Is Madonna today’s Joan Crawford?

Her obsession with youth, desperately trying to stay relevant, her weird relationship with her kids (adoption, one of her kids running away from her etc) and her general weirdness I see the similarity

Madonna doesn't have an Oscar...

by Anonymousreply 1May 27, 2018 11:59 AM

Joan was one of the screen's original great beauties. I will be discreet and not hammer out the many ways that fact disqualifies Madonna from being compared to Joan Crawford.

by Anonymousreply 2May 27, 2018 12:01 PM

Well OP they are both narcissists and therefore similar. However I wouldn't be surprised if Madonna is even more unpleasant than Joan was. No, I wouldn't be surprised at all

by Anonymousreply 3May 27, 2018 12:04 PM

I’ll allow it.

by Anonymousreply 4May 27, 2018 12:04 PM

A remake of "Baby Jane" with Madonna and Lady Gaga.

Joan was never as successful and rich as Madonna. So there is that.

by Anonymousreply 6May 27, 2018 12:15 PM

They are prime examples of THE TRIUMPH OF THE WILL. This is beyond a question of mere talent or looks.

by Anonymousreply 7May 27, 2018 1:05 PM

Obsession with youth and trying to stay relevant describes most of show business.

by Anonymousreply 8May 27, 2018 1:09 PM

Joan Crawford never walked around looking crazy either. Yeah I know she had a hard steely look to her in the 1950s. Joan always looked natural compared to Madonna.

So there's that.

by Anonymousreply 9May 27, 2018 1:40 PM

Lourdes is NOT one of her FAAAAAAAANNNNNSSSSSS.

by Anonymousreply 10May 27, 2018 1:55 PM

[quote]Is Madonna today’s Joan Crawford?

No, because she's not a child abuser.

by Anonymousreply 11May 27, 2018 1:57 PM

No, of course Joan didn't walk around looking crazy, R9.

She rode backwards on an airport cart looking crazy.

OP: No.

by Anonymousreply 13May 27, 2018 3:04 PM

I will never understand the need for a few on here to find ways to trash and insult Miss Crawford's memory. Miss Crawford was a complicated woman who had demons, like we all have demons. She was also a beautiful woman who fought for and got a career where her looks were not only her value, but her judge, jury and executioner. Those of you who try to put the complexities of one woman in a box and use that to compare her to some two bit vulgarity should hang your heads in shame.

by Anonymousreply 14May 27, 2018 3:18 PM

After that Pepsi debacle with Like A Prayer, I assume she drinks Coke. So, no.

by Anonymousreply 15May 27, 2018 3:30 PM

OP You dare to put those names in the same sentence? Turn in your gay card.

by Anonymousreply 16May 27, 2018 3:33 PM

No r5 a remake with Madonna and Sharon Stone.

by Anonymousreply 17May 27, 2018 3:33 PM

crawford was obsessed with fame not youth. crawford worked hard to achieve and maintain movie stardom. madonna is similarly obsessed with fame/power but i dont see a relevant comparison between the two women.

by Anonymousreply 18May 27, 2018 4:15 PM

They are/were both former dancers, who, with steely determination and will, lifted themselves up from their humble beginnings and carved out successful careers and dominated their respective fields at one time, despite their many detractors questioning their talents.

Both have/had an air of pretentiousness, with Crawford casting herself as the grande doyenne of showbiz morality, dispensing advice and criticizing those who behaved disgracefully. And who can forget Madonna's Lady of the Manor phase, speaking in clipped Queen's English and feeding chickens on her country estate, while wearing heels and great lady wardrobe.

And with their glory days in the past, both refuse(d) to go quietly in the night.

by Anonymousreply 19May 27, 2018 5:02 PM

Madonna is not obsessed with youth..she is a POP/ROCKS star. her music is for young people, how does she suppose to behave like your grandma going to church, silly people

by Anonymousreply 20May 27, 2018 5:58 PM

I was in Bay City, Michigan the weekend of Madonna's grandma funeral. She was cruising around town in a 135,000 BMW with driver. She sat in the back looking like Marlena Dietrich in 20s style nakeup and a velvet suit with high collar. She was a tad out of place in her evening drive around this town with nothing even relating to her..Somethong eas more evil with Joan than even child abuse.

by Anonymousreply 21June 25, 2018 9:35 AM

Joan had some talent, so no.

Madonna is in MJ territory, living in a bubble. Her face is also falling apart like his.

by Anonymousreply 22June 25, 2018 9:42 AM

[quote] her music is for young people,

lmao.

by Anonymousreply 23June 25, 2018 9:42 AM

AKA, I only know about Joan Crawford from Ryan Murphy's bs third wave mini-series.

by Anonymousreply 24June 25, 2018 9:43 AM

Madonna got involved with a cult. Don't recall Joan ever doing that.

by Anonymousreply 25June 25, 2018 9:44 AM

Miss Madonna is actually more beautiful than Miss Crawford. There I said it.

by Anonymousreply 26June 25, 2018 10:03 AM

I don't see many similarities. Joan was pretty consistent in her public persona for decades. She acted like a regal, elegant, classy, star. Madonna has only been interested in that very very rarely and most times specifically NOT interested an elegant public image.

I don't know, but never got the impression Madonna is especially weird with her children.

Madonna seems far too earthy and sensual to offer many comparisons to Joan Crawford, artistically.

This is, finally, a brain shart by the op.

by Anonymousreply 27June 25, 2018 10:15 AM

Madonna is a narcissistic sociopath. Her children are going to write books when she croaks.

by Anonymousreply 28June 25, 2018 12:05 PM

Superficially, at least according to their respective myths, there are similarities. Over coming adversity in their childhood (Joan, poverty and no father; Madonna, the death of her mother and an abusive father). Clawing their way to the top of their respective industries, using their sexuality as their primary currency (for Joan this was all on the hush, for Madonna it was out in the open) despite never considered the most talented. Madonna's image transformations have become legend to a perhaps excessive extent, but Joan also had a few transformations before settling into her frigid gorgon elder stateswoman of Hollywood schtick in the mid-1950s. Ultimately, the thing that seems to link them to the most is their insistance on continualy imposing themselves on the public whether the public likes it or not, and this is not just something they did in the latter part of their careers, but throughout, a continual refusal to be dismissed as passe.

by Anonymousreply 29June 25, 2018 12:09 PM

I've always thought of Angie Voight-face as today's Joan Crawford.

by Anonymousreply 30June 25, 2018 12:11 PM

R28 yes, I've long believed Madonna is a genuine textbook sociopath. I think Crawford was severely mentally ill, but not a sociopath.

by Anonymousreply 31June 25, 2018 12:17 PM

[quote]Is Madonna today’s Joan Crawford?

Don't be silly. Madonna was never an accomplished actress.

by Anonymousreply 32June 25, 2018 11:53 PM

I would give anything to see that Joan Crawford "Red Weirdo" short remade with Madonna shopping for paella ingredients at a supermarket.

by Anonymousreply 33June 26, 2018 12:13 AM

r29, don't forget the diehards stans who refused to admit their idol is passé.

by Anonymousreply 34June 26, 2018 12:15 AM

Both were/are also rigid control freaks obsessed with loyalty among their staff, and both were/are exceedingly jealous of rivals, particularly younger ones (Joan with Marilyn Monroe, Madonna with Lady Gaga).

by Anonymousreply 35June 26, 2018 12:19 AM

Yes if Joan was around today she would be EXACTLY the same as madonna

by Anonymousreply 36June 26, 2018 9:07 PM

Madonna’s father wasn’t abusive, she was favored by him among the children. I agree, Joan had issues, likely mental illness...madonna is a toxic narcissist. Range of emotions are pure fabrications. Steely self interest.

Joan seemed victim to her insecurities

by Anonymousreply 37June 26, 2018 9:18 PM

Madonna is to Joan Crawford what Anna Nicole Smith was to Marilyn Monroe.

by Anonymousreply 38June 26, 2018 9:21 PM

Hey Anna Nicole Smith wasn’t a crazy bitch... she was crazy but not a bitch!

by Anonymousreply 39June 26, 2018 11:07 PM

No. Joan Crawford could act.

by Anonymousreply 40June 26, 2018 11:47 PM

Joan Crawford is a movie star, Madonna is a cheap Italian whore end. Of.

by Anonymousreply 41June 30, 2018 1:59 AM

Joan was an actress who has an Oscar and was one of the biggest stars of the 30's. To say she wasn't successful means that you are an idiot, R6. She became as successful in her career as she could possibly get.

by Anonymousreply 42June 30, 2018 2:04 AM

Madge does Joan
