I can’t wait for Serena to win it all! Her comeback will be complete.

by Anonymousreply 1July 7, 2018 2:39 PM

Okay, R1. I’m a Serena fan. No need to mock us.

by Anonymousreply 2July 7, 2018 2:42 PM

Halep wasnt going to beat Serena on grass anyway so I'm okay with this result.

by Anonymousreply 3July 7, 2018 2:47 PM

Coverboy A. Zverev is about to start his match against Gulbis

by Anonymousreply 4July 7, 2018 2:48 PM

I thought Novak was supposed to be the next coverboy to jinx him? I'm fine with Zvereva losing today too

by Anonymousreply 5July 7, 2018 2:52 PM

Has this ever happened before -- only one of the top 10 seeds making it to the second week of a Major?

by Anonymousreply 6July 7, 2018 3:02 PM

R1 Go fuck yourself. And I think we should officially call it a CUNTback. Let's get that trending on twitter, people! #cuntback

R3 It's about the evil, cheating cunt gaining ranking points on all the top players while doing nothing. For example, if the bitch wins she'll essentially be gaining 4,000 points on Muguruza because some asshole scheduled the defending champion to play the red-headed goober in the dark...while Serena gets perfect scheduling against choking losers.

by Anonymousreply 7July 7, 2018 3:03 PM

R7 jeez chill out. I dont want Serena to win either but you're intense.

by Anonymousreply 8July 7, 2018 3:07 PM

Here's to the thread cover boy jinx.

by Anonymousreply 9July 7, 2018 3:10 PM

By the US Open or the Australian, Serena should be back to her full form. This tournament is just practice. She is playing herself into shape over the last few weeks. Good to see.

by Anonymousreply 10July 7, 2018 3:12 PM

Can't stand Serena's coach. Hes commentating on ESPN. Such a smarmy asshole!

by Anonymousreply 11July 7, 2018 3:14 PM

Is it true that he pays Serena to be her coach?

by Anonymousreply 12July 7, 2018 3:17 PM

R6 I would guess a big fat NO on that one. It's only happening because it's the only way the demon cunt can win the tournament.

R7 Can you tell I don't like her? Ha! She's basically the Donald Trump of the WTA, so that may help you understand why I have so much disdain for her.

by Anonymousreply 13July 7, 2018 3:21 PM

Frances Taifoe gives me life!

by Anonymousreply 14July 7, 2018 3:26 PM

Yes, R12

by Anonymousreply 15July 7, 2018 3:29 PM

Fed is a very classy player - as long as things go his way. When he's pressed, his true colors come out. And he can barely contain his disdain for Novak, some of which is no doubt due to his native Swiss snobbery.

by Anonymousreply 16July 7, 2018 3:30 PM

R10 If I hear someone else say Serena is "playing her way into shape" I'm gonna scream. Bitch has been playing her way into shape for the last 15 years!! Why does no one understand that she doesn't need to be in shape. Her game is entirely about her serve. If she's serving fine, she'll win 90% of the time no matter what shape she is in. Especially on a tour full of chokers who regularly double fault themselves into trouble.

by Anonymousreply 17July 7, 2018 3:30 PM

So, in ladies' singles, the ONLY Top-10 seeded player to reach 4th round is... Karolina Pliskova who, prior to this year, had never been past 2nd round at Wimbledon.

by Anonymousreply 18July 7, 2018 3:30 PM

No, R12

by Anonymousreply 19July 7, 2018 3:30 PM

MARY, MARY, MARY at R7

R7 = Irina Spirela

by Anonymousreply 20July 7, 2018 3:31 PM

Sadly, Irina would probably have a better chance of beating Serena than any of the dumbasses left in this tournament. The WTA has been pathetic for years.

by Anonymousreply 21July 7, 2018 3:35 PM

Good to see that Sasha has officially replaced Domi as DL favorite. His trolling and gay baiting seems to have worked. Anyway I wonder what will happen if he will start parading some chick as his GF in next few months? How will DL react

by Anonymousreply 22July 7, 2018 3:37 PM

Fucking Sasha!!! . Can't even beat a little brat like Earnest easily

by Anonymousreply 23July 7, 2018 3:39 PM

Boobs out!

by Anonymousreply 24July 7, 2018 3:44 PM

Osaka has gotten herself in much better shape, but court movement is still an issue for her.

by Anonymousreply 25July 7, 2018 3:45 PM

A. Zverev has not replaced Domicakes as my favorite. The final discussion on the last thread was centered on him so I made A. Zverev the poster boy for this thread. I’m not a fan of his lanky looks personally.

by Anonymousreply 26July 7, 2018 3:47 PM

Did the Puig! troll get stuck in that cave in Thailand? Totally disappeared.

by Anonymousreply 27July 7, 2018 3:50 PM

Kerber looked very solid against Osaka. She might be able to challenge Serena.

by Anonymousreply 28July 7, 2018 3:51 PM

No fan of the younger Zverev here, either, far from it. He needs to take charm lessons from his older brother.

by Anonymousreply 29July 7, 2018 3:52 PM

[quote]Boobs out!

okay

by Anonymousreply 30July 7, 2018 3:52 PM

Misha is very submissive . Sasha is dominant one

by Anonymousreply 31July 7, 2018 3:53 PM

If Serena gets to the final I hope she plays either Kerber or Ostapenko.

by Anonymousreply 32July 7, 2018 3:57 PM

R28 I think Giorgi is our only hope, so she'll lose to whiny Makarova of course.

by Anonymousreply 33July 7, 2018 3:57 PM

R27 plz don’t remind us

by Anonymousreply 34July 7, 2018 4:02 PM

R32, Ostapenko has a lot of moxie and won't be easily intimidated, but I think Serena will be able to exploit Jelena's weak serve and limited movement. The two women have never met, though, so at least it would be interesting to see how that match-up plays out.

by Anonymousreply 35July 7, 2018 4:03 PM

fucking BBC website is not working because "their lads "managed to reach semis in that useless game called Soccer. Now how I will able to watch tennis of outside courts ?

by Anonymousreply 36July 7, 2018 4:04 PM

To R601 from the last thread, people don't emulate Navratilova or Graf because they are superior athletes. Evert's game is more adaptable to those who aren't as athletic. Not that these women aren't athletes, but Navratilova or Graf probably could have played any sport they wanted and excelled. They are just naturally gifted. Someone like a Seles was not a gifted athlete, but she was an incredible shot maker who was tough as nails pre-stabbing. Now we have a lot of bashers who aren't as athletic, like Pliskbot, Osaka, and Keys. I think Sloane Stevens is actually a really good athlete, but she doesn't seem to take advantage of it.

Navratilova and Graf were athletic enough to play serve-and-volley (Martina) and an all-court game (Graf and Navratilova could, too). Graf got away with that slice backhand because she was so naturally fast, she could run around it and hit winners off her forehand. Martina was much the same way. Serve-and-volley requires a natural athlete. Martina was one of the best ever at it.

by Anonymousreply 37July 7, 2018 4:07 PM

R35 They met at an exho last December, Ostapenko won 6-2, 3-6, 10-5 (not that this means much).

by Anonymousreply 38July 7, 2018 4:09 PM

Hell no to Ostapenko in the final. We need someone that can defend like crazy and make Serena hit a million balls.

by Anonymousreply 39July 7, 2018 4:20 PM

In her prime, Seles had exceptional hand/eye coordination as well as footwork.

by Anonymousreply 40July 7, 2018 4:24 PM

R35, does Ostapenko have a lot of spunk too?

by Anonymousreply 41July 7, 2018 4:33 PM

Not necessarily, R31.

by Anonymousreply 42July 7, 2018 4:35 PM

"What he says doesn't matter, he's a linesman!!!!" - Sasha Zverev

by Anonymousreply 43July 7, 2018 4:56 PM

"Since when can a linesman give me a warning? He just wants to be important so someone can remember his face!" - Sasha Zverev

by Anonymousreply 44July 7, 2018 4:59 PM

R43 & R44 Yeah. He was a little cunty about that. That was the break-down tension talking. He's back on track now.

R41 Yes, all over her face. Whore!

by Anonymousreply 45July 7, 2018 5:06 PM

Yeah, R45, back on track toward more cuntiness.

by Anonymousreply 46July 7, 2018 5:08 PM

Zvever is back on track in being the usual arrogant idiot he is

by Anonymousreply 47July 7, 2018 5:09 PM

And they say the WTA is full of mean, nasty, cunty women.

by Anonymousreply 48July 7, 2018 5:10 PM

If you’re looking for the Donald Trump of the WTA, it’s definitely Coco V.

by Anonymousreply 49July 7, 2018 5:22 PM

Is hot but extremely boring Kyle Edmund gonna win?

by Anonymousreply 50July 7, 2018 5:30 PM

hot?

by Anonymousreply 51July 7, 2018 5:43 PM

Frances Tiafoe collapse is almost complete . What a let down from 2 set to 0 and a break point in third set for a 4/3 lead . Never recovered from that game

by Anonymousreply 52July 7, 2018 5:44 PM

I don't think Zverev will survive the fifth set, fortunately for him Gulbis is as talented as he is a head case so anything could happen

by Anonymousreply 53July 7, 2018 5:44 PM

And Tiafoe really tanked in the last two sets

by Anonymousreply 54July 7, 2018 5:45 PM

Tiafoe is injured.

by Anonymousreply 55July 7, 2018 5:45 PM

Is sasha is gonna have another early grand-slam exit?

by Anonymousreply 56July 7, 2018 5:45 PM

R53, which Zverev?

by Anonymousreply 57July 7, 2018 5:47 PM

poor kyle is fading fast

by Anonymousreply 58July 7, 2018 5:49 PM

ESL, you never fail to kick players when they're down.

by Anonymousreply 59July 7, 2018 5:49 PM

Tiafoe collapse is now complete . Karen will play winner of Nole/Kyle match

by Anonymousreply 60July 7, 2018 5:50 PM

R57: Oh, come on. The only one who is playing

by Anonymousreply 61July 7, 2018 5:50 PM

Carpenter, ESL?

by Anonymousreply 62July 7, 2018 5:51 PM

ESL doesn't have DL Fave Misery to kick around so he needs to target others like Casper the ghost (Edmund).

by Anonymousreply 63July 7, 2018 5:51 PM

And Zverev face two break points in his first serve. I'm starting to think that he is really a loser that is unable to deal with the pressure of a GS

by Anonymousreply 64July 7, 2018 5:53 PM

Gulbis thrice lucky in that last game to break. Boo!

by Anonymousreply 65July 7, 2018 5:56 PM

Targeting Kyle?? I love Kyle .Unlike other DLers I find him beautiful and his play very exciting . I wish he would win and take out a big four . Its not my fault that Nole is playing a very sold game and Kyle has lost two straight serve. To beat today 's Nole ,Kyle has to be at his 100 percent but he is not

by Anonymousreply 66July 7, 2018 5:56 PM

R51 yes Kyle is hot

by Anonymousreply 67July 7, 2018 5:57 PM

Byebye Zverev

by Anonymousreply 68July 7, 2018 5:59 PM

Sasha collapse is almost complete

by Anonymousreply 69July 7, 2018 5:59 PM

I'm always worried that Kyle will burst in to flames if he stays in the sunny part of the court for too long.

by Anonymousreply 70July 7, 2018 6:00 PM

R69, will he ever be chancellor?

by Anonymousreply 71July 7, 2018 6:01 PM

Tonight Sasha can stay up late and watch and like all the semi nude Russian and Latvian underwear model on instgram while Melo bang him from behind

by Anonymousreply 72July 7, 2018 6:03 PM

ESL, do you have Vaseline and hand inside shorts right about now?

by Anonymousreply 73July 7, 2018 6:04 PM

5:0! Not watching the match, what is Sascha doing? Did he give up again in the 5th, like against Chung?

by Anonymousreply 74July 7, 2018 6:08 PM

OP, thanks for the jinx!!

by Anonymousreply 75July 7, 2018 6:09 PM

Sascha is a pathetic loser. Wimbledon was not the best GS for him to break up but this kind of choking is a very bad sign for the future. I complain a lot about Federer and Nadal's dominance but there's a reason why they are able to dominate even when their peaks are long gone

by Anonymousreply 76July 7, 2018 6:09 PM

[quote]ESL, do you have Vaseline and hand inside shorts right about now?

That is so 2017 when I use to do that while watching Domi.

These days I write Saha /Melo fan fiction in my trademark bad English while stuffing my mouth with burgers chips and other junk food like those fat fraus who writes Wincest brothers fan fiction

by Anonymousreply 77July 7, 2018 6:09 PM

Wow, the coverboy jinx is real.

Now hurry and fill this thread up with Puig! Posts and put Nole on the cover of the next thread

by Anonymousreply 78July 7, 2018 6:12 PM

This is the second time this year that Sasha has been bageled in the fifth set in a slam in the third round by an unseeded player.

by Anonymousreply 79July 7, 2018 6:13 PM

R77 is not ESL.

by Anonymousreply 80July 7, 2018 6:15 PM

That's clear, R80. R77 has a sense of humor.

by Anonymousreply 81July 7, 2018 6:17 PM

A. Zverev

by Anonymousreply 82July 7, 2018 6:20 PM

If Kyrgios ends up playing Gulbis in the round of 16, we've got our douchebro match of the tournament.

by Anonymousreply 83July 7, 2018 6:22 PM

Definitely Sasha Zverev needed to break out of that early loss syndrome at Slams this year. He got to the Quarters of the French, but he had plenty of 5 setters along the way that should have been 3 or 4 setters. I used to be high on A. Zverev. Now, not so much.

Any chance for Vesely against Nadal? I've never seen him play.

by Anonymousreply 84July 7, 2018 6:22 PM

Djokovic has been such an asshole with the crowd today. I can see why the British don’t care for him

by Anonymousreply 85July 7, 2018 6:23 PM

LOL I don't have sense of humor but I am R77

by Anonymousreply 86July 7, 2018 6:28 PM

If you want to jinx someone bet high and put Nadal or Federer. If i were Zverev i would hire some psicological help, it's becoming quite obvious that something happens that don't let him develop his potential at GS. Grass is not his best surface and lose against Gulbis (who defeated top players at GS before) won't be news, but he keeps doing the same thing GS after GS. If he is a top player able to defeat everyone on the circuit and winning masters 1000 he should be making qtr on GS at least. Tennis are not math and being number 3 in the world doesn't translate into semis (not even being number one just ask Marcelo Ríos) but he has to overcome this burden as soon as possible. In tennis a match can make a difference, and he is losing those 5 set matches on GS. And even before losing he is having long matches too early in the competition to be at the top of his game in the last rounds anyway

by Anonymousreply 87July 7, 2018 6:29 PM

Now that Sascha is gone i'm going to send my positive vibes to Kyrgios to make him realize he is really that good to get a surprise win here (well, now poor Nick is done for sure)

by Anonymousreply 88July 7, 2018 6:31 PM

Kyrgios...talk about someone who should die in a grease fire!

by Anonymousreply 89July 7, 2018 6:33 PM

R89: Come on, he is the bad boy of the atp and everybody likes a bad boy redeemed himself with an epic victory (urgg, i think i watched too many Disney movies)

by Anonymousreply 90July 7, 2018 6:39 PM

Problem with A Zverev is that he never has any plan B. A top player should have a plan B. His game is too one dimensional . If a player start playing too inspiring tennis [e.g Coric in US open, Chung in Aussie open and Karen,Damir in French open and Taylor/Ernest in Wimbledon] then he becomes clueless and just wait for their collapse but unfortunately it didn't happen always /

Also note his three master victories

Rogers cup[Roger was injured in final. Sasha din't played exceptional tennis through out tournament ]

Italian open[Only top player he defeated was Nole who was very bad that day. You can rewatch that game on youtube . Sasha didn't played well. He just played ok]

Madrid masters[Only good player he played was Domi who was physically and mentally depleted after defeating Rafa and Anderson]

So even his masters wins also have big *on them

by Anonymousreply 91July 7, 2018 6:42 PM

R89 No, that's Serena

by Anonymousreply 92July 7, 2018 6:49 PM

Sorry, but it doesn't matter if their rivals weren't at their best, he won because he was in the final and was better that day. That's all that matters. Agassi was terrible during two sets in his final against Medvedev in Roland Garros, he was on the verge of tears, and suddenly Medveded decided to choke big time. That doesn't mean Agassi didn't deserve to win, he was in the final and if his rival decided to tank is not his business. Even without his masters 1000 victories, Sascha is a regular player on the circuit, he is generally in the last rounds, so he should be doing better on GS. And of course he needs to improve his game (he could learn a thing or two of his brother about how to play on the net) but he is showing some mental burden losing those tight matches on early rounds. He generally don't completely collapse like Coric did this Wimbledon (when he was on top form and seemed ready to step up in his career) but the result is a loss anyway

by Anonymousreply 93July 7, 2018 6:49 PM

Come on Kyle . Do it for your queeeen

by Anonymousreply 94July 7, 2018 6:50 PM

I'd like to see Edmund win but my word, these line/umpire calls have been shockingly bad.

by Anonymousreply 95July 7, 2018 6:52 PM

I knew i should shut up about my positive vibes. Poor Nick lost 61 the first set and he is a break down in the second

Edmund is another player that seems on the verge of step up in his career, and no place better to do it than Wimbledon

by Anonymousreply 96July 7, 2018 6:52 PM

What is going on with Kyrgios?

by Anonymousreply 97July 7, 2018 7:12 PM

Well, he came back. Now that we are in the decisive part of the second set we'll see if the come back is for good. It's incredible how bad Wimbledon makes its schedule. There are a lot of odds that they won't end this match today, and given they have the fucking tradition of not playing on Sunday, they'll have to wait till monday. I read somewhere that Federer was against using white clothes on Wimbledon, but i think that's a nice tradition (you have the other three GS and the rest of the year to wear whatever you want)

by Anonymousreply 98July 7, 2018 7:17 PM

[quote] Problem with A Zverev is that he never has any plan B.

B. Zverev?

by Anonymousreply 99July 7, 2018 7:23 PM

Kyrgios is the all time thug of all thugs. Glad he's down two sets. Hope he blows his ACL in the third set.

by Anonymousreply 100July 7, 2018 7:33 PM

Murray/Azarenka just won their last 3 games at love to take their mixed doubles match. Go Vika! She needs matches wherever she can get them right now.

by Anonymousreply 101July 7, 2018 7:33 PM

Sascha managed to win 6 points in the decider.

by Anonymousreply 102July 7, 2018 7:34 PM

R100 Again, that's Serena. Why do I have to keep doing this? Ditto on that ACL injury for her too.

by Anonymousreply 103July 7, 2018 7:35 PM

Loving the craziness of the women's draw. Hoping Bencic somehow wins the whole thing.

by Anonymousreply 104July 7, 2018 7:37 PM

R101, which Murray?

by Anonymousreply 105July 7, 2018 7:40 PM

bill, r105

by Anonymousreply 106July 7, 2018 7:43 PM

Favorite point of the tournament so far: In the second set tiebreaker, Kyrgios takes a massive fuck-you-all forehand swing and the ball somehow lands in, only for it to be blocked back by Nishikori for a clean winner. Kyrgios is such as ass and I love when he gets burned like that.

by Anonymousreply 107July 7, 2018 7:46 PM

Sascha has been sick and seems to have run out of energy at the end. His reaction about the linesman was bad but I think as has been the case before he gets really angry when he is accused of lying basically. Not an excuse but some context.

He and Marcelo need to go on holiday now and be generous with photos.

As for Nole, with a crowd worse than a Davis Cup crowd, cheering a time violation for him, his reaction is understandable. Then the umpire robbed him of an important point... I am really glad he won.

by Anonymousreply 108July 7, 2018 8:01 PM

Thank goodness. Kyrgios can crawl back under his rock.

by Anonymousreply 109July 7, 2018 8:05 PM

Watch Kyrgios blame Bartoli.

by Anonymousreply 110July 7, 2018 8:09 PM

R105 Jamie

R106 Ha ha

by Anonymousreply 111July 7, 2018 8:12 PM

Ton.

by Anonymousreply 112July 7, 2018 8:13 PM

Thanks, R111.

by Anonymousreply 113July 7, 2018 8:13 PM

Fed only loses when he's injured.

by Anonymousreply 114July 7, 2018 8:23 PM

So Fed's been injured over 50 times?

by Anonymousreply 115July 7, 2018 8:28 PM

Nole was asked about his favourite US Open moment during his press conference and picked the "lucky" shot that helped him win the semifinal against Federer in 2011. A small refresher as to what was said after that match.

Weem-ble-don

by Anonymousreply 118July 7, 2018 10:08 PM

R116 I never understood what the big deal was about that shot. Federer's serve was nothing special and Nole's shot was well inside the sideline – he hits returns like that all the time. I would've considered it lucky if he had caught 1mm of the line or had framed the ball onto the line (a la Serena), but that was simply a well struck return.

And "tetchy" (from the article)? Is that a combination of testy and touchy? I've never seen that word before.

by Anonymousreply 119July 7, 2018 10:22 PM

Nole!

by Anonymousreply 120July 7, 2018 10:28 PM

Nole.

by Anonymousreply 121July 7, 2018 10:29 PM

R119: Tetchy--peevish, irritable. A word of unknown origin.

by Anonymousreply 122July 7, 2018 10:32 PM

No play tomorrow.

by Anonymousreply 123July 7, 2018 10:33 PM

I am seeing speculation that Halep and Delpo are dating...anything to that? Would be cute honestly.

by Anonymousreply 124July 7, 2018 10:44 PM

R119, I think maybe Federer's comments made more of it than would have otherwise been the case, but I could be wrong.

by Anonymousreply 125July 7, 2018 10:47 PM

R124 If true, Simona should have had him step on Hsieh Su-wei before the match today. Whoops!

Even though I had a feeling she was going to blow that match, I still can't believe she did. This year's tournament is a complete disaster...and it hasn't even rained yet!

by Anonymousreply 126July 7, 2018 10:51 PM

LOL at that article, r116. As someone earlier summarized it, yeah Federer is a classy player as long as he's winning.

by Anonymousreply 127July 7, 2018 10:56 PM

R122 I got the meaning from the context, but thanks! Mr. Kevin Mitchell must've had his thesaurus ready that day. You go, Kevin Mitchell!

by Anonymousreply 128July 7, 2018 10:56 PM

Anyone watch that “Strokes of Genius” documentary on Roger and Rafa? It spends a good deal of time covering young Roger’s bad behavior and tantrums when he lost. His parents had to tell him that he embarrassed them.

Clearly, Rog has gotten control of that side of him but it escapes a bit every blue moon.

by Anonymousreply 129July 7, 2018 11:10 PM

Perhaps Djokovic's parents haven't told him yet how much his behavior embarrasses them.

by Anonymousreply 130July 7, 2018 11:18 PM

I far prefer tantrums (as long as they are not violent towards people...rackets are fine) over being dismissive of opponents or ungracious in victory and defeat.

by Anonymousreply 131July 7, 2018 11:37 PM

We have plenty in the ATP and WTA who manage to accomplish all three of your categories, R131.

by Anonymousreply 132July 7, 2018 11:52 PM

Help! and Delpo? She watched the Delpo-Nadal match at RG but it’s not like she was sitting in Delpo’s box.

People are saying they keep popping up in the same place, R133, and today they were at a cafe or restaurant together but they could just be friends obviously, that is why I was asking if there was more to it.

by Anonymousreply 135July 8, 2018 1:45 AM

Djokovic looks seriously deranged. Some players mellow with age. His temperament's grown increasingly worse. Ten years ago I was a fan. Now quite the opposite.

for the next thread please make Federer, Nadal and Djokovic joint coverboys. I'm so sick of them. Nadal and Federer really couldn't have asked for better first week Wimbledon draws.

Vesely is a big hitter but he's wildly inconsistent. He will punish any weak Nadal serves though

but please people,, stop wishing injury and death on the players. That's really insane .

by Anonymousreply 137July 8, 2018 3:02 AM

Lol, cunt Kyrgios crashes out again, no surprise. And Bartoli was 100% right.

by Anonymousreply 138July 8, 2018 3:26 AM

Boobs out (except to the Brits).

by Anonymousreply 139July 8, 2018 3:26 AM

Djokovic has always been a big box of crazy ever since he came on the tour. I don't think he's gotten worse. He usually tries so hard to be good, but he's always fighting the knowledge that he's a villain.

by Anonymousreply 140July 8, 2018 3:40 AM

^^^^^ And I say this as a huge fan of his.

by Anonymousreply 141July 8, 2018 3:41 AM

[quote] Perhaps Djokovic's parents haven't told him yet how much his behavior embarrasses them.

They don’t seen the type to care by the looks of them.

by Anonymousreply 142July 8, 2018 3:55 AM

My loins are on fire just thinking about the 4th Round encounter between Karen Khachanov and Novak. Me and my fellow straight gals Carlo and Kate Mak are going to watch together and french kiss the pillows afterwards.

by Anonymousreply 143July 8, 2018 4:02 AM

Carlo is a gal?

by Anonymousreply 144July 8, 2018 4:05 AM

R137 We're here for pointless bitchery. Nobody REEAAALLY wants Serena to be hit by one of those London double-decker buses...twice (insert maniacal laugh).

See. Fun.

by Anonymousreply 145July 8, 2018 4:13 AM

Kyle was definitely breaking the white underwear rule and thinnest pants ever. Yum!

Novak's parents are somehow worse than he is. Shouldn't be possible but they manage.

That being said... That was a really bad call against him.

by Anonymousreply 146July 8, 2018 4:43 AM

Hadn't been on these threads for a while. But Sascha at OP brought me back. Gorgeous

Gulbis is hot. Reminds me of Jamie Dornan.

R148: It's a pity that he is a douchebag.

Federer and Rafa are classy and polite, well at least when they won, when they lose not so much, but they worked hard for the clean image and unless they stab their opponent with a bunch of witness the image will stay no matter what they do (and Nadal's words about women's payment is a testament of that, Nole said the same and it was a bloodbath, but with Rafa nothing happened). Anyway i think we'll se a lot of Nadal tantrums once they really enforce the time rule. He is losing his cool more and more lately with that.

To be honest i don't be surprised if Rafa reach the final but right now he has nothing to do against Federer, at least not on grass

by Anonymousreply 149July 8, 2018 9:46 AM

[R130], the parents are worse.

by Anonymousreply 150July 8, 2018 10:22 AM

I'd love for Saint Roger to be booed at least once just to see how unglued he'd become.

by Anonymousreply 151July 8, 2018 5:12 PM

Nole

by Anonymousreply 152July 8, 2018 8:15 PM

R151: I doubt that'll happen. He is beloved at Wimbledon (as he was at Roland Garros), he generally don't lose his temper that much to make the crowd boo him. Now he is a veteran, he is in his last years and he is playing very well, people will root for him for sure,

by Anonymousreply 153July 8, 2018 8:33 PM

R135 DelPo typically dates famethirsty instagram hoes. Simona doesn’t seem his type.

by Anonymousreply 154July 8, 2018 9:50 PM

I can't wait for the USO when the 25 second timer will be on full display for the players, umpires and fans to see. Nadal will not be able to get away with slowing down play and he'll go ballistic. It will be hilarious.

by Anonymousreply 155July 8, 2018 10:16 PM

[quote] It will be hilarious.

LeL.

by Anonymousreply 156July 8, 2018 10:17 PM

Between Rafa with his creepy OCD tics and Novak and his incessant ball bouncing, there are going to be a lot of crying divas.

by Anonymousreply 157July 8, 2018 10:30 PM

I have a love/hate relationship with the second monday of Wimbledon. I love that there are so many matches all on at the same time but it's also frustrating because obviously you can't follow them all at once. I have to say I'm interested in most of the round 16 matches this year

by Anonymousreply 158July 8, 2018 11:35 PM

R157, Nadal will just threaten to get all of the umpires fired and Djokovic will rant and scream at the ball boys and the crowd, contorting his face into even more Cryptkeeper impersonations.

ESPN 1 is showing only Centre Court so the boring Fed (though I love bitchy Mannarino) and Serena matches will be short and sweet. ESPN 2 shows everything else.

by Anonymousreply 161July 9, 2018 2:34 AM

What’s bitchy about Mannarino?

I can't watch a Federer match at all anymore. The fucking insane gushing from all the commentators is nauseating. I can't even stand Johnny Mac and Chris Fowler anymore both who I used to like. Never mind the half wit Fernandez married to his agent and the insufferable Chris McEndrick or whatever her name is that knows nothing about tennis and tries to talk the lingo. She's hard to listen to.

I thought Fed yelling shut up was actually to Djokovic’s parents at one of the year end championship matches.

by Anonymousreply 167July 9, 2018 4:01 AM

Crankerer doesn't normally come out until the final, like at Indian Wells.

by Anonymousreply 173July 9, 2018 5:02 AM

R49 I WASN'T talking about who was the biggest MAGAt Republicunt.

I was referring to Trump and Serena's: 1. Extreme narcissism 2. Their inability to admit to or apologize for any wrongdoing (unless forced to – and then the apology is insincere) 3. Their blindly loyal fans who often defend their boorish behavior 4. The fact that they both project their own bad behavior onto their opponents and attack those who try to hold them accountable for said behavior 5. The fact that both have achieved things they never would have because of significant financial advantage and outside influence 6. And they will both lie and cheat to win

There are probably more parallels, but you get the idea.

by Anonymousreply 174July 9, 2018 5:18 AM

[quote]5. The fact that both have achieved things they never would have because of significant financial advantage and outside influence

I don't really buy any of your points, but that one is a Trump-caliber lie.

I think your issues with Serena are really just your "issues."

by Anonymousreply 175July 9, 2018 7:39 AM

Ok. Monday and let's play some tennis. Let's hope for great tennis and some major upsets.

by Anonymousreply 176July 9, 2018 10:44 AM

R164; You should try spanish commentators in Nadal's matches. Sometimes you feel the need to cheer for his rival only because you want them to shut up.

And i'm talking abou the decent ones. One of the commentators on last year's RG final was blatantly disrespectful to Stan Wawrinka, he was more like a hooligan. Even Nadal's fans blasted him on twitter

by Anonymousreply 177July 9, 2018 11:44 AM

If you are going to play Federer or Nadal you should start the much focused enough to hold your serve and don't give them advantage too soon.

Bertens is doing her best not to choke but even she is not playing a mentally strong player i think she will choke anyway

by Anonymousreply 178July 9, 2018 12:16 PM

Good for Bertens. She played a solid tiebreaker to close out Pliskova.

by Anonymousreply 179July 9, 2018 12:23 PM

Fed 6-0 in 16 minutes.

by Anonymousreply 180July 9, 2018 12:27 PM

by Anonymousreply 182July 9, 2018 12:29 PM

by Anonymousreply 187July 9, 2018 12:54 PM

no, r185, Kerber is seeded 11th. She's still in it. It could change but she's up a set and a break over Bencic.

by Anonymousreply 188July 9, 2018 1:11 PM

AVU won the first set.

Federer is not going to have problems with Mannarino

by Anonymousreply 189July 9, 2018 1:17 PM

Go Alison! And Kerber and Bencic are back on serve in the 2nd.

by Anonymousreply 190July 9, 2018 1:18 PM

I am loving AVU's game. She served and volleyed three times in the first-set tiebreaker and won each of those points. I also like when she really hits through her forehand. The racket-head speed she generates reminds me of DelPo's forehand.

by Anonymousreply 196July 9, 2018 2:24 PM

Goerges is such a talented player. It's hard to believe this will be her first Major quarterfinal.

by Anonymousreply 197July 9, 2018 2:25 PM

Sadly, Alison is out. She lost her way in the third set, suddenly making too many unforced errors.

by Anonymousreply 198July 9, 2018 2:31 PM

Very sad for Alison to be out, but we should be proud of her improvement. This is as far as she has gotten in any Grand Slam and she's only 24. We need more out women tennis players feeling the support for success.

by Anonymousreply 199July 9, 2018 3:04 PM

Can't imagine any of the girls in Serena's half being consistent enough to take her out. They have a lot of power but it takes a lot more than that.

by Anonymousreply 200July 9, 2018 3:09 PM

Camilla Giorgi: I don't follow tennis. I don't know how Serena plays.

by Anonymousreply 201July 9, 2018 3:16 PM

by Anonymousreply 203July 9, 2018 3:21 PM

Serena will probably be winning grand slams into her 50s unfortunately. Btw I'm not joking.

by Anonymousreply 204July 9, 2018 3:29 PM

Ostapenko is a bit injured. She withdrew from her doubles match. Lets hope she will be okay for tomorrow's match

by Anonymousreply 205July 9, 2018 3:49 PM

Raonic v. Isner is going to be the most compelling, exciting quarterfinal match of the tournament.... NOT!

by Anonymousreply 206July 9, 2018 3:58 PM

Fuck Isner

by Anonymousreply 207July 9, 2018 4:10 PM

Ugh, Nadal is going to straight-set Vesely. Either Delpo, Djokovic, or Nishikori are the only likely hopes left to take out Nadal before the final. But I said before the tournament that Nadal was due at Wimbledon. He's finally got a comfortable draw to let him ease his way through the first week, and he's had not real threat today from Vesely, who looks totally outclassed. Nadal could take this whole thing.

by Anonymousreply 208July 9, 2018 4:14 PM

^no real threat

by Anonymousreply 209July 9, 2018 4:15 PM

I agree, r208. Nadal is standing really close to the baseline, both for service return and for groundstrokes, so you know he's confident and is seeing the ball well.

by Anonymousreply 210July 9, 2018 4:20 PM

Really? I have not yet seen Nadal play during this Wimbledon. Doesn’t he usually stand so far behind the baseline like he’s about to vanish from the screen?

by Anonymousreply 211July 9, 2018 4:49 PM

Federer and Nadal got the easiest first 4 rounds at Wimbledon that they could have hoped for. I's really unbelievable. All the tough lower seeds and floaters were not in their sections.

by Anonymousreply 212July 9, 2018 4:50 PM

R197 Goerges has a nice forehand, first serve and can volley. Her backhand is attackable/can break down and she's not a great mover

by Anonymousreply 213July 9, 2018 4:51 PM

Anderson the certified loser

by Anonymousreply 214July 9, 2018 4:55 PM

9 female players beat Top-10 seeds at this year's Wimbledon -- by playing, supposedly, great, career-changing tennis. How many of those 9 players reached quarterfinals? ONE. Kiki Bertens.

I don't think it is depth

by Anonymousreply 215July 9, 2018 4:58 PM

Pliskbot out. She needs recalibration.

by Anonymousreply 216July 9, 2018 4:58 PM

You'd think big-serving, flat-hitting Pliskova would like playing on grass but she apparently dislikes it and it's her worst surface.

by Anonymousreply 217July 9, 2018 5:00 PM

Grass usually rewards the superior athletes. Pliskbot has a big serve, but she doesn't move well at all. Venus and Serena are great athletes, which is why they each have so many Wimbledon titles. Same for Navratilova and Graf.

by Anonymousreply 218July 9, 2018 5:05 PM

My arthritic grandmother moves better than Pliskova.

by Anonymousreply 219July 9, 2018 5:12 PM

I bet she moves better than Vesely, too, R219.

by Anonymousreply 220July 9, 2018 5:16 PM

Wendy Turnbull was a great athlete. Where is her Wimbledon singles crown?

[quote] Wendy Turnbull was a great athlete. Where is her Wimbledon singles crown?

by Anonymousreply 223July 9, 2018 5:33 PM

They should really put Djokovic-Khachanov on center court now that Nadal is done. It wouldn't be fair to make them play their whole match tomorrow when everyone else will finish by today's end

by Anonymousreply 224July 9, 2018 5:36 PM

R208: Nadal lost his last five matches against Federer. I doubt he'll be able to defeat Federer on grass. I'm really surprised by how young players seem to fear playing against the big four (unless they are clearly out of form), i can understand people like Dimitrov, Berdych, Ferrer and Gasquet not getting into the best mentality to win after years and years of losing, but youngters should be able to give them some trouble at least till Federer, Nadal and company prove them that they are better. It's a pity Tsitsipas lost, big servers are incredibly boring on grass

by Anonymousreply 225July 9, 2018 5:40 PM

Simon is a boring pusher. Hate watching his matches.

by Anonymousreply 226July 9, 2018 5:47 PM

It's the way that all the commentators continually circle jerk over Federer and Nadal. Yes they're the 2 best men's players possibly ever but endless love for them is nauseating. That's 1 thing I liked about Djokovic is that he came on tour and was not content to be in third place. He had a belief he could compete with the very best and he did it.

I wish more of the younger guys had the same attitude as the upcoming girls. These girls do want to beat the legends.

by Anonymousreply 227July 9, 2018 5:47 PM

Djokovic *the D is silent

Khachanov *the K is silent

by Anonymousreply 228July 9, 2018 6:00 PM

and they're making them stay on court 1. So they have 2 1/2 hours to get the match finished. It's certainly doable unless they go 5 sets

by Anonymousreply 229July 9, 2018 6:01 PM

R227: People don't give enough credit to Djokovic. He had to face two of the best tennis players ever and Nadal and Federer have completely opposite styles, so the way to defeat them is different. He had to overcome the mental burden of being defeated by them in the past and he was able to do all that, became the dominant player winning 12 GS and having a positive h2h against both

by Anonymousreply 230July 9, 2018 6:35 PM

Khachanov is hot, I'm sorry. Hot quads and legs, and a nice ass - and could be a Hemsworth Brother (ish)

by Anonymousreply 231July 9, 2018 6:36 PM

I agree with R227 and R230. What Djokovic did between 2011 through the first half of 2016 was remarkable. Think about how many Grand Slams Federer, and especially Nadal, would have won during that period. Nadal would probably be ahead of Federer in overall Slam count had Djokovic not risen to the top.

by Anonymousreply 232July 9, 2018 6:46 PM

I agree, R230. He really is not getting enough credit. I always feel like many feel like he just spoiled the party for those two. And he also had to overcome the public/media negativity that Federer (and Roddick about his retirements) had set in motion with his early comments about him, then later on the fact that Nadal was not quite as friendly once Djokovic started beating him. Nadal at least managed to overcome that quickly and is generally quite gracious about Djokovic now.

by Anonymousreply 233July 9, 2018 6:48 PM

Djokovic definitely made men's tennis more interesting by keeping it from being just a two man race for a few years.

by Anonymousreply 234July 9, 2018 6:52 PM

There's a pretty good case to be made that Fed, Nadal and Djoko are the three best ever- I would throw Laver in their midst. His talent was wild, every shot known including a top spin backhand which few players had in prior to modern rackets and strings. So Novak is very much in the running and I would not be at all surprised if in the coming year he emerges back on top. He could beat top form Nadal on clay.

by Anonymousreply 235July 9, 2018 6:58 PM

Simon looks like he is sporting wood out there.

by Anonymousreply 236July 9, 2018 7:01 PM

Yes, Laver should have the record of GS if he had played all those years he was a pro.

Anyway in my opinion the big three dominance has a lot to do with the ones that followed them being extremely weak mentally. I know it's very difficult to overcome three amazing players with very different styles of play, but most of them seemed defeated before even the match started.

Wawrinka who always was a very unconsistent player showed that they weren't unbeatable. Delpo (before all the injuries) showed that they weren't unbeatable. But for most players there was a burden beyond the proper game.

Of course Nadal's game is poison for young players. Unless your game fit very well into the high bouncing balls he shot, his mental strength and defensive skills are simply too much for players that no matter how talented they are tend to be unconsistent

by Anonymousreply 237July 9, 2018 7:04 PM

I wish Sampras had stayed on tour another few years. He and Federer only played that 1 time at Wimbledon and it was fun to watch. I 'm happy that Agassi stayed on until his back just couldn't take it anymore. Even though he wasn't 100% physically I'm glad he got to play Nadal once.

BTW people forget that Agassi owned Federer 3-0 until he was 33 and then Federer swept the last 8 matches.

by Anonymousreply 238July 9, 2018 7:06 PM

it's pretty clear at this point that the in-between men's generation will only have slam winners if someone else takes out the big 3 for them, the big 3 are not 100% physically, or the big 3 retire. The younger guys do have much more promise but they're not matured yet physically or mentally.

Dimitrov's ranking is going to take a real beating after he doesn't defend Cincinnati or the WTF

by Anonymousreply 239July 9, 2018 7:08 PM

Nole is going to finish before DelPo

by Anonymousreply 240July 9, 2018 7:16 PM

And even with the three out, Murray, Wawrinka and Del Potro should be out too to any of the slamless good players have really a chance (and that if they can beat a next gen player, something i'm not that sure). Of course Cilic seemed unable to win a GS and he did it (but i'm not sure if he would be able to defeat Federer in the final as he did in the semis)

by Anonymousreply 241July 9, 2018 7:20 PM

r240, nope DelPo going to win this in 3.

by Anonymousreply 242July 9, 2018 7:36 PM

R242: Even with that i think Nole will end first

by Anonymousreply 243July 9, 2018 7:43 PM

Anyone notices Simon's bulge?

by Anonymousreply 244July 9, 2018 7:48 PM

Djokovic looked really sharp today. I think it's the best I've seen him play since his injury.

by Anonymousreply 245July 9, 2018 7:54 PM

As long as I don't have to watch Djokovich.

by Anonymousreply 246July 9, 2018 7:55 PM

Yes, R244, there was a noticeable bulge there.

by Anonymousreply 247July 9, 2018 7:58 PM

well we can pencil in Nadal for the SF. No way will Del Potro beat him in the QF should he finish off Simon tomorrow. He looked exhausted in the third set today. He'll need to win a quick set tomorrow to have any chance on Wednesday. Simon won't do anything Nadal either.

hopefully Raonic can just out-servebot him

by Anonymousreply 250July 9, 2018 10:10 PM

Anderson, Isner and Raonic still alive in this late in the tournament is a disaster for anyone interested in good tennis.

by Anonymousreply 252July 9, 2018 11:16 PM

Raonic has more to his game than Isner. Isner is sooo boring and against better players he can't return the ball worth a shit.

R249 Trump watching Wimbledon? Given the expected widespread protests during his visit it just can't end up well for him, I am partially hoping he'll appear and gets booed off

by Anonymousreply 256July 10, 2018 6:46 AM

Will Isner wear a MAGA 🧢 if Trump really comes to watch him play?

by Anonymousreply 257July 10, 2018 7:08 AM

The Delpo-Simon could be fun to watch if Simon wins the fourth.

by Anonymousreply 258July 10, 2018 10:27 AM

Raonic has a nice game (nothing great but quite good) apart of his big serve. Isner is simply to big and heavy, but when he is on he can be dangerous in any surface (Nadal suffered to win against him a lot of years ago in the first round of Roland Garros, the closer he was to lose in Paris without losing). The problem with big servers is that they are incredibly boring to watch on grass. I remember the Sampras-Ivanisevic final and it was a boredom after the entertaining Martinez-Navratilova final. To be honest i think a big server could have defeated Nadal in the early rounds but now it'll needed someone better like Nole to defeat him

by Anonymousreply 259July 10, 2018 10:31 AM

Of all the women quarterfinalists, only half seem to have the "right" bodies for tennis. If I saw Kerber on the street, for example, I might have guessed she's a professional tennis player, but Ostapenko's body looks quite frau-esque and I would never have thought she won the French Open last year. Of course, Serena, the greatest women's player in history, doesn't exactly have the kind of body I'd associate with tennis either. So, of all major sports, is tennis the most accommodating of different body types?

by Anonymousreply 260July 10, 2018 12:47 PM

I guess ESPN (the app) does not feel that Delpo-Simon is worth it. They have an astronaut, two Presser feeds, two Wimbledon Channels and one in Spanish. No Delpo.....

by Anonymousreply 261July 10, 2018 12:50 PM

R261, finally ESPN2 switched to the Delpo v. Simon match.

by Anonymousreply 262July 10, 2018 12:53 PM

Who are the “giant slayers”remaining?

by Anonymousreply 263July 10, 2018 1:00 PM

DelPo team.

by Anonymousreply 264July 10, 2018 1:02 PM

Ugh, Delpo was serving for the match but really blew that game.

by Anonymousreply 265July 10, 2018 1:11 PM

Delpo serving for the match, even had match point, then blew it. Now he has to serve to stay in the set.

by Anonymousreply 266July 10, 2018 1:12 PM

Delpo finally closes out Simon. I'm glad it didn't go to five sets because Delpo is going to need all his energy for Nadal.

by Anonymousreply 267July 10, 2018 1:23 PM

it took 4 hr 25 min for del po to dispose off Simon on Grass .So I think anyone can predict match of Juan/rafa

by Anonymousreply 268July 10, 2018 1:24 PM

Delpo!!!! I am surprised that it will be his second QF at Wimbledon. He looked very tired, unfortunately.

by Anonymousreply 269July 10, 2018 1:25 PM

Yeah, r269, Delpo looked both tired and impatient -- and that's not going to help at all when he plays Rafa.

by Anonymousreply 270July 10, 2018 1:31 PM

Yeah, Delpo is going to have to serve big, hit winners, and hope Nadal is a bit off. If Delpo can get out to an early lead, Nadal may get nervous as the ghosts of his past losses prey on him. But probably Nadal wins.

Ostapenko looked good today. Kerber looked a little tight closing out Kasatkina. I have no idea who will win between Bertens and Goerges. It's hard not to see Serena in the final, but Serena can have off days and beat herself. Unless she does that, though, I see Serena in the final. But whether Ostapenko or Kerber, both could challenge Serena.

by Anonymousreply 271July 10, 2018 1:44 PM

And who is that beautiful man sitting in Delpo's box? He has a beard (the man).

by Anonymousreply 272July 10, 2018 1:57 PM

From the replies: Apparently Nole only played one of his nine QFs on Centre Court...even when Roger and Rafa were not there?? Wow, that is ridiculous.

by Anonymousreply 273July 10, 2018 1:57 PM

So far, Giorgi doesn't intimidated at all playing Serena.

by Anonymousreply 274July 10, 2018 2:17 PM

Giorgi says she doesn't watch tennis, doesn't really like tennis and doesn't really know who Serena is. So I'm not surprised she isn't intimidated.

by Anonymousreply 275July 10, 2018 2:27 PM

Giorgi takes the first set.

by Anonymousreply 276July 10, 2018 2:34 PM

Wow, impressive from Giorgi so far. Not sure if Serena can raise her game enough if Giorgi stays consistent in hitting the ball as hard as she's hitting it.

by Anonymousreply 277July 10, 2018 2:34 PM

Giorgi is also serving beautifully. Some of her first serves are above 110 mph with good placement.

by Anonymousreply 278July 10, 2018 2:35 PM

Giorgi has no "game B," so if she starts missing some of her forehands and serves, don't expect her to change tactics. She'll just keep hitting the fur off the ball, whether it goes in or not.

by Anonymousreply 279July 10, 2018 2:39 PM

ESPN just showed a stat that the average speed of Giorgi's groundstrokes is 4 mph faster than Serena's average speed (72 to 68 mph).

by Anonymousreply 280July 10, 2018 2:40 PM

Shit, I had a work call and came back with Serena up a break. Is Serena playing better or did Giorgi's level drop, or was it a combination of both?

by Anonymousreply 281July 10, 2018 2:53 PM

Giorgi's level dipped ever so slightly, r281. Williams is about the same.

by Anonymousreply 282July 10, 2018 2:58 PM

So, um... Apparently, the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club makes you a top seed if at one point of your life you happened to weigh more than a couple dozens stones?

And nobody told me to sign up???

by Anonymousreply 283July 10, 2018 3:07 PM

Serena's serve is really clicking now. If she continues to serve like this, she'll have her 24th Major title.

by Anonymousreply 284July 10, 2018 3:37 PM

Serena won 74% of her SECOND serve points. That is so unreal.

by Anonymousreply 285July 10, 2018 3:42 PM

She's the greatest.

by Anonymousreply 286July 10, 2018 3:44 PM

Yay the old bitch won again!

by Anonymousreply 287July 10, 2018 3:47 PM

Agreed that Serena will be unbeatable if she continues to serve like today; she lost only 10 points on her serve over the 2nd AND 3rd set!

by Anonymousreply 288July 10, 2018 3:59 PM

I knew Serena would have trouble with Giorgi. It's a shame Giorgi and her father are such odd balls because I love her game-she's like the WTA version of Fernando Gonzalez with the way she goes for broke on almost every shot. Serena was really impressive after dropping that first set.

I'm surprised that Kerber vs. Kasatkina, Osapenko vs. Cibulkova didn't both go 3 sets. I'm happy both the slam champs won though. The SF lineup now looks very decent.

Biggest surprise for me was Goerges defeating Bertens. I thought Bertens would win in straights based on her form.

Glad Del Potro won but I bet he'll be pooped tomorrow against Nadal. Remember at the USO last year when he won a long match against Federer and then had nothing left in the SF against Nadal? I expect the same tomorrow

by Anonymousreply 289July 10, 2018 4:13 PM

I wonder if Serena will stick with it the next year or two to try to get to 25 Slams, then retire. She seems to struggle, though, when she’s bumping up against those records.

by Anonymousreply 290July 10, 2018 4:28 PM

If she wins this then she just needs one more. I hope she gets it within the year and retires after. She will have a record no one will probably ever reach, what's the point in continuing. Shes also talked about wanting more kids and she wont want to be too much older for that with her medical problems in the past.

by Anonymousreply 291July 10, 2018 4:35 PM

I give her another 2 years.

I don't see why she can't/won't win Wimbledon and the US this year. And if she can do that, then 26+ will be easier since she won't have to deal with any expectations or pressure. Who can really challenge her anyway? The rest of the WTA truly are mental midgets.

by Anonymousreply 292July 10, 2018 4:45 PM

I wonder about Venus' tennis plans. Last year she had great results despite not winning a title but this year she's struggling to win matches. I doubt she'll defend her USO SF points either. She could finish the year outside the top 30 unless she starts doing well again. Other than her IW & Miami results this season, she's been awful.

by Anonymousreply 293July 10, 2018 4:45 PM

R291

I thought Court's grand slam record was going to be untouchable in perpetuity but here we are. Serena would be dumb to to stop trying after the 25th. If one is able, why not raise the ceiling as high possible?

by Anonymousreply 294July 10, 2018 4:48 PM

26 would already be hard to pass. The closest of active players is her sister at 7.

by Anonymousreply 295July 10, 2018 4:50 PM

WTA's so bad right now, I think Steffi (oops sorry, Stefany) Graf would have a chance as a 40-something year old.

by Anonymousreply 296July 10, 2018 4:59 PM

I think Davenport could come back now and beat some of these WTA gals.

by Anonymousreply 297July 10, 2018 5:27 PM

when you're an all-time great, you can often compete with players after retiring. I remember Graf retired in 1999. In 2004, she played World Team Tennis and defeated Likhovsteva who was just coming off of a SF run at RG

by Anonymousreply 298July 10, 2018 5:36 PM

If Goerges was unable to trouble Serena on clay, there's zero probabilities that she'll trouble her on grass. Kerber and Ostapenko both can defeat Serena, in my opinion Kerber has more chances because her game is very different. It will depend of how inspired will be Serena with her serve, if she had one of those days where she serves like there's no tomorrow any rival will be toast. Giorgi is a player who is able to challenge everyone, unfortunately that's all she can do because she has real problems to close her matches.

Nishikori-Djokovic, Nadal-Del Potro will be interesting. Of course all the chances Del Potro has rely on him being able to start the match winning, if he lost the first set it'll be a heavy defeat like in Roland Garros

So glad 'injured' Dom Thiem is on holiday.

What an asshole. So these younger guys don't respect Wimbledon or the grass season at all.Not where they make their fortune or their name.

by Anonymousreply 302July 10, 2018 8:19 PM

Serena's serving today in the 2nd and 3rd sets was downright scary. When her serve is clicking, the rest of her game can be at just 80% and she can still beat anyone on the WTA.

by Anonymousreply 303July 10, 2018 9:07 PM

Hopefully Serena's serve is off more than it's on or unfortunately she will win.

by Anonymousreply 304July 10, 2018 9:20 PM

HORRORS! Fed on Court One????? I hope he can handle it.

by Anonymousreply 305July 10, 2018 9:32 PM

Crankerer will appear tomorrow.

by Anonymousreply 306July 10, 2018 10:30 PM

well as someone posted above, Djokovic complained (and rightfully so) that he hasn't been on center court that much at all this year.

by Anonymousreply 307July 10, 2018 10:32 PM

Speaking of how weak the WTA is now... I wonder if Davenport/Capriati/Hingis are pissed. If they were playing now? They'd have SO many more Slams. Similarly, if Steffi hadn't retired in near peak form? She'd have 25 or 26 herself IMHO.

by Anonymousreply 308July 10, 2018 10:49 PM

What gets me frustrated with the organizers is that Centre Court can be available for play because the day's scheduled matches are complete, and they won't move a match over there. Even though they have the ability to close the roof and play a bit later into the evening to get the match finished. On Monday, instead of trying to move Djokovic's match to Centre, they put a Jamie Murray mixed doubles match on Centre.

I get that a Jamie Murray match might have some fans in the U.K., but do you risk screwing over Djokovic or Khachanov by making the start Monday, finish Tuesday, return Wednesday? That gives the organizers a little more say in the results than I'm comfortable with.

The solution is easy: adjust the court assignments so you don't have two best-of-five matches on courts that have limited time capacity. Centre Court is fine, knowing they can go late, but Court Two, where Simon and Delpo got screwed? Have two women's matches/one men's match.

(Also, play a final set tiebreaker.)

by Anonymousreply 309July 10, 2018 10:54 PM

I expect there's quite a bit of maintenance and attention to the grass in Centre so it's camera ready for the next day.

by Anonymousreply 310July 10, 2018 11:26 PM

I was rooting for Kasatkina against Kerber today. Her game is beautiful to watch and she can be such a gadfly with her perfect drop shots. Too bad she doesn’t have a more forceful serve, because she was generally able to outfox Kerber in long rallies. If she can find more power in her serve, she’ll have a real shot at winning titles.

by Anonymousreply 311July 10, 2018 11:43 PM

Nole.

by Anonymousreply 312July 11, 2018 12:05 AM

Daria kills any momentum by making silly errors.

by Anonymousreply 313July 11, 2018 12:36 AM

A. Zverev

by Anonymousreply 314July 11, 2018 12:37 AM

Kerber was getting pissed at the amount of drop shots Kasatkina was hitting

by Anonymousreply 315July 11, 2018 12:39 AM

Not wanting to be a curmudgeon, I nevertheless have to ask whether there is anything remotely humorous about posting "A. Zverev", "B. Zverev", etc. Is there some hidden DL joke or irony that I'm missing? Because it seems pointless and idiotic.

by Anonymousreply 316July 11, 2018 1:07 AM

R316, “Nole” is simply a substitute for “Bump” on DL tennis threads. No more, no less.

by Anonymousreply 317July 11, 2018 1:08 AM

In which case it's even more idiotic since there's no need to bump an already busy enough thread.

by Anonymousreply 318July 11, 2018 1:27 AM

Also. Anyone notice how dykey Kasatkina is?

by Anonymousreply 319July 11, 2018 1:41 AM

Also, the A. Zverev/"Melo" fan-fic children need to find a website that operates on that level.

by Anonymousreply 320July 11, 2018 1:52 AM

by Anonymousreply 324July 11, 2018 2:06 AM

Jana's game was amazing, if she was mentally tougher the story would be very different because she was the type of player who was able to cause trouble to everyone. Monica really struggled against her in the big matches, but Monica killer instinct almost always prevailed.

To be honest, i want Djokovic to win. Rafa and Roger made their come back, now it's time Nole make his. And by US open i wish a qtr full of new talents, i need new faces in the last rounds

by Anonymousreply 328July 11, 2018 11:58 AM

It seems Novak and Roger started their matches very focused. Nishikori doesn't seem in the best form to upset Nole (even he is progressing quite well) and Anderson didn't have enough game to give Federer trouble unless he had an amazing day with his serve (but his serve is powerful but his percentage of first serves is not that high)

by Anonymousreply 329July 11, 2018 12:27 PM

I want at least one of the big three to lose today but that's doubtful with how they are playing.

by Anonymousreply 330July 11, 2018 12:34 PM

Anderson break Federer's serve in the second. probably won't be able to hold but at least watching Roger behind on the score is something new

by Anonymousreply 331July 11, 2018 12:54 PM

I also want one of the big three to lose.

by Anonymousreply 332July 11, 2018 12:56 PM

Djokovic is hitting his groundstrokes with lots more topspin. Has he been playing like that throughout the tournament?

by Anonymousreply 333July 11, 2018 1:00 PM

Who left on the draw can really give gramps a challenge?

by Anonymousreply 334July 11, 2018 1:01 PM

Nadal?

by Anonymousreply 335July 11, 2018 1:07 PM

If one of the big three has to lose i prefer not being Djokovic because he did it and the previous GS. I can't see Delpo defeating Nadal, he doesn't seem fit enough to do it but i think if he starts winning the first set he has some chances

by Anonymousreply 336July 11, 2018 1:10 PM

I want ALL of the 3 stooges to lose.

by Anonymousreply 337July 11, 2018 1:11 PM

They'll probably cancel the rest of the tournament if Grumps loses

by Anonymousreply 338July 11, 2018 1:14 PM

Grumps. Tehe.

by Anonymousreply 339July 11, 2018 1:17 PM

Well, at least Anderson was able to reach the tie break

by Anonymousreply 340July 11, 2018 1:19 PM

Djokovic looked really sharp against Khachanov. He doesn't look nearly as sharp today against Nishikori.

by Anonymousreply 341July 11, 2018 1:23 PM

Koi pond!

by Anonymousreply 342July 11, 2018 1:32 PM

by Anonymousreply 343July 11, 2018 1:34 PM

Gramps!

by Anonymousreply 344July 11, 2018 1:36 PM

At Wimbledon, R335? Lol.

by Anonymousreply 345July 11, 2018 1:53 PM

Both Nishikori and Djokovic have raised the level of their play. This could turn into quite a compelling match.

by Anonymousreply 346July 11, 2018 1:57 PM

R345 he is a two time champion and normally plays better here the deeper he goes in the tournament.

by Anonymousreply 347July 11, 2018 1:59 PM

I don't know why people dismiss Nadal this way. I remember Muller saying he would never win Wimbledon. Nadal is a two time champion and a three time runner up. yes, he is vulnerable on this surface (specially on early rounds) but if he is fit he is a player difficult to beat

by Anonymousreply 348July 11, 2018 2:06 PM

I don't even like Nadal, and I'm not discounting his chances because as R348 observes, Nadal is fit and difficult to beat. Nadal is tough to play on any surface. This year, Nadal got everything he needed to do well at Wimbledon--a cake draw in the early rounds, never facing a big server and when he did, it was a big server who can't move that well, and hot, dry conditions that make the court have a truer bounce. Delpo can win, but he's got to server very well and win that first set.

by Anonymousreply 349July 11, 2018 2:17 PM

Anderson serves to win the third set 0-40 This is incredibly predictable

by Anonymousreply 350July 11, 2018 2:20 PM

^serve very well

by Anonymousreply 351July 11, 2018 2:20 PM

Good for Kevin Anderson. First set Federer has lost at Wimbledon after winning 34 in a row.

by Anonymousreply 352July 11, 2018 2:27 PM

Congrats to Kevin, finally winning a set against Federer

by Anonymousreply 353July 11, 2018 2:27 PM

has roger started cunting yer?

by Anonymousreply 354July 11, 2018 2:28 PM

Federer is misfiring more than he did in the first couple sets. I think he's looked sharper in other matches. He'll need to play better than the last set plus early in the 4th if he's going to repeat.

by Anonymousreply 355July 11, 2018 2:34 PM

I hope Mirka hasn’t started comfort eating!

by Anonymousreply 356July 11, 2018 2:38 PM

by Anonymousreply 367July 11, 2018 2:58 PM

People on twitter are saying his injured cause obviously that's the only reason he loses and not just weaker play. Of course if he is injured it makes sense. He's almost forty and after 2 decades of competitive sport the body can take so much.

by Anonymousreply 368July 11, 2018 3:02 PM

It can tak so much, R368, and indeed has taken so much. Nadal’s body, I suspect, has taken more.

by Anonymousreply 369July 11, 2018 3:06 PM

Is Nole! back? This is his first GS semifinal in two years.

by Anonymousreply 370July 11, 2018 3:21 PM

The crowd at Fed-Anderson is becoming obnoxious.

by Anonymousreply 371July 11, 2018 3:32 PM

Fed is not looking good to me. It's the 5th, so no tiebreak. Anderson looks more likely to break given current form, but we'll see. The champions sometimes have a way of pulling out these matches.

by Anonymousreply 400July 11, 2018 4:29 PM

All props to Anderson, who clawed his way back after being down two sets to none, and then saving a matchpoint in the 3rd set. He really held his nerve and actually started serving even better as the match wore on.

by Anonymousreply 401July 11, 2018 4:33 PM

Anderson raised his game and Fed's game dropped. I thought it looked like Anderson was more likely to break. Fed was inconsistent today and looked nervous as the match wore on. Definitely props to Anderson for raising his game and staying with it, but he didn't beat an in-form Fed in those last three sets. I bet Anderson loses in the semis to either Raonic or Isner (hopefully Raonic--can't stand Trumpster servebot Isner).

by Anonymousreply 402July 11, 2018 4:37 PM

From losing to Schwartzman from 2-0 and a break up at Roland Garros to beating Federer from 0-2 and a MP down at Wimbledon,

We can always recover from out past and shed the loser tag. Great victory for Anderson Cooper, so happy for him

Roger was gracious in his loss but crowd was not.The muted applause we get after victory or a gentleman like Anderson was disappointing.

Fucking Delpo serving for the second and plays like shit. Goddamn! I think if Nadal wins this Wimbledon, he will surely overtake Federer in the Slam count.

by Anonymousreply 406July 11, 2018 4:44 PM

It was very inspiring match

by Anonymousreply 407July 11, 2018 4:48 PM

Anderson Cooper?

by Anonymousreply 408July 11, 2018 4:50 PM

Roger looked old in those last sets. He had no passion oomph.

delPo looks tired.

by Anonymousreply 409July 11, 2018 4:50 PM

Delpo needs this second set to have a chance. Can't see him pulling off what Anderson did 2 sets down.

by Anonymousreply 410July 11, 2018 4:53 PM

Andy Murray stays true to his deadpan self in debut as pundit

by Anonymousreply 411July 11, 2018 4:54 PM

So who's the fave now? I like Nole's chance. He seems to be peaking.

by Anonymousreply 412July 11, 2018 4:55 PM

It's crazy that Djokovic is the fav. Him or Nadal really since they've won so many. He hasnt been at this stage of a slam in a bit.

by Anonymousreply 413July 11, 2018 4:56 PM

Nadal is Nadal, so he's definitely tough to beat, but I don't think he's playing THAT well that he can't be beaten. Delpo should have served out that second set. Now he'll likely be down 2 sets to 0. I think Nole is the only one left in the draw who can beat Nadal. Certainly whoever gets to the final on this side of the draw is favored over whoever is left on Federer's side. Still, I think Nadal is the favorite overall because he desperately wants to do well at Wimbledon again. It will be Djokovic's desire to come back to the winner's circle vs. Nadal's desire to finally do well at Wimbledon again. Should be a good match to watch.

by Anonymousreply 414July 11, 2018 5:02 PM

Maybe Nadal and Djokovic will wear each other out so much that whoever makes it through that top half has a chance.

by Anonymousreply 415July 11, 2018 5:02 PM

That will be Isner, r415, who will Make American Tennis Great Again!

by Anonymousreply 416July 11, 2018 5:06 PM

R416 hell no

by Anonymousreply 417July 11, 2018 5:07 PM

Delpo!

by Anonymousreply 418July 11, 2018 5:07 PM

I thought Djokovic was peaking just right because he looked so solid against Khachanov. But today, against Nishikori, Novak seemed to lack the confidence to really dictate points at key times. He was fortunate that Nishikori was also a bit off.

by Anonymousreply 419July 11, 2018 5:10 PM

Murray's a very good commentator.

by Anonymousreply 420July 11, 2018 5:20 PM

Can someone please kill Chris Fowler?

by Anonymousreply 421July 11, 2018 5:32 PM

R421 what's he said now?

by Anonymousreply 422July 11, 2018 5:36 PM

I'd rather Djokovic win than Nadal even though he is kind of obnoxious.

by Anonymousreply 423July 11, 2018 5:37 PM

R422, he was asking John McEnroe to guess how much it cost to buy a ball kid's outfit. But does it really matter what he says? He annoys by simply talking.

by Anonymousreply 424July 11, 2018 5:39 PM

Uh-oh! So now Delpo leads 2 sets to 1 against Nadal.

by Anonymousreply 425July 11, 2018 5:53 PM

Nadal will need to do it in 5

by Anonymousreply 426July 11, 2018 5:53 PM

Of course Nadal takes a long break to try to break Delpo's momentum.

by Anonymousreply 427July 11, 2018 5:57 PM

Isner will probably lose

by Anonymousreply 428July 11, 2018 6:03 PM

Because he's losing Nadal will probably slow his play down to the speed of molasses.

by Anonymousreply 429July 11, 2018 6:07 PM

In between points I mean

by Anonymousreply 430July 11, 2018 6:08 PM

And I think Nadal is on his way out. He looks like he does not have any fighting spirit....

by Anonymousreply 431July 11, 2018 6:12 PM

DelPo team

by Anonymousreply 432July 11, 2018 6:14 PM

Raonic team

by Anonymousreply 433July 11, 2018 6:14 PM

If Nadal loses today I dont think it's a given that Djokovic will win.

by Anonymousreply 434July 11, 2018 6:14 PM

Delpo vs. Raonic final.....Ratings through the roof!

by Anonymousreply 435July 11, 2018 6:17 PM

Agree, R434. My favorite behind DelPo is Anderson.

by Anonymousreply 436July 11, 2018 6:18 PM

And just when people say that he lost his fighting spirit he broke Delpo's serve. If they go to five sets Nadal is clearly the favourite. Delpo will fight but i doubt he will prevail.

Anyway, Nadal is not playing good enough to intimidate Djokovic

and i want Isner out. Raonic is bearable, but Isner is a slow serve bot

by Anonymousreply 437July 11, 2018 6:18 PM

Delpo had all the momentum, then plays a shitty service game to give Nadal the break. Can he get the momentum back? Nadal still looks a bit skittish.

by Anonymousreply 438July 11, 2018 6:20 PM

And isner broke Raonic. With this type of players a break is huge and even more on grass

by Anonymousreply 439July 11, 2018 6:34 PM

Shit, Nadal/Delpo looks like it's going 5, and Delpo is starting to look weary while Nadal looks like he's gaining energy.

by Anonymousreply 440July 11, 2018 6:37 PM

Yea R439 neither one is giving much ground so this break is pivotal

by Anonymousreply 441July 11, 2018 6:37 PM

fucking useless delpo

by Anonymousreply 442July 11, 2018 6:38 PM

Before today, Federer and Nadal have never lost at a slam on the same day. can delpo do this 4 us?

by Anonymousreply 443July 11, 2018 6:40 PM

delpo should take a long bathroom brake right now .let rafa OCDing on court in anticipation

by Anonymousreply 444July 11, 2018 6:42 PM

And now can be the turning point, if Delpo is able to win his first two serves i think he'll fight till the end but if Rafa starts breaking one of them (and Delpo had some trouble with his serves lately) it'll be an easy five set for him. Anyway, Djokovic will be the favourite in the semi

by Anonymousreply 445July 11, 2018 6:42 PM

I hope so, DSL.

by Anonymousreply 446July 11, 2018 6:42 PM

by Anonymousreply 448July 11, 2018 6:54 PM

ESL, I didn’t do it intentionally, but now I wish I had. Tehe.

by Anonymousreply 449July 11, 2018 6:55 PM

R448: No, not even for me who i am primarily a women's tennis fan. Wta sucks right now and they can pray the new child prodigies (Marta Kostyuk, Cori Gauff) live to their potential (and have charisma). Atp is way more interesting with a lot of up and coming players. But of course without the big four most top players doesn't really have that much following

by Anonymousreply 450July 11, 2018 6:57 PM

Boring tennis.

by Anonymousreply 451July 11, 2018 6:59 PM

American sweethearts Sock/Stephens lost their match to Makrova/Bruno . But dont worry american gays. your all american boi is going to win this singles match

by Anonymousreply 453July 11, 2018 7:07 PM

The seats are empty as everyone's off watching England v Croatia in the football.

The UK (England, mainly) has ground to a halt right now.

by Anonymousreply 454July 11, 2018 7:08 PM

Nadal is the one going after it right now. As much as I hate him, I have to say it's very impressive. Hopefully Djokovic will take him out in the semis.

by Anonymousreply 455July 11, 2018 7:12 PM

Well, Delpo is done, he was flirting with disaster in his last serves (like Raonic)

by Anonymousreply 456July 11, 2018 7:12 PM

Whoever wins this match will probably lose to Djokovic in the semifinal.

by Anonymousreply 457July 11, 2018 7:13 PM

That break was it for Raonic

by Anonymousreply 458July 11, 2018 7:14 PM

fucking delp po

by Anonymousreply 459July 11, 2018 7:14 PM

What if isner wins the whole thing lol

by Anonymousreply 460July 11, 2018 7:16 PM

Well, he had a masters 1000, but on a final against Nadal or Djokovic it's too much for him (or at least it's what i think)

by Anonymousreply 461July 11, 2018 7:17 PM

Don't make it about me R452!

Harry Kane is worse thann Delpo

by Anonymousreply 463July 11, 2018 7:18 PM

The thing is, with Federer gone, I hope that whoever comes out of the bottom half takes it since Anderson, Raonic and Isner represent everything I dislike about a particular brand of tennis. All three are examples of the "big serve + marginal skills" style of tennis.

by Anonymousreply 464July 11, 2018 7:20 PM

isner/milos match is so shoddy

by Anonymousreply 465July 11, 2018 7:22 PM

[quote] Harry Kane is worse thann Delpo

In what ways?

by Anonymousreply 466July 11, 2018 7:22 PM

DelPO collapsing like a ton of bricks.

by Anonymousreply 467July 11, 2018 7:23 PM

Delpo loses and I'm no longer interested in the men's side

by Anonymousreply 468July 11, 2018 7:23 PM

I want pig face to win.

by Anonymousreply 469July 11, 2018 7:23 PM

Well, it's pretty much over for Delpo. Nadal is hitting winners at will.

I think it'll be up to Djokovic to take out Nadal. Help me Nole-wan-kenobi. You're our only hope!

by Anonymousreply 470July 11, 2018 7:24 PM

Now Delpo had his chances to break Nadal back, he gets another her he has to do it now, it will be too late at 3-5

by Anonymousreply 471July 11, 2018 7:26 PM

Isner through

by Anonymousreply 472July 11, 2018 7:29 PM

I guess we will have Cheeto visit Wimbledon after all DX

by Anonymousreply 473July 11, 2018 7:29 PM

Nadal is killing Delpo with the drop shot. Good play.

by Anonymousreply 474July 11, 2018 7:30 PM

Juan should be glad that he plays tennis and not soccer after soccer fans did to messi for no fault of his , Juan would have cried had he got that much ridicule

by Anonymousreply 475July 11, 2018 7:31 PM

Nadal is flirting with disaster too in his last serves

by Anonymousreply 476July 11, 2018 7:32 PM

Hope Anderson beats Isner

by Anonymousreply 477July 11, 2018 7:33 PM

Will Isner wear a MAGA hat in the semis??

by Anonymousreply 478July 11, 2018 7:34 PM

The Dowager Countess in the house!

by Anonymousreply 479July 11, 2018 7:35 PM

He will. He is more versatile and has more exp at big stage{us open final]

by Anonymousreply 480July 11, 2018 7:36 PM

American tennis hits a new low. Please, God, no......

by Anonymousreply 481July 11, 2018 7:37 PM

Isner is going to warm up in something from the Ivanka Trump line.

by Anonymousreply 482July 11, 2018 7:37 PM

Aaaaaand it's over. Buh-bye Delpo.

by Anonymousreply 483July 11, 2018 7:41 PM

The only one that counts, R484. Maggie Smith as Violet Grantham.

by Anonymousreply 486July 11, 2018 7:43 PM

Delpo looks winded but, as Boris Becker once said, the 5th said is all about heart.

by Anonymousreply 487July 11, 2018 7:44 PM

At least he won his serve very easily

by Anonymousreply 488July 11, 2018 7:44 PM

This is a great match. Well, a great couple of sets. Nadal serving for the match.....

by Anonymousreply 489July 11, 2018 7:45 PM

Maggie Smith is in the royal box!!!!!!

by Anonymousreply 490July 11, 2018 7:49 PM

Simona can now comfort DelPO.

by Anonymousreply 491July 11, 2018 7:52 PM

Fuck, I knew Nadal was going to make noise this Wimbledon. I also felt in my bones that Roger wouldn't repeat. Whoever wins this side of the draw should win easily in the final no matter who he faces.

by Anonymousreply 492July 11, 2018 7:52 PM

Hope Djokovic and Nadal wear each other out next round.

by Anonymousreply 493July 11, 2018 7:52 PM

Yeah, I'm dying to see Anderson or (shudder) Isner win the whole thing... Nadal and Djokovic are now here in the position to save good tennis.

by Anonymousreply 494July 11, 2018 7:54 PM

R494 Absolutely.....Anyone but Isner, but hopefully, NODAL.

by Anonymousreply 495July 11, 2018 7:55 PM

Vamos!

by Anonymousreply 496July 11, 2018 7:57 PM

Has Isner tweeted yet? Will Trump accept his invitation?

by Anonymousreply 497July 11, 2018 7:59 PM

where this help/Juan rumor is coming from?I have not seen it on twitter

by Anonymousreply 498July 11, 2018 8:00 PM

Isner and Anderson will probably play a long match but with few taxing points. While Nadal/Djokovic will be a grind out battle of the fittest.

by Anonymousreply 499July 11, 2018 8:01 PM

Melania will flash her beef curtains from the Royal Box in order to inspire Isner.

by Anonymousreply 500July 11, 2018 8:01 PM

The semis will be on Friday if he wins, when Trump is in town, and Isner was asked whether he would like the tennis fan to come and watch him -- a rhetorical question given the president's schedule.

"Certainly. I'd love to have Trump come watch me. That would be awesome. Maybe I'll tweet at him if I win on Wednesday. I know a lot of people won't like that, but I don't care," he said.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 501July 11, 2018 8:06 PM

Well I don't think trump can come as he has a busy schedule. however FLOTUS can come wearing jacket which reads "Isner I don't care"

by Anonymousreply 502July 11, 2018 8:11 PM

I didn't care about Isner's politics when they had nothing to do with us but if he is really going to bring the turd here I will have to root against him

by Anonymousreply 503July 11, 2018 8:12 PM

Fucking Isner. I can't even enjoy Wimbledon without being reminded of that abomination in the White House. Now I want Isner to lose in the worst way. I guess it could be worse -- imagine if Coco was still in the tournament too.

by Anonymousreply 504July 11, 2018 8:16 PM

I nominate Gunther Parche to welcome Trump to the AELTCC.

by Anonymousreply 505July 11, 2018 8:17 PM

Isner seemed a nice guy, or at least i thought he was nice. I know he defended Tennys Sandgren but i didn't knew that he was a deplorable. Anyway, most american tennis player are heavily republican.

If someone tell me one of the big three was going to lose i wouldn't bet on Federer. It's a tough loss, because Roger knows his days are numbered and the tennir order can change from a day to the other.

If Nole really believes in himself he is the favourite, but he'll be really tested against Rafa. I don't think Rafa is on the same level, the first good player (but not that good on grass) he plays and he almost lose, but Djokovic failed in Australia and Roland Garros in tight matches, of course he doesn't have the same pressure against Rafa. In my opinion if he starts winning he has big chances to win but if it's Rafa the one winning the first, the odds drop drastically for Nole.

Of course facing a big serve on a Wimbledon final will be a tough test (no matter if the winner of Nadal/Djokovic is the big fave), if the serve is on, Anderson or Isner could surprise. Of course in a big final nerves play a big role and it's difficult to be serve bot

by Anonymousreply 506July 11, 2018 8:26 PM

Tennis needs new champ That is why I hope nadal/Nole wear each other out leaving door open for Anderson/John

by Anonymousreply 507July 11, 2018 8:30 PM

Is Jack Sock a deplorable?

by Anonymousreply 508July 11, 2018 8:35 PM

My interest in tennis has been pretty low over the past year or so, so I wasn't aware of the Sandgren controversy. Having just read about it, it was an OMG moment. I guess he's the first openly alt-right athlete of any note.

by Anonymousreply 509July 11, 2018 8:37 PM

For what its worth, at least Isner defended LGBT fans who wanted the Margaret Court Arena renamed

But he is a deplorable. He chose his side

by Anonymousreply 510July 11, 2018 8:42 PM

misery got his wish. though he won't celebrate openly

by Anonymousreply 511July 11, 2018 8:44 PM

R510: That was my perception, that he was gay friendly. Of course Juan Carlos Ferrero is pretty conservative too but he is totally pro gay rights. And Kyrgios is a brat but he is pro gay too

R507: Yes, tennis needs new champs, but Isner or Anderson are not the solution. Tennis need new faces, Zverev, Shapovalov, Tsitsipas or Thiem. Anyway i think new players need to start to think what's the image they want to give. Zverev can be charming, but he can be cocky too and his behaviour on court can be highly improved and Shapovalov on court reminds me a lot of Hewitt and that's never a good idea. Tennis need new faces, someone with charisma, someone smart, but most than anything tennis need those new faces to dethrone the legends. If Nadal, Federer and Djokovic retire before the new players defeat them and show some dominance it would be very bad for the game

by Anonymousreply 512July 11, 2018 9:06 PM

Thiem hasn't been a new face for several years. He's almost 25 and is already quite tiresome with his PDA.

by Anonymousreply 513July 11, 2018 9:19 PM

So does anyone think Rafa stands a chance against the revitalized Nole?

by Anonymousreply 514July 11, 2018 9:26 PM

Of course Nadal stands a chance. I still don't think Nadal played that great today. Delpo blew a lot of chances, and Nadal played some tight points. I give the edge to Djokovic, but you can never, ever count out Nadal.

by Anonymousreply 515July 11, 2018 9:31 PM

I don't think Djokovic played all that well today either. He was just fortunate that Nishikori was also off. So I think the Nadal v. Djokovic match could easily go either way, although I might give a slight edge to Nole.

by Anonymousreply 516July 11, 2018 9:51 PM

Nole

by Anonymousreply 521July 11, 2018 11:12 PM

I think it's hilarious that Fed lost, especially since he skipped clay season just so he could win Wimbledon.

by Anonymousreply 522July 12, 2018 12:15 AM

R522 that's so true. I think it makes the loss sting even more lol

never in a million years did I think I'd be cheering for Djokovic and Anderson but I'll be so pissed if we get a grunting pig vs. deplorable scum final. Raonic came up lame again and Del Potro just wasn't able to get the ball away from Nadal on crucial points in the last 2 sets.

by Anonymousreply 526July 12, 2018 1:17 AM

Hoping for Nadal at this point.

by Anonymousreply 527July 12, 2018 1:30 AM

I’m rooting for Serena and Nadal.

by Anonymousreply 528July 12, 2018 1:36 AM

I'm for Serena or Kerber.

Anybody but Mr. Djokovic.

by Anonymousreply 531July 12, 2018 1:46 AM

Anyone but Isner. I’d even prefer Nadal over Isner. Not a Nole fan. So Anderson for me please.

by Anonymousreply 532July 12, 2018 1:55 AM

I actually like this new Angry Djokovic incarnation better. Fuck what the crowds think of you and keep rollin'...

by Anonymousreply 533July 12, 2018 1:59 AM

I want Kerber and Anderson. But that's not likely to happen.

by Anonymousreply 534July 12, 2018 2:01 AM

Not “Boobs out” but “middle fingers out, mutha fuckas!”

by Anonymousreply 535July 12, 2018 2:02 AM

Maybe Serena will win both singles titles.

by Anonymousreply 536July 12, 2018 2:04 AM

Women's tennis has become such a shitshow that, as the Millennial gays would say, I can't even. The fact that Caroline Wozniacki and Simona Halep hold the two Grand Slam titles this year tells me everything I need to know about its current state. The only one I can somewhat get excited about is Sloane Stephens.

by Anonymousreply 537July 12, 2018 2:07 AM

In order of preference: Anderson, Nadal, grease fire.

by Anonymousreply 538July 12, 2018 2:08 AM

[quote]The only one I can somewhat get excited about is Sloane Stephens

But she's one of the most inconsistent players? It's like she either loses in the 1st round or wins the whole thing

by Anonymousreply 539July 12, 2018 2:10 AM

If Nadal gets his 18th? Fed's 20 ain't safe.

by Anonymousreply 540July 12, 2018 2:26 AM

for me it's begrudgingly Anderson 1st, then disdainfully Djokovic, then Nadal but only because I don't want to think of that deplorable scum servebot as a slam champ. None of my favorite male players are left.

I love Sloane Stephens when she's in good form and her mind is right. If she can get more consistent she could save the future of women's tennis. Hopefully she'll be back to playing well during the USO series as she has lots of points to defend.

by Anonymousreply 541July 12, 2018 2:26 AM

Sloane may be inconsistent but she's far more exciting to watch than those pushers Halep and Wozniacki, plus she seems like a genuinely nice girl.

by Anonymousreply 542July 12, 2018 2:26 AM

If not Roger, then who?

by Anonymousreply 543July 12, 2018 2:38 AM

Rafa!! He was great today.

I'm glad Federer lost. I'm sorry I didn't get to hear those ass-kissing commenters about it, what did they say?

I hope Serena wins, too.

by Anonymousreply 544July 12, 2018 2:39 AM

A little piece of me died with Delpo's anguishing loss today.

by Anonymousreply 545July 12, 2018 2:40 AM

oh, Mary (Pierce)

by Anonymousreply 546July 12, 2018 2:41 AM

R544 Federer’s fans were insufferable today. There was one woman that made this high pitched sound every time he scored a point. It was ridiculous. That being said I was glued to my TV for both the Federer and Rafa matches. What a great day for tennis. Two amazing matches.

I’m pulling for Rafa and I think Serena pretty much has it in the bag.

by Anonymousreply 547July 12, 2018 2:45 AM

To be honest, I was secretly hoping for Kei to do something surprising. He needs to bounce Chang.

by Anonymousreply 548July 12, 2018 3:01 AM

I was hoping for Nishikori to get through as well, R548. Alas.

by Anonymousreply 549July 12, 2018 4:00 AM

I have to say it: Sascha sending Marcelo these silly questions is adorable!

by Anonymousreply 550July 12, 2018 4:01 AM

I was watching the Rafa match and the World Cup game!!

Both fantastic finishes for Me!

by Anonymousreply 551July 12, 2018 5:23 AM

Anyone but Serena for the women; anyone but Nadal and D. Plorable for the men.

by Anonymousreply 552July 12, 2018 9:56 AM

The Sousa/Mayer - Verdasco/Marrero match has been reported by a bookmaker to anticorruption investigators for suspicious betting and potential match fixing.

by Anonymousreply 553July 12, 2018 10:10 AM

So far, Kerber is playing very smart, doing just enough to let Ostapenko self-destruct with tons of unforced errors.

by Anonymousreply 554July 12, 2018 12:45 PM

Hope Kerber wins in the final no matter who she plays.

by Anonymousreply 555July 12, 2018 1:20 PM

I'm obviously pulling for Serena but it's be hard no to be pulling for Isner also. I always want to root for the Americans. Especially over someone like Nadal

by Anonymousreply 557July 12, 2018 1:43 PM

Kerber is exactly the type of rival Serena will need to serve well or she will lose, if the match goes to long rallies Serena will lose. And Kerber defeated Serena on a previous GS final so she is not the type that will choke for sure on a GS final against Serena

by Anonymousreply 558July 12, 2018 1:47 PM

R557, what don’t you like about Nadal? (I’m not a fan either.)

by Anonymousreply 559July 12, 2018 1:48 PM

I don't dislike Nadal R559. I actually think he's awesome for being so involved with the youth in Spain.

I just like when it's not the same people winning every tournament. I won't push for Serena nearly so much after she beats Margaret Court's record

by Anonymousreply 560July 12, 2018 1:50 PM

Nadal is one of the few spanish players that pays tributes in Spain, there are a lot of players ready to tell how proud they are of their country and fly their flag and all that crap but when it's about to pay tributes they are on Switzerland or Monaco.

I get a little tired of Nadal and i know i'm unfair because he is not guilty, but the constant praising when the matches are on tv is really off putting for me. Some commentators bordering being disrespectful on his rivals

by Anonymousreply 561July 12, 2018 1:57 PM

Obviously R561 has never watched a Federer match

by Anonymousreply 562July 12, 2018 2:01 PM

R562: Oh yes, but i'm spanish and i watch them on spanish tv, and even they salivate with Roger it's not the same level of passion they have for Nadal here.

The problem is more than overpraising, because most commentator are pretty useless and they seem to not know basical things about tennis (and tennis is not artistic gymnastics, you don't need to be a great expert to give good comments). There are one commentator that was utterly disrespectful to Stan Wawrinka in last years Roland Garros final. Of course the guy is an horrendous journalist (his comments on moto gp are awful too). The problem is they comment like it was soccer, and tennis is a totally different thing, respect for rivals is important. And i fear for the spanish players that come after Nadal, because nothing will be enough

by Anonymousreply 563July 12, 2018 2:16 PM

useless julia

by Anonymousreply 564July 12, 2018 2:29 PM

Anyone but Isner!!! Racist Isner

by Anonymousreply 565July 12, 2018 2:30 PM

I don't think Isner is personally racist. But he doesn't seem to think racism is a problem at all

by Anonymousreply 566July 12, 2018 2:31 PM

Julia is playing at a high level. I’m impressed.

by Anonymousreply 567July 12, 2018 2:32 PM

Aren't feminists offended that women only get to play 3 sets in GS? Shouldn't they fight for the chance to play 5 sets so they won't be treated differently than men?

by Anonymousreply 568July 12, 2018 2:35 PM

fairness from a feminist ? bitch please

by Anonymousreply 569July 12, 2018 2:37 PM

The final of the YEC for women in the late 80s/early 90s used to be best of 5. I still remember Sabatini winning a 5 setter in the final, I forgot against whom, inclined to say Graf or Navratilova but don't take my word for it.

by Anonymousreply 570July 12, 2018 2:55 PM

I’d like to see that again, R570.

by Anonymousreply 571July 12, 2018 2:56 PM

Did anyone else notice the quick camera change to a shot of a little girl lifting her leg, with her underwear in clear view?! Wtf was up with that? I’m shocked!

by Anonymousreply 572July 12, 2018 3:01 PM

Seles defeated Gabi in 1990 best of 5

Steffi defeated Anke Huber in 1995

Again Steffi defeated hingis in 1996

It was abolished in 1999

by Anonymousreply 573July 12, 2018 3:02 PM

Julia should be ashamed of herself

6/2 6/3?

by Anonymousreply 574July 12, 2018 3:03 PM

Billie Jean’s partner or guest looks very restrained in dress and elegant.

by Anonymousreply 575July 12, 2018 3:06 PM

They’re in the Royal Box in case you want to check them out.

by Anonymousreply 576July 12, 2018 3:07 PM

Ilana Kloss former player from South Africa.

by Anonymousreply 577July 12, 2018 3:10 PM

well, that wasn't very compelling

by Anonymousreply 578July 12, 2018 3:12 PM

Come on Kerber whoop Serena's lumpy ass.

by Anonymousreply 579July 12, 2018 3:13 PM

Kerber better make Serena's fat ass run all over that court till she is ragged.

by Anonymousreply 580July 12, 2018 3:15 PM

Hopefully a different outcome than the 2016 final

by Anonymousreply 581July 12, 2018 3:17 PM

Thanks, R577.

by Anonymousreply 582July 12, 2018 3:17 PM

Good job to Serena but girlfriend needs to take care of those eyebrows. Bushy and unkempt looking like a hot ass mess.

by Anonymousreply 583July 12, 2018 3:20 PM

American teen sensation Coco Gauff lost in the QF of the girls tournament

by Anonymousreply 584July 12, 2018 3:21 PM

I’m not a Serena fan. I think she’s unsportsmanlike but acknowledge she’s likely the greatest female player ever. However I do hope she gets closer to surpassing that cunt Margaret Court’s major record.

by Anonymousreply 585July 12, 2018 3:22 PM

oh fuck Isner

by Anonymousreply 586July 12, 2018 3:25 PM

Kerber vs Williams Women's final

by Anonymousreply 587July 12, 2018 3:26 PM

Kerber wont make as many errors and be more frustrating for Serena to play. I still think Serena will win, unfortunately, but it should be her toughest match of the tournament.

by Anonymousreply 588July 12, 2018 3:28 PM

It could be destiny since all the seeds parted the way so she could get to the final.

by Anonymousreply 589July 12, 2018 3:31 PM

yes she may be the greatest ever but I still think she juiced. She has turned away the testers over and over again.

by Anonymousreply 590July 12, 2018 3:45 PM

she was tested 5xs this year.

by Anonymousreply 591July 12, 2018 3:52 PM

so? if she's clean, why turn them away? And she has a lot of blood clots. very fishy...as you know, blood clots is a side effect of you know what...

by Anonymousreply 592July 12, 2018 3:58 PM

Some things never change...

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 593July 12, 2018 4:03 PM

R590 is a troll, she is tested more than any other player.

by Anonymousreply 594July 12, 2018 4:12 PM

Serena Williams is back on top 30 next Monday.

Top 20 with a title.

by Anonymousreply 595July 12, 2018 4:15 PM

Serena vs. Kerber should be a good final.

by Anonymousreply 596July 12, 2018 4:17 PM

Anderson #6/#7 with SF, #5 with with F, #4 with W

Isner #9 with SF, #8 with F, #5 with W

Djokovic #13 with SF, #11 with F, #10 with W

1. Nadal 2. Federer 3. Zverev still the top 3, Cilic down to #7 at best.

by Anonymousreply 597July 12, 2018 4:19 PM

crazy how Zverev can suck at the slams and still be #3. Yeah OK he did well at RG but still. His results outside the slams have been great though. He just can't keep his level up over a 5 set match yet.

by Anonymousreply 598July 12, 2018 4:21 PM

I'm not sure what to think about PEDs in tennis. Serena has been accused of juicing, so has Nadal, Henin was plagued by those rumors and ultimately retired early. I'm inclined to think they're probably all taking something. There were many rumors that Djokovic finally started doping when he had his marvelous 2011, and that he did it knowing Nadal was doing it. But so far in tennis, at least at the upper echelons, there are only rumors.

Rumors, though, often lead to finally getting evidence. Lance Armstrong is the lead example. Marion Jones is another.

But rumors don't always lead to definitive proof. To this day, although never proven, most people think Florence Griffith Joyner was doping, and it's hard not to think that she was given her records from 1988 are still standing, and the only time they were threatened was by Marion Jones, a confessed doper. Also Griffith Joyner retired in 1989 when it was announced that random, out-of-competition drug testing would be the new norm. Her untimely death at age 38 due to an epileptic seizure, too, was labeled suspicious, but the autopsy didn't find any evidence of PED use.

Michelle Smith, the Irish swimmer who stunned everyone in 1996 by winning several golds seemingly out of nowhere, never tested positive for a banned substance. However, she was banned for 4 years for allegedly tampering with a urine sample, and her husband and trainer, a Dutch discus thrower, had been suspended from his sport due to steroid use. She remarkably improved her times after training exclusively with her juicer husband. She's probably a doper.
