Comcast has something few other businesses have: a legal monopoly.

They could bid 300 Billion and not break a sweat. They'll simply raise cable rates to make up the difference and no one will bat an eye.

Disney was not going to lose this deal. But the only winners for a while will be Fox shareholders.

Is Fox News included in the sale? Please say yes.

by Anonymousreply 5June 20, 2018 2:11 PM

r5 Sorry -- no. Nor is the network, Fox Business or the TV stations. Just the film/TV studios, cable networks, etc.

by Anonymousreply 6June 20, 2018 2:27 PM

No

They are only buying 21st Century's entertainment assets minus the Fox Broadcasting network

The only part of this deal that is interesting is that all future Star Wars movies can now have the Fox opening fanfare once again.

by Anonymousreply 8June 20, 2018 2:31 PM

What is weird about this is that Disney -- which owns Marvel -- may own the distribution rights that Fox has to some DC comicbook shows.

I'm sick of all these mergers and these corporations getting bigger. At the same time, I'm glad the Evil Mouse beat out the Worst Cable Company in World History as well as the fact that the Australian Tits and Ass Merchant no longer has ownership in the entertainment industry (just the propaganda one.)

Tickets to Disney will be raised lol

Technically yes but unlikely to happen. Twentieth and Lucasfilm won't be integrated and Disney seems intent on preserving its silo organization of the theatrical film department. 20th Century Fox will likely become what Touchstone is in the past, used to release adult-targeted pics incompatible with the Disney family-friendly brand. or with Marvel/Lucasfilm IP. I imagine the "Fox" will be drobbed to differentiate from the "New Fox" operation which will continue under Murdoch and include Fox Broadcasting and Fox News.

Not true. The regular Fox Network was not sold to Disney.
