Maxine has been in this movie before. I'm a former Congressional staffer to someone who is no longer in Congress. He retired a while ago. But Maxine was elected to Congress in 1990, and even then, as a Black woman in Congress she had to fight to get what she needed to do her job. She came from the California State Assembly and she succeeded Gus Hawkins who was a highly revered, respected member.

I looked her up on Wiki to refresh my memory. She was the 5th of 13 children of a single mother and she worked in a garment factory and as a telephone operator. No silver spoons there. She hooked up with Project Head Start as an assistant teacher and decided to go to school and get her degree in Sociology. She's 80 this year. She's tough, she has grit, and yes, she is a loudmouth. But she isn't wrong.

She often goes too far with her comments drawing attention to herself, putting on a show, and it is usually because she wants something for her district or herself from the House leadership, and believe me she treats everyone the same behind close doors. She will yell at Pelosi or Ryan and be a "very difficult woman" until she exacts her price.

She has never changed. The habits she acquired in the CA state assembly are the same ones she uses in D.C. I often got exasperated with her. There were times when she was not a team player and would not shut her damned mouth even though she was told that they were doing a different strategy and needed her cooperation.

In some ways, in that regard, she is sort of like Bernie. But not. Maxine is practical. But right now, I feel like she is my hero, and I'm real disgusted that Schumer and Pelosi publicly criticized her. Although, it could have been theatre. She definitely would not want to have a negative effect on the Mid Terms. But she's not wrong.
