His is a bizarre story to me. He was a huge movie star on a steady rise. He made a movie about strippers that was big for him. One would think he would leverage that into better and different roles. Instead, he basically put his entire public persona into the basket of a male stripper. Every appearance he made dealt with it, and he doubled down by putting so much emphasis on his past as a stripper and a dancer. Then I think he started a male stripper road show...like, why? Most actors are scared to death of being typecast by a role. Tatum basically typecast himself on and offscreen, and with an associated image and industry that isn’t sustainable because it rejects age, and which is generally regarded as trashy. Who the fuck would do that to himself?

Tatums whole career is based off sex. He isn’t a good actor, something he’s acknowledged himself and he knows there’s an expiration date for someone like him, so he took what he knows and does best, stripping, and turned it into a Cash Cow for himself.

I respect it.

He’s not an actor that’s getting offered roles by Scorsese and he built his whole career off of being hot.

R43, It's a well known fact that a requirement for being in a strip show is that you'l also attend all of the after parties, how dancers really make their money. Perhaps they had to cast a wider net in London to fulfill all of the requirements of the position.

I think Step Up was what put him on the map. A lot of his roles involved some form of dancing.

I always think of him as the Patrick Swayze of the 21st century. A tall dancer with a great body that everyone lusts after, who has charisma and likeability, but who is not much of an actor.

It does surprise me he's never gone the superhero route. He would be an absolute natural as Superman or Captain America.

He's supposedly the choice to play the lead in the upcoming Van Helsing reboot, and there's that Gambit movie if it actually gets made.
