IMO, people who think MacFarlane comes across as gay are nuts. If anything, he gives off that signature insecure/vain vibe that you often see in straight guys like Jack/David Cassidy (RIP), Donny Osmond and Christopher Knight who grew up with embodying the Prince Charming archetype (boyish good looks and charming demeanor). What people are calling "gay" is what happens when they get older. They become metrosexuals (especially meticulous about grooming, skin, etc.) in an attempt to maintain the boyish charm that they had when they were younger.

You can actually kind of tell by both The Orville and Brian on Family Guy that he's one of those guys. So far, two of his alter egos have been charming, erudite guys who keep easily attracting drop dead gorgeous females at the drop of a hat but wind up in disastrous relationships with them. This suggests two things: he keeps attracting shallow bimbos who were just into him for his looks and that he's had trouble sustaining relationships because he never really had to work hard attracting anyone.

I guess what I'm saying is yeah, he could be gay but I don't think so. He gives off too much of a vain straight metrosexual vibe than a gay vibe.
