ICE Busting Legal Permanent Residents w/ 20 yr-old Misdemeanors

Apparently ICE is combing through ancient misdemeanors to target more illegals

Michael Kaufman, a senior staff attorney for the American Civil Liberties Union of Southern California, said the incident appears to fit a pattern under the Trump administration of detaining people with old, minor convictions.

“It’s part of a pattern that we’ve seen of rounding up people who are longstanding members of our community who have family here and settled lives here and their lives are turned upside down because they may have committed some misdemeanor deep in their past,” Kaufman said.

He's been here illegally for how long? It's time to go.

We want quality, no freeloaders and ex-crims.

This isn't just politics, it's Big Data policing.

Outcomes and promotions tied to them are measured by data produced by algorithms that may or may not have sound logic and experience behind them. No one cared when the PBAs and street cops sounded the alarm about it, and here we are. And yes, many are bigots with their own agendas, but they were right about the underlying point.

R1, he's a Legal Permanent Resident or Green Card holder.

You need to learn how to read!

The reaction to the story should be exasperation that our government took so long to identify this case and to remedy it. Proceedings should have occurred immediately after he was found guilty of the domestic abuse. It’s sad that such a crime should be regarded as a “misdemeanor”.

Give 'em the boot

by Anonymousreply 6June 13, 2018 10:56 PM

Fuck you r1. Fuck you right to hell, lying idiot. You racist pig.

by Anonymousreply 7June 13, 2018 11:31 PM

I can not believe the lowlife trumpettes who are on this board...they should be rounded up and forced to sleep with trump. Racist, ignorant shitheads. Again fuckheads, the man was legal. I know you are mostly a bunch of right wing, cunts and you are not wanted here.

ICE needs to be defunded first thing in 2021 and its chief hounded from the country. This is like fucking Gestapo. It's incredible what kind of animals people become when given free reign.

They are enforcing the laws that Congress made. It’s not law enforcement’s fault when they do what they are supposed to do, even belatedly.

Remember when the Orange Idiot said they were only going against the "bad hombres"?

by Anonymousreply 11June 14, 2018 2:07 AM

Does committing violent domestic abuse against the mother of one’s child, as this perpetrator did, make one a bad hombre, or in DL world does that only rate a meh?

"Her father completed his sentence for that conviction, which was anger management classes and reporting to probation, she said."

So, yeah, a big meh.

r13 the article is contradictory. The reporter quotes the daughter's statement that it was one misdemeanor, the ICE official is quoted as 'misdemeanors', plural.

The article is obviously biased, so I'd take it with a grain of salt. (And no, I don't support the action, but I don't like just ignoring the law, either. If you don't like it, change it.)
