they didn't try to get out and get help because they were surrounded by water, and none of them could swim.

And if none of the kids did anything stupid and got themselves killed, I give the credit to the coach. It's the nature of boys that age to do stupid things and get killed, if the coach kept them all calm, sane, and alive during their incarceration than he did better than about seven billion other adults would have done.

Daily Mail has video of the Seals taking the kids out of the cave, where the kids are sedated and lying on cots that are handed down the line by the Seals. I'm not linking but it looks scary.

by Anonymousreply 494July 11, 2018 8:25 PM

If the kids are lying on cots, R494, it's not necessarily because they're sedated - by the time they got out of the cave they were probably too exhausted to walk!

So these kids were stressed and starved and exposed to God knows what kind of microbes for two weeks, and then they got out of the cave by swimming for a mile or so, walking the rest of the way, and climbing a 100 foot rock slope. Of course they were probably towed or supported most of the way, but FYI even being in cold water for that length of time drains your energy, even if you're wearing a good wetsuit. Being in cold, murky, filthy, water where you can't see a damn thing and death is lurking around every corner is unbelievably physically exhausting, not to mention stressful. So if the kids were too tired to walk at the end of that trip it's not necessarily because of the medication they were given, and my admiration for the Navy Seals who put themselves through all that multiple times is off the charts. We'll never know what they endured, but they endured it rather than let children die slow horrible deaths underground.

by Anonymousreply 499July 11, 2018 9:44 PM

The kids were largely asleep through the expedition, one of the rescuers said Wednesday.

“Some of them were asleep, some were wiggling their fingers … [as if] groggy, but they were breathing,” Commander Chaiyananta Peeranarong told AFP.

by Anonymousreply 500July 11, 2018 9:54 PM

Did the kids fear they would be molested if sedated during the trip out ?

And they wanted KFC, not some stupid Asian fried chicken.

by Anonymousreply 501July 11, 2018 10:00 PM

KFC serves Asian fried chicken, R501! Duh! Almost all awful American fast food joints tweak their recipes a bit to accommodate a different host nation's palate.

by Anonymousreply 502July 12, 2018 12:31 AM

It was suggested they were heavily sedated so as not to panic because panic would have killed the diver and the kid. Since the Dr. that was with them was an anesthesiologist I am going to guess that he suggested the dosage. This might explain why at least one kid was strapped to a diver while they were swimming. The governor thanked the Dr. for he did but did not elaborate on what it was. None of it matters though because they got them out.

The most interesting thing in that story was that if that had happened in the US they would have not been allowed to sedate them at all. Then they would have all been screwed.

by Anonymousreply 503July 12, 2018 1:08 AM

Seek intense psychiatric help, R501, as soon as possible.

by Anonymousreply 504July 12, 2018 1:11 AM

Am anesthesiologist wasn't going to heavily sedated the kids when he couldn't monitor their vitals, or to the point where they might not be able to protect their airways.

He'd just give them a really comfortable dose of an anxiolytic. Sorry, gotta go.

by Anonymousreply 521July 12, 2018 3:53 AM

Who the fuck cares how they got them out. The point is they got them out.

by Anonymousreply 522July 12, 2018 5:09 AM

Why is it so bad if the boys were knocked out properly to maintain their calm in the ascent to save their very lives? I would prefer to be unconscious and bouyant rather than conscious and panicking during a four hour ascent during a dirty, murky tunnel with zero visibility as I though the walls were collapsing in on me or I would drown with my limited oxygen supply. The Aussie anesthesiologist called this entirely right and managed to dose the children well enough so they wouldn't gag or panic in the water, not just killing themselves, but their rescuers and the entire international daisy chain that depended on everyone keeping his end calmly.

Small children in unforgiving and crazy circumstances cannot, contain themselves as some have suggested, so they got a sedative.

If it were me under there, I would choose to be knocked out because I should not be trusted under panic situations to do what is best for the group.

And why the complaints when everyone except for the national hero Thai Navy Seal?

by Anonymousreply 523July 12, 2018 6:37 AM

Wrapped up in stretchers unconscious and passed from diver to diver like a piece of carcass ? Does that sound ok ?

After days of mounting speculation, a former Thai Navy Seal diver broke the silence, revealing the boys were sleeping or partially-conscious as they were passed from diver-to-diver through the cave. “Some of them were asleep, some of them were wiggling their fingers … (as if) groggy, but they were breathing,” Commander Chaiyananta Peeranarong said.

“My job was to transfer them along,” he said, adding the “boys were wrapped up in stretchers already when they were being transferred” and were monitored at regular intervals by doctors posted along the kilometres-long escape route.

by Anonymousreply 524July 12, 2018 7:03 AM

You sound cunty, R524,

by Anonymousreply 525July 12, 2018 7:23 AM

Why does R524 think sleeping and wiggling fingers is a bad outcome?

by Anonymousreply 526July 12, 2018 8:46 AM

It's interesting too the first joint statement released by Dr Richard Harris and his dive partner Craig Challen, alongside declaring how humbled they were to have partcipated and contributed. Dr Harris says something along the lines too directly on the boys: "....thanks for placing their trust in him."

Sure, he has medical and technical expertise to have made that medical call, but can you imagine the undercurrent of stress he carried, if anything had gone medically wrong in that daisy chain sequence out along the kilometres of tunnel.

I'm glad he had the collegiate support along that daisy chain to have monitored that aspect competently.

Those kids were weak and exhausted and it would not have taken much to set off a panic attack or have them hyperventilating, etc. endangering themselves or others, so why not a very mild sedative to calm them? It makes sense. And having a genuine anesthesiologist administer it based on their weight, was a wise decision.

by Anonymousreply 532July 12, 2018 11:18 AM

The players Pornchai Kamluang, Adul Sam-on and Mongkhol Boonpiam, plus their coach, Ekaphol Chantawong, whose families come from northern Thailand’s porous and largely lawless border regions abutting Myanmar’s Shan state, are technically stateless and not considered citizens under Thai law, leaving them without many of the rights their teammates enjoy.

The three boys have Thai ID cards, which grant them some basic rights, but the coach has no legal status, making him vulnerable to deportation and technically ineligible to receive some public services.

Venus Sirsuk, the director of the Bureau of Registration at the Thai interior ministry, confirmed his office was looking into granting citizenship to the four. “Right now, the officials in Mae Sai district office are looking into their birth evidence. We have to see whether they were born in Thailand, and whether they have either a Thai father or mother.”

Asked how long it would take, he told the Guardian: “I have no idea. It depends on whether we find the documents.”

Puttanee Kangkun, a Thai human rights specialist for Fortify Rights, said a lack of citizenship meant the four had limited rights.

“Under Thai law, stateless persons are still able to obtain some basic rights such as the right to education and access to health service. This is why some of these boys who are stateless are able to go to school, despite their status.

The people objecting to giving the boys a mild sedative must be part of that weird religion that doesn’t believe in surgery or blood transfusions. To save lives, people are often put under and have much more traumatic things done to them than being guided along a corridor.

Or this is trolling at its most idiotic

by Anonymousreply 536July 12, 2018 2:56 PM

you would think they would give the coach Thai citizenship for saving all those Thai boys

by Anonymousreply 537July 12, 2018 3:29 PM

The coach is a wetback and needs to be deported back to El Salvador ASAP.

by Anonymousreply 538July 12, 2018 3:35 PM

Ketamine isn't a "mild sedative", it's an anesthetic or heavy-duty sedative, and I wouldn't have thought it possible to give it in conditions like that. Especially since people can get agitated or have hallucinations as it begins to wear off, which would be a danger to the child and the diver who's towing them along the cave. But it doesn't affect the vitals as much as most other such drugs so there you are.

Quite frankly, giving the kids something that serious and dragging them through miles of cold water was VERY dangerous, but if they decided it was less dangerous than any of the alternatives. Dang, I can't believe they carried it off, with the risks they took. Compliments to everyone involved, especially the doctor who got it right!

by Anonymousreply 539July 12, 2018 3:52 PM

by Anonymousreply 547July 12, 2018 10:32 PM

by Anonymousreply 548July 12, 2018 10:41 PM

It probably wasn't absolutely necessary to drug the boys with something that strong, but it gave the divers 100% control over the situation and if that's what they needed to get the job done then fine, drug the boys. I have to agree with some of the posters here. What has come to light since this "rescue" has really diminished my experience as a viewer.

It started to go south for me when they allowed professional divers to go into the cave. Is that really what this story was supposed to be about? First it was divers, then it was doctors, then artificial lighting, then food and silver blankets, and on and on... That sort of thing would NEVER be allowed on Naked and Afraid!

And now we've learned that these professionals were allowed to physically pull the boys out, after still more professionals placed extra tanks all along the route! Seriously?? I won't even bother getting into the pumps, the full-face masks, the ketamine, the stretchers, the ambulances, the helicopters, the umbrellas, the antibiotics... You binged it with me; you know the deal.

They lost me. I promise you, I won't be back for more. This whole "rescue" has been negated as far as I'm concerned.

by Anonymousreply 557July 13, 2018 1:33 AM

R555, so the rescue was accomplished by experienced professionals who knew what would have to be done to make it happen as opposed semi-amateurs who probably would have failed but made it much more dramatic so you are out of here? Bye.

by Anonymousreply 558July 13, 2018 2:32 AM

They're fine. They send their love.

by Anonymousreply 559July 13, 2018 2:34 AM

R555, i just realized how brilliantly you trolled me. My hat's off to you.

by Anonymousreply 560July 13, 2018 2:34 AM

R555 is obviously a facetious post.

by Anonymousreply 561July 13, 2018 2:34 AM

R555 is making fun of the dorks complaining about ketamine etc.

by Anonymousreply 562July 13, 2018 4:57 AM

R555 Well, it was said early on thread part 1 that this Cave was a complete bottom.

So far, all those divers are being ever so humble. I wonder where the egoist attention whore skank scuba Dude is, ready to dish all the inside scoop.

I want the inside documentary breakdown NOW!

by Anonymousreply 563July 13, 2018 5:18 AM

A remarkable example of international cooperation. Here’s the smiling faces of the Australian contingent who, under the leadership of the Royal Thai Navy Seals, worked together with crews from China, the UK and the US to return the Wild Boars soccer team and their coach home.

Haven’t seen one big ego studying all these divers from everywhere. They are all humble and dedicated.

In case I get stuck like John Jones in the Nutty Putty cave, please cut off my arm and leg instead of singing Mormon hymns and giving me pizza.

That’s a great picture.

by Anonymousreply 565July 13, 2018 6:01 AM

uh yeah, please pull me out soon after making me slimmer.

r567 that's what I thought. Whenever they show an American working there I always wonder why are you really there.

by Anonymousreply 570July 13, 2018 10:40 AM

Pedophile is now a verb?

by Anonymousreply 571July 13, 2018 10:42 AM

What a great video of the Wild Boars. The Thai script under the vidoe translates as, "When we have to win, we have to win more than the win, it is the only way to make us cry, we do not have to be shy to see tears."

The youth soccer team trapped in a Thailand cave for 18 days ventured inside just for “fun” — and only planned to spend about an hour there, according to a new report.

Aikhan Wiboonrungruang, 33, whose 11-year-old son Chanin — also known as Titan — was the youngest member of the Wild Boars soccer team, told The Bangkok Post she spoke to her son from behind a glass isolation barrier while he and his teammates recovered at Chiangrai Prachanukroh Hospital.

The boys had not taken along any snacks when they visited the Tham Luang Cave after their training session — and they did not want to spend more than an hour there, according to the report.

But when heavy rains caused a flash flood, the boys were forced to venture deeper into the cave.

“After the first three nights with no food in the cave, my son felt extreme hunger and cried,” Wiboonrungruang told the outlet. “He had to rely only on water dripping from the rock. It was very cold at night, and pitch-dark. They had to lie huddled together.”

Coach Ekapol Chathawong encouraged the boys to meditate to help ease their hunger and conserve energy, the mother said. He also used a torchlight to find water dripping from the cave ceiling to drink, Banphot Konkham, 45, father of Duangthep Phromthep, 13, told the outlet.

The last four boys on the 12-member team, along with their 25-year-old coach were rescued on Tuesday.

The rescue is still surreal to me. I hope every video and inch of sonar or whatever mapping capability used is preserved and documented within an inch

by Anonymousreply 578July 13, 2018 3:22 PM

I do not know why the fuck anyone would go there for fun, it's fucking dark and creepy!

And the rescuers are all saints! If I had the money, I would pay for them all to go on a much needed vacation! The waters are just fucking disgusting and gross looking from videos and can't believe they had to be in that environment for fucking 12 hrs!

by Anonymousreply 579July 13, 2018 3:28 PM

Pee-Pat to blame for that.

The Thai diminution trolls are getting tiresome enough for rejection, aren't they? It wouldn't be too untoward to ignore the fuckers, would it?

The PornKorns, R584?

by Anonymousreply 585July 13, 2018 6:42 PM

And now we learn from R582's link that the divers were allowed to do run-throughs in a swimming pool (a swimming pool!), a note containing outside advice from the coach's monastery was given to him, and the junior druggies, cozy and warm in their k-holes, were floated out cosseted inside snug little burrito wraps.

....and I feel the need to remind you once again of the ketamine. NEVER forget the ketamine.

R574 Sandra Oh can play Amp, Rick Stanton's Thai translator Nurse girlfriend.

That's Diver Matt at extreme left at R564 among the Aussie contingent - I see he has respectable bulge.

Great link and read agreed, R582. The more details that emerge about the myriad technical aspects of this whole story from disappearance day and still going on while the Boars and cutie (blameless hero) Coach Ek are in quarantine isolation, the more amazing and fascinating it apoears in respect of human co-operative determination andi ingenuity.

For example, among many, the detail in that R582 WaPo piece about, say, the local Thai shrimp farmer who drives over 500 miles before the boys were even found, with his four generator pumps on a flat-bed vehicle just to try to contribute.

I hope notice is paid - if ever there was cause for a legit GoFundMe?!- to the more than 100 local farmers, now that many have left the scene, who with flooded fields have now lost their entire year's harvest.

The boys are to be discharged this Thursday! They're eager to eat some real food once they get back into their families' embrace.
The 12 boys and their soccer coach rescued from a flooded cave in northern Thailand are recovering well and are eager to eat their favorite comfort foods after their expected discharge from a hospital next week.
"All of the 13 people, their physical bodies are strong, and fit. Regarding infections, through the medical evaluations in the first days there may be some of them that had minor pneumonia, but now all is cleared, no fever," Piyasakol said. Several were also reported earlier to be recovering from minor lung and middle ear infections.
A hospital statement said that as the boys continue to recover, they remain susceptible to infectious disease. To avoid mental stress, they should spend at least the next month only with family and friends, avoiding media encounters that might trigger post-traumatic stress disorder symptoms, the statement said.

This worked for several reasons. The first is that the entire world worked as one unit. From the people at the site to those all over the world praying or sending good vibes. Also the help that came from the other side. I keep telling people they have no idea how much help we receive from the other side but most people either don't believe it or just ignore it.

I had something happen yesterday which I can't explain except that I know it had to have come from the other side. I was coming home on a two lane road (one lane each direction) and the speed limit is 55, most people do 60/65. There is a little town you go thru and the speed drops down to 35. I was in this town and I think I was doing 40 when an Amish wagon started pulling out onto the road with two young guys standing in it going in the opposite direction of me. I hit my brakes lightly just out of reflex and may have pulled slightly to my right. As the horses were rounding out onto the road and I was next to the wagon a large SUV doing at least 70 passed me and was between me and wagon. I have no idea where that SUV came from because I never saw him until he was right next to me and scared the crap out of me. There was no possible way that car could have fit between us because there just wasn't enough room. After I passed the wagon I looked in my rear view and both Amish guys were staring at the SUV which was now almost out of sight still doing about 70. Someone saved all of us.
About three hours after the last boys and Chantawong made it out on Tuesday, with the last navy personnel leaving the cave, the entire rescue system suddenly collapsed.
“All of a sudden a water pipe burst and the main pump stopped working,” Changkwanyuen said. “We really had to run from the third chamber to the entrance because the water level was rising very quickly – like 50cm every 10 minutes.”
Australian divers in chamber three described hearing screams further up the tunnel, then seeing a rush of head lamps coming towards them.
“It was like a movie scene, everything was collapsing,” Changkwanyuen said. “It was one of those acts of God. The cave spirit didn’t want us in there any more. It was saying, ‘I’ve had enough of you guys, it’s time to leave.’”
Rasmussen does not have a spiritual explanation, but agrees the timing was eerie. “That everything breaks down as soon as everybody’s safe? It’s just weird,” he said.

From 590's link.

by Anonymousreply 592July 15, 2018 3:38 AM

Oh bull, R591. The rescue worked because hundreds of thousands did whatever they could, from letting their rice fields be flooded to doing one of the most dangerous dives imaginable over and over and tremendous personal risk.

And it was, I must say, an absolute masterpiece of project management! Everything was done when it absolutely had to be done, the whole thing should be taught in management and business programs as an example of how to accomplish a impossible task that was thought to be impossible. Bring in the experts, listen to what they say, find supplies for them, work in the time frame you have, and think outside the fucking box.

^I'm surprised they decided to reveal the diver's death to the children so soon. What a way to put a damper on the post-rescue exhilaration they were probably feeling up to that point.

by Anonymousreply 598July 15, 2018 3:53 PM

Maybe their psychologists believe the sooner the better, r598? I would also think the coach will take that news the hardest and once again blame himself.

they knew they were going to find out as son as they left the hospital so was probably better that they told them
