Um... three guesses who owns all the guns in this country (and the first two don't count). A post civil war USA would be a lot less black, brown and gay. A President (of either party) being assassinated when the assassin is clearly motivated by "the other side" (i.e. not some random lunatic).

I just don't understand how a country can last if half the citizens only believe in the rule of law when it applies to dark skin people, who don't believe all men are created equal, don't believe in a separation between church and state and believe freedom of speech means you can lie with impunity. They don't believe in facts, science, journalism or education. There is nothing there to work with. Split the country let them live out their Wild West fantasies and let the rest of us move forward with an actual representative Democracy.

Should this country stay united? That's a good question, r40. But how would you divide it up? Trump, whatever your feelings on his politics, upset the conventional red-blue divide in this country. So where do PA, WI, OH, etc go?

Or what about an even more controversial divide: cut the country up on racial lines. We (people of different races) clearly can't stand each other and our viewpoints are diverging, not converging. Give TX, NM, AZ, etc to the Mexicans, AL, MS, GA to the blacks, HI back to the Hawaiians, AK back to the Alaskans, etc.

While you will be disgusted, I recommend people look around at The_Donald subreddit and 4chan and other pro-Trump boards to see what they are up to, they've been salivating over a civil war for at least the last year and a half. It's why I've purchased several guns for self-defense even though I am not fond of them.

There will be NO civil war. People care but people don't care enough to lose the comfort they have been accustomed to.

I don't know whether a civil war is really likely, but I wonder whether at some point an international tribunal will step in to address some of this administration's more extreme actions.

It likely won't be a full out civil war, but violence will increase, especially as the Trump administration falls and deplorables don't get what they want. They are very organized and they do have numbers, they are capable of causing mass chaos and harm to innocent people. It is why Trump will never condemn the Nazis, he fears them turning on him (though they never will, they know they will never have a President as on their side as he is).

When shit really hits the fan with Trump, some supporters will act like they never voted for him and go quiet, however the die-hards will rise up and try to take the law into their hands and that is what people need to prepare themselves for.

No international tribunal is going to gallop in and save the day.

The appropriate response here is to pull back on the fringes of both parties. It's the far right and far left factions that will promote violence and silencing of their political opponents. We need to continue to have a variety of viewpoints and discourse between people to balance this country.
