I must have known pretty young because the first three that came to mind were:
She-Ra
Cheetara from Thundercats
Rogue from the X-Men cartoon
The first real person was probably Jo on Facts of Life. To this day, I still like women with dark hair.

R12 try visiting a lesbian bar and see if they welcome you with those same open arms lol
by Anonymous | reply 13 | June 4, 2018 6:24 AM |
agree with R12 - there are a handful of nasty gay men on this board who say the most inappopriate and juvenile shit about women and lesbians.
I hope the women on this board know that this is a handful of damaged men and doesn't represent the general gay male population. I LOVE lesbians - always loved their down-to-earth quality and sense of humor.
And as I wrote this, R13 chimes in...sigh. I wish I could vote out some gay men from our community.

Of course it does. The damaged, nasty, bigoted, racist, misogynist on DL are indicative of the "general gay male population".

by Anonymous | reply 28 | June 4, 2018 6:01 PM |
As a gay I don’t like Bomer. #1 his butt is flat and tanned and then he seems animatronic and I would be too jealous and possessive over someone with those eyes.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | June 4, 2018 6:03 PM |
Weird shit = saying how hot Alia Shawkat or Gabby Hoffman is. Good examples of ‘weird shit’, own it lesbians
by Anonymous | reply 30 | June 4, 2018 6:04 PM |
Second here for Diana Rigg/Emma Peel. That leather cat suit, her whole attitude, everything about that woman. It was mostly her ability to hold her own with anyone in the room that was the big turn on. Intellect and hutzpuh with legs that went on forever.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | June 4, 2018 8:26 PM |
Nice pic and piece about her for the younger ones who don't remember the hokey, cold war days of spy comedies
by Anonymous | reply 33 | June 4, 2018 8:30 PM |
I saw Julie Newmar in the movie "Lil Abner" as "Stupefyin' Jones", a countrified version of her perfection as Catwoman. And Cher...
There were numerous celebrity women in the 60s and 70s who were gorgeous. I would have been happy with most girls next door, if I could have been honest with myself back then.

[R12] I welcome gay men in lesbian bars I wish we had more spaces for both gay men and lesbians. However when it’s creepy straight men, straight couples, or “trans women” is where I draw the line.
Oftentimes when I travel oversees most of the gay bars I find usually cater to the gay community as a whole with both gay men and sprinkling of of lesbians. I’ve had nothing but positive experiences in these establishments.

R37, you probably know that Brigitte, at 54, is expecting (a baby).

I was a child of the '70s & a teen of '80s. Like R37, I felt a certain simpatico with Jodie Foster & Kristy McNichol (who were my age) that I couldn't quite describe. I was also very drawn to Lindsay Wagner, Kate Jackson, and Stephanie Zimbalist....and then later (early 20's) Dana Delany & Marg Helgenberger. They were all screaming "Lesbian!" at me (not that *they* were, but *I* was......)

I never paid much attention to celebrities, but when I was five True Lies was on, and just as I was getting ready for bed, the strip scene came on, and I found myself entranced. My parents ushered me out of the room, but I pleaded with them that I was mature enough to handle it. They didn't buy it. I definitely knew I wouldn't be straight from that point on, but I wasn't sure yet if I would be bi or lesbian.
Then when I was ten, I was watching Man on the Moon with my parents, and there was a scene where he's with some women (I think they were hookers) and they're bouncing around on a bed and the women's breasts are bare. I got so red in the face that my parents commented on it, saying that I must be getting embarrassed and turned to something else. Um, embarrassed wasn't it. I ended up excusing myself anyway. It was kind of like that scene from the Seinfeld episode The Contest, when after seeing the naked woman Kramer leaves Jerry's apartment and returns a few minutes later, no longer a contender.

R46 mentioned Lauren Holly and Gillian Anderson, which were both my first two female crushes. I think I first realized I liked girls when I was 12 or 13 watching the tv show PICKET FENCES when it was first on, I think it was the episode when she had to find the Cupid killer and was wearing a tight dress or something ...I realized I liked redheads too lol. Next year thought the same thing when I saw Gillian on X FILES. Something about those two back in 90s. My gaydar totally went off even both have been married to men in real life. Current celebrity crushes: Emma Stone and Christina Hendricks.

Grade school- definitely took notice to Christina Ricci in Now and Then ( I was a tomboy and so was she) and Reese in Man on the Moon. High school- Courtney cox in scream 2. Then came Angelina and I was a goner. She takes the most credit. PS love this thread and appreciate the kind comments upthread about being nice to lesbians who are usually bashed here.

Can someone explain why so many women are attracted to Cate Blanchett? Am I missing something?
by Anonymous | reply 67 | June 7, 2018 12:47 AM |
R67 ...well she is talented, beautiful in a “handsome” way, is aging well & naturally, seems like a decent person...she’s also played a man (bob bylan) which is hot and a lesbian in CAROL, making out with a hot Rooney Mara. As a lesbian I am attracted to classy actresses who have a “butch” side but are mostly fem.
by Anonymous | reply 68 | June 7, 2018 12:58 AM |

R79 LMAO!! Girls didn’t talk about masturbation at all in my day and I spent my early teen years flicking it to the underwear section of my moms catalogues before finally realising this was not how the other girls were spending Friday nights.
For me it was Adrienne Barbeau during Maude.

I was 5, and I had just seen the Superman movie with Christopher Reeve. I bought some Superman baseball cards, and I kept staring at the "Superman's Mom" card featuring actress Susannah York. Something about her, but I didn't know what. Then, when I was 12, I watched Dynasty, and became enamored with Joan Collins (who didn't?). I guess it's always been older women for me.

Why Cate Blanchett?
She is tall and definitely pretty enough. She is very funny and quick which makes her that much more attractive. Ironically, she did not look her best in Carol — the hair and make-up were not becoming imo. Her Blue Jasmine performance just blew me away. Totally amazing.
Speaking of tall, Nicole Kidman comes to mind. I don’t know too many women into Nicole K, but wow her body does not quit.
by Anonymous | reply 95 | June 8, 2018 5:12 PM |
Not too hard to be ok with ourselves, but it seems it will be some time before others can deal with our cakes and weddings.
Audrey Hepburn in Sabrina was, for me, the turning point of knowingness.

R95 I was so attracted to Cate in BABEL. That was the movie that did it for me .Nicole K—you are right, I don’t hear a lot of lesbians mention her. Something about her attitude and acting never did it for me. Looks wise, she was always a little too made up for me since the 90s but I guess she looked her best in TO DIE FOR and BATMAN FOREVER.

Bump, only because there is not enough lesbian therads. I want to hear more answers !
by Anonymous | reply 106 | June 10, 2018 5:23 PM |
None. I just knew from the girls around me at school. That's who I had the hots for, celebrities didn't register much although I did like to watch stories on TV and at the movies. Celebrities were way older than me, that could also have been why. There were plenty of girls to pick from at school.
The first person in a movie that got me feeling "something", not really knowing what it was, but like she was communicating with me across space, was Kelly McGillis in Witness. That was my gaydar working, I guess.
by Anonymous | reply 110 | June 10, 2018 6:47 PM |
Very funny that you should mention that episode R65, I remember it so well. Also, strangely, I remember figuring out the gay storyline very early on. And watched that lesbian date with Lauren Holly (whole 30 seconds of it!) over and over and over again (we had taped that episode). Lauren Holly was very cute then.

The earliest gay memory I have is when I was a child, and I saw Jodie Foster in that Mark Twain movie, was it Huckleberry Finn? I just can't remember. She was a spirited tomboy, same age as myself, and I can still remember how my heart sped up when she was onscreen. God, what was the name of that movie?
Later on I followed up with Barbara Feldon from Get Smart, Doris Day, Betty Jo Bradley, Ann-Margret, Dyan Cannon, Carol Burnett, Julie Andrews, Diane Lane, Alfre Woodard, Bette Davis and that Brit from Laugh-In.

R111 yes she was! And I remember that scene when the lesbian showed up at the restaurant lol. And Holly Marie Combs was cute too. I didn’t get the lesbian reference on the Cupid episode until the episode when Kimberly kisses another girl—I think that was when I figured out that being a lesbian was still sort of scandalous back then.
But yeah anyways...

R116 you & I sound a lot alike ... I used the watch that show every Friday night at 10 pm I think it was on. My mom thought it was too much of an “ adult” show for me to watch but she couldn’t stop me from watching it. And The Cupid/Be My Valentine episode was the best episode of that show, but there were so many good episodes. It was disappointing to me years later to see Holly on NCIS & she was starting to fuck around with the fillers & now she looks nothing like she once did. The characters of Max and Gillian’s Scully on X FILES stood out to me as a budding lez because both were sort of butch, but not. Strong, tough female characters, but hot too lol.

[quote] Well, she has had some androgynous looks, is not a bimbo type, has been in some good movies, and is Australian.
R68/R69 I fell for Emily Browning for much the same reasons. She can shift so easily between 'dreamy soft-butch', 'down-to-Earth chapstick', or 'cute-glam femme'. She's played in some intelligent films, too.
by Anonymous | reply 128 | July 25, 2018 6:08 PM |
My earliest romantic crushes: Christina Ricci (loml when I was 5 years old); Joanne Whalley; Amber Benson; Alicia Silverstone (especially in the drag for the 'Crazy' Aerosmith video); and the 'Reckless Chick' in all those Bryan Adams' videos (internet says she is Brit and her name is Lysette Anthony. He's gay anyway, right?).
When older, I would jones less for cute perky girls and more for witchy divas & curvaceous dark-goddess-y types with more overtly seductive or sexual qualities. Strangely Ange J. was never really my deal though, except in Lara Croft which I first saw on a tv in my aunt's house uncomfortably squirming the entire movie. Perhaps the British accent and the body-fat above 0% made her seems sexier to me than usual, idk.

Eva Longoria and Monica Belluci challenged my assumptions about my sexuality, though I usually don't notice celebrities that much.
Someone on another thread called Eva overrated as a sex symbol. I disagree, though she's more pretty than beautiful.
