Hard to truly compare Kate Middleton and Diana.

First off, Diana was much younger than KM in most of the photos you see of her...Diana was married at age 20 and deceased by age 36 (the age Kate Middleton is now). Kate Middleton was married/ became a royal at age 29. So, anyway, most of the most highly photographed moments of Diana's life she is barely out of her teenage years and of course did not look "frumpy" or "matronly" - if anything, she looked like a fresh-faced school girl.

I do think Diana had wonderful style and always looked fabulous.

I think it helped Diana's look that she came from an illustrous background unlike Megan Markle or Kate Middleton.....Diana is from old money, a famous British aristocratic family, she grew up on a magnificent country estate, went to Swiss boarding school etc. From a very young age she was exposed to people with money and taste, and elevated surroundings. The British royal famliy was part of her social circle, her sister dated Prince Charles before she married him. Unlike Markle or Middleton, marrying a British royal wasn't a huge social step up for her. She was already part of that world and she understood clothes and jewelry and how to dress for every occasion.

I still think Diana had tremendous natural taste and style that you cant explain by her background alone.
