Atlantic City

What’s fun to do there?

by Anonymousreply 10April 4, 2020 4:25 AM

Nada. If you have gambling addiction go. I did see one really hot guy at their version of Bellagio (no maid, though). Got all excited until I realized it was my own reflection in their mirrored halls. Hand to God! Just a genetic cesspool especially after the geriatric jungle clears out. Maybe try Mohegan Sun or Foxwoods. Heard that one place in/near Queens is simian in nature .

Atlantic City is a dump... a bunch of casinos on the Boardwalk interspersed with tacky gift shops selling t-shirts and hermit crabs and fast food. A block or so off the Boardwalk, you'll probably run into homeless people, prostitutes and crack heads. Annoying during the day, dangerous at night. There's a big mall over the water (I think its called Ocean One), that's crowded... mostly local teens or the kids of adults who are in the casinos and were left stranded.

The former Taj Mahal was the only casino on the Boardwalk that was at least aesthetically interesting to look at. But once you got inside, it was rather cavernous and empty. It's too far down the Boardwalk to get a lot of visitors. It's the Hard Rock Casino now... maybe it will be different.

The Borgata is nowhere near the Boardwalk... they have a jitney a block or so off the Boardwalk that goes there. It operates like a city bus. I forgot how much it costs. I never went inside the Borgata, but it looks a lot more modern from outside.

R1... you mean Resorts World. I went there about a year after they opened. It already looked dirty and it was still relatively new. Everyone was hostile and angry... the gamblers, the people who work there.

It's one of those places where you cannot leave the designated tourist area. You will regret it if you do.

There is nothing to do in AC aside from casinos/beach, and you value your life very cheaply wandering far away from those areas. People have gone just one block from a hotel or whatever and been victims of crimes, or in more than a few cases never seen alive again.

Atlantic City is a heck hole, even Donald Trump couldn't make a go of things down there; the place isn't like Las Vegas where there are tons of things to do outside of the casinos. State of New Jersey has poured billions into "economic redevelopment" for AC, and the place is still largely a crime filled ghetto.

Beach/ocean front is fine; but NJ beaches like rest of north east have a very short season. I mean you aren't going to be sitting out on the beach right now in April.

R7 It was once the only big gambling destination in the Northeast. Then the Indian Casinos opened in CT in the 90s. Then Yonkers Casino and Poconos Casinos in the 2000s. And in the past few years, Upstate NY has opened casinos as well. AC is just an ever-shrinking piece of the pie.

Great movie

R8

True also consider airfares have dropped dramatically in past few decades, thus making it cheaper to fly out to LV which as far more to offer than AC. In fact these days there often many good hotel/airfare deals to LV it almost becomes a no brainer.

Also consider even from say New York or Philly Atlantic City is not easy to reach. If you are like Samantha from SATC and have access to private jet you can fly from NYC, LI or Philly. For everyone else it is either bus, drive themselves, car service or train. The latter doesn't offer direct nor particularly fast travel.
