Bertolucci Says He Wants to Work with Kevin Spacey 'Immediately'

Bernardo Bertolucci has said that Ridley Scott “should be ashamed” over the decision to cut Kevin Spacey from his drama All the Money in the World.

Scott made the last-minute decision to remove Spacey from the completed film last autumn after the actor and former Old Vic artistic director was accused of sexual harassment and assault by a number of men. Spacey’s scenes were reshot at great expense, with Christopher Plummer replacing him in the role of billionaire J Paul Getty.

Yet, speaking at the world premiere of the restored version of his 1972 drama Last Tango in Paris at the Bari international film festival, Bertolucci was critical of the decision, according to the Italian newspaper il Giornale (via Deadline).

“When I learned that Ridley Scott had agreed to eliminate the scenes of All the Money in the World in which Kevin Spacey was playing, I sent a message to editor Peter Scalia to tell Scott that he should be ashamed,” the Italian director said. “And then I immediately wanted to make a film with Spacey.”

Europeans are more adult than pantywaist Americans.

The Spacey comeback continues.

by Anonymousreply 2June 21, 2018 2:11 PM

I hate that word, r2.....

by Anonymousreply 3June 21, 2018 2:13 PM

They're both gross.

by Anonymousreply 4June 21, 2018 2:27 PM

What’s gross about Kevin Spacey? Cause he felt up a couple bell hops?

by Anonymousreply 5June 21, 2018 2:28 PM

Another creepy old letch has an opinion.

by Anonymousreply 6June 21, 2018 2:43 PM

Spacey is a lecherous predator and paedofile R5. That's what's so gross about him.

But you knew that...

by Anonymousreply 7June 21, 2018 2:48 PM

R7 He's no more of a predator than any of us males.

We're men and we know what we like.

We don't need to be told how to behave by women and teenagers.

by Anonymousreply 8June 21, 2018 2:59 PM

R7 I don't know about you, but I've gotten through several board meetings without compulsively grabbing the dick of whoever was sitting beside me.

by Anonymousreply 9June 21, 2018 3:03 PM

What is, or was, Bernardo's story? Bi at the very least....another of those 70s flameouts, like Mr. Coppola. He won the Oscar for "The Last Emperor," which was luscious and dead in the water, and then pretty much disappeared....He used to seem so interesting.

by Anonymousreply 10June 21, 2018 3:06 PM

R8 Kevin? Is that you?

by Anonymousreply 11June 21, 2018 3:06 PM

Of course Berlolucci will require that Spacey do a lengthy full-frontal nude scene.

by Anonymousreply 12June 21, 2018 3:06 PM

R12 Ewww

by Anonymousreply 13June 21, 2018 3:07 PM

R8 Speak for yourself. I prefer 'em willing and older than 14 but maybe I'm an outlier among " us males".

by Anonymousreply 14June 21, 2018 3:12 PM

Rapp was 14 but looked and acted like a college kid. It’s not like he was some goofy, acne-ridden little kid with braces. He enjoyed the company of men, then Spacey had a few too many drinks and treated him like one.

by Anonymousreply 15June 21, 2018 3:15 PM

"Looked and acted like a college kid"

Hahahahaha!

Well Bernardo had Marlon Brando rape Maria Schneider on camera in Last Tango in Paris so this isn't surprising.

by Anonymousreply 17June 21, 2018 3:29 PM

Hasn't Bertolucci been accused of sexual harassment?

by Anonymousreply 18June 21, 2018 4:20 PM

R1 -Perhaps it's time you read a newspaper. Or maybe visit Europe and talk to some women.

I think Scott was bending to producers box office concerns more than standing up against sexual abuse. Not that I think he's for it or that he doesn't care. So I can see Bertoluccis point somewhere.

That said, he does seem a long nosehaired dinosaur if he cannot incorporate the valid and long called for issue of sexual abuse esp in Hollywood in his worldview. That should be his concern just as it should be everybody's.

R21, yup. He's obvlivious to his own culpability.

by Anonymousreply 22June 21, 2018 7:25 PM

Spacey allegedly not coming back to acting. Bertolicci is only after 5mins of fame or a master actor on the cheap. It isnt going to happen !!!!!

by Anonymousreply 23June 22, 2018 7:07 AM

I'd be happy to see the new Bertoluccid movie with Spacey.

I didn't hold a fatwa against Polanski either. I even voted for the adulterer Bill Clinton.

by Anonymousreply 24June 22, 2018 7:13 AM

Yeah because adultery and child rape are morally equivalent.

by Anonymousreply 25June 22, 2018 7:43 AM

"Bertolucci Says He Wants to Fist Kevin Spacey 'Immediately'"

Fixed it for you!

by Anonymousreply 26June 22, 2018 8:09 AM

Spacey did not stick his penis into children.

by Anonymousreply 27June 22, 2018 8:17 AM

R8 I agree with you 100%. I've always found spacey very sexy, and still do! I think they did an over kill job on him.

by Anonymousreply 28June 22, 2018 8:47 AM

R27 I was referring to Polanski

by Anonymousreply 29June 22, 2018 8:48 AM

So make the movie Bernie B. Use unsalted butter though. Kevin has issues.

by Anonymousreply 30June 22, 2018 9:06 AM

Bernardo Bertolucci wanting to work with Kevin Spacey especially after what he and Brando did to Maria Schneider is the least surprising thing I've read in ages.

by Anonymousreply 31June 22, 2018 9:16 PM

They sound like a perfect match.

by Anonymousreply 32June 22, 2018 9:17 PM

Dream on.... not happening.

Perverts stick together, just kill them all with fire.

Purse-clutching wowsers stick together, kill them with fire.

by Anonymousreply 36June 23, 2018 10:03 AM

I don't think Spacey wants to come back anytime soon because he doesn't want the publicity. I think he's quite comfortable laying low for now. He's probably more concerned about how any new publicity could lead to more harm being done to his personal life. I wouldn't be surprised if SJWs started protesting the release of Billionare Boy's Club next month. Even the new season of House of Cards, which he's not in, could put a harsh spotlight on him.

by Anonymousreply 37June 23, 2018 10:23 AM

R37 i disagree. I don't think Spacey is quite comfortable at all. The whole situation is excruciating. He won't be the same at all going through this.

by Anonymousreply 38June 24, 2018 7:05 PM

Bertolucci better have a steady hand to hold his iPhone. Getting a real film insured will be much trickier.

by Anonymousreply 39June 24, 2018 7:16 PM

Bertolucci is a notorious perv and closeted, self-loathing 'mo.

Always brings up homosexuality then suppresses it in his work, which has constantly been interpreted as his obsession with trying to deal with his homosexuality in straight contexts, pained by their same-sex attractions (Last Tango, the Conformist, the Dreamers).

Notice how he brought up homosexuality with a hint of jealousy and then goes about condescendingly critiquing gay men.

Love this bit of trivia

Bertolucci films nude scenes of his actors and miraculously leaves it on the cutting room floor (along with the spooj in his private viewing room)

I love this quote from an analysis of Bertolucci's fascination with homoerotica, in light of Bertolucci's comment to the press once: "Although I think 1900 is a movie there is a lot to say about, my critics keep distant from it. It's as if they were fucked up the ass and refused to come."

As the essayist says after linking Bertolucci's films ... "we're led to wonder if it's only the critics who have been fucked up the ass but refused to come."
