A. Zverev edition. Continue discussion.
I can’t wait for Serena to win it all! Her comeback will be complete.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | July 7, 2018 2:39 PM |
Okay, R1. I’m a Serena fan. No need to mock us.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | July 7, 2018 2:42 PM |
Halep wasnt going to beat Serena on grass anyway so I'm okay with this result.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | July 7, 2018 2:47 PM |
Coverboy A. Zverev is about to start his match against Gulbis
by Anonymous | reply 4 | July 7, 2018 2:48 PM |
I thought Novak was supposed to be the next coverboy to jinx him? I'm fine with Zvereva losing today too
by Anonymous | reply 5 | July 7, 2018 2:52 PM |
Has this ever happened before -- only one of the top 10 seeds making it to the second week of a Major?
by Anonymous | reply 6 | July 7, 2018 3:02 PM |
R1 Go fuck yourself. And I think we should officially call it a CUNTback. Let's get that trending on twitter, people! #cuntback
R3 It's about the evil, cheating cunt gaining ranking points on all the top players while doing nothing. For example, if the bitch wins she'll essentially be gaining 4,000 points on Muguruza because some asshole scheduled the defending champion to play the red-headed goober in the dark...while Serena gets perfect scheduling against choking losers.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | July 7, 2018 3:03 PM |
R7 jeez chill out. I dont want Serena to win either but you're intense.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | July 7, 2018 3:07 PM |
Here's to the thread cover boy jinx.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | July 7, 2018 3:10 PM |
By the US Open or the Australian, Serena should be back to her full form. This tournament is just practice. She is playing herself into shape over the last few weeks. Good to see.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | July 7, 2018 3:12 PM |
Can't stand Serena's coach. Hes commentating on ESPN. Such a smarmy asshole!
by Anonymous | reply 11 | July 7, 2018 3:14 PM |
Is it true that he pays Serena to be her coach?
by Anonymous | reply 12 | July 7, 2018 3:17 PM |
R6 I would guess a big fat NO on that one. It's only happening because it's the only way the demon cunt can win the tournament.
R7 Can you tell I don't like her? Ha! She's basically the Donald Trump of the WTA, so that may help you understand why I have so much disdain for her.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | July 7, 2018 3:21 PM |
Frances Taifoe gives me life!
by Anonymous | reply 14 | July 7, 2018 3:26 PM |
Yes, R12
by Anonymous | reply 15 | July 7, 2018 3:29 PM |
Fed is a very classy player - as long as things go his way. When he's pressed, his true colors come out. And he can barely contain his disdain for Novak, some of which is no doubt due to his native Swiss snobbery.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | July 7, 2018 3:30 PM |
R10 If I hear someone else say Serena is "playing her way into shape" I'm gonna scream. Bitch has been playing her way into shape for the last 15 years!! Why does no one understand that she doesn't need to be in shape. Her game is entirely about her serve. If she's serving fine, she'll win 90% of the time no matter what shape she is in. Especially on a tour full of chokers who regularly double fault themselves into trouble.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | July 7, 2018 3:30 PM |
So, in ladies' singles, the ONLY Top-10 seeded player to reach 4th round is... Karolina Pliskova who, prior to this year, had never been past 2nd round at Wimbledon.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | July 7, 2018 3:30 PM |
No, R12
by Anonymous | reply 19 | July 7, 2018 3:30 PM |
MARY, MARY, MARY at R7
R7 = Irina Spirela
by Anonymous | reply 20 | July 7, 2018 3:31 PM |
Sadly, Irina would probably have a better chance of beating Serena than any of the dumbasses left in this tournament. The WTA has been pathetic for years.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | July 7, 2018 3:35 PM |
Good to see that Sasha has officially replaced Domi as DL favorite. His trolling and gay baiting seems to have worked. Anyway I wonder what will happen if he will start parading some chick as his GF in next few months? How will DL react
by Anonymous | reply 22 | July 7, 2018 3:37 PM |
Fucking Sasha!!! . Can't even beat a little brat like Earnest easily
by Anonymous | reply 23 | July 7, 2018 3:39 PM |
Boobs out!
by Anonymous | reply 24 | July 7, 2018 3:44 PM |
Osaka has gotten herself in much better shape, but court movement is still an issue for her.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | July 7, 2018 3:45 PM |
A. Zverev has not replaced Domicakes as my favorite. The final discussion on the last thread was centered on him so I made A. Zverev the poster boy for this thread. I’m not a fan of his lanky looks personally.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | July 7, 2018 3:47 PM |
Did the Puig! troll get stuck in that cave in Thailand? Totally disappeared.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | July 7, 2018 3:50 PM |
Kerber looked very solid against Osaka. She might be able to challenge Serena.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | July 7, 2018 3:51 PM |
No fan of the younger Zverev here, either, far from it. He needs to take charm lessons from his older brother.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | July 7, 2018 3:52 PM |
Misha is very submissive . Sasha is dominant one
by Anonymous | reply 31 | July 7, 2018 3:53 PM |
If Serena gets to the final I hope she plays either Kerber or Ostapenko.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | July 7, 2018 3:57 PM |
R28 I think Giorgi is our only hope, so she'll lose to whiny Makarova of course.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | July 7, 2018 3:57 PM |
R27 plz don’t remind us
by Anonymous | reply 34 | July 7, 2018 4:02 PM |
R32, Ostapenko has a lot of moxie and won't be easily intimidated, but I think Serena will be able to exploit Jelena's weak serve and limited movement. The two women have never met, though, so at least it would be interesting to see how that match-up plays out.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | July 7, 2018 4:03 PM |
fucking BBC website is not working because "their lads "managed to reach semis in that useless game called Soccer. Now how I will able to watch tennis of outside courts ?
by Anonymous | reply 36 | July 7, 2018 4:04 PM |
To R601 from the last thread, people don't emulate Navratilova or Graf because they are superior athletes. Evert's game is more adaptable to those who aren't as athletic. Not that these women aren't athletes, but Navratilova or Graf probably could have played any sport they wanted and excelled. They are just naturally gifted. Someone like a Seles was not a gifted athlete, but she was an incredible shot maker who was tough as nails pre-stabbing. Now we have a lot of bashers who aren't as athletic, like Pliskbot, Osaka, and Keys. I think Sloane Stevens is actually a really good athlete, but she doesn't seem to take advantage of it.
Navratilova and Graf were athletic enough to play serve-and-volley (Martina) and an all-court game (Graf and Navratilova could, too). Graf got away with that slice backhand because she was so naturally fast, she could run around it and hit winners off her forehand. Martina was much the same way. Serve-and-volley requires a natural athlete. Martina was one of the best ever at it.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | July 7, 2018 4:07 PM |
R35 They met at an exho last December, Ostapenko won 6-2, 3-6, 10-5 (not that this means much).
by Anonymous | reply 38 | July 7, 2018 4:09 PM |
Hell no to Ostapenko in the final. We need someone that can defend like crazy and make Serena hit a million balls.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | July 7, 2018 4:20 PM |
In her prime, Seles had exceptional hand/eye coordination as well as footwork.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | July 7, 2018 4:24 PM |
R35, does Ostapenko have a lot of spunk too?
by Anonymous | reply 41 | July 7, 2018 4:33 PM |
Not necessarily, R31.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | July 7, 2018 4:35 PM |
"What he says doesn't matter, he's a linesman!!!!" - Sasha Zverev
by Anonymous | reply 43 | July 7, 2018 4:56 PM |
"Since when can a linesman give me a warning? He just wants to be important so someone can remember his face!" - Sasha Zverev
by Anonymous | reply 44 | July 7, 2018 4:59 PM |
R43 & R44 Yeah. He was a little cunty about that. That was the break-down tension talking. He's back on track now.
R41 Yes, all over her face. Whore!
by Anonymous | reply 45 | July 7, 2018 5:06 PM |
Yeah, R45, back on track toward more cuntiness.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | July 7, 2018 5:08 PM |
Zvever is back on track in being the usual arrogant idiot he is
by Anonymous | reply 47 | July 7, 2018 5:09 PM |
And they say the WTA is full of mean, nasty, cunty women.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | July 7, 2018 5:10 PM |
If you’re looking for the Donald Trump of the WTA, it’s definitely Coco V.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | July 7, 2018 5:22 PM |
Is hot but extremely boring Kyle Edmund gonna win?
by Anonymous | reply 50 | July 7, 2018 5:30 PM |
hot?
by Anonymous | reply 51 | July 7, 2018 5:43 PM |
Frances Tiafoe collapse is almost complete . What a let down from 2 set to 0 and a break point in third set for a 4/3 lead . Never recovered from that game
by Anonymous | reply 52 | July 7, 2018 5:44 PM |
I don't think Zverev will survive the fifth set, fortunately for him Gulbis is as talented as he is a head case so anything could happen
by Anonymous | reply 53 | July 7, 2018 5:44 PM |
And Tiafoe really tanked in the last two sets
by Anonymous | reply 54 | July 7, 2018 5:45 PM |
Tiafoe is injured.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | July 7, 2018 5:45 PM |
Is sasha is gonna have another early grand-slam exit?
by Anonymous | reply 56 | July 7, 2018 5:45 PM |
R53, which Zverev?
by Anonymous | reply 57 | July 7, 2018 5:47 PM |
poor kyle is fading fast
by Anonymous | reply 58 | July 7, 2018 5:49 PM |
ESL, you never fail to kick players when they're down.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | July 7, 2018 5:49 PM |
Tiafoe collapse is now complete . Karen will play winner of Nole/Kyle match
by Anonymous | reply 60 | July 7, 2018 5:50 PM |
R57: Oh, come on. The only one who is playing
by Anonymous | reply 61 | July 7, 2018 5:50 PM |
Carpenter, ESL?
by Anonymous | reply 62 | July 7, 2018 5:51 PM |
ESL doesn't have DL Fave Misery to kick around so he needs to target others like Casper the ghost (Edmund).
by Anonymous | reply 63 | July 7, 2018 5:51 PM |
And Zverev face two break points in his first serve. I'm starting to think that he is really a loser that is unable to deal with the pressure of a GS
by Anonymous | reply 64 | July 7, 2018 5:53 PM |
Gulbis thrice lucky in that last game to break. Boo!
by Anonymous | reply 65 | July 7, 2018 5:56 PM |
Targeting Kyle?? I love Kyle .Unlike other DLers I find him beautiful and his play very exciting . I wish he would win and take out a big four . Its not my fault that Nole is playing a very sold game and Kyle has lost two straight serve. To beat today 's Nole ,Kyle has to be at his 100 percent but he is not
by Anonymous | reply 66 | July 7, 2018 5:56 PM |
R51 yes Kyle is hot
by Anonymous | reply 67 | July 7, 2018 5:57 PM |
Byebye Zverev
by Anonymous | reply 68 | July 7, 2018 5:59 PM |
Sasha collapse is almost complete
by Anonymous | reply 69 | July 7, 2018 5:59 PM |
I'm always worried that Kyle will burst in to flames if he stays in the sunny part of the court for too long.
by Anonymous | reply 70 | July 7, 2018 6:00 PM |
R69, will he ever be chancellor?
by Anonymous | reply 71 | July 7, 2018 6:01 PM |
Tonight Sasha can stay up late and watch and like all the semi nude Russian and Latvian underwear model on instgram while Melo bang him from behind
by Anonymous | reply 72 | July 7, 2018 6:03 PM |
ESL, do you have Vaseline and hand inside shorts right about now?
by Anonymous | reply 73 | July 7, 2018 6:04 PM |
5:0! Not watching the match, what is Sascha doing? Did he give up again in the 5th, like against Chung?
by Anonymous | reply 74 | July 7, 2018 6:08 PM |
OP, thanks for the jinx!!
by Anonymous | reply 75 | July 7, 2018 6:09 PM |
Sascha is a pathetic loser. Wimbledon was not the best GS for him to break up but this kind of choking is a very bad sign for the future. I complain a lot about Federer and Nadal's dominance but there's a reason why they are able to dominate even when their peaks are long gone
by Anonymous | reply 76 | July 7, 2018 6:09 PM |
[quote]ESL, do you have Vaseline and hand inside shorts right about now?
That is so 2017 when I use to do that while watching Domi.
These days I write Saha /Melo fan fiction in my trademark bad English while stuffing my mouth with burgers chips and other junk food like those fat fraus who writes Wincest brothers fan fiction
by Anonymous | reply 77 | July 7, 2018 6:09 PM |
Wow, the coverboy jinx is real.
Now hurry and fill this thread up with Puig! Posts and put Nole on the cover of the next thread
by Anonymous | reply 78 | July 7, 2018 6:12 PM |
This is the second time this year that Sasha has been bageled in the fifth set in a slam in the third round by an unseeded player.
by Anonymous | reply 79 | July 7, 2018 6:13 PM |
R77 is not ESL.
by Anonymous | reply 80 | July 7, 2018 6:15 PM |
That's clear, R80. R77 has a sense of humor.
by Anonymous | reply 81 | July 7, 2018 6:17 PM |
A. Zverev
by Anonymous | reply 82 | July 7, 2018 6:20 PM |
If Kyrgios ends up playing Gulbis in the round of 16, we've got our douchebro match of the tournament.
by Anonymous | reply 83 | July 7, 2018 6:22 PM |
Definitely Sasha Zverev needed to break out of that early loss syndrome at Slams this year. He got to the Quarters of the French, but he had plenty of 5 setters along the way that should have been 3 or 4 setters. I used to be high on A. Zverev. Now, not so much.
Any chance for Vesely against Nadal? I've never seen him play.
by Anonymous | reply 84 | July 7, 2018 6:22 PM |
Djokovic has been such an asshole with the crowd today. I can see why the British don’t care for him
by Anonymous | reply 85 | July 7, 2018 6:23 PM |
LOL I don't have sense of humor but I am R77
by Anonymous | reply 86 | July 7, 2018 6:28 PM |
If you want to jinx someone bet high and put Nadal or Federer. If i were Zverev i would hire some psicological help, it's becoming quite obvious that something happens that don't let him develop his potential at GS. Grass is not his best surface and lose against Gulbis (who defeated top players at GS before) won't be news, but he keeps doing the same thing GS after GS. If he is a top player able to defeat everyone on the circuit and winning masters 1000 he should be making qtr on GS at least. Tennis are not math and being number 3 in the world doesn't translate into semis (not even being number one just ask Marcelo Ríos) but he has to overcome this burden as soon as possible. In tennis a match can make a difference, and he is losing those 5 set matches on GS. And even before losing he is having long matches too early in the competition to be at the top of his game in the last rounds anyway
by Anonymous | reply 87 | July 7, 2018 6:29 PM |
Now that Sascha is gone i'm going to send my positive vibes to Kyrgios to make him realize he is really that good to get a surprise win here (well, now poor Nick is done for sure)
by Anonymous | reply 88 | July 7, 2018 6:31 PM |
Kyrgios...talk about someone who should die in a grease fire!
by Anonymous | reply 89 | July 7, 2018 6:33 PM |
R89: Come on, he is the bad boy of the atp and everybody likes a bad boy redeemed himself with an epic victory (urgg, i think i watched too many Disney movies)
by Anonymous | reply 90 | July 7, 2018 6:39 PM |
Problem with A Zverev is that he never has any plan B. A top player should have a plan B. His game is too one dimensional . If a player start playing too inspiring tennis [e.g Coric in US open, Chung in Aussie open and Karen,Damir in French open and Taylor/Ernest in Wimbledon] then he becomes clueless and just wait for their collapse but unfortunately it didn't happen always /
Also note his three master victories
Rogers cup[Roger was injured in final. Sasha din't played exceptional tennis through out tournament ]
Italian open[Only top player he defeated was Nole who was very bad that day. You can rewatch that game on youtube . Sasha didn't played well. He just played ok]
Madrid masters[Only good player he played was Domi who was physically and mentally depleted after defeating Rafa and Anderson]
So even his masters wins also have big *on them
by Anonymous | reply 91 | July 7, 2018 6:42 PM |
R89 No, that's Serena
by Anonymous | reply 92 | July 7, 2018 6:49 PM |
Sorry, but it doesn't matter if their rivals weren't at their best, he won because he was in the final and was better that day. That's all that matters. Agassi was terrible during two sets in his final against Medvedev in Roland Garros, he was on the verge of tears, and suddenly Medveded decided to choke big time. That doesn't mean Agassi didn't deserve to win, he was in the final and if his rival decided to tank is not his business. Even without his masters 1000 victories, Sascha is a regular player on the circuit, he is generally in the last rounds, so he should be doing better on GS. And of course he needs to improve his game (he could learn a thing or two of his brother about how to play on the net) but he is showing some mental burden losing those tight matches on early rounds. He generally don't completely collapse like Coric did this Wimbledon (when he was on top form and seemed ready to step up in his career) but the result is a loss anyway
by Anonymous | reply 93 | July 7, 2018 6:49 PM |
Come on Kyle . Do it for your queeeen
by Anonymous | reply 94 | July 7, 2018 6:50 PM |
I'd like to see Edmund win but my word, these line/umpire calls have been shockingly bad.
by Anonymous | reply 95 | July 7, 2018 6:52 PM |
I knew i should shut up about my positive vibes. Poor Nick lost 61 the first set and he is a break down in the second
Edmund is another player that seems on the verge of step up in his career, and no place better to do it than Wimbledon
by Anonymous | reply 96 | July 7, 2018 6:52 PM |
What is going on with Kyrgios?
by Anonymous | reply 97 | July 7, 2018 7:12 PM |
Well, he came back. Now that we are in the decisive part of the second set we'll see if the come back is for good. It's incredible how bad Wimbledon makes its schedule. There are a lot of odds that they won't end this match today, and given they have the fucking tradition of not playing on Sunday, they'll have to wait till monday. I read somewhere that Federer was against using white clothes on Wimbledon, but i think that's a nice tradition (you have the other three GS and the rest of the year to wear whatever you want)
by Anonymous | reply 98 | July 7, 2018 7:17 PM |

Kyrgios is the all time thug of all thugs. Glad he's down two sets. Hope he blows his ACL in the third set.

Sascha managed to win 6 points in the decider.
by Anonymous | reply 102 | July 7, 2018 7:34 PM |
R100 Again, that's Serena. Why do I have to keep doing this? Ditto on that ACL injury for her too.

by Anonymous | reply 106 | July 7, 2018 7:43 PM |
Favorite point of the tournament so far: In the second set tiebreaker, Kyrgios takes a massive fuck-you-all forehand swing and the ball somehow lands in, only for it to be blocked back by Nishikori for a clean winner. Kyrgios is such as ass and I love when he gets burned like that.
by Anonymous | reply 107 | July 7, 2018 7:46 PM |
Sascha has been sick and seems to have run out of energy at the end. His reaction about the linesman was bad but I think as has been the case before he gets really angry when he is accused of lying basically. Not an excuse but some context.
He and Marcelo need to go on holiday now and be generous with photos.
As for Nole, with a crowd worse than a Davis Cup crowd, cheering a time violation for him, his reaction is understandable. Then the umpire robbed him of an important point... I am really glad he won.
by Anonymous | reply 108 | July 7, 2018 8:01 PM |

Nole was asked about his favourite US Open moment during his press conference and picked the "lucky" shot that helped him win the semifinal against Federer in 2011. A small refresher as to what was said after that match.

R116 I never understood what the big deal was about that shot. Federer's serve was nothing special and Nole's shot was well inside the sideline – he hits returns like that all the time. I would've considered it lucky if he had caught 1mm of the line or had framed the ball onto the line (a la Serena), but that was simply a well struck return.
And "tetchy" (from the article)? Is that a combination of testy and touchy? I've never seen that word before.

by Anonymous | reply 125 | July 7, 2018 10:47 PM |
R124 If true, Simona should have had him step on Hsieh Su-wei before the match today. Whoops!
Even though I had a feeling she was going to blow that match, I still can't believe she did. This year's tournament is a complete disaster...and it hasn't even rained yet!
by Anonymous | reply 126 | July 7, 2018 10:51 PM |
LOL at that article, r116. As someone earlier summarized it, yeah Federer is a classy player as long as he's winning.
by Anonymous | reply 127 | July 7, 2018 10:56 PM |
R122 I got the meaning from the context, but thanks! Mr. Kevin Mitchell must've had his thesaurus ready that day. You go, Kevin Mitchell!

Anyone watch that “Strokes of Genius” documentary on Roger and Rafa? It spends a good deal of time covering young Roger’s bad behavior and tantrums when he lost. His parents had to tell him that he embarrassed them.
Clearly, Rog has gotten control of that side of him but it escapes a bit every blue moon.
by Anonymous | reply 129 | July 7, 2018 11:10 PM |
Perhaps Djokovic's parents haven't told him yet how much his behavior embarrasses them.
by Anonymous | reply 130 | July 7, 2018 11:18 PM |
I far prefer tantrums (as long as they are not violent towards people...rackets are fine) over being dismissive of opponents or ungracious in victory and defeat.

Djokovic looks seriously deranged. Some players mellow with age. His temperament's grown increasingly worse. Ten years ago I was a fan. Now quite the opposite.

for the next thread please make Federer, Nadal and Djokovic joint coverboys. I'm so sick of them. Nadal and Federer really couldn't have asked for better first week Wimbledon draws.
Vesely is a big hitter but he's wildly inconsistent. He will punish any weak Nadal serves though
but please people,, stop wishing injury and death on the players. That's really insane .

Djokovic has always been a big box of crazy ever since he came on the tour. I don't think he's gotten worse. He usually tries so hard to be good, but he's always fighting the knowledge that he's a villain.

R148: It's a pity that he is a douchebag.
Federer and Rafa are classy and polite, well at least when they won, when they lose not so much, but they worked hard for the clean image and unless they stab their opponent with a bunch of witness the image will stay no matter what they do (and Nadal's words about women's payment is a testament of that, Nole said the same and it was a bloodbath, but with Rafa nothing happened). Anyway i think we'll se a lot of Nadal tantrums once they really enforce the time rule. He is losing his cool more and more lately with that.
To be honest i don't be surprised if Rafa reach the final but right now he has nothing to do against Federer, at least not on grass

R49 I WASN'T talking about who was the biggest MAGAt Republicunt.
I was referring to Trump and Serena's: 1. Extreme narcissism 2. Their inability to admit to or apologize for any wrongdoing (unless forced to – and then the apology is insincere) 3. Their blindly loyal fans who often defend their boorish behavior 4. The fact that they both project their own bad behavior onto their opponents and attack those who try to hold them accountable for said behavior 5. The fact that both have achieved things they never would have because of significant financial advantage and outside influence 6. And they will both lie and cheat to win
There are probably more parallels, but you get the idea.

R164; You should try spanish commentators in Nadal's matches. Sometimes you feel the need to cheer for his rival only because you want them to shut up.
And i'm talking abou the decent ones. One of the commentators on last year's RG final was blatantly disrespectful to Stan Wawrinka, he was more like a hooligan. Even Nadal's fans blasted him on twitter

Ugh, Nadal is going to straight-set Vesely. Either Delpo, Djokovic, or Nishikori are the only likely hopes left to take out Nadal before the final. But I said before the tournament that Nadal was due at Wimbledon. He's finally got a comfortable draw to let him ease his way through the first week, and he's had not real threat today from Vesely, who looks totally outclassed. Nadal could take this whole thing.

^no real threat
by Anonymous | reply 209 | July 9, 2018 4:15 PM |
I agree, r208. Nadal is standing really close to the baseline, both for service return and for groundstrokes, so you know he's confident and is seeing the ball well.
by Anonymous | reply 210 | July 9, 2018 4:20 PM |
Really? I have not yet seen Nadal play during this Wimbledon. Doesn’t he usually stand so far behind the baseline like he’s about to vanish from the screen?

by Anonymous | reply 217 | July 9, 2018 5:00 PM |
Grass usually rewards the superior athletes. Pliskbot has a big serve, but she doesn't move well at all. Venus and Serena are great athletes, which is why they each have so many Wimbledon titles. Same for Navratilova and Graf.

by Anonymous | reply 224 | July 9, 2018 5:36 PM |
R208: Nadal lost his last five matches against Federer. I doubt he'll be able to defeat Federer on grass. I'm really surprised by how young players seem to fear playing against the big four (unless they are clearly out of form), i can understand people like Dimitrov, Berdych, Ferrer and Gasquet not getting into the best mentality to win after years and years of losing, but youngters should be able to give them some trouble at least till Federer, Nadal and company prove them that they are better. It's a pity Tsitsipas lost, big servers are incredibly boring on grass

It's the way that all the commentators continually circle jerk over Federer and Nadal. Yes they're the 2 best men's players possibly ever but endless love for them is nauseating. That's 1 thing I liked about Djokovic is that he came on tour and was not content to be in third place. He had a belief he could compete with the very best and he did it.
I wish more of the younger guys had the same attitude as the upcoming girls. These girls do want to beat the legends.

by Anonymous | reply 229 | July 9, 2018 6:01 PM |
R227: People don't give enough credit to Djokovic. He had to face two of the best tennis players ever and Nadal and Federer have completely opposite styles, so the way to defeat them is different. He had to overcome the mental burden of being defeated by them in the past and he was able to do all that, became the dominant player winning 12 GS and having a positive h2h against both
by Anonymous | reply 230 | July 9, 2018 6:35 PM |
Khachanov is hot, I'm sorry. Hot quads and legs, and a nice ass - and could be a Hemsworth Brother (ish)
by Anonymous | reply 231 | July 9, 2018 6:36 PM |
I agree with R227 and R230. What Djokovic did between 2011 through the first half of 2016 was remarkable. Think about how many Grand Slams Federer, and especially Nadal, would have won during that period. Nadal would probably be ahead of Federer in overall Slam count had Djokovic not risen to the top.
by Anonymous | reply 232 | July 9, 2018 6:46 PM |
I agree, R230. He really is not getting enough credit. I always feel like many feel like he just spoiled the party for those two. And he also had to overcome the public/media negativity that Federer (and Roddick about his retirements) had set in motion with his early comments about him, then later on the fact that Nadal was not quite as friendly once Djokovic started beating him. Nadal at least managed to overcome that quickly and is generally quite gracious about Djokovic now.
by Anonymous | reply 233 | July 9, 2018 6:48 PM |
Djokovic definitely made men's tennis more interesting by keeping it from being just a two man race for a few years.
by Anonymous | reply 234 | July 9, 2018 6:52 PM |
There's a pretty good case to be made that Fed, Nadal and Djoko are the three best ever- I would throw Laver in their midst. His talent was wild, every shot known including a top spin backhand which few players had in prior to modern rackets and strings. So Novak is very much in the running and I would not be at all surprised if in the coming year he emerges back on top. He could beat top form Nadal on clay.
by Anonymous | reply 235 | July 9, 2018 6:58 PM |
Simon looks like he is sporting wood out there.
by Anonymous | reply 236 | July 9, 2018 7:01 PM |
Yes, Laver should have the record of GS if he had played all those years he was a pro.
Anyway in my opinion the big three dominance has a lot to do with the ones that followed them being extremely weak mentally. I know it's very difficult to overcome three amazing players with very different styles of play, but most of them seemed defeated before even the match started.
Wawrinka who always was a very unconsistent player showed that they weren't unbeatable. Delpo (before all the injuries) showed that they weren't unbeatable. But for most players there was a burden beyond the proper game.
Of course Nadal's game is poison for young players. Unless your game fit very well into the high bouncing balls he shot, his mental strength and defensive skills are simply too much for players that no matter how talented they are tend to be unconsistent
by Anonymous | reply 237 | July 9, 2018 7:04 PM |
I wish Sampras had stayed on tour another few years. He and Federer only played that 1 time at Wimbledon and it was fun to watch. I 'm happy that Agassi stayed on until his back just couldn't take it anymore. Even though he wasn't 100% physically I'm glad he got to play Nadal once.
BTW people forget that Agassi owned Federer 3-0 until he was 33 and then Federer swept the last 8 matches.
by Anonymous | reply 238 | July 9, 2018 7:06 PM |
it's pretty clear at this point that the in-between men's generation will only have slam winners if someone else takes out the big 3 for them, the big 3 are not 100% physically, or the big 3 retire. The younger guys do have much more promise but they're not matured yet physically or mentally.
Dimitrov's ranking is going to take a real beating after he doesn't defend Cincinnati or the WTF

Of course Cilic seemed unable to win a GS and he did it (but i'm not sure if he would be able to defeat Federer in the final as he did in the semis)

Raonic has a nice game (nothing great but quite good) apart of his big serve. Isner is simply to big and heavy, but when he is on he can be dangerous in any surface (Nadal suffered to win against him a lot of years ago in the first round of Roland Garros, the closer he was to lose in Paris without losing). The problem with big servers is that they are incredibly boring to watch on grass. I remember the Sampras-Ivanisevic final and it was a boredom after the entertaining Martinez-Navratilova final. To be honest i think a big server could have defeated Nadal in the early rounds but now it'll needed someone better like Nole to defeat him

Of all the women quarterfinalists, only half seem to have the "right" bodies for tennis. If I saw Kerber on the street, for example, I might have guessed she's a professional tennis player, but Ostapenko's body looks quite frau-esque and I would never have thought she won the French Open last year. Of course, Serena, the greatest women's player in history, doesn't exactly have the kind of body I'd associate with tennis either. So, of all major sports, is tennis the most accommodating of different body types?

I guess ESPN (the app) does not feel that Delpo-Simon is worth it. They have an astronaut, two Presser feeds, two Wimbledon Channels and one in Spanish. No Delpo.....
by Anonymous | reply 261 | July 10, 2018 12:50 PM |
R261, finally ESPN2 switched to the Delpo v. Simon match.

DelPo team.

Ugh, Delpo was serving for the match but really blew that game.
by Anonymous | reply 265 | July 10, 2018 1:11 PM |
Delpo serving for the match, even had match point, then blew it. Now he has to serve to stay in the set.
by Anonymous | reply 266 | July 10, 2018 1:12 PM |
Delpo finally closes out Simon. I'm glad it didn't go to five sets because Delpo is going to need all his energy for Nadal.
by Anonymous | reply 267 | July 10, 2018 1:23 PM |
it took 4 hr 25 min for del po to dispose off Simon on Grass .So I think anyone can predict match of Juan/rafa
by Anonymous | reply 268 | July 10, 2018 1:24 PM |
Delpo!!!! I am surprised that it will be his second QF at Wimbledon. He looked very tired, unfortunately.
by Anonymous | reply 269 | July 10, 2018 1:25 PM |
Yeah, r269, Delpo looked both tired and impatient -- and that's not going to help at all when he plays Rafa.
by Anonymous | reply 270 | July 10, 2018 1:31 PM |
Yeah, Delpo is going to have to serve big, hit winners, and hope Nadal is a bit off. If Delpo can get out to an early lead, Nadal may get nervous as the ghosts of his past losses prey on him. But probably Nadal wins.
Ostapenko looked good today. Kerber looked a little tight closing out Kasatkina. I have no idea who will win between Bertens and Goerges. It's hard not to see Serena in the final, but Serena can have off days and beat herself. Unless she does that, though, I see Serena in the final. But whether Ostapenko or Kerber, both could challenge Serena.
by Anonymous | reply 271 | July 10, 2018 1:44 PM |
And who is that beautiful man sitting in Delpo's box? He has a beard (the man).
by Anonymous | reply 272 | July 10, 2018 1:57 PM |
From the replies: Apparently Nole only played one of his nine QFs on Centre Court...even when Roger and Rafa were not there?? Wow, that is ridiculous.
by Anonymous | reply 273 | July 10, 2018 1:57 PM |
So far, Giorgi doesn't intimidated at all playing Serena.
by Anonymous | reply 274 | July 10, 2018 2:17 PM |
Giorgi says she doesn't watch tennis, doesn't really like tennis and doesn't really know who Serena is. So I'm not surprised she isn't intimidated.
by Anonymous | reply 275 | July 10, 2018 2:27 PM |
Giorgi takes the first set.
by Anonymous | reply 276 | July 10, 2018 2:34 PM |
Wow, impressive from Giorgi so far. Not sure if Serena can raise her game enough if Giorgi stays consistent in hitting the ball as hard as she's hitting it.
by Anonymous | reply 277 | July 10, 2018 2:34 PM |
Giorgi is also serving beautifully. Some of her first serves are above 110 mph with good placement.
by Anonymous | reply 278 | July 10, 2018 2:35 PM |
Giorgi has no "game B," so if she starts missing some of her forehands and serves, don't expect her to change tactics. She'll just keep hitting the fur off the ball, whether it goes in or not.
by Anonymous | reply 279 | July 10, 2018 2:39 PM |
ESPN just showed a stat that the average speed of Giorgi's groundstrokes is 4 mph faster than Serena's average speed (72 to 68 mph).
by Anonymous | reply 280 | July 10, 2018 2:40 PM |
Shit, I had a work call and came back with Serena up a break. Is Serena playing better or did Giorgi's level drop, or was it a combination of both?
by Anonymous | reply 281 | July 10, 2018 2:53 PM |
Giorgi's level dipped ever so slightly, r281. Williams is about the same.
by Anonymous | reply 282 | July 10, 2018 2:58 PM |

Serena's serve is really clicking now. If she continues to serve like this, she'll have her 24th Major title.
by Anonymous | reply 284 | July 10, 2018 3:37 PM |
Serena won 74% of her SECOND serve points. That is so unreal.
by Anonymous | reply 285 | July 10, 2018 3:42 PM |
She's the greatest.

by Anonymous | reply 287 | July 10, 2018 3:47 PM |
Agreed that Serena will be unbeatable if she continues to serve like today; she lost only 10 points on her serve over the 2nd AND 3rd set!
by Anonymous | reply 288 | July 10, 2018 3:59 PM |
I knew Serena would have trouble with Giorgi. It's a shame Giorgi and her father are such odd balls because I love her game-she's like the WTA version of Fernando Gonzalez with the way she goes for broke on almost every shot. Serena was really impressive after dropping that first set.
I'm surprised that Kerber vs. Kasatkina, Osapenko vs. Cibulkova didn't both go 3 sets. I'm happy both the slam champs won though. The SF lineup now looks very decent.
Biggest surprise for me was Goerges defeating Bertens. I thought Bertens would win in straights based on her form.
Glad Del Potro won but I bet he'll be pooped tomorrow against Nadal. Remember at the USO last year when he won a long match against Federer and then had nothing left in the SF against Nadal? I expect the same tomorrow
by Anonymous | reply 289 | July 10, 2018 4:13 PM |
I wonder if Serena will stick with it the next year or two to try to get to 25 Slams, then retire. She seems to struggle, though, when she’s bumping up against those records.
by Anonymous | reply 290 | July 10, 2018 4:28 PM |
If she wins this then she just needs one more. I hope she gets it within the year and retires after. She will have a record no one will probably ever reach, what's the point in continuing. Shes also talked about wanting more kids and she wont want to be too much older for that with her medical problems in the past.
by Anonymous | reply 291 | July 10, 2018 4:35 PM |
I give her another 2 years.
I don't see why she can't/won't win Wimbledon and the US this year. And if she can do that, then 26+ will be easier since she won't have to deal with any expectations or pressure. Who can really challenge her anyway? The rest of the WTA truly are mental midgets.
by Anonymous | reply 292 | July 10, 2018 4:45 PM |
I wonder about Venus' tennis plans. Last year she had great results despite not winning a title but this year she's struggling to win matches. I doubt she'll defend her USO SF points either. She could finish the year outside the top 30 unless she starts doing well again. Other than her IW & Miami results this season, she's been awful.
by Anonymous | reply 293 | July 10, 2018 4:45 PM |
R291
I thought Court's grand slam record was going to be untouchable in perpetuity but here we are. Serena would be dumb to to stop trying after the 25th. If one is able, why not raise the ceiling as high possible?
by Anonymous | reply 294 | July 10, 2018 4:48 PM |
26 would already be hard to pass. The closest of active players is her sister at 7.
by Anonymous | reply 295 | July 10, 2018 4:50 PM |
WTA's so bad right now, I think Steffi (oops sorry, Stefany) Graf would have a chance as a 40-something year old.
by Anonymous | reply 296 | July 10, 2018 4:59 PM |
I think Davenport could come back now and beat some of these WTA gals.
by Anonymous | reply 297 | July 10, 2018 5:27 PM |
when you're an all-time great, you can often compete with players after retiring. I remember Graf retired in 1999. In 2004, she played World Team Tennis and defeated Likhovsteva who was just coming off of a SF run at RG
by Anonymous | reply 298 | July 10, 2018 5:36 PM |
If Goerges was unable to trouble Serena on clay, there's zero probabilities that she'll trouble her on grass. Kerber and Ostapenko both can defeat Serena, in my opinion Kerber has more chances because her game is very different. It will depend of how inspired will be Serena with her serve, if she had one of those days where she serves like there's no tomorrow any rival will be toast. Giorgi is a player who is able to challenge everyone, unfortunately that's all she can do because she has real problems to close her matches.
Nishikori-Djokovic, Nadal-Del Potro will be interesting. Of course all the chances Del Potro has rely on him being able to start the match winning, if he lost the first set it'll be a heavy defeat like in Roland Garros

Serena's serving today in the 2nd and 3rd sets was downright scary. When her serve is clicking, the rest of her game can be at just 80% and she can still beat anyone on the WTA.
by Anonymous | reply 303 | July 10, 2018 9:07 PM |
Hopefully Serena's serve is off more than it's on or unfortunately she will win.

by Anonymous | reply 306 | July 10, 2018 10:30 PM |
well as someone posted above, Djokovic complained (and rightfully so) that he hasn't been on center court that much at all this year.
by Anonymous | reply 307 | July 10, 2018 10:32 PM |
Speaking of how weak the WTA is now... I wonder if Davenport/Capriati/Hingis are pissed. If they were playing now? They'd have SO many more Slams. Similarly, if Steffi hadn't retired in near peak form? She'd have 25 or 26 herself IMHO.
by Anonymous | reply 308 | July 10, 2018 10:49 PM |
What gets me frustrated with the organizers is that Centre Court can be available for play because the day's scheduled matches are complete, and they won't move a match over there. Even though they have the ability to close the roof and play a bit later into the evening to get the match finished. On Monday, instead of trying to move Djokovic's match to Centre, they put a Jamie Murray mixed doubles match on Centre.
I get that a Jamie Murray match might have some fans in the U.K., but do you risk screwing over Djokovic or Khachanov by making the start Monday, finish Tuesday, return Wednesday? That gives the organizers a little more say in the results than I'm comfortable with.
The solution is easy: adjust the court assignments so you don't have two best-of-five matches on courts that have limited time capacity. Centre Court is fine, knowing they can go late, but Court Two, where Simon and Delpo got screwed? Have two women's matches/one men's match.
(Also, play a final set tiebreaker.)
by Anonymous | reply 309 | July 10, 2018 10:54 PM |
I expect there's quite a bit of maintenance and attention to the grass in Centre so it's camera ready for the next day.

I was rooting for Kasatkina against Kerber today. Her game is beautiful to watch and she can be such a gadfly with her perfect drop shots. Too bad she doesn’t have a more forceful serve, because she was generally able to outfox Kerber in long rallies. If she can find more power in her serve, she’ll have a real shot at winning titles.

Not wanting to be a curmudgeon, I nevertheless have to ask whether there is anything remotely humorous about posting "A. Zverev", "B. Zverev", etc. Is there some hidden DL joke or irony that I'm missing? Because it seems pointless and idiotic.
by Anonymous | reply 316 | July 11, 2018 1:07 AM |
R316, “Nole” is simply a substitute for “Bump” on DL tennis threads. No more, no less.
by Anonymous | reply 317 | July 11, 2018 1:08 AM |
In which case it's even more idiotic since there's no need to bump an already busy enough thread.

Jana's game was amazing, if she was mentally tougher the story would be very different because she was the type of player who was able to cause trouble to everyone. Monica really struggled against her in the big matches, but Monica killer instinct almost always prevailed.
To be honest, i want Djokovic to win. Rafa and Roger made their come back, now it's time Nole make his. And by US open i wish a qtr full of new talents, i need new faces in the last rounds
by Anonymous | reply 328 | July 11, 2018 11:58 AM |
It seems Novak and Roger started their matches very focused. Nishikori doesn't seem in the best form to upset Nole (even he is progressing quite well) and Anderson didn't have enough game to give Federer trouble unless he had an amazing day with his serve (but his serve is powerful but his percentage of first serves is not that high)
by Anonymous | reply 329 | July 11, 2018 12:27 PM |

R345 he is a two time champion and normally plays better here the deeper he goes in the tournament.
by Anonymous | reply 347 | July 11, 2018 1:59 PM |
I don't know why people dismiss Nadal this way. I remember Muller saying he would never win Wimbledon. Nadal is a two time champion and a three time runner up. yes, he is vulnerable on this surface (specially on early rounds) but if he is fit he is a player difficult to beat
by Anonymous | reply 348 | July 11, 2018 2:06 PM |
I don't even like Nadal, and I'm not discounting his chances because as R348 observes, Nadal is fit and difficult to beat. Nadal is tough to play on any surface. This year, Nadal got everything he needed to do well at Wimbledon--a cake draw in the early rounds, never facing a big server and when he did, it was a big server who can't move that well, and hot, dry conditions that make the court have a truer bounce. Delpo can win, but he's got to server very well and win that first set.

Happy Fed lost. I was wrong.
by Anonymous | reply 400 | July 11, 2018 4:29 PM |
All props to Anderson, who clawed his way back after being down two sets to none, and then saving a matchpoint in the 3rd set. He really held his nerve and actually started serving even better as the match wore on.
by Anonymous | reply 401 | July 11, 2018 4:33 PM |
Anderson raised his game and Fed's game dropped. I thought it looked like Anderson was more likely to break. Fed was inconsistent today and looked nervous as the match wore on. Definitely props to Anderson for raising his game and staying with it, but he didn't beat an in-form Fed in those last three sets. I bet Anderson loses in the semis to either Raonic or Isner (hopefully Raonic--can't stand Trumpster servebot Isner).
by Anonymous | reply 402 | July 11, 2018 4:37 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 403 | July 11, 2018 4:38 PM |
From losing to Schwartzman from 2-0 and a break up at Roland Garros to beating Federer from 0-2 and a MP down at Wimbledon,
We can always recover from out past and shed the loser tag. Great victory for Anderson Cooper, so happy for him
Roger was gracious in his loss but crowd was not.The muted applause we get after victory or a gentleman like Anderson was disappointing.
by Anonymous | reply 404 | July 11, 2018 4:41 PM |
Roger Federer fans are rude as fuck. Many blaming court placement need to shut up. Oh no their precious Fed can't always play on centre.
by Anonymous | reply 405 | July 11, 2018 4:43 PM |
Fucking Delpo serving for the second and plays like shit. Goddamn! I think if Nadal wins this Wimbledon, he will surely overtake Federer in the Slam count.
by Anonymous | reply 406 | July 11, 2018 4:44 PM |
It was very inspiring match
by Anonymous | reply 407 | July 11, 2018 4:48 PM |
Anderson Cooper?
by Anonymous | reply 408 | July 11, 2018 4:50 PM |
Roger looked old in those last sets. He had no passion oomph.
delPo looks tired.
by Anonymous | reply 409 | July 11, 2018 4:50 PM |
Delpo needs this second set to have a chance. Can't see him pulling off what Anderson did 2 sets down.
by Anonymous | reply 410 | July 11, 2018 4:53 PM |
Andy Murray stays true to his deadpan self in debut as pundit
by Anonymous | reply 411 | July 11, 2018 4:54 PM |
So who's the fave now? I like Nole's chance. He seems to be peaking.
by Anonymous | reply 412 | July 11, 2018 4:55 PM |
It's crazy that Djokovic is the fav. Him or Nadal really since they've won so many. He hasnt been at this stage of a slam in a bit.
by Anonymous | reply 413 | July 11, 2018 4:56 PM |
Nadal is Nadal, so he's definitely tough to beat, but I don't think he's playing THAT well that he can't be beaten. Delpo should have served out that second set. Now he'll likely be down 2 sets to 0. I think Nole is the only one left in the draw who can beat Nadal. Certainly whoever gets to the final on this side of the draw is favored over whoever is left on Federer's side. Still, I think Nadal is the favorite overall because he desperately wants to do well at Wimbledon again. It will be Djokovic's desire to come back to the winner's circle vs. Nadal's desire to finally do well at Wimbledon again. Should be a good match to watch.
by Anonymous | reply 414 | July 11, 2018 5:02 PM |
Maybe Nadal and Djokovic will wear each other out so much that whoever makes it through that top half has a chance.
by Anonymous | reply 415 | July 11, 2018 5:02 PM |
That will be Isner, r415, who will Make American Tennis Great Again!

Delpo!
by Anonymous | reply 418 | July 11, 2018 5:07 PM |
I thought Djokovic was peaking just right because he looked so solid against Khachanov. But today, against Nishikori, Novak seemed to lack the confidence to really dictate points at key times. He was fortunate that Nishikori was also a bit off.

I'd rather Djokovic win than Nadal even though he is kind of obnoxious.
by Anonymous | reply 423 | July 11, 2018 5:37 PM |
R422, he was asking John McEnroe to guess how much it cost to buy a ball kid's outfit. But does it really matter what he says? He annoys by simply talking.
by Anonymous | reply 424 | July 11, 2018 5:39 PM |
Uh-oh! So now Delpo leads 2 sets to 1 against Nadal.
by Anonymous | reply 425 | July 11, 2018 5:53 PM |
Nadal will need to do it in 5
by Anonymous | reply 426 | July 11, 2018 5:53 PM |
Of course Nadal takes a long break to try to break Delpo's momentum.
by Anonymous | reply 427 | July 11, 2018 5:57 PM |
Isner will probably lose
by Anonymous | reply 428 | July 11, 2018 6:03 PM |

Delpo vs. Raonic final.....Ratings through the roof!
by Anonymous | reply 435 | July 11, 2018 6:17 PM |
Agree, R434. My favorite behind DelPo is Anderson.
by Anonymous | reply 436 | July 11, 2018 6:18 PM |
And just when people say that he lost his fighting spirit he broke Delpo's serve. If they go to five sets Nadal is clearly the favourite. Delpo will fight but i doubt he will prevail.
Anyway, Nadal is not playing good enough to intimidate Djokovic
and i want Isner out. Raonic is bearable, but Isner is a slow serve bot
by Anonymous | reply 437 | July 11, 2018 6:18 PM |
Delpo had all the momentum, then plays a shitty service game to give Nadal the break. Can he get the momentum back? Nadal still looks a bit skittish.
by Anonymous | reply 438 | July 11, 2018 6:20 PM |
And isner broke Raonic. With this type of players a break is huge and even more on grass
by Anonymous | reply 439 | July 11, 2018 6:34 PM |
Shit, Nadal/Delpo looks like it's going 5, and Delpo is starting to look weary while Nadal looks like he's gaining energy.
by Anonymous | reply 440 | July 11, 2018 6:37 PM |
Yea R439 neither one is giving much ground so this break is pivotal
by Anonymous | reply 441 | July 11, 2018 6:37 PM |
fucking useless delpo

Before today, Federer and Nadal have never lost at a slam on the same day. can delpo do this 4 us?
by Anonymous | reply 443 | July 11, 2018 6:40 PM |
delpo should take a long bathroom brake right now .let rafa OCDing on court in anticipation
by Anonymous | reply 444 | July 11, 2018 6:42 PM |
And now can be the turning point, if Delpo is able to win his first two serves i think he'll fight till the end but if Rafa starts breaking one of them (and Delpo had some trouble with his serves lately) it'll be an easy five set for him. Anyway, Djokovic will be the favourite in the semi

The thing is, with Federer gone, I hope that whoever comes out of the bottom half takes it since Anderson, Raonic and Isner represent everything I dislike about a particular brand of tennis. All three are examples of the "big serve + marginal skills" style of tennis.

Isner and Anderson will probably play a long match but with few taxing points. While Nadal/Djokovic will be a grind out battle of the fittest.

Melania will flash her beef curtains from the Royal Box in order to inspire Isner.
by Anonymous | reply 500 | July 11, 2018 8:01 PM |
The semis will be on Friday if he wins, when Trump is in town, and Isner was asked whether he would like the tennis fan to come and watch him -- a rhetorical question given the president's schedule.
"Certainly. I'd love to have Trump come watch me. That would be awesome. Maybe I'll tweet at him if I win on Wednesday. I know a lot of people won't like that, but I don't care," he said.
by Anonymous | reply 501 | July 11, 2018 8:06 PM |

I nominate Gunther Parche to welcome Trump to the AELTCC.
by Anonymous | reply 505 | July 11, 2018 8:17 PM |
Isner seemed a nice guy, or at least i thought he was nice. I know he defended Tennys Sandgren but i didn't knew that he was a deplorable. Anyway, most american tennis player are heavily republican.
If someone tell me one of the big three was going to lose i wouldn't bet on Federer. It's a tough loss, because Roger knows his days are numbered and the tennir order can change from a day to the other.
If Nole really believes in himself he is the favourite, but he'll be really tested against Rafa. I don't think Rafa is on the same level, the first good player (but not that good on grass) he plays and he almost lose, but Djokovic failed in Australia and Roland Garros in tight matches, of course he doesn't have the same pressure against Rafa. In my opinion if he starts winning he has big chances to win but if it's Rafa the one winning the first, the odds drop drastically for Nole.
Of course facing a big serve on a Wimbledon final will be a tough test (no matter if the winner of Nadal/Djokovic is the big fave), if the serve is on, Anderson or Isner could surprise. Of course in a big final nerves play a big role and it's difficult to be serve bot
by Anonymous | reply 506 | July 11, 2018 8:26 PM |
Tennis needs new champ That is why I hope nadal/Nole wear each other out leaving door open for Anderson/John

by Anonymous | reply 508 | July 11, 2018 8:35 PM |
My interest in tennis has been pretty low over the past year or so, so I wasn't aware of the Sandgren controversy. Having just read about it, it was an OMG moment. I guess he's the first openly alt-right athlete of any note.
by Anonymous | reply 509 | July 11, 2018 8:37 PM |
For what its worth, at least Isner defended LGBT fans who wanted the Margaret Court Arena renamed
But he is a deplorable. He chose his side

R510: That was my perception, that he was gay friendly. Of course Juan Carlos Ferrero is pretty conservative too but he is totally pro gay rights. And Kyrgios is a brat but he is pro gay too
R507: Yes, tennis needs new champs, but Isner or Anderson are not the solution. Tennis need new faces, Zverev, Shapovalov, Tsitsipas or Thiem. Anyway i think new players need to start to think what's the image they want to give. Zverev can be charming, but he can be cocky too and his behaviour on court can be highly improved and Shapovalov on court reminds me a lot of Hewitt and that's never a good idea. Tennis need new faces, someone with charisma, someone smart, but most than anything tennis need those new faces to dethrone the legends. If Nadal, Federer and Djokovic retire before the new players defeat them and show some dominance it would be very bad for the game
by Anonymous | reply 512 | July 11, 2018 9:06 PM |
Thiem hasn't been a new face for several years. He's almost 25 and is already quite tiresome with his PDA.

So does anyone think Rafa stands a chance against the revitalized Nole?
by Anonymous | reply 514 | July 11, 2018 9:26 PM |
Of course Nadal stands a chance. I still don't think Nadal played that great today. Delpo blew a lot of chances, and Nadal played some tight points. I give the edge to Djokovic, but you can never, ever count out Nadal.
by Anonymous | reply 515 | July 11, 2018 9:31 PM |
I don't think Djokovic played all that well today either. He was just fortunate that Nishikori was also off. So I think the Nadal v. Djokovic match could easily go either way, although I might give a slight edge to Nole.

In order of preference: Anderson, Nadal, grease fire.

[quote]The only one I can somewhat get excited about is Sloane Stephens
But she's one of the most inconsistent players? It's like she either loses in the 1st round or wins the whole thing
by Anonymous | reply 539 | July 12, 2018 2:10 AM |
If Nadal gets his 18th? Fed's 20 ain't safe.
by Anonymous | reply 540 | July 12, 2018 2:26 AM |
for me it's begrudgingly Anderson 1st, then disdainfully Djokovic, then Nadal but only because I don't want to think of that deplorable scum servebot as a slam champ. None of my favorite male players are left.
I love Sloane Stephens when she's in good form and her mind is right. If she can get more consistent she could save the future of women's tennis. Hopefully she'll be back to playing well during the USO series as she has lots of points to defend.
by Anonymous | reply 541 | July 12, 2018 2:26 AM |
Sloane may be inconsistent but she's far more exciting to watch than those pushers Halep and Wozniacki, plus she seems like a genuinely nice girl.

If not Roger, then who?
by Anonymous | reply 543 | July 12, 2018 2:38 AM |
Rafa!! He was great today.
I'm glad Federer lost. I'm sorry I didn't get to hear those ass-kissing commenters about it, what did they say?
I hope Serena wins, too.

A little piece of me died with Delpo's anguishing loss today.

oh, Mary (Pierce)
by Anonymous | reply 546 | July 12, 2018 2:41 AM |
R544 Federer’s fans were insufferable today. There was one woman that made this high pitched sound every time he scored a point. It was ridiculous. That being said I was glued to my TV for both the Federer and Rafa matches. What a great day for tennis. Two amazing matches.
I’m pulling for Rafa and I think Serena pretty much has it in the bag.
by Anonymous | reply 547 | July 12, 2018 2:45 AM |
To be honest, I was secretly hoping for Kei to do something surprising. He needs to bounce Chang.

I was hoping for Nishikori to get through as well, R548. Alas.

Both fantastic finishes for Me!

The Sousa/Mayer - Verdasco/Marrero match has been reported by a bookmaker to anticorruption investigators for suspicious betting and potential match fixing.
by Anonymous | reply 553 | July 12, 2018 10:10 AM |
So far, Kerber is playing very smart, doing just enough to let Ostapenko self-destruct with tons of unforced errors.
by Anonymous | reply 554 | July 12, 2018 12:45 PM |
Hope Kerber wins in the final no matter who she plays.
by Anonymous | reply 555 | July 12, 2018 1:20 PM |
That was a quick one!
by Anonymous | reply 556 | July 12, 2018 1:30 PM |
I'm obviously pulling for Serena but it's be hard no to be pulling for Isner also. I always want to root for the Americans. Especially over someone like Nadal
by Anonymous | reply 557 | July 12, 2018 1:43 PM |
Kerber is exactly the type of rival Serena will need to serve well or she will lose, if the match goes to long rallies Serena will lose. And Kerber defeated Serena on a previous GS final so she is not the type that will choke for sure on a GS final against Serena
by Anonymous | reply 558 | July 12, 2018 1:47 PM |
R557, what don’t you like about Nadal? (I’m not a fan either.)
by Anonymous | reply 559 | July 12, 2018 1:48 PM |
I don't dislike Nadal R559. I actually think he's awesome for being so involved with the youth in Spain.
I just like when it's not the same people winning every tournament. I won't push for Serena nearly so much after she beats Margaret Court's record
by Anonymous | reply 560 | July 12, 2018 1:50 PM |
Nadal is one of the few spanish players that pays tributes in Spain, there are a lot of players ready to tell how proud they are of their country and fly their flag and all that crap but when it's about to pay tributes they are on Switzerland or Monaco.
I get a little tired of Nadal and i know i'm unfair because he is not guilty, but the constant praising when the matches are on tv is really off putting for me. Some commentators bordering being disrespectful on his rivals
by Anonymous | reply 561 | July 12, 2018 1:57 PM |
Obviously R561 has never watched a Federer match
by Anonymous | reply 562 | July 12, 2018 2:01 PM |
R562: Oh yes, but i'm spanish and i watch them on spanish tv, and even they salivate with Roger it's not the same level of passion they have for Nadal here.
The problem is more than overpraising, because most commentator are pretty useless and they seem to not know basical things about tennis (and tennis is not artistic gymnastics, you don't need to be a great expert to give good comments). There are one commentator that was utterly disrespectful to Stan Wawrinka in last years Roland Garros final. Of course the guy is an horrendous journalist (his comments on moto gp are awful too). The problem is they comment like it was soccer, and tennis is a totally different thing, respect for rivals is important. And i fear for the spanish players that come after Nadal, because nothing will be enough

by Anonymous | reply 565 | July 12, 2018 2:30 PM |
I don't think Isner is personally racist. But he doesn't seem to think racism is a problem at all
by Anonymous | reply 566 | July 12, 2018 2:31 PM |
Julia is playing at a high level. I’m impressed.
by Anonymous | reply 567 | July 12, 2018 2:32 PM |
Aren't feminists offended that women only get to play 3 sets in GS? Shouldn't they fight for the chance to play 5 sets so they won't be treated differently than men?
by Anonymous | reply 568 | July 12, 2018 2:35 PM |
fairness from a feminist ? bitch please
by Anonymous | reply 569 | July 12, 2018 2:37 PM |
The final of the YEC for women in the late 80s/early 90s used to be best of 5. I still remember Sabatini winning a 5 setter in the final, I forgot against whom, inclined to say Graf or Navratilova but don't take my word for it.
by Anonymous | reply 570 | July 12, 2018 2:55 PM |
I’d like to see that again, R570.
by Anonymous | reply 571 | July 12, 2018 2:56 PM |

Seles defeated Gabi in 1990 best of 5
Steffi defeated Anke Huber in 1995
Again Steffi defeated hingis in 1996
It was abolished in 1999

I’m not a Serena fan. I think she’s unsportsmanlike but acknowledge she’s likely the greatest female player ever. However I do hope she gets closer to surpassing that cunt Margaret Court’s major record.

by Anonymous | reply 587 | July 12, 2018 3:26 PM |
Kerber wont make as many errors and be more frustrating for Serena to play. I still think Serena will win, unfortunately, but it should be her toughest match of the tournament.
by Anonymous | reply 588 | July 12, 2018 3:28 PM |
It could be destiny since all the seeds parted the way so she could get to the final.
by Anonymous | reply 589 | July 12, 2018 3:31 PM |
yes she may be the greatest ever but I still think she juiced. She has turned away the testers over and over again.
by Anonymous | reply 590 | July 12, 2018 3:45 PM |
she was tested 5xs this year.
by Anonymous | reply 591 | July 12, 2018 3:52 PM |
so? if she's clean, why turn them away? And she has a lot of blood clots. very fishy...as you know, blood clots is a side effect of you know what...
by Anonymous | reply 592 | July 12, 2018 3:58 PM |
R590 is a troll, she is tested more than any other player.

Anderson #6/#7 with SF, #5 with with F, #4 with W
Isner #9 with SF, #8 with F, #5 with W
Djokovic #13 with SF, #11 with F, #10 with W
1. Nadal 2. Federer 3. Zverev still the top 3, Cilic down to #7 at best.
by Anonymous | reply 597 | July 12, 2018 4:19 PM |
crazy how Zverev can suck at the slams and still be #3. Yeah OK he did well at RG but still. His results outside the slams have been great though. He just can't keep his level up over a 5 set match yet.

I'm not sure what to think about PEDs in tennis. Serena has been accused of juicing, so has Nadal, Henin was plagued by those rumors and ultimately retired early. I'm inclined to think they're probably all taking something. There were many rumors that Djokovic finally started doping when he had his marvelous 2011, and that he did it knowing Nadal was doing it. But so far in tennis, at least at the upper echelons, there are only rumors.
Rumors, though, often lead to finally getting evidence. Lance Armstrong is the lead example. Marion Jones is another.
But rumors don't always lead to definitive proof. To this day, although never proven, most people think Florence Griffith Joyner was doping, and it's hard not to think that she was given her records from 1988 are still standing, and the only time they were threatened was by Marion Jones, a confessed doper. Also Griffith Joyner retired in 1989 when it was announced that random, out-of-competition drug testing would be the new norm. Her untimely death at age 38 due to an epileptic seizure, too, was labeled suspicious, but the autopsy didn't find any evidence of PED use.
Michelle Smith, the Irish swimmer who stunned everyone in 1996 by winning several golds seemingly out of nowhere, never tested positive for a banned substance. However, she was banned for 4 years for allegedly tampering with a urine sample, and her husband and trainer, a Dutch discus thrower, had been suspended from his sport due to steroid use. She remarkably improved her times after training exclusively with her juicer husband. She's probably a doper.
