WHY do all these celebs join this sicko cult to begin with?

Most of them were already well established stars when they go involved, what does this cult offer them career-wise? It really doesn't make sense at all why so many celebs are drawn to this weirdo cult.

by Anonymousreply 1May 27, 2018 3:21 AM

R1 First, They make you feel like your a part of a family and this can be very inviting especially if you have low self esteem or your going through a bad patch in your life. Secondly the speed at which they control you is very very slow. You don't realise what's happening to you until they have you convinced they have your wellbeing at heart. which of course they don't. Then there is the fact that at this stage they probably have secrets about you they have all your personal details.

Sometimes its not the junky or the bank robber we have to worry about because if we are smart we can see them coming but the girl or guy who is welcoming and smiling can lead to are own destruction. The Devil is a gentleman.

David Miscavige and another top executive had a great fun over details David Miscavige found in Lisa Marie Presley’s folder as overheard by Amy Scobee.

OP is a troll

by Anonymousreply 7May 27, 2018 3:49 AM

Cruise, Alley and Travolta cause me to flip the channel whenever they show up on my screen. I didn’t realize until recently about the Scientology connection. There is just something about them (Cruise in particular) that seems so phony and contrived.

by Anonymousreply 8May 27, 2018 3:49 AM

R7 OP = Tom Cruise Troll

by Anonymousreply 9May 27, 2018 3:51 AM

Scientology book claims to reveal celebrity member’s private details. The author Amy Scobee has refused to back down from her allegations , she writes that she has personally witnessed while in the office of David Miscavige, take a phone call in her presence from another top church executive. During this phone conversation Scobee revealed that the two men found great amusement as they dished the dirt on a female celebrity who was closely connected with Michael Jackson. Scobee states that she believed the celebrity to have been the daughter of Elvis Presley, Lisa Marie Presley.

[quote]“Jerry Seinfeld and Russell Crowe realized what the church was about, and ran like hell after they toyed with becoming members!”

I don't know about Russell Crowe, but Jerry Seinfeld has only good things to say about it. Some of their exercises or whatever you want to call them helped with his confidence on stage. However he didn't go very far into the programs they offer. He did the superficial stuff that helped as a performer and left. he refuses to hear any criticism about scientology though.

by Anonymousreply 12May 27, 2018 4:11 AM

[quote]Travolta looks like Gustav Aschenbach in OP's linked photo.

I think he looks like the Joker, only more constipated.

by Anonymousreply 13May 27, 2018 5:21 AM

I have zero sympathy for people who join this cult. There are many decades of documented abuses against members, as well as defectors, and all their religious materials are easily obtained on-line. Only fools spend millions toward advocating a system of tyranny.

Too, If the “bridge”isn’t free, it’s not worth consideration because money only buys you what’s available in a material world.

David Miscavige has a taste for expensive scotch and hand tailored suits. And there are many idiots willing to forge him a bridge to the store where he can buy himself what his itty bitty heart desires.

by Anonymousreply 14May 27, 2018 5:22 AM

Crowe talked a bit about Scientology and Tom Cruise back a few years ago. He stated he had met Cruise because he (Crowe) was friends with Nicole Kidman.

This clip is from 2015 and he laughs about not seeing Cruise since the breakup with Kidman.

I never knew John Travota was in Twilight. Who's the woman on the right? Sigorney Weaver?

by Anonymousreply 16May 27, 2018 7:15 AM

R12 That's because he's in deeper than he (and the church) wants people to know.

by Anonymousreply 17May 27, 2018 7:23 AM

I can't believe all these Hollywood people would throw away their religions for Scientology. Like it doesn't make sense. I've really wanted to go to a Scientology meeting to see what the heck it's all about. Something must be appealing to these people, but what is it?

by Anonymousreply 18May 27, 2018 8:08 AM

About thirty ago I ran into a guy I knew from college. He and another guy were in a burger joint trying to convert a third guy to Scientology. When the "Come to Xenu" session ended he came over and sat in my booth and we got caught up.

Since he was a CoS employee I asked if he was well-paid. He said, "I earn enough. And whatever I have left over I usually spend on courses at the Church. They give me a discount." He then said the CoS was giving him "the incredible opportunity" to go out west in a few months and take some special course that cost several thousand dollars.

Then, of course, he tried to convert me. I used a little Philosophy 101 on him and he said, "You know, you're so smart I bet you'd do well as a Scientology instructor." I thought to myself, "Well, if I'm that fucking smart I'll start my own religion."

For a year or so after that I'd see him outside the local CoS, trying to lure college students in to take "personality tests." Whenever he invited me to come in I'd say I was late for an appointment.

Scientology's appeal in Hollywood is about connections where you join the cult and the members take care of your career as a writer, actor, director, etc. At least that was until all the bad press made it impossible for (new) Scientology members to be taken seriously by non-Scientology members and, as it turns out, Scientology, and its members, not being that big of a player in Hollywood after all.

Personally I am too cheap to even pay for some basic courses to better myself at the Scientology Center. And one of my best LOL moments on Datalounge was reading though that thread that was about all these fancy titles Scientology members get when they donate tons of money to Scientology.

by Anonymousreply 20May 27, 2018 8:57 AM

r18 since it is not a religion, its presented as compatible with all faiths. its presented as a tool to improve your life. by the time youre roped in good, its too late to hop back out. for example, dianetics is scientology. dianetics was the gateway for many people, presumbably the travolta and cruise types. there are hints of whats to come (the exploding volcano) but one can never reach the upper echelon of scientology (its core teaching) until one has dropped big money on coursework. i didnt connect dianetics with scientology until defectors starting telling their stories. see nxium for another example of how the con works

All you have to know about this cult is that it declared itself a religion for tax purposes. It's a scam to make the leader, or leaders, money and all powerful.

And isn't there a greater scam than to pay for the privilege to be someone's slave and having to do his bidding (either by your own free will or being blackmailed with stuff you revealed in your confessions)?

by Anonymousreply 22May 27, 2018 9:11 AM

[quote]Most of them were already well established stars when they go involved, what does this cult offer them career-wise? It really doesn't make sense at all why so many celebs are drawn to this weirdo cult.

Makes a shit ton of sense to me. It’s really no different than a celebrity becoming a Christian later in life. It’s a fucking religion that gives you absolution if you pay them enough--sound familiar? In Kirstie Alley’s case, I think they helped with her cocaine addiction, and she stayed which is very similar to AA directing members to religion to assist with sobriety. Also, they’re not slumming because they are with like-minded (or wealthy) people that UNDERSTAND what they are going through because they are also special!

by Anonymousreply 23May 27, 2018 9:18 AM

r1 (and others) This article about a cult infiltrator is a great look inside the bizarre and terrifying world of cults. It's a good read, if you're interested.

[quote][R18] since it is not a religion

Ahh...but it IS a religion.

by Anonymousreply 25May 27, 2018 9:20 AM

R23, don't besmirch a faith just because you see people who appear to falsely embrace it. Christianity in and of itself doesn't deserve the comparison with Scientology.

by Anonymousreply 26May 27, 2018 11:01 AM

Beginning from right to left, OP's photo looks like the before, during and after stages, pic of Scientology conversion.

Kirstie Alley looks scary looks she's wearing a mask, is that plastic surgery or just too much make up

Think Scientology holds some of the other member's in as they're either socio/psychopathic themselves. Or if get to the higher levels they get off on lording it over and abusing the slaves of the lower level ( Tom Cruise)

by Anonymousreply 27May 27, 2018 12:51 PM

Christianity ( and all other religion ) is just Scientology plus time R26

by Anonymousreply 28May 27, 2018 1:01 PM

Jerry seems too cynical for Scientology? Do they have blackmail on him?

by Anonymousreply 29May 27, 2018 1:03 PM

Im not R26 but R28, key differences between cults and religion is whether you can get info for free, and leave anytime

I am no longer a practicing Catholic, but anyone can read all of their dogma, talk to a priest or other religious about the stance on imp issues , go to Mass for free and (like many Catholics) leave at any time.

Cults are not open about their beliefs, will charge you to find out their beliefs, and threaten you and your family if you try to leave.

You can choose not to believe in religious doctrine, but true religions do not hold you captive and withold food and medical treatment.

by Anonymousreply 30May 27, 2018 3:56 PM

R18 After years of being denied tax-free status as a religion, the Internal Revenue Service caved. They probably had dirt on the heads of the IRS.

by Anonymousreply 31May 27, 2018 4:09 PM

Where is Shelley Miscavige? Can't believe they haven't been required to produce her since people filed legal inquiries.

by Anonymousreply 32May 27, 2018 4:21 PM

Bruce Willis may be many things, but if this

[quote] “Ghost” star Demi Moore quit her studies with the religion after hooking up with Bruce Willis, because he didn’t want his future kids raised as Scientologists.

is true, then good for him.

by Anonymousreply 33May 27, 2018 8:59 PM

[quote] WHY do all these celebs join this sicko cult to begin with?

Because a sizeable number of celebrities are people with low self esteem, low levels of self confidence, don't possess the ability to see a fraud for a fraud, and are frankly not very bright. They're suckered in because they're very needy people.

by Anonymousreply 34May 27, 2018 11:15 PM

[quote]After years of being denied tax-free status as a religion, the Internal Revenue Service caved.

After their lawyers filed 100s of lawsuits against everyone in the IRS they possibly could. Including low level employees. They have an excellent team of lawyers always. They are smart about that, I gotta say.

by Anonymousreply 35May 28, 2018 2:57 AM

No way Jerry Seinfeld was interested in this bullshit

by Anonymousreply 36May 28, 2018 4:29 AM

Kelly Preston is a See You Next Tuesday

by Anonymousreply 37May 28, 2018 4:33 AM

Scientology didn’t just sue the IRS; they infiltrated the agency and stole thousands of documents.
