The Americans Final Episode

Here we are, how will this magnificent television series end 2 hours from now?

Is Renee’ KGB, Mossad or CIA?

Who takes a cyanide pill, does either Phillip or Elizabeth die at all? 1 hour left to post your theories.

I am really going to miss this show - Kerri Russell has been fantastic - she is the heir to a new generations of spies - not to take anything away from Clare Danes. Jonathan Rhys has been such a fully developed character, everything from an assassin to Mr. Mom - same for Kerri - she is a total trip as she slowly begins to see the flaws in the old Soviet regime, has doubts about the violence Paige may face and wants her spying in a nice safe State Department job.

Brooklyn it has been fun seeing you featured week after week. I loved seeing the subway stops in the background - stay Brooklyn Strong!

This show should have ratings through the roof...

That was a relief... pretty clear Russia remains an option for one person still. God revisiting the safe house was very intense.

Now we know... “Drink a glass of olive oil......” thats going to be a bitch of a hangover.

Just a fantastic show, amazing ending, Stan was true to character - all “G Man” until he wasn’t.

by Anonymousreply 2May 31, 2018 4:50 AM

Very tense ending. Well done. Stan had to let them go, he couldnt murder Henry’s parents or imprison them. Henry would hate him forever - so would Page. Stan actually did Love Henry and had been thrilled to see Matthew and Paige hookup. Russell and Rhys scene in the garage was a heart stopper - never lay on the floor! Great bit about Renee - that was a friend indeed.

Henry can see them in Russia, Paige can also. She was innocent and there is no one to tie her to any of it.

Stan cant stay in the FBI, he doesnt want to decide between Renee and life without Renee. He cares deeply which is why he didnt shoot the Jennings.

by Anonymousreply 4May 31, 2018 5:12 AM

Rewatch Renees wistful look at their home, a tiny inkling of a nod/pride. She is definitely KGB. Major love story now - the way Philip runs to Elizabeth on the train. Elizabeth was destroyed by that... she was struggling with Henry.

by Anonymousreply 5May 31, 2018 5:20 AM

Maybe Elizabeth struggled with Henry because she spent zero time with him growing up.

by Anonymousreply 6May 31, 2018 5:44 AM

Henry was the simplest part of Elizabeths life, asking nothing, expecting less. He made it so easy for her to love him, esp because he could surprise her like excelling in Math - she was quite a proud and surprised Mom. That was a GREAT gift to her as a parent. I agree with Todd Van Der Werff Vox critic “ (The little gasp Keri Russell gives when Elizabeth realizes leaving Henry in the US is the right call is Emmy-worthy in itself.) ” It was a sock in the gut- but Elizabeth thinks fast, A-Z now in only two modes Deepest tested Love and Survival.” Her Henry would be safe and live a good life - they can and will visit.

Knowing the History of START was quite exciting. This went on to become a very significant treaty signed by all of Europe during the Clinton Administration. It was a giant deal and stopped the nuclear countdown clock. I remember when it was signed - it added tremendous strength to the creation of the EU - ending wars creating shared Economic strength. START was the beginning of serious World Peace.

This collection of reviews are really something - I agree. A great Romantic tale, and these two wind up Hero’s. What a story.

"Paige can also. She was innocent and there is no one to tie her to any of it."

Paige WASN'T innocent. Staying in the U.S. means she can no longer be Paige.

by Anonymousreply 9May 31, 2018 6:37 AM

Paige never killed anyone, she was never seen. She was a lookout at best. If as you say she needed to maintain cover she knew where to find it. My hunch is she would return to Canada after contacting Henry. Plus she had the skill set to survive. One thing for sure no man was ever going to Rough her up. Kudos to Elizabeth for that.

by Anonymousreply 10May 31, 2018 3:12 PM

Uh, Paige saw Eliz in the forest (whatever) with the man she had just killed. Blood all over the man and Eliz. She may have accepted her Mom's lie that she had to defend herself at that moment but Paige since learned much more about her blood-thirsty killer of a Mom. Ridiculous to say paige was in any way innocent.

[quote]Jonathan Rhys has been such a fully developed character

His name is MATTHEW Rhys, and he's an actor, not a character.

by Anonymousreply 12May 31, 2018 7:55 PM

Renee is full on KGB - there was a split second flash of stiffening spine, deep admiration as she stared at their home infested with Feds.

Her function would have been to be backup for E&P, dont forget that the Center had heard that an FBI agent had moved in across the street from thier #1 Team. She was there to protect them and would only break character if there was a confrontation.

i also enjoyed the last episode. I can't believe it's over! now there are no spy shows to watch!

by Anonymousreply 14June 1, 2018 3:36 AM

"She may have accepted her Mom's lie that she had to defend herself" That wasn't the lie, r11. The lie was that the man killed himself. Viewers know Paige was not innocent, but I don't think the Jennings told Stan anything incriminating, other than Paige saying she has known since she was age 16. If Paige is a good liar, I could see her remaining in the U.S. without charges.

But something has bugged me about Paige and what she knows. How did she not hear about the sailor being stabbed in the throat on the street? She knew his name, and the murder would have been in the newspapers and on TV.

by Anonymousreply 15June 6, 2018 12:57 PM

Paige was a pretty busy teen, school, learning hand to hand combat with Mom. She just didn’t seem to be a teen with a lot of time to sit around and watch the evening local news. The Jennings kept national news on but that appeared to be all.

Also Paige did say “I knew” at 16, but she wasnt certain - she only knew they different secret lives. There was virtually nothing around that could have signaled her they were Soviet spy’s. Saying “I knew” didn’t amount to a whole lot in this case.

Also I dont think that she was expecting the Feds to arrest her or pick her up at Claudia’s - it was evident by the surprise on her face she had hoped Claudia would still be there to save her. That was all she knew of the woman - a friend that liked her and was interested in her welfare. Paige could have as easily returned to Canada - she knew how to do that know if she had the funds. Missing this show so much.

Great show! I just finished it. Good ending, too.

by Anonymousreply 17June 11, 2018 2:58 AM

I am late to the party, really enjoyed it. My only wish was to see Martha one more time hopefully more happy raising the daughter she adopted.

by Anonymousreply 18February 7, 2019 9:40 AM

I felt gutted for Martha. Truly the unsung hero of the show in some ways, she was responsible for a lot of the palpable emotion.

I was fascinated by Renee but still not sure about the KGB thing. Is a simple look enough to say for certain she was? I kind of wish they had teased that a little more. But at the same time it was perfectly modulated just the way it was, given that i'm still pondering it a year after the show finished.

by Anonymousreply 19February 7, 2019 11:12 AM

I thought maybe Renee was CIA keeping an eye on Stan but it did seem extreme to actually marry him. So assuming she is KGB.

Could never stand Paige, the actress is just awful with the eyepopping and sad faces. AACK!

Elizabeth was a stone cold bitch, she really did neglect Henry.

by Anonymousreply 20February 8, 2019 5:41 AM

Point of fact: there were many KGB agents that actually did marry “Martha’s” across the US.

They were a reallity. I would seriously like to see some sort of published material on this, esp given the TREASONOUS map shift of the GOP into Putin loving mini despots. There could also be a parallel investigation of American males that fell for “Butina’s”. My only concern would be if such a project would give away too much counter intelligence trade craft.

Incredible this stuff goes on with Russia. I mean what American would move to a shit hole like Russia to marry for access?

Lee Harvey Oswald?

by Anonymousreply 22February 9, 2019 7:00 PM

I can't imagine being like Renee and actually marrying somebody and living day to day life with somebody if you are KGB
