The Crown casts "The Durrells" actor Josh O'Connor for seasons 3 and 4 as its new Prince Charles
This already adds to the announced cast for the 3rd and 4th seasons of Olivia Colman as the queen, Tobias Menzies as Prince Philip, Helen Bonham-Carter as Princess Margaret, and Jason Watkins as prime minister Harold Wilson. the 3rd season will cover the years 1964-1976; the fourth season should take us well into the Thatcher era and will involve the wedding of Charles to Lady Diana Spencer (who won't appear until season 4).
Season 3 should involve Charles as a major character, and should involve his investiture as Prince of Wales and his time in college and in the navy, and his early relationship with Camilla Shand (who is now Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall).
the new season will be shooting this summer and will be shown in 2019.

Josh also starred in the gay drama "God's Own Country" where he showed off his enormous dong.

Storylines we can likely expect for next season:
*Wilson's tenure overseeing the increasing liberalization of the UK
*Prince Charles' investiture as Prince of Wales in 1969
*Charles's relationship with Camilla Shand in 1971-1973 (confirmed by the showrunner Peter Morgan as a major storyline)
*the breakup of Princess Margaret's marriage to Lord Snowden, and her scandalous relationship with the much younger Roddy Llewellyn starting in 1973 (also confirmed as a major storyline)
*Princess Anne's marriage to Captain Mark Phillips in 1973, and the failed attempt to kidnap her in 1974
*the death and funeral of the Duke of Windsor in 1972
*the state of emergency over the national strikes in 1972
*the rise of Margaret Thatcher

Some of that casting seems a little wonky. The Queen and Phillip seem like strange choices. I'll have to see them fully made up to judge but they have a high bar to reach because I really liked the original actors. At least O'Connor has the ears!
By the time they get to William and Harry showing up, Prince George can play his dad because we all know he's well on his way to working in the theater!

They will also certainly devote an entire episode to the making and broadcasting of "Royal family," the TV documentary from 1969 that was commissioned by the queen for Charles's investiture as Prince of Wales; nearly 2/3 of the UK's population watched it. It's never been shown again because the royal family thought it made them look too ordinary. it was probably THE major step in bringing the royal family close to the masses via TV and tabloids that happened in the 1970s and 1980s.
Only clips have survived, but they're really fascinating, though nothing happens in them. The queen telling the story of the gorilla to her family in the linked clip is unbelievably strange, and clarifies that the only actress who has ever really truly nailed the queen's voice was Carol Burnett.

I'm not sure how odd the casting is. Earlier this year some posters said here they would have to cast actors who physically resembleed the season 1& season 2 actors, but remember the royal family is very alive for Brits today (even if they hate them, they can't avoid seeing them), and the actors who they've hired for seasons 3&4 mostly very much resemble the people they were playing in the 1964-84 period.
For example, here is Olivia Colman next to the real queen as she looked during this period. She actually looks more like her than Claire Foy looked like the queen when the queen was younger.

Maybe it's different for American audiences who don't see the royals all that much. I'd prefer they look like the actors who played the younger ones but I'm sure I'll get used to it quickly as long as they are good actors and, from what I've read, they all are. I can't believe it's not going to be on until 2019. Pfft.

I wonder who they'll cast as Diana. I know Sophie Turner has been mentioned, but I wonder if they'll go with someone unknown.

R10, they might go with an unknown. Turner’s got Diana’s height but I think post GoT she’s going to try to be a movie star and I don’t think she has the acting chops for Diana. My suggestion is Ellie Bamber, young enough, natural blonde, good actress.

I would guess Sophie Turner would not even want to do Diana. Turner's got a pretty big career now, and Diana is too risky of a part for her to want to take on. People have such strong feelings about Diana.

I can't believe Anne is complaining so much about 1:06 and following at r5 about the documentary. It was made decades before she was interviewed, and shown only once. How big of a deal could it have been?
I know that Dataloungers like her because she's a hard worker at opening Tescos; but like her brothers, she's a great big baby, and always carries on about how much she suffers as a royal, when in reality she has been so incredibly pampered and privileged her entire life. I am sure our friend the Darfur orphan would easily trade his mudpuddle bed for her mansions and Rolls-Royces in a second, even if it meant suffering the kind of public exposure she has endured..
I don't know why the queen's kids are such huge public whingers when she's so stoic. "The Crown" claimed that Prince Philip has been his entire life a huge self-pitying complainer, and they must have learned it from him. But their repeated complaining always has made me not like them (I only really like the queen because she is so stoic).

The boyfriend in God's Own Country was hotter. Hope it's not the last we see of HIS cock.

The actors are better looking than the real royals, I think. I hope they cast a strong actress for Diana.

The Crown uses the same casting director as Game of Thrones. She has a pretty good success rate.

Oh, OP.
The headline should have been "Josh O'Connor And His Extremely Large Cock Cast in The Crown!"

It was confirmed today that O'Connor has been cast as Prince Charles. Also, Marion bailey will be the Queen Mother--she'll have a good episode where she has to be gracious to her hated rival, the Duchess of Windsor, when the latter comes to England for the Duke's funeral in 1972.

Will Josh's cock get an onscreen guest credit?
Will it have its own trailer?
Its own handler? (I volunteer)

Try to keep in mind that were we to see O'Connor's cock it would be right before Charles penetrated Camilla.

Because they do nothing but sit around and drink tea all day while the (taxpayer) money pours in.
