World Cup 2018 Thread 2

Thread 1 closed. Continue your footie talk here.

by Anonymousreply 602June 30, 2018 6:55 PM

For the question about Mexico advancing. They only need 1 more point (a draw) to win the group and advance.

Currently Mexico has 6 points, Germany and Sweden 3 and South Korea 0. With one game left for each team, the max points each team can achieve is MX (9), Ger/Swe (6) and SK (3). As you can see, if Mexico draws, they would have 7 points and no other team can reach that total no matter what.

by Anonymousreply 1June 24, 2018 12:42 AM

I'm glad that Sweden actually uses all Swedish players. Germany imports a large part of their team.

by Anonymousreply 2June 24, 2018 2:06 AM

Adorable video of the Belgian team in a hotel room. Featuring Edens sexy feet and legs. And casual homoerotic bonding between Eden and Benteke

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 3June 24, 2018 2:13 AM

Didn't realize Benteke and Hazard were that close. It's funny how Hazard was pretty comfy sticking his toes in everyone's face. He was told off for it and complied by covering his legs with the blanket. Romelu and de Bruyne are in the video but I do not recognize the clean-shaven head guy.

by Anonymousreply 4June 24, 2018 3:32 AM

Panama is officially the worst team in the World Cup as they're already down 2-0 to England in the first half. Make that 3-0...

by Anonymousreply 5June 24, 2018 12:36 PM

4-0 and not even 40 minutes yet smh.

by Anonymousreply 6June 24, 2018 12:40 PM

4-0 now

by Anonymousreply 7June 24, 2018 12:40 PM

Okay, now 4-0...Looking forward to Japan-Senegal.

by Anonymousreply 8June 24, 2018 12:40 PM

From previous thread:

I don't know if Neuer is really gay or not, he's the only one who really knows his truth. I heard he married his girlfriend last year and the reason why many people believe him to be gay is due to a failure in translation. It seems he made some comments where he showed his support towards gay players that, when translated wrongly from German, led non-speaking-German people to believe he was referring to himself. (This error led some Mexican fans to show their prejudice and make some homophobic remarks every time he had his hands on the ball, which, ultimately, granted them a well-deserved fine!) I guess we can say for sure that he's gay-friendly.

Joachim Löw is gross, but he's also very funny! (lol) And an excellent and seasoned coach; personally, I heard he's very kind! I guess he has some kind of OCD that only gets worse under stress.

R5

Is Mick Jagger in the arena? I haven't seen him, yet. Well, England is winning, so I guess he isn't! (lol)

by Anonymousreply 9June 24, 2018 12:41 PM

England will win this 8-0 ugh.

by Anonymousreply 10June 24, 2018 12:43 PM

I'd love me some Harry Kane.

by Anonymousreply 11June 24, 2018 12:47 PM

Kane is now up with Ronaldo and Lukaku as leading scorer.

by Anonymousreply 12June 24, 2018 12:48 PM

The English coach should spare his best players after the break. It's unlikely Panama will tie the game.

by Anonymousreply 13June 24, 2018 12:51 PM

This will only make England's inevitable exit from the round of 16 or 8 more satisfying.

by Anonymousreply 14June 24, 2018 12:57 PM

5 nil and only half time. Poor Panama. Sheep to the slaughter.

by Anonymousreply 15June 24, 2018 1:00 PM

England gave their worst ever World Cup performance in 2014 (didn't win a single game), so this must be a hell of a boost for them, even though Panama aren't exactly hard to beat.

by Anonymousreply 16June 24, 2018 1:30 PM

Aww I'm happy for Panama and the Panamanian fans. At least they got one goal to celebrate!

by Anonymousreply 17June 24, 2018 1:36 PM

Has Kane been considered a superstar before the Cup?

by Anonymousreply 18June 24, 2018 1:40 PM

I hate England fans even more than I hate Harry Kane. Twitter is ruined for the day.

by Anonymousreply 19June 24, 2018 1:44 PM

R14 exactly. I am embarassed the americans were not able to qualify over Panama ,smh.

by Anonymousreply 20June 24, 2018 1:48 PM

R18, yes. He’s one of the big reasons England dared to hope that it might do well.

by Anonymousreply 21June 24, 2018 1:50 PM

Well done, England!

Congratulations to Panama for their first WC and their first goal! Be happy, it's not easy to win over England; after all, these guys invented football as we know it today. England is held by the force of tradition.

by Anonymousreply 22June 24, 2018 1:55 PM

Next up Japan vs. Senegal at Ekaterinburg Arena, current temp 24C.

by Anonymousreply 23June 24, 2018 2:03 PM

Random curiosity: there are people referring to Germany x Sweden yesterday as "The Battle Of Sóchi"!

by Anonymousreply 24June 24, 2018 2:11 PM

Bonzai!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

by Anonymousreply 25June 24, 2018 3:02 PM

Germany will face Brazil in the round of 16. Brazil will be able to get revenge!

by Anonymousreply 26June 24, 2018 3:31 PM

there is a lot of drumming in this game. my gawd. at least it's better sounding than the vuvuzule

by Anonymousreply 27June 24, 2018 3:32 PM

Congrats to England, and to Kane and Stones! This Japan / Senegal match is not thrilling me. Looks like 1 apiece heading into the half.

It's amazing and good for the game, I suppose, that there haven't been any "nil -nil" draws so far in group play.

by Anonymousreply 28June 24, 2018 3:43 PM

J'adore the Senegal manager!

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 29June 24, 2018 3:47 PM

Okay, so that Senegal goal was exciting from a young player, and now the match is more interesting.

by Anonymousreply 30June 24, 2018 4:29 PM

Ouch! It hurts just to look at it!!!

by Anonymousreply 32June 24, 2018 7:30 PM

My dear James was so cute hugging Falcao.

by Anonymousreply 33June 24, 2018 7:30 PM

Falcao is pretty hot !

Colombia fans are definitely rank as one of the most passionate! They are just fucking crazy in a good way ...

by Anonymousreply 34June 24, 2018 7:51 PM

Did anyone catch that almost goal some minutes ago? I swear the ball was like 10 cm from going in. And yes, it would have been a goal for Colombia had it gone in.

by Anonymousreply 35June 24, 2018 7:54 PM

The Japan-Senegal game was fantastic. Watched with friends over brunch along with other football fans and it was a lot of fun.

by Anonymousreply 36June 25, 2018 1:47 AM

The World Cup is my favorite sports event--much more than the Superbowl and even the Olympics, it's the one event where you feel connected to the world.

by Anonymousreply 37June 25, 2018 1:49 AM

R37

FIFA may have been corrupted by greed, but it has more affiliates than the UN and COI!

by Anonymousreply 38June 25, 2018 12:04 PM

Just read an interesting article in the New Yorker surveying recent books about soccer and its current state, as well as history.

I learned that the FA in England not only did not join FIFA at its founding, but banned English teams from competing in Europe and did not even try to qualify for the first World Cup. England, where "soccer" was born, felt that Continental leagues were damaging the game with their unorthodox play and emphasis on individual stars.

How times change.

by Anonymousreply 39June 25, 2018 12:40 PM

Suarez just scored for Uruguay.

by Anonymousreply 40June 25, 2018 2:10 PM

I can't stand Suarez but would love to see Russia brought down to earth. First decent team they have played and they're 1 down in 10 minutes. Hopefully after Uruguay scores 3 or 4, Suarez will be famished and bite someone. Russia loses, Suarez banished from football for another year, that's a good game for me.

by Anonymousreply 41June 25, 2018 2:15 PM

Uruguay is gay friendly. Russia is a gay hating country. Yep. hard to choose which country to root for here, lol.

by Anonymousreply 42June 25, 2018 2:18 PM

YAAAAAS! Another goal for Uruguay!

by Anonymousreply 43June 25, 2018 2:23 PM

Haha, it's happening, 2-0.

by Anonymousreply 44June 25, 2018 2:23 PM

You don't need to feel guilty rooting for Uruguay as a gay man. They even have gay marriage now, and the majority of Uruguayans support it. Oh yeah, and as a side note, they legalized weed.

[Quote]Lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) rights in Uruguay are among the most liberal in both South America and the world. Same-sex sexual activity has been legal with an equal age of consent since 1934. Anti-discrimination laws protecting LGBT people have been in place since 2004. Civil unions for same-sex couples have been allowed since 2008 and same-sex marriages since 2013, in accordance with the nation's same-sex marriage law passed in early 2013. Additionally, same-sex couples have been allowed to jointly adopt since 2009 and gays, lesbians and bisexuals are allowed to serve openly in the military.

[Quote]In 2016, Americas Quarterly named Uruguay the most LGBT-friendly country in Latin America, calling the nation "a model for social inclusion in Latin America".

by Anonymousreply 45June 25, 2018 2:29 PM

HOW did Suarez miss that shot? LOL. Should have been 3-0.

by Anonymousreply 46June 25, 2018 2:30 PM

Lol. Uruguay could be up 4-0

by Anonymousreply 47June 25, 2018 2:30 PM

They will be up 4-0 soon as Russia's lost a man to a red card! I love this. Sad Russian faces in the stadium.

by Anonymousreply 48June 25, 2018 2:37 PM

Second yellow to the Russian player which means red. Russia only has 10 players for the rest of the game.

by Anonymousreply 49June 25, 2018 2:37 PM

Russia is imploding here. Really fucking up their chances in the next round

by Anonymousreply 50June 25, 2018 2:38 PM

Russian manager is conceding the game and pulled his best player off the pitch. They are settling for 2nd in the group and resting players for the round of 16.

All I want is a few Uruguayan goals and Suarez to nibble on someone.

by Anonymousreply 51June 25, 2018 2:39 PM

Salah with the goal! I wonder if this will be his last ever game for Egypt?

by Anonymousreply 52June 25, 2018 2:44 PM

I just had a look at the groups and the results so far. This is my best guess of which teams make it to the next round:

Group A: Russia and Uruguay

Group B: Spain and Portugal

Group C: France and Denmark

Group D: Croatia and Nigeria

Group E: Brazil and Serbia

Group F: Germany and Sweden

Group G: England and Belgium

by Anonymousreply 53June 25, 2018 2:47 PM

R53 I agree with almost all of this except I think Argentina will take Nigerias spot

by Anonymousreply 54June 25, 2018 2:52 PM

For fans of humor, satire, and soccer: I highly recommend Roger Bennet and Michael Davies' new book "Encyclopedia Blazertannica (A Suboptimal Guide to America's 'Sport of the Future' Since 1972)." Very informative, and completely irreverent, but in the way of true fans.

Bennett and Davies host "Men in Blazers" on podcast and NBCSN during Premier League season. The network must be happy with them since they've just been given a gig to host a week of MiB shows following US Open Golf coverage next month.

Too bad they don't have a World Cup gig on TV this year.

by Anonymousreply 55June 25, 2018 3:06 PM

Iceland is playing Croatia tomorrow. Iceland doesn't have a chance, can't imagine why they bother. Sad little Iceland didn't make it thru to Round 16.

by Anonymousreply 56June 25, 2018 3:11 PM

r53 Group E: Brazil and Switzerland, not Serbia

by Anonymousreply 57June 25, 2018 3:13 PM

Why are they letting Russia back into the game? Get a grip, Uruguay. You're playing with one more guy, yet this is the best you can do? FFS!

by Anonymousreply 58June 25, 2018 3:31 PM

Finally 3-0.

by Anonymousreply 59June 25, 2018 3:47 PM

Oh lord, Roger Bennett is terrible. I used to work with him, I was so happy when he left.

by Anonymousreply 60June 25, 2018 5:04 PM

So what's the status on these next matches? Is Portugal already through or do they need a result today?

by Anonymousreply 61June 25, 2018 5:29 PM

R61, Portugal and Spain are both through. It's only a matter of who finishes first and second. Their group will play the group with Belgium and England. These two teams are also through and it's only a matter of settling 1st and 2nd. So we know these 4 teams will playing in the round of 16, it's only a matter of permutation.

Portugal and Spain are tied on every tiebreaker down to fair play points. Spain has one fewer yellow card. If the teams get the same exact result today including yellow cards--Spain would finish first.

by Anonymousreply 62June 25, 2018 5:35 PM

Oops, pardon the part about Spain/Portugal meeting England/Belgium. The group they play is Uruguay/Russia. Since Uruguay won their group, I'm sure Spain and Portugal will do everything possible today to win and win big so they can top their group and play Russia. Uruguay is obviously tougher competition.

by Anonymousreply 63June 25, 2018 5:41 PM

R63 in that case... Go Portugal!

by Anonymousreply 64June 25, 2018 5:43 PM

R62, that is the likely outcome (Spain and Portugal both through) but not certain, I think. Iran has a shot if they were to draw or beat Portugal depending on the unlikely result that Morocco beats or draws Spain, or something.

That's why some these last group games can be dramatic, and why they play simultaneously in each group.

by Anonymousreply 65June 25, 2018 5:48 PM

So can any Portugal player other than Ronaldo score against Iran?

by Anonymousreply 66June 25, 2018 5:55 PM

R65, you're right, I forgot Portugal and Spain only have 4 points each as they drew their first game against each other. I thought they were on 6 points.

Iran must win because if they draw against Portugal, the latter would advance because on 5 points while Iran would only have 4 points. If Spain loses, they would only have 4 points. Iran, if they finish on 4 points, would have to pray Morocco beats Spain by 2 or more goals. And that's because currently Spain has a better goal difference than Morocco. And they have also scored more goals, which is 2nd tiebreaker.

It's complicated! But let's just say Portugal and Spain have enough error room where drawing their games works for them. Iran has a tiny chance with a draw and hope Spain loses. Iran of course, would advance if they win.

I apologize for saying Portugal and Spain are through! I totally forgot their draw and that Iran won their game against Morocco.

by Anonymousreply 67June 25, 2018 6:02 PM

Spain v Morroco on Fox1 sports. Same time as Portugal - on Fox. I guess Ronaldo rules.

by Anonymousreply 68June 25, 2018 6:03 PM

Ronaldo is hungry today!

by Anonymousreply 69June 25, 2018 6:04 PM

I usually would watch Spain over Portugal but the latter's game has more at stake. Spain are playing a team who have already been eliminated.

by Anonymousreply 70June 25, 2018 6:05 PM

Is there anyone more beautiful than Manuel Neuer

by Anonymousreply 71June 25, 2018 6:10 PM

Iranian keeper and defender start fighting each over miscommunication. Lost in that is that the Portugal skyed the chance to score in a wide open goal!

by Anonymousreply 72June 25, 2018 6:10 PM

Morroco just scored on Spain!

by Anonymousreply 73June 25, 2018 6:17 PM

R70 but yet Morroco leads!!!

by Anonymousreply 74June 25, 2018 6:18 PM

2 games with hot men on ay the same time! Are you checking out pique on the Spanish team after seeing his hard on on the other thread?

by Anonymousreply 75June 25, 2018 6:21 PM

Spain just leveled. Wtf, they better wake the hell up. A draw works but they better make sure and not let Morocco even sniff a win.

by Anonymousreply 76June 25, 2018 6:22 PM

The reason final group matches are played simultaneously

Algeria: Victims of their own success It was completely the result of their own overachievement that Algeria were the victim of one of the great frauds in World Cup history. Having defeated the mighty Germans in their opening game, Algeria then lost to Austria. They rallied in their final game, getting a win against Chile. With four points (wins were only awarded two points at that point), they still needed help in the West Germany-Austria game. Namely, they needed either a West Germany loss/draw, or an Austrian loss by more than two goals.

In the end, they got neither, and it meant elimination. West Germany’s Horst Hrubesch scored in the 12th minute, and the Austrians “failed” to get a goal, meaning a 1-0 result carried both teams through. Immediately after scoring, however, it became clear that there was something sinister at work. Both sides chose to continuously pass along their own defensive lines, spraying only the sporadic long ball harmlessly into the opposing side’s half.

It was noticeable particularly because the West Germans had attacked to vigorously prior to their early goal. That they now hung back was obvious, even the German commentator recognized the terrible tragedy.

“What is happening here is disgraceful and has nothing to do with football,” Eberhard Stanjek told his listeners. “You can say what you like, but not every end justifies the means.”

Austria’s commentator agreed, telling his audience to turn their sets off, and refusing to speak for the last 30 minutes of the game.

Algerian fans in attendance waived money at the players as they left the field. Neutral Spanish fans (the World Cup was held in Spain in 1982) were stunned at what they had just seen.

And Portugal v Iran remains nil /nil... These dramas are why I love soccer tournaments, and why I'm glad I can work from home some days.

by Anonymousreply 78June 25, 2018 6:25 PM

Portugal started out fast that they slowed down a lot. Iran looks most likely to score next TBH

by Anonymousreply 79June 25, 2018 6:40 PM

What a pretty goal!

by Anonymousreply 80June 25, 2018 6:46 PM

Portugal scored, a sensational strike by Quaresma. Spain better be going for their 2nd or else they may end up playing Uruguay.

by Anonymousreply 81June 25, 2018 6:47 PM

Too bad for Iran conceding that late first half goal. They were keeping it interesting.

by Anonymousreply 82June 25, 2018 6:47 PM

Jesus, a Portuguese player who wasn't Ronaldo scored

by Anonymousreply 83June 25, 2018 6:48 PM

Yeah Quaresma. He's Gipsy

by Anonymousreply 84June 25, 2018 6:52 PM

Penalty or a flop by Ronaldo?

by Anonymousreply 85June 25, 2018 7:10 PM

VAR says penalty.

by Anonymousreply 86June 25, 2018 7:11 PM

Well now Ronnie and Messi have something in common this World Cup.

by Anonymousreply 87June 25, 2018 7:12 PM

VAR has been a great addition

by Anonymousreply 88June 25, 2018 7:13 PM

Iran better keep their cool. They can't afford to go down a man or two when they need at least two goals.

by Anonymousreply 89June 25, 2018 7:13 PM

Reynaldo will be pissed at himself. I think he'll get a goal within the next 5 minutes

by Anonymousreply 90June 25, 2018 7:14 PM

Yes, but how does Ronaldo feel?

by Anonymousreply 91June 25, 2018 7:22 PM

That should have been a red for dangerous play. It was obvious what Quaresma was going for.

by Anonymousreply 92June 25, 2018 7:23 PM

Neck tats are so nasty

by Anonymousreply 93June 25, 2018 7:23 PM

R91 lol. I was using voice to text. Surprised it messed that up

by Anonymousreply 94June 25, 2018 7:29 PM

Ronaldo, other than winning the pen, has been a bit crap. His passing in particular.

by Anonymousreply 95June 25, 2018 7:36 PM

R56

Iceland rocks!!! If you have any doubts just ask Led Zeppelin. They may not have big chances but they will fight till the end; they play for love of the game.

R95

That penalty wasn't convincing. VAR said it was indeed a penalty, but karma made CR7 lose it!

P.S.: The narrator said "CR7 didn't miss his 5 last penalties." and I thought "Dude, you just can't say this!". And... CR7 missed it!!! (lol)

by Anonymousreply 96June 25, 2018 7:41 PM

That would have been a pretty weak red card in my book

by Anonymousreply 97June 25, 2018 7:43 PM

Spain is infuriating. They should be so good and yet now they are losing to Morocco.

Ronaldo was lucky to only get a yellow.

by Anonymousreply 98June 25, 2018 7:43 PM

Controversy! And Morocco is ahead of Spain on the other channel.

by Anonymousreply 99June 25, 2018 7:44 PM

Kinda want Iran to draw so it will be iran and portugal going through

by Anonymousreply 100June 25, 2018 7:46 PM

R100, Spain would still advance. They would have to concede a 3rd goal for Iran to go through.

by Anonymousreply 101June 25, 2018 7:47 PM

David Silva looks terrible and almost thuggish with the shaved head. Not a good look on him.

by Anonymousreply 102June 25, 2018 7:49 PM

R101 damn

by Anonymousreply 103June 25, 2018 7:49 PM

VAR is a bit much in this match

by Anonymousreply 104June 25, 2018 7:50 PM

Yeah, this is where VAR is too intrusive. That penalty call is too iffy. I only want VAR to be used when an obvious call has been blowen. Otherwise, the game is too interrupted far too much.

by Anonymousreply 105June 25, 2018 7:52 PM

R104

The referee has the final word, so he's the bitch.

And Iran scores! Boi, this group is a mess!!!

by Anonymousreply 106June 25, 2018 7:52 PM

Damn, fortunes have reversed. Spain scored and they lead the group and Portugal are 2nd. And if Iran scores again, Portugal are out! And they came so close!

by Anonymousreply 107June 25, 2018 7:54 PM

Shit! That was close!

by Anonymousreply 108June 25, 2018 7:54 PM

Andres Silva looks like a porn star. It's the 'stache.

by Anonymousreply 109June 25, 2018 7:54 PM

Very exciting today. Nicely done by all four teams, really.

by Anonymousreply 110June 25, 2018 7:56 PM

Spain and Portugal started really well the world championship but they are on their way down. I would say they will be eliminated soon but the truth is most favourites are not looking better and the onew that are doing better (Croatia, Belgium) have a tendency to lose when they are near to achieve a good result

by Anonymousreply 111June 25, 2018 7:57 PM

World Cup drama is the best. Imagine when it gets to the knockouts and the dreaded penalty kicks come into play.

by Anonymousreply 112June 25, 2018 7:58 PM

Whew. I'm glad the World Cup only comes every 4 years. I don't think I could handle it much more than that

by Anonymousreply 113June 25, 2018 7:58 PM

It feels like the Cup is wide open. No one has looked unbeatable so far and every team advancing has had moments of brilliance

by Anonymousreply 114June 25, 2018 7:59 PM

I can't watch Fox's half-time and post-game shows because I can't stand Alexi Lalas.

by Anonymousreply 115June 25, 2018 8:00 PM

R115 he really is a smug asshole

by Anonymousreply 116June 25, 2018 8:00 PM

I agree, it's a very wide-open tournament.

by Anonymousreply 117June 25, 2018 8:00 PM

Congratulations Uruguay, Russia, Spain and Portugal!

Goodbye to Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Iran and Morocco! See you again in 4 years in Qatar!!!

by Anonymousreply 118June 25, 2018 8:06 PM

Amazing that two draws, in a stage where there's no overtime and no penalty-kick post-overtime, can be so dramatic and exciting. l loved watching that happen

I also dislike Alexi Lalas a lot and kind of wish equally smug Kyle Martino was there instead.

by Anonymousreply 119June 25, 2018 8:06 PM

Lalas was a shit player and upon retirement has forced himself on tv viewers. Kind of makes me wish he would go back to playing.

by Anonymousreply 120June 25, 2018 8:09 PM

The last few minutes of those Group B games were so intense

by Anonymousreply 121June 25, 2018 8:09 PM

I'd be happy to console a few of the Iranian players

by Anonymousreply 122June 25, 2018 8:10 PM

Everything got decided in a matter of two to three minutes for Gp B . It's been an exciting group phase. I can't recall one quite like this.

Agree about Lalas. He could single-handedly ruin ESPN's commentary and they had really good crews put together.

by Anonymousreply 123June 25, 2018 8:11 PM

R120 can’t fox get those balding guys howard or donovan?

by Anonymousreply 124June 25, 2018 8:17 PM

[quote]See you again in 4 years in Qatar!!!

Well, 4 and a half, really, right? They have to play in December in Qatar because of dangerous desert heat. Screwing up league schedules all over the world, pretty much.

But yes. I hope some of these underdog teams keep progressing and taking the power nations on.

by Anonymousreply 125June 25, 2018 8:19 PM

R125

Exactly! If the Cup were to be played at this same period in 2022, it would be unfair for most teams, especially those from the far North.

by Anonymousreply 126June 25, 2018 8:23 PM

If they're going award Qatar a Cup, should Singapore submit a proposal for 2032?

by Anonymousreply 127June 25, 2018 8:24 PM

R125

P.S.: We can relate to the underdogs, that's why we love them!!!

R127

I've never been to Singapore, but it seems to be a great place. However, I believe Singapore should apply to co-host the Cup.

They just showed Mo Salah's post match interview. Humble and sweet. I have to say, I love that guy and hope he's back with Egypt for more international play.

Meanwhile, I will probably order more Liverpool gear because I was already a fan before Salah, and will look forward to the start of the EPL season in a couple of months. I have a scarf and a coffee mug. Maybe it's time for a jersey.

by Anonymousreply 129June 25, 2018 8:46 PM

Whoever gets to play Russia next is lucky af. Russia was so weak today against Uruguay.

by Anonymousreply 130June 25, 2018 9:08 PM

Yeah, but Spain will find a way to concede a goal or two. They look great going forward but their defense is leaky. Kind of old school Spain, not tiki taka Spain. TT Spain would monopolize possession--the opponent can't attack if they don't have the ball. I still expect Spain to beat Russia but nothing would shock me.

by Anonymousreply 131June 25, 2018 9:22 PM

Where's the gossip? Who are these players fucking in their off days? The Brazil World Cup was full of such stories.

by Anonymousreply 132June 25, 2018 9:52 PM

R132, the Mexican team apparently is pretty lively . . .

by Anonymousreply 133June 25, 2018 10:23 PM

Maybe players wanna steer clear of russian sluts and hookers.

by Anonymousreply 134June 25, 2018 11:11 PM

R129, are you a new lfc fan? No jerseys?

by Anonymousreply 135June 25, 2018 11:41 PM

Well, many players have their families with them and are probably fucking their wives and hookers if they can

by Anonymousreply 136June 25, 2018 11:43 PM

Some coaches demand celibacy both before and during the World Cup.

by Anonymousreply 137June 26, 2018 12:00 AM

R60, can you provide more details?? Roger Bennett seems to be one of the good guys, can't imagine him being an asshole!

by Anonymousreply 138June 26, 2018 12:22 AM

[R2], every single member of the German team was born in Germany. Some may play professionally for teams outside Germany, like Barcelona, for example, but they were still all born in Germany and therefore not "imported" as you stated. Just for the record.

by Anonymousreply 139June 26, 2018 12:38 AM

We all know what R2 was insinuating.

by Anonymousreply 140June 26, 2018 2:18 AM

Kinda cool that the Spanish Federation flew the Women's National Team into Russia to watch the games and be ambassadors for the Federation. They just qualified for the Women's World Cup, hopefully the men will return the favor

by Anonymousreply 141June 26, 2018 2:50 AM

Wow did you see zlatan ‘s espn body pics? In the body issue? He’s got tats on his butt! Sorry I’m on mobile and can’t post pics

Next up Denmark vs. France from Luzhniki Stadium, current temp 25C

by Anonymousreply 147June 26, 2018 1:41 PM

Apparently that was Peru's first World Cup goal in 36 years.

by Anonymousreply 148June 26, 2018 2:33 PM

Not the drama of yesterday...so far. Hopefully we'll see a few good goals today.

by Anonymousreply 149June 26, 2018 2:46 PM

Half time nil nil France vs. Denmark. Yellow card to Jorgensen.

by Anonymousreply 150June 26, 2018 2:49 PM

I'm stuck at work... How has France been looking this tournament?

by Anonymousreply 151June 26, 2018 3:16 PM

France has been fine--they have as good chance to go as any other of the teams. We haven't seen any world beaters. Yet.

This game is lame as 0-0 works for both teams. They're not really going to break a sweat. There's whistling in the stadium--they know the teams can't be bothered.

by Anonymousreply 152June 26, 2018 3:27 PM

I've switched over to Aus-Per. More has happened in 6 minutes of this game than the 80 minutes for Fra-Den. Knew I should have stuck with Telemundo.

Warming up for Iceland vs Nigeria!!! Right now, Iceland is in the third place in their group (Argentina is in the fourth - and last - place)! (lol)

I can almost see the Pope, back at the Vatican, watching the game, lighting many candles and praying for a miracle (he's a famous football enthusiast and a supporter of San Lorenzo, just like actor Viggo Mortensen). I like him but, unfortunately, I believe his efforts are going to be fruitless.

by Anonymousreply 157June 26, 2018 6:11 PM

Messi finally scored! It's a miracle!

by Anonymousreply 158June 26, 2018 6:15 PM

R158

Finally! It seems the Pope is one with the Force and the Force is with him!!! (lol)

by Anonymousreply 159June 26, 2018 6:20 PM

Purely because I want to see one of the greatest players in history continue to play in the World Cup, I'm okay with Argentina winning. But honestly, as a team, I'd rather Nigeria advance. Unfortunately, in this game, only one of them can advance.

by Anonymousreply 160June 26, 2018 6:22 PM

Damn. I kind of knew Argentina would go through but I really wanted Iceland or Nigeria.

by Anonymousreply 161June 26, 2018 6:38 PM

R161 It's not over yet.

by Anonymousreply 162June 26, 2018 6:42 PM

Nigeria only need a draw so yes, it's not in the bag for Argentina yet.

So who picked the Argentine team? Is Sampaolo on the sideline just for show?

by Anonymousreply 163June 26, 2018 6:43 PM

Is Maradona falling asleep? WTF?! LOL

by Anonymousreply 164June 26, 2018 6:46 PM

Wow, didn't realize but if Iceland score one and win against Croatia, they go ahead. Argentina would be out on goal difference. And Croatia are playing their reserve players. If Iceland win 1-0 and Argentina would have to win by 2-0.

Nigeria get a penalty!

by Anonymousreply 165June 26, 2018 7:07 PM

That's a soft call. Sorry, there would be 20 penalties every game if that is called.

Nigeria scores! Argentina in danger, gurl!

by Anonymousreply 166June 26, 2018 7:09 PM

Messi may or may not have had intervention from the Vatican, but if ARG makes it through and performs, that goal he scored is probably one of the best of the tournament.

Anyone watching the late nite show on Fox? They have added the Brit morning host Kate Abdo to the panel, kind of as host last night. Planned, or was Fernando not getting it done hosting himself?

And now it's even, while I typed. Fuck.

by Anonymousreply 167June 26, 2018 7:11 PM

Well, slightly good news for Argentina, Iceland are down 1-0. But that doesn't mean jack if Argentina doesn't score again. Nigeria with the upper hand..or foot right now.

by Anonymousreply 168June 26, 2018 7:14 PM

Ooooh, it's exciting!

by Anonymousreply 169June 26, 2018 7:15 PM

Bye bye Argentina!

by Anonymousreply 170June 26, 2018 7:15 PM

Yes, more drama for this group than this morning. What a pile of garbage France/Denmark was.

Bring on Aguero for Higuain. He's done nothing. Watch him score now...

by Anonymousreply 171June 26, 2018 7:17 PM

Pavon comes on for Argentina and he gets instructions from someone on the bench rather than from Sampaolo.

by Anonymousreply 172June 26, 2018 7:19 PM

Can't believe Argentina need a goal and Aguero is still on the bench. I guess Kun isn't in the Messi Like Club.

by Anonymousreply 173June 26, 2018 7:37 PM

I wouldn't have left Huguain in--he's out of gas. And he just skyed a fantastic chance. Couldn't even troubled the keeper.

by Anonymousreply 174June 26, 2018 7:39 PM

Did you see maradona? There is a guy in charge of holding on to him, making sure he doesn’t fall. What a job, eh?

by Anonymousreply 175June 26, 2018 7:39 PM

Do you think that was a hand ball?

by Anonymousreply 176June 26, 2018 7:41 PM

If Argentina doesn't win this, it will be a day or two national mourning, right?

And if so, good for Nigeria.

by Anonymousreply 177June 26, 2018 7:42 PM

Iceland scored!!! It's a tie!

by Anonymousreply 178June 26, 2018 7:43 PM

Poor Dybala, not even on the pitch

by Anonymousreply 179June 26, 2018 7:44 PM

It would have been a soft call. I hate VAR determining every single iffy call. I think it should change a call that is completely wrong. The ball went from head to hand. Should the defender have had his hand in that position? Questionable and I don't you give it for that.

by Anonymousreply 180June 26, 2018 7:45 PM

Fuck! Argentina scored

by Anonymousreply 181June 26, 2018 7:45 PM

NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

by Anonymousreply 182June 26, 2018 7:45 PM

All of Argentina thank fuck that was Rojo in the position to score and not Gonzalo Huguain. GH is a known choke-job. Plenty of time for Nigeria...

by Anonymousreply 183June 26, 2018 7:46 PM

It was a nice goal.

by Anonymousreply 184June 26, 2018 7:47 PM

Why didn’t camera show maradona? I wanted to see his reaction lol

by Anonymousreply 185June 26, 2018 7:47 PM

They did his reaction--in tears as usual and kissing/hugging a guy.

by Anonymousreply 186June 26, 2018 7:49 PM

Damn. Croatia and Argemtina. Just as expected. At least The Underdogs made it interesting

by Anonymousreply 187June 26, 2018 7:50 PM

If Iceland score again...Argentina would be sunk...

by Anonymousreply 188June 26, 2018 7:50 PM

Another goal from Croatia! Can't believe the number of late goals in this World Cup

by Anonymousreply 189June 26, 2018 7:51 PM

Strike that, Iceland are down 2-1...I thought the game was tied.

by Anonymousreply 190June 26, 2018 7:52 PM

Argentina by the skin of their teeth. Late yellow for Messi for time-wasting. Good call.

by Anonymousreply 191June 26, 2018 7:54 PM

Poor Nigeria, I don't know if Argentina deserves this.

Argentine manager walks off immediately. It's obvious the team and he have little to do with each other.

by Anonymousreply 192June 26, 2018 7:54 PM

Argentina's classless manager stalked off the pitch again, not even bothering to shake hands with Nigeria's coach. Even in victory, a true twat.

by Anonymousreply 193June 26, 2018 7:55 PM

It's obvious it's Messi's team with Mascherano as the COO.

by Anonymousreply 194June 26, 2018 7:56 PM

He’s the coach in name only, he’s fired after the WC

by Anonymousreply 195June 26, 2018 7:59 PM

Congratulations to France, Denmark, Croatia and Argentina! (Perhaps, I should reconsider my heathen ways... Nah!!!)

Well done Peru, Australia, Nigeria and Iceland!

Iceland may have already been a hot vacation spot for entitled Americans, Lagertha, but after these three matches it will now be a hot destination for football fans and admirers of hot Vikingish dudes in general, gay and straight. Nicely done.

by Anonymousreply 197June 26, 2018 8:06 PM

Poor Iceland, was rooting for them and also Nigeria

by Anonymousreply 198June 26, 2018 8:07 PM

Argentina did deserve to go through--it's a much better team with Messi coaching it. Both Argentine goals were first-class.

R185, after Rojo's goal, the cameras at FOX flashed to Maradona, and he flashed two middle fingers at someone: the ref, maybe? Never change, dude.

Big scenes on the field after the match, di Maria's eyes were red from crying.

Just SO convinced of his own cleverness, and not a very good writer when all is said and done. Arrogant. But you couldn't say shit about it because he was tight with the suits. I haven't watched his show / podcast / whatever so maybe he comes across as a great guy there!

Lagertha, are you from Iceland? Just curious :)

by Anonymousreply 212June 27, 2018 5:31 AM

R211

Yes! The Viking legacy continues with Denmark, but we already suspected that they would make it, so we focused on Iceland. Supporting Iceland was a "dare to believe" attitude.

R212

Unfortunately, I am not from Iceland, but this Team made us all be proud to be honorary Icelanders. They deserve to have an epic reception back home!!!

I am, however, into Norse Paganism.

by Anonymousreply 213June 27, 2018 11:13 AM

The matches should be great today! All 4 teams in Group F are still alive!

by Anonymousreply 214June 27, 2018 12:30 PM

German v South Korea is going to be a slaughter along the lines of England v. Panama. Sweden v. Mexico might be a tad more exciting.

by Anonymousreply 215June 27, 2018 12:57 PM

SK aren't as bad as Panama so I'm not expecting a 6-0 pasting, but it is a poor vintage for them. I fully expect Germany to win that game. I think Mexico will nab at least a point and win the group.

by Anonymousreply 216June 27, 2018 1:22 PM

Next up Sweden v. Mexico from Ekaterinburg Arena, current temp 27C.

by Anonymousreply 217June 27, 2018 1:48 PM

Chicharito is such a good Catholic boy.

The Swedes are so much taller than Mexico, it makes me nervous. Hold me, Datalounge.

by Anonymousreply 218June 27, 2018 2:01 PM

6 secs into game and Mexico gets a yellow card.

by Anonymousreply 219June 27, 2018 2:02 PM

Courtesy of the Guardian--what each team needs to do in order to advance:

Mexico will qualify with a draw. They also qualify if Germany fail to beat South Korea.

Sweden qualify if they get a better result than Germany.

Germany qualify if they beat South Korea by two goals or more. If Germany and Sweden both draw their games, then the team involved with the higher-scoring draw will go through, alongside Mexico.

South Korea can still go through if they win heavily and Mexico also win.

by Anonymousreply 220June 27, 2018 2:07 PM

Sweden best so far. I think they will win, sadly. I'm still rooting for Mexico though.

by Anonymousreply 221June 27, 2018 2:12 PM

I can't help but notice that poor Özil was not blessed with good looks. Thank Gods he has talent and I hope him to show it today!

P.S.: My mother swoons after Kroos and I'm faithful to Neuer.

by Anonymousreply 222June 27, 2018 2:16 PM

by Anonymousreply 225June 27, 2018 2:26 PM

Neuer almost made a howler at 19'!!!

P.S.: A local-conducted poll chose the following:

Most handsome player: Alisson (Brazil - GK)

Most handsome coach: Aliou Cissé (Senegal)

Most handsome Team: Iceland

by Anonymousreply 226June 27, 2018 2:32 PM

Korea would probably have advanced if they were in a weaker group.

by Anonymousreply 227June 27, 2018 2:44 PM

I'm watching the Mex-Swe game and following the Guardian's minute-by-minute coverage of Ger-SK and this is a telling comment:

38 min: This is abysmal!

Apparently Germany are playing like crap.

by Anonymousreply 228June 27, 2018 2:44 PM

Why has Memo Ochoa had a nothing of a club career? Is he too short (“only” six feet)? Not as good as he seems to be in Cup play?

by Anonymousreply 229June 27, 2018 2:48 PM

R228 korea is getting no respect they probably advance in england ,france or russia’s cupcake groups.

by Anonymousreply 230June 27, 2018 2:49 PM

45 min+1: There will be three more minutes of this nonsense.

Guardian writer is slashing his wrists over at the GER-SK game.

by Anonymousreply 231June 27, 2018 2:50 PM

I've been watching the Mexico Sweden game, which has been entertaining. Glad I didn't decide to watch the German game

by Anonymousreply 232June 27, 2018 2:51 PM

R229, I've only seen him play at WC and he appears to have great reflexes but yes, likely too short to play regularly in the big leagues (Europe). His lack of height would be exploited week in and week out.

by Anonymousreply 233June 27, 2018 2:52 PM

So far nothing has changed for Group F.

All the Teams must receive pep talks now. Let's see if after the break the situation improves!

by Anonymousreply 234June 27, 2018 2:54 PM

Who do you guys think will win the tournament? Germany's meh, Brazil is worse. England fans think "football's coming home" but i very much doubt it. Portugal is supposed to be all Ronaldo but they did win the Euros with him injured ... of course the WC is a bit trickier.

I'd like to see Belgium win, Roberto Martinez is supposed to be one of the nicest guys in the business. My team is Mexico but I won't allow myself to hope yet. Thoughts on Uruguay? Their defense is impressive.

by Anonymousreply 235June 27, 2018 2:58 PM

Belgium and Croatia have been the best teams that I've seen play. But kind of have a feeling that Spain is going to muddle through to the finals

by Anonymousreply 236June 27, 2018 3:01 PM

It's so wide-open because there hasn't been a team that stands out. A number of team look impressive in stretches but will also reveal frailties. The two teams that have romped, are Belgium and England. Since neither are traditional superpowers, people are hesitating to name them as favorites until we see them play a decent side. Which they will do when they meet to determine to who wins the group.

Look at Russia for example. They won impressively and though no one anointed them favorites to win the cup, there was the fleeting thought they were half-way decent after all. Then they played Uruguay and were destroyed. So it's hard to gauge until a team plays another side that can challenge them.

Uruguay will also have a chance because they play pragmatic football and have a fantastic and cohesive defense. Three of their starting 4 defenders play for Atletico Madrid who are the foremost practitioners of pragmatic and stout defense football. And of course they have Suarez and Cavani, the former I hate but is undeniably a great striker. The latter is good but I don't rate him as much as most people. Hopefully the fact Uruguay are nondescript everywhere else will mean they won't be winning anything.

by Anonymousreply 237June 27, 2018 3:10 PM

Que lastima! Sweden 1 Mexico 0

by Anonymousreply 238June 27, 2018 3:10 PM

Sweden scored!!!

by Anonymousreply 239June 27, 2018 3:10 PM

Wow. Would be amazing if Mexico and Sweden both went through

by Anonymousreply 240June 27, 2018 3:10 PM

Germany are fucked. They now have to win and win big to be on the safe side.

Ochoa should have stopped that one.

by Anonymousreply 241June 27, 2018 3:11 PM

I'm sure Germany can get a couple goals in the second half. But as it stands now Germany is eliminated

by Anonymousreply 242June 27, 2018 3:11 PM

Mexico is getting Russianed--coming back to earth. If Germany wins 1-0 and this game remains 2-0, then Mexico would go out on goal difference.

by Anonymousreply 243June 27, 2018 3:23 PM

My poor Ochoa.

by Anonymousreply 244June 27, 2018 3:23 PM

Sweden did it again!!!

Buh-bye, Germany!

by Anonymousreply 245June 27, 2018 3:24 PM

Mexico needs to keep the ball on the floor--they aren't going to win headers against the Swedes.

by Anonymousreply 246June 27, 2018 3:27 PM

Actually, if Germany scored at least one and Mexico scored nothing, Mexico wouldn't go to the next phase.

by Anonymousreply 247June 27, 2018 3:30 PM

[quote]Buh-bye, Germany!

You say that but Germany will just score another world-class goal in the 94th minute and break my fucking heart.

by Anonymousreply 248June 27, 2018 3:30 PM

Sorry to say it, but that's exactly what I was thinking!

Own goal by Mexico . . .

by Anonymousreply 250June 27, 2018 3:33 PM

That's just unfortunate...

If Germanay scores and wins , Mexico is out. Yes, Mexio are out because of Goal Difference. All three teams would have 6 points but Mexico would have the worst GD.

by Anonymousreply 251June 27, 2018 3:34 PM

Sweden again!!!

by Anonymousreply 252June 27, 2018 3:35 PM

Last two goals for sweden have been nothing but luck

by Anonymousreply 253June 27, 2018 3:36 PM

I am wearing two Mexico shirts, a rosary and a mini-sombrero that belongs to my cat. I don't know what else I can do.

by Anonymousreply 254June 27, 2018 3:36 PM

Luck from mexico errors

by Anonymousreply 255June 27, 2018 3:37 PM

Mexico can't win or draw this game but they need to score a goal or two just in case Germany sneaks a 1-0 win against SK.

by Anonymousreply 256June 27, 2018 3:37 PM

R254, I don't know what else you can do either but thank you for making me laugh.

by Anonymousreply 257June 27, 2018 3:38 PM

R254

Right now, I would say 'tequila"!!!

by Anonymousreply 258June 27, 2018 3:39 PM

Oh Vela...

by Anonymousreply 259June 27, 2018 3:40 PM

Abuelitas all over mexico praying for a korea goal!

by Anonymousreply 260June 27, 2018 3:41 PM

So much for my prediction that Germany wouldn't have any problems with SK. Who knew they were so lackluster!

by Anonymousreply 261June 27, 2018 3:41 PM

R261 korea played sweden and mexico tough so not sure why you predicted that

by Anonymousreply 262June 27, 2018 3:42 PM

My husband thinks Mexico is throwing the game, they're such a different team.

by Anonymousreply 263June 27, 2018 3:44 PM

R262, I thought they were triers, but were very uninspired and offered little but scrappiness.

But scrappiness is probably a big factor in a 0-0 game and frustrates the opponent. So yes, I was wrong.

by Anonymousreply 264June 27, 2018 3:44 PM

7 for mexico is a hot daddy

by Anonymousreply 265June 27, 2018 3:44 PM

With so little time left, every Mexican fan has to hope everything remains status quo. Because if Germany scores 1, Mexico needs to score 2. With so little time left, three goals overall ain't going to happen. So it's everything stays the same OR SK scores.

by Anonymousreply 266June 27, 2018 3:45 PM

87 min: Ozil, who’s done nothing, dips inside from the right, on to his left foot, and curls a cross into the middle. Hummels arrives, unmarked, and bounces the ball off his shoulder and behind for a goal-kick! What a chance! Heads are in hands. There are looks of disbelief. That should have been 1-0!

by Anonymousreply 267June 27, 2018 3:47 PM

Korea scored!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

by Anonymousreply 268June 27, 2018 3:50 PM

Called off?

by Anonymousreply 269June 27, 2018 3:51 PM

VAR? what's going?

by Anonymousreply 270June 27, 2018 3:51 PM

Korean goal is GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD!

by Anonymousreply 271June 27, 2018 3:52 PM

Is this the end for the booger eater?

by Anonymousreply 272June 27, 2018 3:53 PM

The Curse of the Champions is real!

by Anonymousreply 273June 27, 2018 3:53 PM

Yes, Low would be gone. There is a shelf life for managers/coaches. Del Bosque won 3 in a row for Spain and he was gone after 2014 when Spain crashed out.

by Anonymousreply 274June 27, 2018 3:54 PM

2-0! I love the World Cup!!

by Anonymousreply 275June 27, 2018 3:55 PM

Mexicans need to send the koreans some hookers tonight?? Lol or something

by Anonymousreply 276June 27, 2018 3:55 PM

Thank you, Our Lady of Guadalupe (and South Korea)!

by Anonymousreply 277June 27, 2018 3:55 PM

R274

I heard his contract was prolonged.

by Anonymousreply 278June 27, 2018 3:56 PM

Koreans have been tough totally stand by my comment that they would have advanced in some of the easier pools.

by Anonymousreply 279June 27, 2018 3:56 PM

Contracts mean nothing when someone needs to go.

Big parties today in Los Angeles!

by Anonymousreply 280June 27, 2018 3:57 PM

R280

I believe there will be bigger celebrations in the streets of Brazil!!! (lol)

by Anonymousreply 281June 27, 2018 3:59 PM

Alles ist vorbei!

by Anonymousreply 282June 27, 2018 4:01 PM

I know Low has huge credit for what he has achieved, but I think Germany has the type of pedigree where they would not accept this result. This is the first time Germany has ever failed to advance out of the group stage. I really think the German FA and Germans will not find this acceptable.

Again, Del Bosque won 3 (Low has 1) major trophies in a row and even he was ousted. Germany has an even more storied history--would they stand pat after this disaster?

by Anonymousreply 283June 27, 2018 4:01 PM

Wow! This is why we watch the World Cup

by Anonymousreply 284June 27, 2018 4:01 PM

R254

Now, drink that "tequila" to celebrate!!!

by Anonymousreply 285June 27, 2018 4:02 PM

by Anonymousreply 286June 27, 2018 4:05 PM

Whoever wins in 2018 should probably prepare to go out in the group stages of 2022! Don't bother booking any hotel rooms after 3 games.

by Anonymousreply 287June 27, 2018 4:05 PM

Another German foray into Russia ends in disaster...

by Anonymousreply 288June 27, 2018 4:08 PM

So disappointed I missed those two games. I got home just in time to see South Korea's second goal. Why have so many defending champions gone out in the first round in recent years? And Germany's different from the others, because they've been so consistent all century:

2002: silver

2006: bronze

2010: bronze

2014: gold

by Anonymousreply 291June 27, 2018 4:16 PM

R289 I’d love to see Brazil lose to Serbia and switzerland win leaving Brazil out

Russian reversal!

In Russia, Germany doesn't win the Cup; the Cup wins Germany.

by Anonymousreply 295June 27, 2018 4:41 PM

So I don't care about this competition but I just stumbled on this clip on Twitter and it intrigues me. Where exactly was the German goalie here?

by Anonymousreply 296June 27, 2018 4:45 PM

R296 had to take a poo break

by Anonymousreply 297June 27, 2018 4:47 PM

R296, when teams need a goal (or 2 in this case) at the end of the game, they bring the keeper forward and hope the extra man will help them score a goal. I have yet to see it succeed. But desperate times call for desperate measures. Usually, you see if for set pieces and corner kicks where the play is stopped and the keeper runs up, usually in the penalty box as another head to aim for (since almost all of them are very tall). In this case, Neuer came up in open play as an outfield player (anyone who's not a keeper). Obviously, it didn't end well.

by Anonymousreply 298June 27, 2018 4:56 PM

r298 Thanks, that makes sense. I really hated being forced to play football back in school (I've zero spatial awareness) so I didn't pay much attention to the intricacies of the game, but I do appreciate the strategy aspect of it now as an adult spectator.

That's the spirit!!!

by Anonymousreply 300June 27, 2018 6:13 PM

Neymar is such a dramatical little bitch

by Anonymousreply 301June 27, 2018 6:36 PM

R301

Indeed!

I heard through the grapevine an interesting tidbit (sorry, it's not sex-related ~ lol). It seems some sports journalists and reporters working for Globo (Brazil's number one free-to-air network and number two worldwide ~ it loses to ABC) are experiencing censorship. According to inside intel, Neymar Jr.'s father signed an agreement with the network; the terms are simple: don't badmouth Neymar's (the son) immature actions and drama queen tendencies and everything will be fine, including the sponsors! If this is true, it'll be just another sign of Neymar's immaturity! Sometimes, he seems a pawn in his father's hands. Time to grow up, honey!!!

by Anonymousreply 302June 27, 2018 6:39 PM

I love how each time he's fouled (granted he does get fouled a lot), it's not one or two rolls--no, it's gotta be 4 or 5 rolls for about 10 yards. Then he recovers and is sprinting away the next minute.

by Anonymousreply 303June 27, 2018 7:13 PM

Brazil 2-0, Thiago Silva, header from a corner. Good corner delivery from Neymar.

by Anonymousreply 307June 27, 2018 7:26 PM

Well, that was a good delivery by Neymar.

by Anonymousreply 308June 27, 2018 7:27 PM

Not as much as drama as this morning. Since Serbia is losing, Switzerland could lose and still advance.

by Anonymousreply 311June 27, 2018 7:38 PM

We may get some drama from Group H, however.

The odds are in your favor!!! (lol)

P.S.: Balance of the day:

Congratulations to Brazil, Switzerland, Sweden and Mexico!

Serbia, Costa Rica, South Korea, Germany: you've tried till the end. Heads up!!!!

P.P.S.: My dear Germany, you're still my guilty pleasure! Unfortunately, you fell prey to the Champions Curse and, on top of that, there were 200 million Brazilians working their mojo against you! ("La vendetta è un piatto che va servito freddo.") Anyway, see you again in 4 1/2 years!!!

P.P.P.S.: Neuer, darling, on your back home, make a detour and come to Kattegat; I'll wipe away the tears from your eyes and put a smile on your face!

by Anonymousreply 317June 27, 2018 10:33 PM

Neuer is a cutie. The moment when he went out onto the field out of sheer desperation - only for Son to practically walk the ball into the net - was actually quite painful to watch.

by Anonymousreply 318June 27, 2018 10:46 PM

I'm glad that all the Koreans on the Korea team beat Germany's team. It's good for Germany to be knocked down. It's like another Jesse Owens moment for them, crapping on their smugness. Germany has some soul-searching to do.

by Anonymousreply 319June 28, 2018 12:19 AM

Heh, heh. The SK ambassador shared a shot of tequila with fans.

by Anonymousreply 320June 28, 2018 12:27 AM

So the Belgium-England game may not be intense as we hope. Finishing first means possibly playing Senegal/Columbia and then the winner of Mexico/Brazil. Finishing second would mean an "easier" bracket of Sweden/Switzerland. We'll know if both teams end up scoring 6 own goals ;)

by Anonymousreply 321June 28, 2018 2:13 AM

The Day After Musings:

I'm so sad for Germany, right now! Poor guys, they'll be thrashed!!! Germans are pissed off; I hope the players and coach find their inner strength to overcome this ordeal! (*sighs*)

Why can't people understand that football (or any other competitive sport, for that matter) is a reflection of Life? Just like it happens in Life, one day we are winners, on top of the world, laying on a bed of roses; and the other... the other, we're losers, facing the cold, hard floor, picking up the small pieces of our broken selves.

I guess Shakespeare put it better:

"The evil that men do lives after them; the good is oft interred with their bones." ("Julius Caesar")

P.S.:

OT: I would never kick Bruce Dickinson out of my bed: he may be short, but those arms, chest, thighs... oh, the thighs... (*swoons*)

by Anonymousreply 323June 28, 2018 12:17 PM

Are Croatia and England really that good? We'll see. Mexico fans are ecstatic, and now they will be hyper-anxious, with a motivated Brazilian squad as their next opponent. Russia gets bounced, posthaste, and I laugh and laugh.

Next WC cycle in Qatar is gonna be weird. Mostly hot--way too hot. Night or day, Summer or Fall, it doesn't matter.

And, USA, USA, USA! :( These are dark days.

Rooting for Senegal and Japan.

Colombia control their own destiny by winning.

Japan and Senegal control their own destinies by drawing or winning.

Colombia can advance by drawing if Japan loses.

Japan and Senegal can advance by losing if the other team also loses and with a worst goal difference.

by Anonymousreply 329June 28, 2018 2:19 PM

Wow, VAR reverses a penalty call. Colombia escape.

by Anonymousreply 330June 28, 2018 2:20 PM

Colombia is playing awful. No way they will win this.

by Anonymousreply 331June 28, 2018 2:27 PM

NOOOOOOOOOOOO My baby James. WHYYYYY?!

by Anonymousreply 332June 28, 2018 2:31 PM

James leaves due to injury. Senegal is getting the better of Colombia.

Btw, if Japan and Colombia finish equal on points, goal difference and goals scored, the tiebreaker would be cards. Japan, at the moment, would finish ahead of Colombia since they have 3 yellow cards and Senegal has 5.

by Anonymousreply 333June 28, 2018 2:35 PM

Colombia is fucked now. Oh well. All my teams are losing lol.

by Anonymousreply 334June 28, 2018 2:37 PM

Afraid for the Colombian players: it seems Sanchez (number 6) has received death threats. Back in 1994, a Colombian player named Escobar was killed supposedly because his own goal prevented Colombia to move on to the next phase.

by Anonymousreply 335June 28, 2018 2:44 PM

Apparently Poland have zero interest (and pride) in their game so Japan look to be good to go. That means Colombia has to win.

by Anonymousreply 336June 28, 2018 2:54 PM

R336

I trust a player as good as Lewandowski would like to leave the Cup with, at least, one victory. But, alas, he doesn't play alone and if his colleagues have already given up...

by Anonymousreply 337June 28, 2018 3:00 PM

Japan has missed so many chances, poor finishing

by Anonymousreply 338June 28, 2018 3:01 PM

Colombia has barely had any chances. Very very weak. Not even sure they deserve to go through tbh, and I say this as a Colombia and James fan btw.

by Anonymousreply 339June 28, 2018 3:04 PM

My mother is impressed by some Senegalese players' huge assets!!! (lol)

by Anonymousreply 340June 28, 2018 3:15 PM

by Anonymousreply 341June 28, 2018 3:20 PM

by Anonymousreply 342June 28, 2018 3:27 PM

by Anonymousreply 344June 28, 2018 3:33 PM

Fuck! Japan and Colombia are losing??!!

by Anonymousreply 345June 28, 2018 3:33 PM

R345 No, Colombia just scored.

by Anonymousreply 346June 28, 2018 3:34 PM

I meant Senengal...

I want Japan and Senegal to go through. So I'm gonna need 2 goals--1 each for these two teams.

by Anonymousreply 347June 28, 2018 3:36 PM

R347

Right now, Senegal and Poland are out!

by Anonymousreply 348June 28, 2018 3:39 PM

I know I have mixed feelings. I want Japan to go through most of all. And right now, they do. But I also want Senegal to go through. They can if they score and draw this game. But if that happens, I think that means Japan is out because Colombia has the better goal difference.

So I must have two 2 goals--one each so Japan and Senegal go through together.

Damnit.

by Anonymousreply 349June 28, 2018 3:43 PM

Well, Japan are messing up my plan:

85 min: Japan are playing a dangerous game here, trying to keep possession without doing anything with it in a bid to run down the clock. Poland are happy for them to continue doing so, but a Senegal goal against Colombia would mess things up for Japan. This has been a weird game. Very weird.

by Anonymousreply 350June 28, 2018 3:47 PM

89 min: In the interests of comedy entertainment, I really hope Senegal score.

Facebook Twitter Google plus 48s ago 16:47 88 min: Both sets of players have downed tools and are playing down the clock. I’m not sure the Poles know what’s going on, but they’re happy with their 1-0 win. Japan are content to lose 1-0 and hope Senegal don’t get another goal against Colombia. Meanwhile in the stands, the neutrals are getting very antsy with the entente cordiale being played out before them.

by Anonymousreply 351June 28, 2018 3:49 PM

It's really a pity Senegal didn't capitalize when they were superior to Colombia in the first half.

by Anonymousreply 352June 28, 2018 3:50 PM

Japan!

by Anonymousreply 353June 28, 2018 3:54 PM

Colombia 1st, Japan 2nd.

Gutted for Senegal. Really gutted. They played some great football, just a pity it didn't happen for them today. And to go out on the fair play tie-breaker is just tough.

by Anonymousreply 354June 28, 2018 3:55 PM

I am German!

by Anonymousreply 355June 28, 2018 3:55 PM

I wish one African team had moved on

by Anonymousreply 356June 28, 2018 3:56 PM

Asia got only one team through - by the skin of their teeth! Yay Japan!! Sorry for Senegal :(

by Anonymousreply 357June 28, 2018 3:57 PM

Since Colombia won the group and Japan is 2nd, Belgium and England have something to play for. I'm sure both would prefer to face to Japan rather than Colombia. That's one small plus from the games that just finished.

by Anonymousreply 358June 28, 2018 3:58 PM

And we say goodbye to the "Lions of Teranga" and Poland!

The Samurai and Colombia move on to the next phase.

And the Gods of Football have spoken!!!

by Anonymousreply 359June 28, 2018 3:59 PM

Feel so bad for my baby James today. Hope the injury is nothing serious.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 360June 28, 2018 5:16 PM

Nope, Belgium and England don't care about finishing first and are playing their B teams. Belgium have made 9 changes to the starting 11 and England 8. A bit disappointing as we have seen some great and intense last group games.

by Anonymousreply 361June 28, 2018 5:35 PM

Since both England and Belgium would rather face Japan, this is a “must-lose” game for both teams?

by Anonymousreply 362June 28, 2018 6:01 PM

No, the winner faces Japan. That's why I thought they would try to win. But apparently neither team cares. Supposedly, the bracket which Japan is in is tougher and perhaps the rational is that the Colombia bracket is easier. I don't see much difference.

It may be that both managers surmise that resting their best players for the knock-out games is more important than finishing 1st or 2nd or who the Round of 16 opponents are.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 363June 28, 2018 6:09 PM

Fascinating and weird stakes at play in this last group play game. It may be true that both sides would rather finish second in the group, and so want to concede a goal or have a draw with a loss of "fair play" points?

by Anonymousreply 364June 28, 2018 6:11 PM

R363, got it, thanks.

by Anonymousreply 365June 28, 2018 6:11 PM

Really, is there is there a truly appreciable difference between Japan and Colombia, especially now that James is potentially out? Regardless of who they'll eventually meet, it's smart to keep the stars rested and give the bench WC game time.

by Anonymousreply 366June 28, 2018 6:25 PM

Mick Jagger is nowhere to be seen. That guy is such a huge jinx that he could find a way to screw with a Team that's already classified!!! I bet the Queen threatened to take his knighthood if he dared to show up at England's game! (lol)

So far, Belgium seems to be faring better than England. Let's wait to see who comes on top... of this group. (*winks*)

by Anonymousreply 367June 28, 2018 6:26 PM

This game is sucking so far. If they don't care, I don't see why we should. Feel bad for the neutrals and locals who have shelled out for tickets.

by Anonymousreply 368June 28, 2018 6:35 PM

Just for the record: Panama scored!!!

by Anonymousreply 369June 28, 2018 6:38 PM

This system is fucked. Is Belgium really trying to get the most yellow cards.. WTF?!

by Anonymousreply 370June 28, 2018 6:43 PM

They're probably both trying to lose so they can play against Japan instead of Colombia.

by Anonymousreply 371June 28, 2018 6:44 PM

R371, it's already been mentioned--the 1st place team gets Japan. 2nd gets Colombia.

by Anonymousreply 372June 28, 2018 6:47 PM

From the Guardian: Group H has just been completed. So we now know the top team in Group G will face Japan in the second round, then if they get through, the winners of Brazil and Mexico. The runners-up get Colombia, and a theoretically easier run to the semis, because they’d then meet Sweden or Switzerland if they made the quarters. But, well, you know how these things have a habit of panning out, so best not to count any chickens.

So...The most important thing was to rest the best players (and avoid injuries). But maybe there is also a bit of planning and looking ahead to an easier route to the semi-finals. Again, we will have wait a little longer to see if these two teams are the real deal.

by Anonymousreply 373June 28, 2018 6:52 PM

Yes. Colombia is a better side than Japan, objectively, but they haven't dazzled. And finishing 2nd in this last group and playing Col in the round of 16 puts that team in the "preferred" half of the draw, apparently.

Tournament dramas and cynical moves. Are you ready for some football?

by Anonymousreply 374June 28, 2018 6:53 PM

The problem is not next round, Belgium and England will be the favourites next round anyway, the problem is the winner gets the worse rivals in the following rounds

by Anonymousreply 375June 28, 2018 6:53 PM

I've only been to one world cup game. Luckily it was Romania-Argentina in 1994 which is regarded as one of the best WC games ever. Imagine if this game is your once-in-a-lifetime world cup experience. I would be whistling and booing too.

Congratulations to Belgium, England, Colombia and Japan!

Tunisia, Panama, Senegal and Poland: the dream is not over, just postponed!

Now, we rest because, as of Saturday, is to kill or be killed! Prepare yourselves for long games (90 minutes +30 and the dreaded decision by penalties). As the path to the Final begins to narrow, some will rise, some will fall and our hearts will be tested!

I hope James will be healthy for the game. Wanted Senegal to go through, but sure as heck will be rooting for Colombia to thrash England. Think it will be very even game, though.

R392, I think other tiebreakers, related to play, should be considered before yellow cards. Such as corners, shots on goal, total shots--data that indicates aggressive, positive play by a team.

This game was some reality check on the English. They were vastly overrating their capabilities (and the possibility of winning the cup) based on the fact that they overwhelmed Panama, which isn't even in the top 50 national teams, but they crumble the moment they face a real team.

by Anonymousreply 397June 28, 2018 10:19 PM

That was a friendly featuring Belgium and England's reserve players. Analyzing it for anything relevant or useful is pointless. England may well be crap but it's not because of today's game. Judge them when they play their best team in a game that matters.

by Anonymousreply 398June 28, 2018 10:33 PM

It will be hilarious if Mexico beats Brazil, Belgium beats Japan and England loses to Colombia. England's efforts to avoid Brazil and play in an "easier" bracket will be for nought.

by Anonymousreply 399June 28, 2018 10:36 PM

[quote]That was a friendly featuring Belgium and England

Um, no, it wasn't.

by Anonymousreply 400June 28, 2018 10:41 PM

Officially it was a World Cup group stage game. In practice, it was a training match for reserve players.

R400, you think they took that game seriously? If they did, neither team would have named the starting XI that they did.

by Anonymousreply 401June 28, 2018 10:57 PM

No games on Friday, how will I cope?

by Anonymousreply 402June 28, 2018 11:42 PM

These are great and accurate

Sadly I think Colombia ia fucked without James. I know he hasn't played his best so far, he's been weak but it's because he's injured. He is still important for the team, for team morale. I think a team without James will suffer and England will win for sure (easily too), if he's not playing.

by Anonymousreply 406June 29, 2018 5:44 AM

Slightly off topic, but since there are no matches today, here's Pique interviewing James. It's a good interview and my baby James looks amazing as usual 😍

I listened to a post-match call-in show on BBC5 radio via the website last night from the US. FIFA doesn't allow much World Cup coverage from other countries to be available in others, but straight up talk shows are usually okay, as long as there's no actual game call or sponsored interviews...

Interesting debate about whether yesterday was a travesty of "fake football" and a ripoff especially to traveling fans who spent hundreds of pounds to get to the game, or a brilliant result that puts England in position to reach the semis or even the final for the first time in decades.

Favorite thought expressed by a pissed-off supporter, something along the lines of "If Harry Kane misses the golden boot by a goal or two, he'll have something to say about it"

by Anonymousreply 408June 29, 2018 2:37 PM

This might be my favorite DL thread of all time

by Anonymousreply 409June 29, 2018 2:49 PM

Anyone else having World Cup withdrawals today?

by Anonymousreply 410June 29, 2018 2:49 PM

Yes, R410, very much so. I can’t get motivated to do anything without football . . .

by Anonymousreply 411June 29, 2018 2:56 PM

You think it's bad today? Wait until there are 2 or 3 days off between the semi-finals and the final. And then there's the void when it's all over..

by Anonymousreply 412June 29, 2018 3:04 PM

As info, FS1 is replaying the Germany v So Korea match now, pivotal ending just minutes away

by Anonymousreply 414June 29, 2018 5:46 PM

R414, I was just gonna post that. I don’t know him or the team lol

by Anonymousreply 415June 29, 2018 5:51 PM

If we were in 2010 Spain will be a finalist for sure in that part of the draw (even in 2012) but we are not, so almost any team had chances in that half of the draw

by Anonymousreply 416June 29, 2018 6:08 PM

Needing a break from politics and heat wave coverage...can anyone break down the first two games in the knockout round of 16 tomorrow?

As for days off coming up, Wimbledon starts Monday too, right? So if no soccer there might be Grand Slam tennis to distract me. I'm sure inevitably there will be a semifinal in Russia and a huge match at Wimbledon going on simultaneously. Plus, when does the Tour de France begin?

I love international sports, especially in summer.

by Anonymousreply 417June 29, 2018 6:32 PM

R414 awesome! I've seen him play for a few years in the league

by Anonymousreply 418June 29, 2018 6:49 PM

He’s cute

by Anonymousreply 419June 29, 2018 6:56 PM

I was listening to the PopRocket podcast yesterday and Karen Tongson said she's structured her life around the World Cup because she's a huge fan of football and that she watches it with her lesbian circle. I'd never watch this in a genpop bar cause I just can't with straight fans but I'd watch the shit out of it in a lesbian bunker. Sounds like it would be great fun.

by Anonymousreply 420June 29, 2018 11:50 PM

[quote]FIFA doesn't allow much World Cup coverage from other countries to be available in others,

What?! How does this work?

by Anonymousreply 421June 30, 2018 12:41 AM

My money is on Argentina beating France today

by Anonymousreply 422June 30, 2018 12:25 PM

R422 fuck maradona’s fug fat ass!

by Anonymousreply 423June 30, 2018 12:29 PM

R423 lol. I didn't say I wanted it. I just think that's what's going to happen

by Anonymousreply 424June 30, 2018 12:33 PM

r423 Because Maradona is still playing...

by Anonymousreply 425June 30, 2018 12:45 PM

Lionel Messi is a cutie.

by Anonymousreply 426June 30, 2018 12:48 PM

I am anticipating at least one of the games today will be exciting and close. Maybe even into OT periods.

I really hope there aren't nil-nil draws decided on penalty kicks after 120 minutes of play. Those games can be exciting, I admit, but I much prefer goals scored in the course of play.

by Anonymousreply 427June 30, 2018 12:54 PM

R425 it will have no effect on Maradona if they win or lose....

by Anonymousreply 428June 30, 2018 1:24 PM

Maradona put that huge show for the cameras rolling and filming his moves for a documentary. Such a drama queen!

by Anonymousreply 429June 30, 2018 1:30 PM

Bitch, I'm Maradona

by Anonymousreply 430June 30, 2018 1:33 PM

And I'm Zinedine Zidane! Want to butt heads? (lol)

by Anonymousreply 431June 30, 2018 1:35 PM

Next up It's a Knockout!, France v. Argentina at Kazan Stadium, current temp. 28C.

by Anonymousreply 432June 30, 2018 1:47 PM

France is a more balanced team and their midfield of Pogba (however maligned) and Kante is miles better than Argentina's. And I'm a big believer that most of the time, it comes down to who controls the middle. But of course, Messi is Messi. If he has a couple of magical moments then it doesn't matter who the opponents are. But that's a big IF.

I'm not familiar with Armani, the keeper for Argentiina. But Hugo Lloris is a very good keeper, if not world class, so barring a brain freeze, he'll be tough to beat. Giroud is a solid striker but not great--the magic will have to come from Griezmann and elsewhere. Griezmann, btw, for awhile, had a reputation for disappearing in big games for Atletico Madrid. He has shed that rep the last couple of seasons-today would not be a good day to revert to old habits.

Sergio Aguero is one of the best strikers in the world. It must be galling Argentina would rather go with a false #9 and not play with any true strikers at all. Messi and Mascherano played manager in the last game and they won so it justifies their ways but as the competition heats up, I doubt they can fool the better teams and managers. Is today the day?

by Anonymousreply 433June 30, 2018 1:55 PM

France has been the better team so far this World Cup, so my money is on them.

by Anonymousreply 434June 30, 2018 1:59 PM

I'm at work and can't watch the match. So I'm living vicariously through you all

by Anonymousreply 435June 30, 2018 2:03 PM

Aguero is said to have no chemistry with Messi on the pitch, so I was not surprised to see that he was not starting.

by Anonymousreply 436June 30, 2018 2:03 PM

Yes, R436, Aguero suffers a not too uncommon player syndrome--fantastic for club, indifferent for country. It's too bad because he can be so very good.

Mascherano is wily and was once a great midfielder. He may have big balls, but that won't save him or Argentina as his 34 year old legs can't keep up with Griezmann and company. He's just given away a freekick in a dangerous area and Griezmann hits the top bar!

by Anonymousreply 437June 30, 2018 2:09 PM

Giroud has that "meaty French forehead" capable of impressive headers.

by Anonymousreply 438June 30, 2018 2:10 PM

Penalty kick for France.

by Anonymousreply 439June 30, 2018 2:11 PM

Yep, Argentina can't keep with France's speed and penalty results.

by Anonymousreply 440June 30, 2018 2:11 PM

Greizmann missed a Champions League final PK...

by Anonymousreply 441June 30, 2018 2:12 PM

by Anonymousreply 443June 30, 2018 2:13 PM

by Anonymousreply 444June 30, 2018 2:13 PM

by Anonymousreply 445June 30, 2018 2:13 PM

GOLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

1 Nil France

by Anonymousreply 446June 30, 2018 2:13 PM

Is there anyone on the Argentine team that HASN"T gotten a yellow card?

by Anonymousreply 447June 30, 2018 2:19 PM

If ARG lose here and go home, Messi's legacy as a national hero and "greatest living player" is effectively ruined, right?

by Anonymousreply 448June 30, 2018 2:22 PM

This is why players play and managers manage.

France is gonna keep going to Mbappe and Griezmann with simple boots up the field. Argentina can't deal with their quickness. As the game progresses and Argentina have to push forward for a goal or two, France will kill them on quick counters. And Argentina will resort to the dark arts out of frustration.

by Anonymousreply 449June 30, 2018 2:22 PM

R449

"And Argentina will resort to the dark arts out of frustration."

Don't give Maradona ideas!

by Anonymousreply 450June 30, 2018 2:24 PM

R448, that’s not my understanding. It’s known that he’s burdened with a lame team. But he will not have equaled Maradona’s accomplishment.

by Anonymousreply 451June 30, 2018 2:29 PM

R451

Maradona rules from the (as of now, open) grave!

by Anonymousreply 452June 30, 2018 2:32 PM

I want Argentina to win because this will probably be Messi's last World Cup, and it would be a shame for him to be knocked out so early.

by Anonymousreply 453June 30, 2018 2:38 PM

Messi should have opted to play for Spain and have been done with it, but that would have been seen as an unforgivable betrayal by Argentina.

by Anonymousreply 454June 30, 2018 2:39 PM

R454 Why would he play for Spain if he's Argentinian?

by Anonymousreply 455June 30, 2018 2:40 PM

Di Maria scores for Argentina.

by Anonymousreply 456June 30, 2018 2:41 PM

Viva Argentina!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 1 1

by Anonymousreply 457June 30, 2018 2:41 PM

Ugh of course they show the fat cokehead celebrate

by Anonymousreply 458June 30, 2018 2:42 PM

R455, he’s lived in Spain most of his life; if he doesn’t have citizenship he could get it.

by Anonymousreply 459June 30, 2018 2:43 PM

Hell of a strike from DiMaria. Now it's a hot game.

by Anonymousreply 460June 30, 2018 2:43 PM

R453

Your dream remains alive, but Messi must be careful not to get another yellow card!

by Anonymousreply 461June 30, 2018 2:43 PM

R459 since he was 13 he’s basically a spaniard now

by Anonymousreply 462June 30, 2018 2:43 PM

France, bored of controlling the game, go brain dead and allow Argentina back in.

by Anonymousreply 463June 30, 2018 2:44 PM

I had a big delicious uncut married french cock yesterday so hoping france pulls this one out!

by Anonymousreply 464June 30, 2018 2:46 PM

Di Maria is sure fugly.

by Anonymousreply 465June 30, 2018 2:47 PM

Quick trip to the bathroom and then to the kitchen for snacks and beverages!

by Anonymousreply 466June 30, 2018 2:49 PM

He's also been pretty crap in this game and the tournament overall. So of course he scores. French midfielders leaving him all alone in the middle of the field with a freebie at goal.

Pogba needs a kick up the hole. Is he going to step up or what?

by Anonymousreply 467June 30, 2018 2:50 PM

[quote]big delicious uncut married french cock yesterday so hoping france pulls this one out

Meaty, was it?

by Anonymousreply 468June 30, 2018 2:51 PM

I only watch football during the World Cup - how does the crowd make so much noise? Are they singing some sort of chant-like war songs? It gets on my nerves :(

Seems like some teams have louder crowds than others - but those awful vuvuzules or whatever? I have to turn it off when they have those. I'm surviving the constant yelling/singing but just barely.

Sorry for the get-off-my-lawn rant - it's just irritating.

by Anonymousreply 469June 30, 2018 2:52 PM

R465, di Maria always reminds me of the Pharaoh Akhenaten, a confession I can make only on DL.

by Anonymousreply 470June 30, 2018 2:52 PM

With that yellow card, Mascherano misses the next game--if there's a next game for Argentina. They should count it as a blessing because he sure as hell isn't going to bench himself.

by Anonymousreply 471June 30, 2018 2:55 PM

That was a pretty bullshit yellow card for Mascherano, too.

by Anonymousreply 472June 30, 2018 3:01 PM

Rule check. Two yellows = miss next game. Two in same game or combined?

Red card means missing how many games?

by Anonymousreply 473June 30, 2018 3:03 PM

Argentina scored again.

by Anonymousreply 474June 30, 2018 3:06 PM

Oh, My Gods!!! Argentina scores again!

by Anonymousreply 475June 30, 2018 3:06 PM

Viva Argentina!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 2 1

by Anonymousreply 476June 30, 2018 3:06 PM

Messi got lucky af French men are choking

by Anonymousreply 477June 30, 2018 3:07 PM

Wow, yellow card.

by Anonymousreply 478June 30, 2018 3:08 PM

by Anonymousreply 497June 30, 2018 3:22 PM

by Anonymousreply 499June 30, 2018 3:22 PM

by Anonymousreply 501June 30, 2018 3:22 PM

R494 total top here. He can fuck me right now

by Anonymousreply 502June 30, 2018 3:23 PM

The officiating is pretty inconsistent in this game. Argentina looks at a French player and there's a yellow card. The French are battering the Argentine midfield. and nothing.

That said, the Argentine defense is awful.

by Anonymousreply 503June 30, 2018 3:23 PM

France are the better team and they're showing it. Argentina's goals have come against the run of play. I don't really have a dog in the hunt but want to see the best team win. If Argentina ties this/wins, it'll be to something flukey because they have been by far the inferior team.

Now, finally, Aguero.

by Anonymousreply 504June 30, 2018 3:24 PM

R502

You'll have to wait until the end of the game! (lol)

by Anonymousreply 505June 30, 2018 3:24 PM

R502 I would do him that curly hair is adorable but Grietzmann is the one I really want(and Girourd) damn french men are hot and chances are they are good At fucking.

by Anonymousreply 506June 30, 2018 3:24 PM

Incroyable!!!

by Anonymousreply 507June 30, 2018 3:26 PM

France is battering Argentina now.

by Anonymousreply 508June 30, 2018 3:26 PM

This game is pretty much over now, right? Told ya France would win.

by Anonymousreply 509June 30, 2018 3:27 PM

Yep, better team is better.

Don't hire stupid managers. Don't allow players to manage the team, no matter how fucking great they are.

by Anonymousreply 510June 30, 2018 3:27 PM

Holy Shit!!!!! France!!!!!!! 4 2

by Anonymousreply 511June 30, 2018 3:27 PM

Damn france is really good and young! Granted argentina is not all that good.

by Anonymousreply 512June 30, 2018 3:27 PM

It ain't over til the whistle blows. Anything can happen in the next 20 min.

by Anonymousreply 513June 30, 2018 3:28 PM

I'm not writing Argentina off yet. Anything could happen at this World Cup

by Anonymousreply 514June 30, 2018 3:29 PM

It's over in that systemically, Argentina cannot beat France's midfield, cannot cope with their speed, etc. But can something funny happen? Can a French player lose their head and get sent off? Of course. But in terms of football personnel and tactics, Argentina are fucked.

by Anonymousreply 515June 30, 2018 3:31 PM

Show fat maradona crying already

by Anonymousreply 516June 30, 2018 3:34 PM

When France is on their game it is a beautiful thing to watch

by Anonymousreply 517June 30, 2018 3:35 PM

Mbappe is going to break the transfer fee record (held by his teammate, Pogba) after this World Cup. And he's only 19!

by Anonymousreply 518June 30, 2018 3:36 PM

I guess the Pope is not watching the game this time!

by Anonymousreply 519June 30, 2018 3:42 PM

Sums up Messi's tournament--a lackluster shot straight at the keeper.

by Anonymousreply 520June 30, 2018 3:43 PM

Adios Argentina. Felicitacion France!!

by Anonymousreply 521June 30, 2018 3:44 PM

Oui, r517. Ils sont BEAUX

by Anonymousreply 522June 30, 2018 3:45 PM

Messi’s been over the hill for a while, it’s weird how soccer players deteriorate by 29/30 and yet tom brady and lebron james are still elite Past 33.

by Anonymousreply 523June 30, 2018 3:48 PM

Don't cry for me, Maradona. The truth is, I never liked you.

by Anonymousreply 524June 30, 2018 3:50 PM

Je ne crois pas! Messi scored!!!

by Anonymousreply 525June 30, 2018 3:51 PM

I don't think France played particularly brilliant football. On paper, they are a better team and it has proven to be. Their manager used sensible tactics and exploited Argentina's weaknesses. It's nothing extraordinary. It just so happens they played a team without tactics, without quality in certain key areas, without unity.

See, I told you to start Aguero! The guy scores goals!

by Anonymousreply 526June 30, 2018 3:51 PM

Argentina has some hotheads some are kind of hot too.

by Anonymousreply 527June 30, 2018 3:52 PM

Fucking ugly mess right there

by Anonymousreply 528June 30, 2018 3:52 PM

Otamendi is odious. Always playing the hardass when his team is getting stuffed.

by Anonymousreply 529June 30, 2018 3:53 PM

R526 and without discipline

by Anonymousreply 530June 30, 2018 3:53 PM

A short haircut and facial hair definitely improved Messi’s looks he looked like a troll before.

by Anonymousreply 531June 30, 2018 3:56 PM

Félicitations et allez leus bleus!!! Bisous!

And that was "The Last Tango In Kazan"! Adiós, Messi! I like you and feel bad for you, but, please, get rid of that burden called Maradona, who, btw, must be singing "Don't Cry For Me Argentina" à la Evita because he's a drama empress!

by Anonymousreply 532June 30, 2018 3:56 PM

Seven goals, we've been spoiled in the first knockout game. Watch Uruguay strangle the game this afternoon and we get a 0-0 and penalty kicks.

by Anonymousreply 533June 30, 2018 3:57 PM

Hopefully ronaldo can score early

by Anonymousreply 534June 30, 2018 3:59 PM

Pavard strips shirt! Did he give it to young French kid? Images, svp

by Anonymousreply 535June 30, 2018 3:59 PM

Hoping Portugal win tonight. It'll be strange if Messi & CR7 exit on the same day.

by Anonymousreply 536June 30, 2018 4:00 PM

I can’t believe mbappes only 19! I want to see his birth certificate! He looks much older! Also, he’s wasting his talent in French league

by Anonymousreply 537June 30, 2018 4:02 PM

You know Luis Suarez is gonna go cray cray if Uruguay is losing... I expect him to do something nuts

by Anonymousreply 538June 30, 2018 4:03 PM

Hopefully they will give him a bag of nuts so he's not famished and goes looking to snack on a Portuguese player.

by Anonymousreply 539June 30, 2018 4:10 PM

Mbappe says he doesn't need salary to play for France; he's donating that money to charity. Per Fox post game show. Love the garçon even more.

by Anonymousreply 540June 30, 2018 4:15 PM

Of course does not need the $$. He has a huge PSG contract

by Anonymousreply 541June 30, 2018 4:17 PM

We may need a new thread before the next match starts. Hey, OP...keep it simple and please link back. In an hour or so.

Kisses

by Anonymousreply 542June 30, 2018 4:20 PM

I'll try...I may be out running an errand but will be back for the 2nd game. Maybe I'll start it now just in case?

Yes, I know it happens in other ways as well but I try to minimize it if possible. I am not gonna give any company my fingerprint (phone) or face recognition etc.

I am not gonna give these corporate cunts my soul. Fuck that! I support local and mom and pops store where you actually know the owners. I don’t mind paying a couple dollars extra, rather give to them than cunt Jeff bozo.

by Anonymousreply 548June 30, 2018 4:50 PM

R548, yes, but who do you think will win the game between Uruguay and Portugal?

by Anonymousreply 549June 30, 2018 4:54 PM

It's not unusual for international players to donate their fees to charity. The England team as a whole has done it automatically for a long time.

by Anonymousreply 550June 30, 2018 5:04 PM

[quote]I am not gonna give these corporate cunts my soul. Fuck that!

R548 is not Pogba, Messi, Favian.

by Anonymousreply 551June 30, 2018 5:12 PM

What do they mean by dark arts???

by Anonymousreply 552June 30, 2018 5:22 PM

Dark arts as in cheating, sticking a foot in where it shouldn't be, sticking a hand out where it shouldn't be, a push here, shove there, etc.

by Anonymousreply 553June 30, 2018 5:29 PM

Ear biting?

Asking for a friend

by Anonymousreply 554June 30, 2018 5:34 PM

I'm rooting for Uruguay, I hope that closet case slut goes down.

by Anonymousreply 555June 30, 2018 5:45 PM

R552

Maradona's "The Hand Of God"!

by Anonymousreply 556June 30, 2018 5:53 PM

Luis is crazy, he’s also well known diver

by Anonymousreply 557June 30, 2018 5:53 PM

Damn, the puma kits are a tight fit! All the pecs on display!

by Anonymousreply 558June 30, 2018 5:55 PM

There's a lot of homoerotic shit in soccer, you know they make those shirts tight so ya'll gay asses will tune in.

by Anonymousreply 559June 30, 2018 5:57 PM

We know who Badr Hari is cheering for.

Oh! He's carrying him through the threshold of their new love nest! (lol)

by Anonymousreply 561June 30, 2018 6:06 PM

Uruguay 1-0, Ronnie already losing.

by Anonymousreply 562June 30, 2018 6:08 PM

Now, Luiz, calm down! No need to bite anyone. See, Uruguay already scored!

by Anonymousreply 563June 30, 2018 6:09 PM

"Tighter than an Arsenal jersey" used to be a thing, in my house.

by Anonymousreply 564June 30, 2018 6:11 PM

The suarez guy is flopping alll over the field

by Anonymousreply 565June 30, 2018 6:24 PM

This Uruguay defense is so tight, if Portugal scores 1, it will be an achievement. I don't care who wins but the problem with Uruguay scoring first is now they just close down the game. Which isn't fun for a viewer.

by Anonymousreply 566June 30, 2018 6:25 PM

So far, CR7 is going back home. Earlier today, Messi packed his bags. I wonder if Neymar Jr. and Brazil are going home on Monday, too.

by Anonymousreply 567June 30, 2018 6:31 PM

Ugh this game sucks compared to the first one, the way uruguay plays is the reason most americans hate soccer

by Anonymousreply 568June 30, 2018 6:32 PM

Hike those shorts up, for the billion viewers, CR7.

by Anonymousreply 569June 30, 2018 6:35 PM

Ronaldo makes one in the first game of the Cup and now there's heightened expectation he scores freekicks regularly. But if you watch Real Madrid even a bit, you know all the ones he doesn't make. And you know that some fans grumble he should let others (like Gareth Bale) take freekicks because his make rate isn't any good.

by Anonymousreply 570June 30, 2018 6:35 PM

Does the referee look like a SNL cast member?

If I'm asking this question, it means this game is dull. Which is exactly how Uruguay likes it.

by Anonymousreply 571June 30, 2018 6:38 PM

France was the best team. Argentina has been poor both before and in the world cup. France won their game deservedly.

by Anonymousreply 572June 30, 2018 6:39 PM

I think Uruguay seems like the best team so far in this game against Portugal though, their defense is really good.

by Anonymousreply 573June 30, 2018 6:40 PM

What will make this game fun is if Portugal scores 2. Then you'll see Uruguay come out and play. The problem is scoring those two goals...

by Anonymousreply 574June 30, 2018 6:40 PM

Ronaldo looks weird, whoever does his eyebrows did a bad job.

by Anonymousreply 575June 30, 2018 6:40 PM

Wanna bet the Argentinians root for Uruguay now that their team is out? There have always been close ties between the two countries.

by Anonymousreply 576June 30, 2018 6:41 PM

Right now, Uruguay is playing anti-football.

by Anonymousreply 577June 30, 2018 6:42 PM

Uruguay proudly playing the Italian way. Repping those could not make it.

by Anonymousreply 578June 30, 2018 6:42 PM

Kitten is watching football with me as usual. She loves to follow the ball on tv 😂😂

by Anonymousreply 579June 30, 2018 6:44 PM

Yikes, Suarez is down.

by Anonymousreply 580June 30, 2018 6:45 PM

Why don't the announcers call these players out more for there diving? I feel like the purposely don't mention that these "fouls" are just dives.

by Anonymousreply 581June 30, 2018 6:45 PM

Oh fuck off Suarez. He's grabbing his head and the contact wasn't anywhere near. I wish cards were given for this shit.

by Anonymousreply 582June 30, 2018 6:46 PM

Muslera is kinda cute.

by Anonymousreply 583June 30, 2018 6:46 PM

[quote]Wanna bet the Argentinians root for Uruguay now that their team is out? There have always been close ties between the two countries.

Yeah, you clearly don't know South America very well. There is big time rivalry between these two countries, including unsettled border disputes.

A survey from some years ago found that the only foreign group Argentinians felt more positively than negatively about was... Brazilians. And the survey did ask about Uruguayans.

by Anonymousreply 584June 30, 2018 6:46 PM

Ooh, did someone hurt Suarez's head?

by Anonymousreply 585June 30, 2018 6:46 PM

R582 It's possible to get a headache after being hit in the neck. I struggle with chronic neck pains (stress related), and I always get a headache when my neck hurts.

by Anonymousreply 586June 30, 2018 6:47 PM

Commentators ignore the flopping bullshit in nba they flat out call it out lol

by Anonymousreply 587June 30, 2018 6:47 PM

Oh look, the Cannibal is back on the pitch after suffering a catastrophic foul.

by Anonymousreply 588June 30, 2018 6:47 PM

ronaldo’s “ hotness” has always been over rated

by Anonymousreply 589June 30, 2018 6:48 PM

R586, you're obviously not familiar with Luis Suarez.

by Anonymousreply 590June 30, 2018 6:49 PM

r589 I agree that Ronaldo spent a lot of money to glow up, he still has a rocken body that's all his own...I think.

by Anonymousreply 591June 30, 2018 6:50 PM

There is no shame rooting for Uruguay, it's a gay friendly country. Then again, so it Portugal.

by Anonymousreply 595June 30, 2018 6:53 PM

It’s didficult to root for Uruguay because they are just ugly lol one of the least attractive teams.

by Anonymousreply 596June 30, 2018 6:53 PM

we..

by Anonymousreply 597June 30, 2018 6:54 PM

R582 The Norwegian commentators were like "oh, did he hit his head?" Then they replayed the hit and they were just like "oh", lol. They didn't directly call him out but it's clear they thought he was bullshitting, lol.

by Anonymousreply 598June 30, 2018 6:54 PM

must

by Anonymousreply 599June 30, 2018 6:54 PM

end it.

by Anonymousreply 600June 30, 2018 6:54 PM

R589, I've always been Team Torres--who is naturally handsome. Ronaldo's has had to have more work done. All soccer pros have rocking bodies so that's a given.

by Anonymousreply 601June 30, 2018 6:55 PM

Something about Cavani that makes me dislike him more then Suarez.
