CMD, duh!

by Anonymousreply 1June 20, 2018 5:47 AM

Carrie!

by Anonymousreply 2June 20, 2018 5:51 AM

CARRIE.

She's a little too drab in some things to hold my interest. Sorry. (Though of corse she's talented.)

by Anonymousreply 3June 20, 2018 6:28 AM

Oh - c'mon OP - this is DL - if you took a poll, 85% would say Carrie.

by Anonymousreply 4June 20, 2018 6:31 AM

Missus Walters in The Help, Loretta Lynn in Coal Miners Daughter

by Anonymousreply 5June 20, 2018 7:05 AM

Jeez....I don't even remember her in THE HELP....

by Anonymousreply 6June 20, 2018 7:09 AM

Raggedy Man (Maybe Eric Robert’s best too)

by Anonymousreply 7June 20, 2018 7:20 AM

Too many great ones to choose from (Badlands, Carrie, 3 Women, Coal Miner's Daughter, Missing, Raggedy Man, Crimes of the Heart, 'night Mother, The Straight Story, In the Bedroom).

There's a great, underrated film from 1990 called The Long Walk Home. It's Sissy and Whoopi as a wealthy white Southern woman and her black housekeeper/nanny, set in Alabama in 1955 (about 5-10 years before the time The Help was set). It's really well done--everyone is great in it--and it doesn't sugarcoat how blatant the racism was. Sissy is able to show her character's arc in a very nuanced way and I am always fascinated by her when I watch it (I've seen it multiple times).

Came out 19 years before The Help novel was published (just sayin').

This trailer doesn't do it justice:

Sissy is good in al the above-mentioned movies. But Carrie is iconic!!

by Anonymousreply 10June 20, 2018 8:11 AM

R9 agree. Saw it in the theatre with my mom. Limited release not out long.

Whoopi was very good too though I know we hate her around here...

by Anonymousreply 11June 20, 2018 8:37 AM

Badlands, though soo may performances to choose from.

by Anonymousreply 12June 20, 2018 9:02 AM

there are pix of her fore she got that drastic pixie nose

love her work ,,,, but child that nose....wow

by Anonymousreply 13June 20, 2018 10:15 AM

Can’t decide between Loretta Lyme or Carrie White. Spacek an acting giant - probably best of her generation.

by Anonymousreply 14June 20, 2018 10:34 AM

Definitely Coal Miner's Daughter.

She is good in Carrie, but I love genre films like that anyway so it is hard to separate that from her performance.

But with CMD...I despise country music and am not a LL fan. And yet that movie still reels me in.

That is the mark of a stellar performance.

I agree with TO. The Long Walk Home was one of my favorite Sissy Spacek. Whoopi Goldberg was also great.

I agree with R9. The Long Walk Home was one of my favorite Sissy Spacek. Whoopi Goldberg was also great.

Correction: damn auto-correct Google keyboard

It's really her modeling career that first set the world on fire...

I loved her most as Cassie!

by Anonymousreply 22June 20, 2018 1:58 PM

Loved her in Badlands

by Anonymousreply 23June 20, 2018 6:43 PM

I've always wanted to see HEART BEAT because I like the retro glam way they made her up.

“In the Bedroom”

by Anonymousreply 26June 20, 2018 7:47 PM

Badlands- although excellent in all her films!

by Anonymousreply 27June 20, 2018 8:27 PM

Another vote for "Raggedy Man"...featuring a young pre-"ET" Henry Thomas.

by Anonymousreply 28June 20, 2018 8:40 PM

My SECOND favorite Sissy performance was Crimes of the Heart. She rarely got to show a comic side...... and in a smaller role, she was great as Richard Farnsworth's mentally-challenged daughter in The Straight Story.

by Anonymousreply 29June 21, 2018 1:02 AM

Saw her a year or two ago in Bloodline on Netflix. That nose is nightmare-inducing.

by Anonymousreply 30June 21, 2018 1:16 AM

Stop worrying about her nose.

R25 - Wow...John Heard was SO HANDSOME!

by Anonymousreply 33June 21, 2018 1:18 AM

I can't choose between "Badlands" and "Carrie"; it's like trying to chooses between "Bonnie and Clyde" and "Chinatown" for Dunaway. Equally great performances!

by Anonymousreply 34June 21, 2018 1:19 AM

That really is a jaw-dropping filmography posted at R8. Good-to-great performances, every one.

by Anonymousreply 35June 21, 2018 2:36 AM

I love her and Piper Laurie as sisters in The Grass Harp.
