Tab Hunter, Anthony Perkins Forbidden Love Drama in the Works From J.J. Abrams, Zachary Quinto
The true story of the secret love affair between two of the most popular leading men of Hollywood's Golden Age, Tab Hunter and Anthony Perkins, is heading to the big screen thanks to Zachary Quinto and J.J. Abrams.
Titled [bold]Tab & Tony[/bold], the Paramount drama is based on Hunter’s first-person account of his struggle to come to terms with his sexual orientation in 1950s Hollywood, an era in which being openly gay was taboo.
Abrams' Bad Robot and his Star Trek collaborator Quinto are producing along with Allan Glaser, a studio exec-turned-producer who is also Hunter's longtime partner, and Neil Koenigsberg, a legendary publicist who was the founding K in PR firm PMK.
Doug Wright will write the screenplay. Wright is a playwright who won a Pulitzer Prize for authoring the Tony-winning play I Am My Own Wife as well as penning Quills, the Off-Broadway play that was adapted in a 2000 period drama that starred Geoffrey Rush and Kate Winslet.
A search is underway for a director and actors to portray the two icons.

Timothee Chalamet would be good as Perkins, but he probably won't want to do another gay love story so soon after CMBYN

JJ Abrams???
No gay love scenes, only lots and lots of heterosexual romance.
Their gayness was a sickness, no doubt, which is why Perkins ex-gayed himself.

I read a Perkins biography and I've seen the Hunter doc. I didn't get the impression that it was any great love affair.
I'd be interested to hear Grover Dale speak extensively on his relationship with Perkins. Didn't he and his wife live below Mrs & Mrs Perkins after Grover and Tony had split?

What's Koenigsberg's stake in this, I wonder? I see he's produced the 'Tab Hunter Confidential' documentary from 2015 as well, but no much else before that. Is he Glaser's friend?

Ezra or Andrew Garfield for Perkins. With Garfield you get the closet angle as well. For Tab you need that aw shucks friendly but not too bright vibe.

JJ Abrams is one of those "liberal" straight guys who LOVE lesbians but always either don't shoe MALE homosexuality because it's icky to them or ignore it altogether
There's TONS of them
Most anti Trump stuff on the internet is straight liberal guys attacking Trump by alluding that he and Putin have a thing. They think it's hilarious because deep down inside them the worst thing a man can be is gay
The liberal media NEVER calls these guys out

Jesus, I thought DL was safe from Trump crackpots. Now R19 is here.
You know what to do, guys. The best way to make these trolls disappear is to ignore them completely. They thrive on the attention that they don't get from family/friends/any single male or female out there. Getting into an argument with them is a waste of time because they don't care about logic, they only care about getting a rise out of people.
Apply this strategy on any other site where you see a Trump troll saying stupid shit. Also, laugh at their anger as they know their orange-faced leader is about to get destroyed by Mueller, no matter how much they stick their heads in the sand or keep their TV stations on Fox News.

Summer of 1992, I worked at baseball fantasy camp at which former Red Sox outfielder Jimmy Piersall was one of the "legends". I was assigned to pick him up at the airport, take him to a personal appearance/autograph signing at a sporting goods store in the suburbs, and then back to his hotel.
As we drove to the appearance, Jimmy sorta side-eyed me and asked if I even knew who he was. (I was 24 years-old...and female). I said yes, I knew he was one of the best outfielders of his time, a 2x all-star & golden-glove winner (politely glossing over mental issues). But then he asked, "Did you know they made a movie about me?"
Oh, we're going there? Okay. "Um, yeah....but I've never seen it."
To which he replied: "Oh well, that's fine. I hated it. That FAG Tony Perkins played me in the theatrical movie, and then they had another FAG, Tab Hunter, play me in the t.v. version!"

So Piersall was a repressed closet case, then?

Except that Tab played Jimmy Piersall first in the TV version and then Tony pursued and won the film role which is, apparently, one of the reasons they broke up their relationship.

Amen,r33_the Garfield casting of Perkins is the easy part. But no one acting today has that sunny,Cali look that was Tab Hunters signature. Unless they cast an unknown IG model/actor and even Hunter would take a back seat to his own story, given the drama that Perkins life is known for...

I really don't see how this would be an interesting plot. Neither of those two actors were particularly interesting. Perkins definitely moreso than Tab Hunter (who did, at least, write an autobio where he outed himself), though. Perkins had one iconic role. Hunter had none. But, aside from seeing an accurate visual depiction of Hollywood in the 50's and 60's (vintage clothes, cars and houses, etc.) in hi-def, what story is there? Both actors stayed in the closet and did what their studios told them to do for the sake of their careers. And.....scene. What is film-worthy about that?

I always found Perkins unsexy and creepy. And it has nothing to do with his Psycho role. I recently saw him in THE ACTRESS (1953) and he was a young man...still creepy and without any sexual appeal kind of a nerdy guy...I don't get how Tab Hunter would want to hit that as he could probably get anyone at that time...That's the power of Love !

I've always been a huge Tab Hunter fan and, having seen him in so many personal appearance TV clips over many decades, he always (and still does) come across as a genuinely sincere and sweet, and dare I say, somewhat innocent and unassuming, guy.
Tony Perkins, OTOH, was just the opposite. Very paranoid and suspicious.....you can even see it in the photo at r36. And in those Roddy MacDowall Malibu home movies, Tony is the only celeb clearly uncomfortable with being filmed, even by a close friend at a private casual party.
So there's the great tension of this secret love affair between 2 huge young male stars who are entirely different in every way but their sexual preference. I'm very intrigued and hope it gets an arty and quirky take, not unlike Gods and Monsters....not just a straight up double bio pic.
Tony Award-winning Broadway playwright Doug Wright (I Am My Own Wife) is writing the screenplay, so there's hope.

Tab Hunter, Out of the Hollywood Closet and in His Own Words.-
"The film takes a good long look at Hunter’s affairs with athletes and actors, including the elusive Anthony Perkins who was more protective of his sexuality before dying, still married to wife Berry Berenson, of AIDS-related causes in 1992. Can you imagine two stars like Hunter and Perkins showing up together at a movie premiere today? The world would end.
Hunter meanwhile maintained camera-friendly relationships with women including pal Natalie Wood and French actress Etchika Choureau, who barely spoke English and almost married him."

I like Tab a lot more than Anthony. Anthony died closeted and involved/marrried to women, claiming that homosexuality was immoral. Fuck that self-loathing dipshit. Tab eventually came out, and before that, had begged his manager to let him do Polyester, which pretty much outed him in 1980. I hope Tab enjoyed tapping Anthony's ass, but he was far more cool (and hot) than Anthony.

The film will never be made unless they can secure a name, and since there are so few name actors who can pull off Tony Perkins (literally, it’s just Andrew Garfield) there is a very small chance of this being made. If it does up get made, it will still probably go only to streaming, given that it lacks the traditional “weepy” nature of these types of gay movies which generally make them more commercial to mainstream audiences.
