Joanna Cassidy

What do we know about this lovely lady? She was wonderful on SIX FEET UNDER.

Also great in Don't Tell Mom The Babysitter's Dead.

by Anonymousreply 1June 28, 2018 3:53 PM

She’s still gorgeous, and she was one of the most beautiful actresses of the 70s and 80s. I was always surprised she didn’t have a bigger career. Loved her in ‘Buffalo Bill’. She was married to a hipster doctor in the 1960s and hung out with all the groovy people like Janis Joplin.

by Anonymousreply 2June 28, 2018 3:55 PM

"I'm right on top of that Rose!"

by Anonymousreply 3June 28, 2018 4:02 PM

she's great in Hollywood Wives

by Anonymousreply 4June 28, 2018 4:02 PM

Her pussy stinks.

by Anonymousreply 5June 28, 2018 4:05 PM

It's funny there's a thread about her, as I've been watching all the seasons of SFU On Demand, lately. She is great as the narcissistic, neurotic, shrink mother of Brenda and Jeremy. No wonder they're so screwed up. Great series!

by Anonymousreply 6June 28, 2018 4:08 PM

That's DL Fave Joanna Cassidy to you OP.

Her Zhora from Blade Runner is a GAY ICON.

by Anonymousreply 7June 28, 2018 4:15 PM

I have been confusing her with Holland Taylor ever since the Sarah Paulson relationship started. Thanks for clearing that up. They are similar types.

by Anonymousreply 8June 28, 2018 4:35 PM

You are not the only one [R8]! They look like sisters. Joanna also auditioned for the role of Charlie Sheen's mom on Two and a Half Men!

by Anonymousreply 9June 28, 2018 4:43 PM

For r7:

R7 I was just going to say that! Joanna Cassidy in Blade Runner is an ICON.

by Anonymousreply 11June 28, 2018 4:45 PM

Interesting! They are celebrity doppelgangers.

by Anonymousreply 12June 28, 2018 4:46 PM

Interestingly enough - they just interacted on Twitter today because someone suggested they should play sisters.

Let's get them BOTH on AHS.

by Anonymousreply 14June 28, 2018 4:58 PM

She deserved an Emmy for playing crazy Margaret Chenowith on Six Feet Under. What a fantastic performance.

And let's talk about Ms Cassidy in The Late Show with Lily Tomlin and Art Carney. Great movie!

by Anonymousreply 16June 28, 2018 5:10 PM

She plays a similar out-of-touch mother character on "Odd Mom Out" on Bravo, and as in everything else she does, she practically steals the show.

by Anonymousreply 17June 28, 2018 5:14 PM

I used to mix her up with Mary Frann who was on the Newhart show

by Anonymousreply 18June 28, 2018 5:23 PM

She had a lush, Julie London-like beauty.

by Anonymousreply 19June 28, 2018 5:30 PM

Met her in the 6FU years and found her to be somewhat chilly.

I've heard she's a lesbian, but have no idea if it's true.

by Anonymousreply 20June 28, 2018 5:43 PM

You should have offered her your wrap, r20.

by Anonymousreply 21June 28, 2018 5:53 PM

According to Wikipedia she was married for 10 years to a (male) doctor. They divorced in 1974 and there's nothing further about her personal life.

by Anonymousreply 22June 28, 2018 6:11 PM

Well, of course, I'd be the kid sister.

by Anonymousreply 23June 28, 2018 6:14 PM

I am always distracted by her strange skin tone. Kind of reddish/brownish/ruddy/sun damaged even when she was young.

by Anonymousreply 24June 28, 2018 6:18 PM

R16 - The Late Show is one of my all-time favorites!

Great actress, beautiful woman. Always makes her characters more interesting. Loved her in Who Framed Roger Rabbit?

Pauline Kael was an admirer; thought she had a great womanly quality. A real dame.

by Anonymousreply 33June 29, 2018 1:37 AM

How anyone could mix her up with Linda Gray or Holland Taylor is weird. She was a great big beautiful amazon of a woman - sexy and straightforward. Nothing dithering or falsely feminine or passive aggressive about her presence. I think Johnny Carson dated her briefly between wives. She's totally his type. One of them. Super cool chick and a Hot bitch. Great laugh. Good Actress. Not too smart.

by Anonymousreply 34June 29, 2018 1:45 AM

R15, the Tranquility Spa scene really is her best scene in the series, and that’s a high compliment considering nearly every scene she had was entertaining.

by Anonymousreply 35June 29, 2018 1:54 AM

She’s fabulous on Odd Mom Out.

by Anonymousreply 36June 29, 2018 6:13 AM

She really has range! Iconic as futuristic robot hooker Zhora from Blade Runner and sweet but tough broad 1940s wife Dolores in Who Framed Roger Rabbit.

by Anonymousreply 37June 29, 2018 5:11 PM

R34, she always seems intelligent on the screen to me. Almost cunning. One of her best attributes.

by Anonymousreply 38June 29, 2018 6:22 PM

Her dad was Monte Hall of the original Let's Make a Deal.

by Anonymousreply 39June 29, 2018 7:33 PM

[R39] No Girl, You are thinking of Joanna Gleason!

My younger heterosexual brother says she is the inspiration for his preference for older women. He was about twelve when he saw her showed her boobies in Blade Runner.

by Anonymousreply 41June 29, 2018 8:01 PM

She's no Joanna Barnes.

by Anonymousreply 42June 29, 2018 10:21 PM

"the Tranquility Spa scene really is her best scene in the series."

No, her best scene is at her husband's funeral, when she tells her brother-in-law (who just delivered the eulogy): "You said what you had to say, now get the fuck out of here."

She looks like Candice Bergen's prettier, feminine-looking sister in OP's pic. I saw Ms Bergen in some ghastly movie last week and she looks like a butch old man with a bad haircut now.

by Anonymousreply 50May 22, 2020 6:57 AM

Since we're sharing, she reminds me of Joanna Kerns. The hair, the name, but I'd never confuse them.

She was my grandma on Six Feet Under.
