Keep Telling Me That We’re Winning, Please

I need a shot of optimism. Trump is meeting with Kim tomorrow and the media is hailing him as a peacemaker who will end more than a half century of American-led animosity towards North Korea

Net Neutrality is dead thanks to a grinning asshole with a giant Reese’s Pieces coffee mug.

The Supreme Court is throwing roadblocks up for poor and minority voters in an effort to keep them from the polls.

Trump has destroyed our alliance with the industrialized nations of Europe, isolated the US and last but not least, put the final nail in the coffin of US world leadership.

Public opinion has gone from 62% positive to only 54% positive on the Mueller investigation. As soon as it hits 49% positive, Trump will shut it down.

Good guys are killing themselves

Oh yeah, and “We’re America, bitch.”

by Anonymousreply 1June 11, 2018 4:43 PM

Good news for Democrats.

If Trump shuts down the Mueller investigation, let's hope America is smart enough to completely turn on him.

by Anonymousreply 3June 11, 2018 4:44 PM

Well, OP, I just applied to renew my passport and I'm retired with no previous out-of-the-country travel plans.

So you know how I feel -- we might win, and we might not.

by Anonymousreply 4June 11, 2018 5:06 PM

Concern Troll OP.

If you're into astrology, it's not going to get any better until December 2020 / January 2021 when Saturn leaves Capricorn and enters Aquarius, bringing a breath of fresh air and a more hopeful future with it.

Hang on until then would be my advice, because there's two and a half more years of additional shit coming our way.

by Anonymousreply 6June 11, 2018 5:10 PM

The Act Up people have a hotline for protests that should occur after a Mueller firing. Furthermore, he's sealed indictments that cannot be torn up or ignored. Finally, we've kicked the shit out of them in just about every election since the cheating bastard got in.

This election/cheating/collusion (I see you Facebook) is the backlash we all feared. They may be nasty, but they're not stupid and know how to play the system. It's a matter of time, however, since we have the numbers and they're increasing. They know it, too and will try to incite civil disobedience on a massive scale in order to have the excuse to consolidate their power. We must remain vigilant and aware in these dangerous times.

I have no idea why anyone remains on Facebook or Instagram. The excuses are lame in the face of their complicity in the cheating of this last election.

R6, I'm afraid you're correct, no matter how much I want this bum out. A foreign friend announced several years ago that we'd be facing a crisis of our own making. We will have to make our way out of it.

That’s after the next election!

Good thing I’m not into astrology.

I pray that Trump’s latest nonsense will cause the Kochs to lose billions in foreign trade.

This is the site to sign up for a "Nobody is Above the Law" rally if Mueller is fired. There will be protests around the country the next day. Read and sign up if you wish to participate:

And don't forget that Trump's Justice Department is now actively working to take away support for preexisting conditions. If they get their way, insurance companies can, and will, block coverage for those with preexisting conditions, which was the most popular part of the Affordable Care Act.

That's both bad and good news. Bad news if they succeed and good news as it gives Democrats more fodder for pointing out just how bad the Trump administration is.

R4: me too.

by Anonymousreply 11June 11, 2018 5:58 PM

I’m heading to Manhattan if they fire Mueller. My town is too small and cynical for a protest to register. I have Irish citizenship but have no desire to emigrate. Their health care is 10x worse than ours. My aunt was hospitalized there for 2 weeks in the 90s as a tourist for something’s by that could’ve been handled in an ER visit in the US. They never even gave her an IV (and she couldn’t eat. That’s real bright). A nurse friend had a dr prescribing her drugs for Parkinson’s disease back in the 90s because her mother in Ireland had Parkinson’s disease and in they didn’t believe Parkinson’s was worth treating in Ireland. So my friend paid for the drugs and sent them to Ireland.

Now that I’m a senior citizen, emigrating to Ireland is not something I want to chance.

Thank you for this thread. I told this story in another thread. Last year Wa state was purple. One seat could go either way in a special election.

A lot of volunteers, included myself, worked to get Manka Dhingra elected in the 45th district. She won. Today we have net neutrality.

Things are bad. But this is a war, not a battle. We will lose a lot. Find allies, find a candidate you can support. Gays, Blacks, Poc, women, the elderly, sick kids, immigrants, every vulnerable group is threatened by these fascists.

Hey, OP, honest question: what are you doing about any of this? You list a lot of concerns but absolutely no action.

Seriously, what is the point of posting this? Do you think it helps?

Final time: what are YOU doing about it? I spend all my free time on political organizing now. Complaining is easy, but it accomplishes nothing. Get the fuck out of your head, off your couch, and go out and make the change happen. Because what you’re doing here? Won’t change a thing. Something makes me think you’re fine with total inaction and pointless “concern,” though.

by Anonymousreply 14June 11, 2018 7:19 PM

[quote] You list a lot of concerns but absolutely no action.

Let’s see...I signed a petition against overturning net neutrality. I sent off emails to Gillibrand and Chuck Schumer telling them to try to get net neutrality back on the legislative agenda.

I vote in every election.

I voted against Trump.

My most recent phone call was to my state assemblyman (a former Republican, now Independent) to ask that he to vote in favor of a bill to prohibit the sale of firearms to convicted domestic abusers. (He voted yea)

I have no power to cancel the upcoming US/Korean summit, R14, nor can I appoint Supreme Court justices. Like anyone else with a brain I contacted McConnell’s office and said I was in favor of allowing a senate vote to proceed for Merrick Garland, the nominee of Barack obama. I didn’t need to contact my senators, as they were already on board. For some odd reason, McConnell didn’t listen to me and take my advice.

To do see your word, he wasn’t “concerned” that I was “concerned.” I received no follow up correspondence of any kind.

I have a very nice relationship with my Republican congressman’s secretary. She recognizes my voice now when I call. I’m always polite and friendly. I give my full name and my zip code and have offered my home address (they just want the zip). I always wish her a good day and she wishes me the same. She’s not the one who votes 100% with Donald Trump, her boss is — and even if she’s a trump supporter it makes no difference. We are supposed to be open and friendly to Trump supporters so they don’t think we are suffering from elitist, globalist, anti-American, anti-military “Trump derangement syndrome.” I refuse to be rude or sound bitter or angry at her when I call. Who knows, maybe she’ll say, “progressives aren’t so bad after all” and maybe even convert one day. You never know. If Jehovah's Witnesses and Mormon missionaries can maintain their earnest friendliness, then so can I.

I donate to the DNC. I was very much against Bernie Sanders using DNC money for his presidential run and I stopped donating. Then I realized i had to continue donating because there was no other party that could mount a challenge to the NRA, which is a major cause I care about, and to successfully challenge Republican candidates. I can’t donate to Robert Mueller, though I wish I could.

I have the ability to emigrate to another country but I won’t do it.

What are your suggestions for me, R14, since you deem me inactive and pointless? I don’t need to drive anyone to the polls or register anyone to vote as I live in a very wealthy area and there is no group here who needs these services, nor is there a group who offers them in this area, or I would join Though I live in a wealthy area, I am on a restricted budget and I do my best to keep to it. I don’t know many people in the area as it was my weekend home until I retired and could no longer afford to live in NYC.
