Praying is a fucking amazing song, and I'm generally not a fan of pop music. It is just a good song. She also has a great voice: good intonation, good pitch. She's certainly better than the majority of singers out there. I think she has an image problem. Part of her charm in the beginning was that she appeared somewhat amateurish and "regular," and somewhat awkward. That has its charms, but the pop world wants its starts to be superhuman and inhuman. They have to be warriors, not the fat girl down the street you didn't know could sing, and who can't do a somersault or dance for shit. The Dr Luke case didn't help, either. It got her branded, not as a leader in the me too movement, but as a complainer. And, fuck, I'd have sex with Dr Luke for nothing! I wish her well. I feel bad for her. I think she is a sensitive girl who was processed through the music marketing machine at a young age and exploited to the extreme. When you look at her now, it seems clear that the trashiness of her early music was not really demonstrative of her actual artistic convictions. I remember hearing an interview with her from some time ago where she was asked if she liked to party and get wasted as her music indicated, and she said she didn't—IIRC, she said she liked to stay at home and read. She's a classic case of an artist being exploited by her label and producer—she's not unique in that, aside from the rape allegations.
