Alden Ehrenreich Is Never Gonna Happen

He just doesn’t have IT. The name is his first problem, his face the second. He still hasn’t caught on, even after getting the Solo gig. The public STILL doesn’t care about him or would be able to tell you his name. He’s very forgettable. Spielberg gave him his job. This guy is just gonna be hanging around until someone sets him up with a behind-the-camera gig in ten years time. Mark my words.

by Anonymousreply 41June 4, 2018 1:59 AM

I don't understand what happened to him. He was bursting with charisma in 'Hail, Caesar!', yet has the presence of a stale piece of bread in Solo. Was it a particular event/person in his life that drained him of energy, or something else entirely?

by Anonymousreply 1May 26, 2018 8:06 PM

He's the new Stephen Dorff.

by Anonymousreply 2May 26, 2018 8:50 PM

Hail, Caesar! was an anomaly. He gives the same performance in SOLO as he did in Beautiful Creature and Rules Don't Apply.
He's the new Stephen Dorff.

That wounds.

by Anonymousreply 3May 26, 2018 8:54 PM

I got him mixed with up potato headed Ansel Elgort and Twinkothee Chalamet.

by Anonymousreply 4May 26, 2018 9:29 PM

What?!

We'll see how it goes. I've yet to see Solo but I liked him in Hail, Caesar. Becoming the new Han Solo after Harrison Ford is pretty much impossible for anyone.

R4, at last Alden, who's 28, is more manly than those two twinks.

by Anonymousreply 6May 26, 2018 9:40 PM

Solo bombed at the box office.

by Anonymousreply 7May 26, 2018 11:58 PM

Just got back from seeing Solo.

He is awful. Just a blah, nothing special, no light, no personality. A guy reading dialogue. No snappiness, no life. Compare his Han Solo to Harrison Ford. Ford may be no Olivier but he had spark and life. This Alden guy is a fucking void.

by Anonymousreply 8May 27, 2018 12:07 AM

As long as he’s a Spielberg protege, Hollywood will make him happen 🙄 he sounds dead inside as Han Solo

by Anonymousreply 9May 27, 2018 12:11 AM
He's the new Stephen Dorff.

Or Taylor Kitsch.

by Anonymousreply 10May 27, 2018 12:13 AM

I like him as young Han.

by Anonymousreply 11May 27, 2018 12:13 AM

out of curiosity, anyone know who else was up for Solo? I can't think of any young Harrison Ford types.

by Anonymousreply 12May 27, 2018 12:25 AM

Rumor was that it was down to Ehrenreich, Taron Egerton (Kingsman, The Secret Service), Jack Reynor (Strange Angel), Jack O'Connell (Unbroken) and Blake Jenner (Everybody Wants Some).

And reportedly Miles Teller and Ansel Elgort took meetings for the role but wasn't on the shortlist.

by Anonymousreply 13May 27, 2018 12:32 AM

O'Connell and Egerton would have [italic]killed[/italic] this. The others on the list are poor actors.

Jenner has a huge schlong but is incredibly dim. He would've been a disaster on the press tour. I'm sure Kathleen sensed that immediately.

by Anonymousreply 14May 27, 2018 12:37 AM

I think Taron Egerton would have been great. R14, typed before I saw your post. I will check out O'Connell.

by Anonymousreply 15May 27, 2018 12:39 AM
He's the new Stephen Dorff.

More like the new Klinton Spilsbury.

by Anonymousreply 16May 27, 2018 1:44 AM

Who cares if he can act? Is he hung? If so, then his career in Hollywood will not suffer.

by Anonymousreply 17May 27, 2018 5:15 PM

O'Connell is good, but too intense to play Solo.

by Anonymousreply 18May 27, 2018 10:40 PM

Egerton's a midget even by Hollywood standards. They should have cast Glen Powell.

by Anonymousreply 19May 29, 2018 6:42 AM

He is fat.

by Anonymousreply 20May 29, 2018 7:55 AM

AE looks like he has a hairy chest. I want to see a young up-and-coming actor like him do a sexy shoot without having to shave/wax his fur. Hollywood is full of hairless twinks. We need to bring back the natural furry look.

by Anonymousreply 21May 29, 2018 8:10 AM

He witnessed his mentally ill uncle stab his father to death when he was 8. They had gone to pick up crazy uncle for a family Hanukkah celebration. He is a very resilient person to have overcome this trauma.

by Anonymousreply 22May 29, 2018 8:20 AM

Did he put out for Speilberg or is he too old?

by Anonymousreply 23June 2, 2018 3:31 PM

True, r22. Horrible thing to witness.

BTW, it was his uncle by marriage, no a blood relation.

by Anonymousreply 24June 2, 2018 3:31 PM

O'Connel played a variation of the Han Solo character on Skins. A loveable misfit who *spoiler alert* goes after the guy who killed his best friend.

Jesus Christ r25! That mishmash of spare parts playing a young Harrison Ford?

Do Brits just have different standards of beauty? I'm serious. The guy in r25 looks like he was born with fetal alcohol syndrome and then raised on Wonder Bread. THAT guy grows up into Harrison Ford?

Alden was fine. He played Han as a less angry, bitter man not yet jaded by life.

by Anonymousreply 26June 2, 2018 4:48 PM

I love Alden and I thought he was splendid in Solo. I will marry that man.

by Anonymousreply 27June 2, 2018 4:52 PM

Taron Egerton is great. But Alden Ehrenreich will be a star. If you doubt that, just look at Jennifer Aniston. Not much there but extremely successful.

by Anonymousreply 28June 2, 2018 4:58 PM

I don't know her

by Anonymousreply 29June 2, 2018 6:19 PM
Jenner has a huge schlong

Do you have evidence?

by Anonymousreply 30June 2, 2018 6:32 PM

The film didn't need a great actor, just someone with lots of star power and charisma. I thought Alden was great. The cinematography did him no favors. The whole movie just looked dim and lifeless thanks to an arrogant DP who wanted to push the boundaries rather than stay true to the look of the franchise.

Jenner has lots of charisma and is stunningly beautiful. I think he would have been good too.

by Anonymousreply 31June 2, 2018 6:34 PM
They should have cast Glen Powell.

I would have loved that.

by Anonymousreply 32June 2, 2018 6:43 PM

Alden was excellent as Han Solo. He's definitely been hit and miss. He was just fantastic and also award worthy (nomination, at least) in Hail, Caesar. He was really lackluster in Rules Don't Apply, but it was also a terrible film that should never have been made. I enjoyed Solo for what it was and had a good time, but classic cinema it wasn't. That being said, none of the Star Wars films have been since Empire. They have been varying degrees of fun, nostalgic, competent, boring or just downright awful. But to blame this film's failure on Eherenreich (or even Donald Glover) is unfair. The cast was uniformly good (except for Emilia Clarke, who was at least competent). Whatever faults Solo has (and personally, I don't think there are many), you cannot blame the cast.

by Anonymousreply 33June 2, 2018 6:53 PM

Alden is a bit dorky but he was perfectly fine as Young Solo. Young Solo should not expected to be as crusty and jaded as Ford’s Solo.

by Anonymousreply 34June 2, 2018 6:58 PM

R34 see r25.

by Anonymousreply 35June 2, 2018 7:58 PM

I mean r34, see r26.

by Anonymousreply 36June 2, 2018 7:59 PM

Apparently, Ehrenreich was Solo before they even started casting.
That guy pretty much went through an audition pentathlon; it was like an acting steeplechase. He went against a lot of very strong competitors and was very consistently the guy from minute one. He was the first person who auditioned out of thousands, and just out of the box, made you believe that someday he'd grow into the character we know.

He does [italic]look[/italic] the part. I'm anxious to see the film (even after DL's disappointing review), but since I can't stand going to theaters any more, I'll have to wait until either it's on DVD or I can find it to download.

R37, ignore the naysayers. It’s a fun movie.

by Anonymousreply 38June 3, 2018 5:39 PM

Harrison Ford was 35 when he first appeared as Han Solo. Alden Ehrenreich is 28 as he appears as Han Solo, an incredible 7 year difference in age. Unless you are 12 years old, that is not enough difference in time.

This is Harrison Ford in a screen test for the first movie, the photo in R37 is an older Harrison Ford.

The problem is that the young Harrison Ford was fucking sex on a stick and had loads of charm and charisma. Alden E. just isn't any of that.

by Anonymousreply 40June 3, 2018 6:53 PM

He's cute. He has a rakishly charming smile. The movie is fine. It's fun nothing more.
