Are there any film series with a Part 3 that is actually good?

I can't think of any. Karate Kid 3 was pretty bad. Godfather III was pretty dire.

Any good ones?

Lord of the Rings: Return of the King?

by Anonymousreply 1July 7, 2018 2:44 AM

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

by Anonymousreply 2July 7, 2018 2:47 AM

Indiana Jones

Exorcist III. Not as good as the original, but leaps and bounds above the shitshow that was Exorcist II: The Heretic.

Stands well on its own. An underrated film, and arguably the best horror film of the 90s.

Toy Story 3, Before Midnight, and War for the Planet of the Apes are some of the few contemporary ones I can think of.

by Anonymousreply 5July 7, 2018 2:56 AM

I love Scream 3

by Anonymousreply 6July 7, 2018 2:57 AM

Scary Movie 3 is my favorite of the franchise. The first two movies were made by the Wayans family but the third is made by the team behind Airplane! So the humor in 3 is silly and goofy and not sexual and gross-out jokes.

SM3 makes fun of The Ring and Signs and 8 Mile which are all ripe for parody.

by Anonymousreply 7July 7, 2018 2:57 AM

Jaws 3 on 3-D is at least fun

by Anonymousreply 8July 7, 2018 2:58 AM

A lot of horror fans consider Nightmare on Elm Street 3 to be the best in the series

by Anonymousreply 9July 7, 2018 2:58 AM

Goldfinger

by Anonymousreply 10July 7, 2018 3:00 AM

“Goldfinger” is a great choice, and if you want to count it as a new franchise every time they replace Bond, then “Skyfall” was the third entry and easily the best of the Craig movies.

National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation

Will have to check out Exorcist III, R4.

by Anonymousreply 13July 7, 2018 3:48 AM

Die Hard 3 Thor : Ragnarok

I will even give Dark Knight Rises a vote even though there were plot holes aplenty. It was great because it completed Christopher Nolan's vision and wrapped up Batman's arc perfectly.

Mission Impossible 3.

Breaking 3: Atomic Thermoblast

R13 You've seen it. That's the only scary scene.

by Anonymousreply 17July 7, 2018 4:08 AM

KARATE KID PT. III was superb OP, fight these tears.

That movie had it all; darksided Daniel-san, a literal karate gang, a hot Sensei with more money than God. And it was obviously penned & directed by a crew coked out of their minds. It made no sense, it was fantastic.

Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade is a very creative and moving 3rd chapter. Should have stopped there but... baby boomer weirdness.

by Anonymousreply 21August 1, 2018 10:53 PM

The original Bourne films are some of the greatest action movies ever made. They should have stopped there.

by Anonymousreply 22August 2, 2018 12:42 AM

"Star Trek III: The Search for Spock" was always an underrated film IMO.

Scary movie 3 was okay lol

Another vote for Friday the 13th Part 3. Jason gets his hockey mask.

by Anonymousreply 28August 2, 2018 3:42 AM

A VERY HAROLD & KUMAR CHRISTMAS is up there. Very heavy on the guy-love.

AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR is probably the best Avengers movie. That's not saying all that much, though.

by Anonymousreply 30December 28, 2018 9:27 PM

Tokyo Drift is better than 2 Fast 2 Furious.

by Anonymousreply 31December 29, 2018 2:15 AM

Agree with R2. Prisoner of Azkaban is far and away the best of the Harry Potter movies. Amazing what a truly great director can do....

by Anonymousreply 32December 29, 2018 2:19 AM

Nightmare on Elm Street 3 owns this thread.

by Anonymousreply 33December 29, 2018 2:20 AM

Back to the Future III - one of my favorites.

by Anonymousreply 34December 29, 2018 2:45 AM

The third animated ALADDIN story, ALADDIN & THE KING OF THIEVES, which unlike the preceding films is actually faithful to THE ARABIAN NIGHTS tales.

Also Aladdin’s father Cassim is a hot Daddy; Genie is retconned to full benevolent power (after the shiteous events of RETURN OF JAFAR); Aladdin gets a fuller backstory; and the song are superb. The only downside is the shockingly-poor animation which we may blame on outsourcing and lack of financial input. Otherwise, the only consistently-watchable and moving ALADDIN movie from D—ney.

Jaws III

by Anonymousreply 37December 30, 2018 2:27 PM

R37!!!! I LOVE Jaws 3-D and Bess Armstrong and Dennis Quaid had great charisma and chemistry. Simon Macorkindale (fuck my spelling) was HOT! Louis Gossett Jr was good too.

That film still WORKS for me- It was a commercial and critical bomb-

The cinematography looks so grainy due to the 3-D, and it really works, I love the underwater park angle, the soundtrack is the BEST of the franchise, and its campy and fun.

by Anonymousreply 38December 30, 2018 3:09 PM

Thor: Ragnarok was leaps and bounds better than the first 2 entries.

Scary Movie 3 was awful! It was just people getting injured over and over and over... No humor whatsoever.

R36 please take your meds and settle down, Mr. Feldman. We know this is your big screen debut and the memories are fond ones, but you’re getting the other residents too excited.

R41 Don't you mean part 4??

by Anonymousreply 42December 30, 2018 4:20 PM

Yeah, R41, he was in Part 4. I was the star of Part 3

by Anonymousreply 43December 30, 2018 4:50 PM

I love Halloween III although technically it's not a sequel as it does not continue the Michael Myers story.

by Anonymousreply 44December 30, 2018 5:13 PM

Godfather III

It has its flaws, not least in that it completed the story's arc (so no more Godfathers [italic]ad infinitum[/italic], no doubt to the dismay of the studio) but the saga needed an endpoint: the promises of the American Dream aren't always real and here lead to self-destruction, belief in it can be a false hope that is ultimately tragic, and tragedy demands retribution; here, after rooting for them as they gun down/outsmart all of their enemies, we see the inevitable destruction of the Corleones.

Destiny and "Happily Ever After" are the exception, not the rule.
