Why are we starting this thread when the other one isn't even finished yet?

Good title tho.

by Anonymousreply 3May 22, 2018 1:45 AM

Because R3 threads always get started when there's a little overlap.

by Anonymousreply 4May 22, 2018 2:02 AM

Yah, OP picked me! haha I suggested this title way back in #16 I think, and repeated it a few times. I guess OP just figured NOW is the time.

Thank you, OP.

(I'm sure others thought of it as well. But these are tough times! I need little things to cheer me up).

Trump is redefining treason as anyone who’s not a fan. If you don’t love Trump, you don’t love America. So warped!

by Anonymousreply 8May 22, 2018 3:11 AM

Woohoo! My suggestion!

by Anonymousreply 9May 22, 2018 3:12 AM

R5 I had it way back before then.

by Anonymousreply 10May 22, 2018 3:13 AM

Sorry I’m r5 and r6. I had it before 16–I remember thinking the Shakespeare reference was ok since mine wasn’t used.

I had the first thought ever. Like, Ever-Ever. That was me.

by Anonymousreply 12May 22, 2018 3:18 AM

Ugh I meant sorry r6 and 56 i had it before thread 16. And I suggested it multiple times inc I think the last bunch. I guess it’s hard to prove in an anonymous board but at least I know it in my heart.

by Anonymousreply 13May 22, 2018 3:21 AM

Did we talk about how Drumpf had that coin minted for his talks with North Korea?

And on it he went ahead and called Kim, "The Supreme Leader."

Let that sink in.

by Anonymousreply 14May 22, 2018 3:30 AM

Bet Franklin Mint will sell that bullshit coin and he'll get a percentage. Or is he using it as a trinket to fundraise with? It certainly isn't spendable. It's a "collector's item. " LOLOL! The man has no taste. None.

by Anonymousreply 15May 22, 2018 3:53 AM

So this Broidy guy got a $7, Million contract from the Defense dept. last year? Then he gave Cohen $1.6 Million? Uh Huh. Allegedly to pay off some trick who got an abortion? Or was it that she refused to abort? I can't keep up.

by Anonymousreply 16May 22, 2018 3:54 AM

Trump the criminal sits in the White House blatantly lying and abusing power while trying to prevent the very much needed investigation from continuing. I believe he will fail and the results of the investigation will bring a vast conspiracy of traitors crashing down. What happens after that I can't imagine but I want that traitorous piece of shit out of office along with Pence and the entire cheating crew.

The problem is, even though he's destroying the Republican party people of that mindset remain. Bigots, sexists, war mongers, religious extremists, etc. They are not fit to hold power when their goal is to limit freedom while lining their pockets.

by Anonymousreply 17May 22, 2018 4:16 AM

A meta reference to be sure. I'll spend trumppence!

by Anonymousreply 18May 22, 2018 4:26 AM

Speaker Pelosi will NOT say that "impeachment is OFF the table" because Trump is not Bush and their actions are not the same. If she thinks she can get the man impeached or that the Dems or the Country will benefit from House charges, she will do it. If not, then she won’t.

by Anonymousreply 19May 22, 2018 4:37 AM

I'm afraid people don't understand what an empty gesture it would be to impeach him without at least some bipartisan support and some idea that it would go anywhere in the Senate. That's what Pelosi is saying when she says the the Dems need to stop talking about and emphasizing impeachment at this point.

The only thing worse than him staying in office until 2020 would be for him to be impeached by a Democratic House and then completely acquitted and exonerated by the Senate. The ensuing spin following that would backfire horribly on the Democrats just in time for the 2020 elections.

by Anonymousreply 20May 22, 2018 4:56 AM

Exactly R20. Pelosi is a warrior but she knows strategy. She knows process, and she knows the players in the House. Many of them are staffers who usually know a lot more than their bosses and "guide " their bosses.

What incenses me about this latest plot is that Trump has in effect demanded that the FBI divulge the name of informants they might have used and they would also be exposing a network of people that the counter Intel division uses. This is dangerous on so many levels but the most obvious one is that Trump and his bastards will have no problem exposing this network to the Russians and anyone else they need to tell. that's what Jared was doing with his buddy the Saudi Prince. He told the guy who was spying on him. We have never been in a more dangerous position and Trump needs to get the fuck out of the fucking White House.
Exactly [R20]. Pelosi is a warrior but she knows strategy.

Sorry, but she's playing chess while the others play checkers and the ones playing checkers are winning. I don't see her strategies working in an eviroment where people directly benefit from Trump. Like, is she still trying to appeal to conservatives' sense of traditional values like honor and decorum in a time where the religious right is ok with a guy cheating on his wife, hiring porn stars, and grabbing women by the pussy?

Pelosi should come forward with an actual strong message and say that any bipartisan effort is off the table as long Trump's in charge. She should sell the Democratic Party as the one and only solution to the Trump problem instead of trying reaching out to the conservatives.

by Anonymousreply 24May 22, 2018 5:34 AM

Where, exactly, is Pelosi "reaching out to the conservatives", R24? I swear, this crybaby "I want it, I want it my way, and I want it right now!" crap is going to fuck the Democrats over again. Fucking Bernbros and their ilk need to step away and let the grown-ups fix the mess they made.

by Anonymousreply 25May 22, 2018 6:22 AM

OP, you wrote 'vacations with your "bestie". Who is Trump's "bestie"?

by Anonymousreply 26May 22, 2018 11:12 AM

The Saudis & Emirates did not think highly of JARED KUSHNER, per GEORGE NADER email to @ELLIOTT_BROIDY. "Nobody would even waste cup of coffee on him if it wasn't for who he is married to," wrote Nader, who called Kushner the "Clown Prince."

Pelosi is old and out of touch.

by Anonymousreply 28May 22, 2018 12:36 PM

90% of what Pelosi and Ryan do is behind the scenes so we don't really know what they're doing. I do know that a lot of people try to convince Dems to dump Pelosi. especially the Bernie Bros who are undermining the Democratic Party from within. I support Pelosi. She's effective. Like Hillary, the haters can't give you a specific reason.

by Anonymousreply 29May 22, 2018 12:39 PM

Pelosi is strategic. She's not going to bother with impeachment hearings unless by some miracle she could get enough Republicans on board in the Senate to convict and make it worthwhile.

What she will do is ensure lots and lots of committee hearings and findings about the Trump crime family and the administration's incompetence and mismanagement of pretty much everything.

by Anonymousreply 30May 22, 2018 12:41 PM

Not a Bernie Bro just don't care for Pelosi; the Democratic party needs new blood.

by Anonymousreply 31May 22, 2018 12:50 PM

Well, fuck. I thought R14 was kidding... it sounded like a ridiculous (left-wing) internet conspiracy theory and faux-outrage story.

But it wasn't.

The world's gone crazy.

by Anonymousreply 32May 22, 2018 1:32 PM

Look. As it has been pointed out repeatedly. The worst thing is if they had an impeachment proceeding and he gets exonerated. We want him convicted! The threshold for conviction is 67 votes in the Senate. A supermajority.

What is important is that yes, R30 is right. Pelosi will hold a lot of hearings, not just impeachment hearings. Scott Pruitt, and a lot of other cretins will be held to account, no more secrets. And don't forget. The House of Representatives holds the power of the purse. She can withhold funding, or make sure something gets bottled up in committee. She is head and shoulders smarter that Ryan on her worst day. And Pelosi will have formal public hearings like the old days when we had smart people running things. So we can watch the theatrics complete with popcorn.

Republican Tom Nichols, in response to the commemorative coin:

Not only is this premature, but it's exactly the sort of legitimacy Kim Jong Un was hoping for out of this dumpster fire of an idea.

by Anonymousreply 34May 22, 2018 1:42 PM

The more he is threatened, the more dangerous Trump becomes. As the process closes in on him, he will do more and more desperate things.

by Anonymousreply 35May 22, 2018 2:19 PM

Wow R27!!! I just cannot believe how much information ( dare I say evidence yet? ) about the level of corruption of those in Trumps circle is coming out. In any other administratio, that NYT article would be screaming headlines on all the networks. I turned on MSNBC and CNN and they are talking about future flood dangers in Houston and the volcano eruption!! The article claims that Broidy met with Trump in an undisclosed meeting to relay the Saudi wishes regarding Qatar and Trump complied. Money was "donated" to the RNC and Trump campaign. Top generals were bought and paid for to shill against Qatar in op-Ed pieces. Everything coordinated to secure multi-billion dollar military contracts for Broidy-Nader with I'm sure promised funds to Trump. Unbelievable! A must read!

by Anonymousreply 36May 22, 2018 2:54 PM

Trump's demand/pressure that the Postmaster punish Amazon by doubling their postal rates due to a personal vendetta with the head of the Washington Post, is an abuse of power. This, in itself, is an impeachable offense.

David Koch's GOP Congress, with the largely laid-back Democrats should be raising hell over this. This is treated as just one more ripple in the daily antics from DJT and his cohorts.

by Anonymousreply 37May 22, 2018 3:17 PM

Exactly R37. I think what it's going to take is for some really important people like former CIA chiefs, former foreign policy types, and former Presidents to call a private meeting with the Kochs, and impress upon them how important it is to remove Trump. I believe the Kochs may be open to reason if it involves national security interests. It is to their benefit too. I know it seems like I'm advocating consorting with the enemy, and maybe I am, but I can see no other way to get bi partisan" cooperation to oust Trump. I'm very pissed off at the number of Republicans who have announced their retirement this year in both houses of Congress, and yet they ar e towing the line for McConnell & Ryan when they could really stand up to them.

by Anonymousreply 38May 22, 2018 3:39 PM
Look. As it has been pointed out repeatedly.

Do you have to sound like Sarah Huckabee Sanders to make your point? It’s not becoming.

by Anonymousreply 39May 22, 2018 4:01 PM

Trump spoke from the White House alongside his South Korean counterpart minutes ago. One Republican's reaction:

The President’s comments on North Korea - “he’ll be happy, he’ll be rich, I’ll help make North Korea great” - are so off the charts weird and wrong. Jesus. Allies must be cringing; enemies are almost certainly laughing.

This entire press conference is completely bonkers.
I believe the Kochs may be open to reason if it involves national security interests.

They don't have any interests other than themselves and the 1% of humanity that they identify with. They'd happily watch the rest of us burn, laugh about it and pass around cigars.

by Anonymousreply 42May 22, 2018 9:25 PM

The Kochs are for anything that enhances their profits and power, including but not limited to, destroying forests; polluting water, air, and food; intruding on wildlife habits; having favorable banking deregulations; pay the lowest taxes possible; hiring undocumented immigrants at very low rates; low wages for other employees; resisting paying sufficient health care benefits; gut the EPA and their regulations; outsourcing where corporate profitable; appointing pro-corporate judges; and keeping Republicans in power by buying them and demanding loyalty.

by Anonymousreply 43May 22, 2018 9:42 PM

And now Reuters/Ipsos has republicans leading the generic congressional ballot this Fall. We are in serious trouble if that comes to pass.

by Anonymousreply 44May 22, 2018 9:53 PM

A generic poll right now means absolutely nothing. There is still 6 months to go before the mid-terms.

by Anonymousreply 45May 22, 2018 10:15 PM

Agreed. What matters is that each individual candidate meets the needs of their district or state. Generic candidates can only win generic races and there is no such thing. Get involved locally!

by Anonymousreply 46May 22, 2018 10:30 PM

R43. Heartbreakingly 100 % correct regarding Koch brothers. I live in Wichita Ks. And I can assure their morals align with Trump. " Let them eat cake" is their attitude toward people too poor to buy bread. They will use their influence to get what will benefit them and, as you said, the rest of this can burn down while they smoke their imported cigars and sip their aged Brandy. Loathe some. I am dying to get out of this town of zombies who mostly work for or go to schools owned by Kochs.

The Republicans must be weighing the prospects of Trump [italic] and Pence [/italic] both being impeached after the midterms, (and the Dems taking the House in the midterms). That would make Nancy P., a Dem, President. If that seems likely, they will try to force Trump out before then, so they can fill the resultant VP slot with another, clean Republican. He’d become President if Pence was also later impeached.

I’m sure they are thinking of this, but Pence is not as obviously a criminal as is Trump, so who knows if Mueller has dirt on him?

by Anonymousreply 51May 23, 2018 12:39 AM

I haven’t heard the TV talking heads mention this, but they should: Trump repeatedly hammers the judiciary, Special Prosecutor, or in this case the Dept of Justice, when he’s screwed. Remember how he attacked the judge in the “Trump University” trial? He loved loved loved 💕 Comey, until he didn’t, then he attacked Comey and still isn’t finished doing so. Also Jeff Sessions. Also Mueller, initially. And Rosenstein. He appointed them, if I recall correctly. There are other examples, I believe, though I can’t think of them at the moment.

Isn’t this newsworthy?

by Anonymousreply 52May 23, 2018 1:12 AM

by Anonymousreply 53May 23, 2018 1:33 AM

It’s so sad that this is playing out like a third world soap opera

Very bad economic news about inflation etc that Trump administration is hiding from public

Do you support ever growing income inequality or do you not? Are you a cheerful corporate slave, or do you have some concerns about that?

by Anonymousreply 56May 23, 2018 2:30 AM

These attacks are electioneering, and also a distraction from the North Korea debacle he brought on himself. He looks like an asshole and he really gave away the game when he commented that he wanted to make Li'l Kim rich. This is his version of diplomacy. Bribes and payoffs on the personal level. Now, the attacks on the DOJ and the FBI are real. he is laying the groundwork to fire Sessions and or Rosenstein, but not Mueller. But I also see something sinister in all of this. Nunes and his cabal of extremists repeatedly insist on gaining access to classified information There's a pattern to it. Then it escalates to some phony charge by trump, and then Rosenstein and McCray cave in and give up information that is related to the fucking investigation of Trump! This most recent capitulation is really disturbing. And then to top if off, Kelly and the Intel people and the committee people from Congress are also going to review top secret information? Here's my opinion: If you accept the fat that Trump is in bed with the Russians, and he is their operative, an asset for Putin, then the possibility that some sinister plan is being implemented to dismantle our entire ability to gather intel. They are turning our intel informants, networks, etc. over to the enemy. Something bad is going on and we really need to get rid of Trump and everyone associated with him. They don't belong in government they belong in prison. This is treason of the highest kind.it has to be stopped.

by Anonymousreply 57May 23, 2018 2:33 AM

I also meant to say that when Kelly and the Intel people and the Congressional leadership reviewed the classified information, they excluded the Democratic leadership fromthe meeting today.

by Anonymousreply 58May 23, 2018 2:35 AM

I expect Michael Cohen to flip in the not too distant future. I don't believe he wants to die in prison.

by Anonymousreply 61May 23, 2018 2:46 AM

The Democrats' national message has to be a lot more concrete than "corruption." It has to be "Trump's giving your tax money to China, Russia, Qatar ... and himself." It has to be "Trump's selling American foreign policy to whoever gives him the most money and flattery. We're becoming weak in the world: China and North Korea roll us. They laugh at us."

They have to go after Trump's ludicrous talking points and turn them against him, pounding him with all the real-life consequences of his idiocy and venality. And the message always has to be "Trump *and the Republicans* are dragging us down."

by Anonymousreply 62May 23, 2018 2:49 AM

There will be no talk of impeachment on the campaign trail this fall!

Got it Dems?

by Anonymousreply 63May 23, 2018 2:53 AM

Another thing: the national Democrats might want to stay away from the Russia collaboration business as too dubious and open to the charge of exaggeration or innuendo, but they should let the fringier Dem candidates pile on and beat the Republicans with it in districts where it resonates. And it resonates because it's so plausible and increasingly supported by the evidence, so that might be a lot of districts.

by Anonymousreply 64May 23, 2018 2:57 AM

I don’t mind Rubinstein’s slippery words in response to Trump. They were appropriate words to placate a baby, and Rubinstein remains in place, instead of a sycophant who would fire Mueller without proper cause. I think it’s important to keep the Trump ass-lickers out of public office.

by Anonymousreply 65May 23, 2018 3:18 AM

Devin Nunes, Trey Gowdy, and other Repukes and Kelly are all going to meet tomorrow to look over the classified documents that the Repuke House members have demanded that they be able to see; and then Trump bellowed on Twitter about; and which Rosenstein capitulated and allowed to now happen.

No Democrats are invited to this meeting.

This is fucking outrageous.

by Anonymousreply 66May 23, 2018 3:19 AM

To rattle Trump, go on the offensive about his lack of wealth. Say he's broke. Hammer about him never releasing his tax returns. It did not resonate enough in 2016, but it still needs to be pressed. Bring up Russia at every opportunity without saying impeachment directly. Note all the known funny money with foreign operatives. Call him weak. Say he's a failed deal-maker. Attack the inept nepotism. Declare he failed to Make America Great Again, but the top 1% are so much better off.

Play nasty as the Republicans do. Embellish the existing abortion pay-off stories. Reveal DJT, in exchange for $s, wants to spy on citizens using all Chinese cell phones. Shake-up the millenials.

by Anonymousreply 67May 23, 2018 3:26 AM

People are saying that he’s in debt. He was rattled because his inaugural crowd was smaller than Obama’s. I’ve heard he colluded with Russia to win the election. People are saying he’s dirty. Corrupt. A con man.

What did he get when he moved the Israeli embassy to Jerusalem? Or cancelled the Iran deal? He got nothing for the US. A failed deal maker! I’ve heard he got plenty for himself, believe me!

by Anonymousreply 68May 23, 2018 3:34 AM

sounds good to me, R67, and hint constantly that that abortion was Trump's, not Broidy's. Play with these people, constantly.

And yes, Trump hates more than anything the idea that he is not as rich as he says he is. That drives him nuts.

by Anonymousreply 69May 23, 2018 3:35 AM

The Dems need to hit harder on these immediate scandals like EPA and remind voters turnout in November is essential to restore American values. Why are they letting Trump get away with crime etc

by Anonymousreply 70May 23, 2018 4:47 AM

I have to imagine that Mueller knows (and is working to prove with no room for doubt) that Trump and those close to him have committed far, far more serious crimes than simple obstruction. With everything we've seen through leaks, reporting, and connecting the dots between those who have been indicted or already pleaded guilty, one has to wonder why Mueller hasn't moved on Trump yet. Why wait?

If the police see an active shooter, they take him out. No questions asked. Unless that active shooter has a partner with a bomb and you need to get them bomb, too.

I feel like a year from now the entire country (Trump supporters included) are going to be aghast at what's revealed, either because Trump is charged with treason... or because Trump is charged with nothing at all.

by Anonymousreply 71May 23, 2018 12:00 PM

Dems need to call attention to Trump’s continuing lies: what he promised vs. what we got.

Trade deals with China vs. no deal, farmers hurt Health Insurance Coverage - affordable for all vs. increasing rates, diminished coverage, CHIP No cuts to Medicare vs. how Republican policies have hurt seniors Tax reform for the middle class vs. tax cuts for the wealthy Protect the middle class vs. corporate friendly policies Drain the swamp vs. his administration’s corruption (so many examples to use!)

There are facts and figures, photos and sound bites that need to be put out there repeatedly.

by Anonymousreply 72May 23, 2018 12:10 PM

Corruption is a legitimate issue. But in order to really "see" it, voters have to be shown how it affects them. Trump wanted to do what Nixon did. He wanted to "open" North Korea to the world. Or at least get credit for it. He wants to show how much better he is than the "failed leadership" of every other President, particularly Obama. That is his basic motivation for every action. But when he pulls out of trade agreements, or Paris Accords on Climate Change, or rips up the Iran agreement, when he starts talking tariffs and trade wars, and sanctions, and isolating us, it is definitely going to have an economic impact on workers and it is going to affect our relationships with other countries. He is especially vulnerable with the Iran stuff right now. That is a large part of why the North Korean thing is a mess. It was supposed to be a simple photo op for him, and a few sweet deals, but after he ripped up the Iran Nuclear treaty, North Korea walked away. he is looking very bad on North Korea right now and behind the scenes they're desperately trying to salvage it. All that "Nobel Peace Prize " bullshit didn't help. But he is attacking the Mueller investigation and the DOJ in general to mobilize his voters and to distract us from his messes. Of course he is also scared because he is guilty. He is corrupt and filthy and unfit to be President.

by Anonymousreply 79May 23, 2018 1:04 PM

Trump is desperately trying to hide some devastating information. Whether or not Mueller already knows is unclear, but he has to at least be very close. Part of the effort to obtain investigative evidence by DJT and his cronies, is to find out what Mueller already knows. The matter goes way beyond the urine fetish tape.

by Anonymousreply 80May 23, 2018 1:25 PM
R51: The Republicans must be weighing the prospects of Trump and Pence both being impeached after the midterms, (and the Dems taking the House in the midterms). That would make Nancy P., a Dem, President. If that seems likely, they will try to force Trump out before then, so they can fill the resultant VP slot with another, clean Republican. He’d become President if Pence was also later impeached.

So, there’s a lot that can happen, but a twist on this I just realized is the following: the Republicans can wait to see the results of the midterm election, before acting. If they lose the House in the election, they can still replace a damaged Trump or Pence after the election in Nov 2018, but before the new House is seated in 2019. It would be risky and underhanded, but we are talking about Republicans, after all.

by Anonymousreply 81May 23, 2018 2:32 PM

^Doubtful the lame ducks will have the power or will to pull a fast one unless both Trump and Pence suddenly resign. This is also a period of a long holiday recess. They could be called back, though. It would be nasty. After an election, those defeated or not returning otherwise, usually do little beyond cleaning out their desks.

by Anonymousreply 82May 23, 2018 2:50 PM

If the Democratic candidates who won the primaries are too far to the left they stand a very good chance of losing. The GOP is counting on this and doing everything they can to make sure that's what happens. That is a large part of their strategy. I believe they think they will lose some seats but they will not lose over all control. That is their bet right now.

We have to prove them wrong. Who ever wins the Democratic primary, vote for them. Spread the word that there is no one on the Republican side worth voting for. No one. Ever. People are going to be bombarded with advertising and fake news. The GOP hasn't even begun to unleash the tidal wave of money and viciousness they will unleash to win in November.

by Anonymousreply 83May 23, 2018 2:51 PM

I've been reading about the evangelical support for trump and it drives me crazy. This is a group of people who choose to ignore trump's sexism, adultery, bribery, immorality, lying, cheating, and all the other transgressions that violate the tenets of the Christian faith and basic morality simply because trump supports them in their efforts to withhold funding for women's health services, contraception, and abortion. In this they punish women who have the greatest need for such services. Wealthier women will always get the services they need, including abortion. All the vile behaviors perpetrated against women by men like trump are all A-OK with evangelicals. "We will not judge him," they say, as they get their kickback via the oppression of women. Sick, loathsome, mean-spirited people, hiding behind a veil of piousness while approving the worst kinds of sins.

by Anonymousreply 84May 23, 2018 3:16 PM

R84, much is clarified when you consider that these Evangelical Christians (i.e. fundamentalist American Protestants) aren't genuinely religious or interested in following their own scriptures; they're just tribalists who are looking for rationales to draw hierarchies that put themselves above others. They're traditional authoritarians who pick and choose which parts of the bible they're going to follow based on what's most convenient to their prejudices. It's very primitive. I'm heartened that a lot of the mainstream isn't even pretending that these guys are "moral" anymore, but just Elmer Gantry type con artists and their dupes.

by Anonymousreply 85May 23, 2018 3:20 PM

To add to what I wrote above, evangelicals look the other way and refuse to judge trump, but they are happy to judge and punish women by withholding support that allows control over their own bodies. Complete and utter hypocrisy.

R85 I agree and have some family history with this. I believe there is anger, intolerance, and meanness involved, likely from ignorance about others, and yes, from the desire to put themselves above others.

by Anonymousreply 86May 23, 2018 3:31 PM

R80, it's the money. And I'm sure Mueller already knows the who, what and where's of the money trail.

WTF. MSNBC just announced 53% Americans now believe Mueller Russian investigation politically motivated while 47% believe it is valid. That is R and D . He's winning the PR war. The pundits are speculating the Mueller investigation may end up being meaningless as the majority of Americans believe the investigation was tainted with political influence. I don't know why the pundits say these things- unless it is to make my head explode. If Trump gets away with everything I won't be shocked. But WTF did Jared, after everything he has done with foreign governments, get his top level security clearance back? I'm going crazy. And the Trumtards are working overtime to smear Michael Avenatti. The thing is Trump plays so dirty, with help from Fox and Hannity and Ghouliani, and the MSM ,if anything isn't supporting MA. I don't think we can say for sure how this will play out. That's the same number who believed in Nixon back in the day, WMD's and Shrub back in that day and those who wished to stay a colony of England during the Revolutionary War.

20-30% of Americans are reactionary, backward looking, gullible, mean-spirited, evil little cunts who hate everyone else's freedom. They have always been with us and always will be, don't get too freaked out about them. We make progress despite their stupidity and detrimental effect on the gene pool.

We are descending in power. Some would say it's about time. I sure hope you are right. I believe you both may be. There are those pundits who predict that support for Trump will evaporate once the depth of his criminality is revealed. Abortions, money laundering, giving away the US for personal gain to foreign powers etc. thanks guys. Resist. R99, I have moments when I'm feeling so hopeless about Trump and his cronies getting away with this. But then, I remember how, even while Watergate was breaking and people were pleading guilty and going to jail, Nixon was even more popular and easily won his second term. And it was only a few months in before the truth came out and he resigned and was forever disgraced.

by Anonymousreply 133May 24, 2018 1:46 PM

Looks like the Summit is off.

by Anonymousreply 134May 24, 2018 1:50 PM

Alas, the difference between Watergate and now is that the president's party (Republican again, no coincidence) is committed to an unconstitutional regime if it delivers money and power to those with money and power. Watergate worked for the country because congressional Republicans had some integrity, or at least loyalties outside their little oligarchical circle. Now, with pressure coming up from their base and money coming in from post-Citizens United donors (and a lot of it from outside the country), they have no incentive to support the constitution and no particular loyalty to it. It doesn't pay.

That's why our best hope is to continue defeating them in elections, using the Democrats to do so, even in the face of electoral shenanigans.

The Summit was ill-conceived in the first place based mostly on Trump's whim. NK wants the US military presence in the peninsula gone or minimized, and that's not going to happen. Despite Trump's phony America First rhetoric, he and his China hawk advisers are not going to concede an inch on the US's military presence in East Asia. Trump wants to extort protection money from allies not lose any turf. NK will go ahead dismantling its failed nuclear test site, because it has in effect asked for and received protection from China when Kim went and kowtowed to Xi. But without any peace treaty, there is really no breakthrough.

by Anonymousreply 150May 24, 2018 3:36 PM

R150 most of them are evangelicals and other phony Christians, who are groomed to rationalize and justify.

True Christian faith demands that the follower look themselves in the mirror every day, with deeper understanding and humility than the day before. Humility opens the door to understanding and transformation.

Somewhere along the way religionists twisted their beliefs and have shunned humility because they do not want change, especially change that will come at personal sacrifice. Saying "I was wrong" or apologizing for anything might now cost them political power. They are dug in with their heels and will not be moved.

Wall Street Journal: Roger Stone Sought Information on Clinton from Assange, Emails Show

Former Trump campaign adviser Roger Stone privately sought information he considered damaging to Hillary Clinton from WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange during the 2016 presidential campaign.

The emails could raise new questions about Mr. Stone’s testimony before the House Intelligence Committee in September, in which he said he “merely wanted confirmation” from an acquaintance that Mr. Assange had information about Mrs. Clinton, according to a portion of the transcript that was made public.

Adam Schiff (D., Calif.), the ranking member of the House Intelligence Committee, said the emails hadn’t been provided to congressional investigators.

“If there is such a document, then it would mean that his testimony was either deliberately incomplete or deliberately false,” said Mr. Schiff.

We ought to be finding out how to use the Discharge Petition to organize and force legislation to the floor for a vote. When the Republicans were out of power they never stopped pushing back. They never admitted defeat. They were relentless. we have to #BeRelentless.
Senator Flake ripped Trump a new one at his speech at Harvard today.

Fuck Jeff Flake. He's completely useless. He could have actually used his clout at a Senator to block Trump appointees, judges, legislation as a deterrent to some of Trump's bullshit, but he hasn't.

SHIT - and Hardball is the one they don’t repeat later in the night (meanwhile they repeat Brian Williams twice!)

R150 R151. Here's the bottom line on Evangelical Christians: most are poor, uneducated and gullible. As Obama once said, they cling to their guns and their Bibles. These are the same people who so dearly loved the sainted ex door to door salesman Billy Graham. Read about him sometime. More conman than Christian. Those who worshipped Jim and Tammy Faye. Fell in love with the Duggars, gave money to Jerry Falwell. None of the " men of God" are anything but old time hucksters and snake oil salesman selling a bill of false goods to poor illiterate low IQ people who have no real power of discernment or the ability to see through the con. Nobody in a position of influence can state the obvious but listen to some of these people. We all know Trump supporters are stupid. Trumtards is a pretty fair nickname. Republicans since Nixon have gone after the low IQ Evangelical Bible thumper vote because it's easy to con these yoyos.

by Anonymousreply 196May 25, 2018 12:50 PM

I agree with R174 but I'm seeing how posting on this trump thread has fallen off, maybe even we are having a Trump fatigue. I'm almost at the point that if Mueller doesn't do something big soon, I'm going to just say " wake me when it's over". Nobody seems to be outraged enough to go after those creeps at the WH or in congress. Why should I care. I don't mean that but I am despairing that this is all for nothing. Esp after Pelosi- I mean what she said about impeachment not being likely.

by Anonymousreply 197May 25, 2018 1:42 PM

CIA is not going to do shit.

by Anonymousreply 198May 25, 2018 1:47 PM
Esp after Pelosi- I mean what she said about impeachment not being likely.

We have to stop pinning our hopes on some grand intervention from Congress or Mueller. It may happen, it may not. There's only one sure way to rid us of the stain that is Trump -- vote more Democrats into Congress in 2018 and vote Trump out in 2020. I hope most of us already do, but we've also got to do what we can to get more Democrats to the polls. Outrage fatigue is exactly what the Republicans are counting on to suppress the Democratic vote, don't let it happen.

by Anonymousreply 199May 25, 2018 1:56 PM

Just remember. The Extremists on the Right never get "fatigue." They never stop. Never admit defeat. They keep insisting black is white and the sun rises in the west and they do not give a fuck. Ever. That is the kind of mindset that intimidates and drowns out other voices at every level. We have to use their tactics against them.

If we are to defeat them yes, we have to do all the things you've said, R199 and R188. But we also have to be doing shit right now. Right now, Trump has done some outrageous things but nothing compares to the way he has been attacking the DOJ and the FBI and the Intel community the past few days.

And this latest development is what set Chris Matthews and most sane people off. Trump invited his personal attorney, the guy who is handling his defense in the Russia Probe, into the meeting with Rosenstein and McCray to get the intelligence briefing that Nunes insisted upon.

The Trump White House is demanding the sources of evidence and he wants to know what they have. He is demanding the agency responsible for investigating him, as the subject of an investigation turn over their evidence and their sources including intelligence networks, while the investigation is active. This is unheard of, and totally unacceptable.

Mueller took him to court about this two days ago, but we can't allow Congress to remain silent. We have to exert pressure. We have to make phone calls and we need to hear from important, high profile people.

In fact, we need a PR strategy. It's no trivial thing. Trump is using propaganda and lies and we need to do more than having a few disjointed appearances on TV from Democratic members of Congress.

We need to recognize this for what it is. It's a campaign to discredit and we need a full blown strategy to fight back. The DNC or some entity needs to do this or maybe some activist group out here needs to do it. But his behavior is really really dangerous right now.

by Anonymousreply 200May 25, 2018 2:54 PM

We need to stop playing defense.

by Anonymousreply 201May 25, 2018 3:24 PM

I can't help feeling that we're getting played with this ratcheting up of this NK suspense. This will they, won't they plays like a "who shot JR" hype. It will probably happen. Trump will be hailed as the ultimate negotiator that saved the summit, will be awarded the Nobel. We will get no real oversight against NK, but it won't matter because it is all about optics for both the U.S. and NK. Trump gets the additional distraction from Rusia and the story today about the Trump campaign SPYING against Obama officials to dig up dirt to use as a reason to pull out of the Iran deal. A REAL spygate!!! It just all seems so orchestrated and desperate to me. Please, please, please Mueller come out with something (anything!) soon to rein in these pigs!

by Anonymousreply 202May 25, 2018 3:56 PM

This was supposed to be a photo op and NK was going to get bribed to accept it through China. Asshole actually said, "I was going to make him a rich man" in public just the other day. That is what's happening in all cases. Trump is bribing other country's leaders using the USA's money and he is getting personally enriched for it with personal deals. He is doing it in the Middle East, and with Russians, and China, and WTF ever. He is literally giving away our intelligence gathering capabilities, and exposing our intelligence networks for personal gain. If that isn't fucking treason tell what is. He's a rotten bastard and a traitor. Don't worry. Analysts are saying China was the big winner in this whole thing.

We are being gaslighted in real time. It is typical Authoritarian behavior. We can't give up. Stay strong. We do need someone to go on attack. Someone with nearly as big an audience as Trump has. Who is this person?

by Anonymousreply 205May 25, 2018 5:02 PM

Oprah!

by Anonymousreply 206May 25, 2018 5:43 PM

I don't think we're suffering from fatigue. I think there's so much that you really can't focus on every single thing that comes out in the news. I don't think that's leading to people giving up. I think it's leading to people saying, "I can't wait to vote these fuckers out." and then getting on with their lives. Look at the results of every single election in the last year and a half. The only places that Democrats didn't win was where the Repugs had a 30+ point advantage going in. We've gained about 25 points in all the races. That's the Democratic enthusiasm.

People may have to pull back from the constant outrage but the vast majority of them are just saying, "Please let November get here sooner so I can actually do something about this disaster!"

by Anonymousreply 207May 25, 2018 6:18 PM
maybe even we are having a Trump fatigue.

Maybe, but think how he feels, into his 70s, stupid, inadequate and globally despised. He's visibly ageing - and despite that deal he's evidently done with the devil (or at least with Putin), and his cockroach ego - he's actually human, albeit sub-human.

Somehow, sometime, there WILL be a reckoning. Scum like Trump thrive on the decent and sane folding their tents and slinking away. Don't play his game. Keep the faith.

by Anonymousreply 208May 25, 2018 6:59 PM

Who cares how he feels. He is taking children from thier parents - 1500 are disappeared - he is a FUCKING NAZI.

Call YOUR GOP CONGRESSMEN & WOMEN: they are committing TREASON against the United States for supporting “The CULT OF TRUMP” over the Constitution of the United States!

by Anonymousreply 209May 25, 2018 7:13 PM

Rest assured that Mueller, each and every day, is aided by the dozens of lawyers and investigators and is quietly and methodically weaving a Kryptonite proof downfall of this president and this administration.

We are also in the primary season where predictions about the November 6 election are in the process of firming up. It is fuzzy season till after June. Democrats know that they can do NOTHING without taking at least one house of Congress. They are not wasting time about impeachment talk when it is not only off the table but not a political possibility until, POSSIBLY, after the election. Until then, it is all pie in the sky.

by Anonymousreply 210May 25, 2018 8:18 PM

Exactly, r210. I'm not sure why some don't quite get this.

by Anonymousreply 216May 26, 2018 12:24 AM

R211, the ones who don't "get" it are right wing shit-stirrers. Their function is to push impeachment talk because it's bad for the Democratic Party. Real Democrats know that we're going to get to impeachment after the election, we don't have to make a big deal about it now.

by Anonymousreply 217May 26, 2018 12:29 AM

R217, I don't even like the expectation that we'll get impeachment after the election to be a focus. If that ends up being the narrative after the Dems take the House in November, it will be the ONLY thing anyone will focus on. And, if the Repugs hold the Senate or there is absolutely no way to get the conviction in the Senate with 2/3 of the Senators voting to remove the fucker, then an impeachment followed by an exoneration will be disastrous for the Democrats in 2020. We cannot let impeachment be the narrative. That's what Pelosi has been saying but people are not understanding.

And, no, I don't think it is only Repugs who are saying this. The more reactionary Dems will start the day after the election in November if the Dems take the House, and especially if they take the Senate by one or two seats, and then, when it doesn't happen, they'll throw up their hands in disgust, not understanding the reality of trying to get 2/3 of the Senate to convict Trump.

by Anonymousreply 218May 26, 2018 12:42 AM

Trump Jr should be called back in front of Congress to explain himself.

Hopefully, the FBI and the Justice Dept. is done playing nice and they're taking off the gloves. More and more damning evidence trickling out until one of these days it's going to come out like a tsunami and wash the filth of Trump and family and cronies away. Just now hearing on MSNBC, the FBI has had evidence for sometime of that Russian oligarch , who is under sanctions, funneled money to the GOP via the NRA . He also, for a few years, attended CPAC and National Prayer Breakfast and other consertive organizations. Burn it down. Burn Daddy Don's ass to a crisp while Ivanka watches and televise it on Comedy Central . The Real Roast of DJT. Bring marshmallows and weenies.

by Anonymousreply 227May 26, 2018 2:56 AM

and raising the question that we all pretty much know the answer. Is there ever anyone at a National Prayer Breakfast who isn't a complete cunt pretty much guaranteed to be going to hell?

by Anonymousreply 228May 26, 2018 3:13 AM

If they were funneling money through the GOP and NRA they all have to go down.

by Anonymousreply 229May 26, 2018 3:34 AM

They can bust the RNC as a criminal enterprise under RICO, same with the NRA. In fact they can impose sanctions on the NRA, and put it in some kind of receivership, strip them of their non-profit status. I know one thing I do expect and will demand from a fucking Democratic Congress. And that is a package of legislation that is going to put some real laws on the books to stop this shit from ever happening again. The reign of clowns like Nunes and Ryan is coming to an end. There are going to be some serious ethics reforms and conflict of interest, and tightening of regulations. No more depending on "custom and tradition." It will be Law. And there will be penalties.

by Anonymousreply 230May 26, 2018 4:12 AM

Gi notice posting falling off the Mueller threads. Are we losing interest/hope/outrag? I know I am about at the point that I am unhealthily obsessed with someone stopping Trump. He's destroying so much that will take decades to begin to repair. And there seems to be no stopping him. I know that my attitude is far from alone. Sometimes on somethings like this, people just hit a wall where they have to stop back , for their own sanity. I believe that if Mueller doesn't produce something soon, who will care ? Trump and his allies continue their assault on our justice dept. and norms. And more and more people are buying into his propaganda. We are well past a crisis and now everything this swamp monster and associates are doing are being accepted as normal.

by Anonymousreply 240May 26, 2018 3:26 PM

It's just a lull because Mueller hasn't come out with anything for awhile. If something important and dramatic happens, I'm sure these threads will perk right up again.

by Anonymousreply 241May 26, 2018 3:28 PM

And it’s also very possible that many posters here have the recent OP of these threads blocked.
It's just a lull because Mueller hasn't come out with anything for awhile. If something important and dramatic happens, I'm sure these threads will perk right up again.

The Mueller investigation is dead in the water. Rod Rosenstein has one foot out the door. Trump will replace him with Rudy Giuliani and Rudy will shut down the Mueller probe into Trump. Mueller will then reveal all the collusion between Hillary, Obama, and everyone else who took million-dollar bribes over Uranium One and the Iran Deal.

Then we can all focus on SpyGate - the real scandal in which Obama and his spying co-horts turn out to be Nixon and Watergate times a hundred. After all, Nixon's cronies never plotted to overthrow McGovern should he be elected, the way James Comey and his pals did. There won't be any pardons this time.

Notice how even CNN has given up on Stormy Daniels? They know the real Storm is coming.

by Anonymousreply 244May 26, 2018 5:20 PM

by Anonymousreply 245May 26, 2018 5:31 PM

No, R242, try harder.

by Anonymousreply 246May 26, 2018 5:31 PM
The Mueller investigation is dead in the water.

Meanwhile, out here in the real world, the lawsuits continue, as does the Mueller investigation. The only real problem the Mueller investigation has had is that there is simply too much to investigate, too much wrongdoing by too many people in too many places.
Mueller will then reveal all the collusion between Hillary, Obama, and everyone else who took million-dollar bribes over Uranium One and the Iran Deal.

ROFL.... I love how you morons keep pretending this is what Mueller is [italic]really[/italic] investigating. Tell me, did QAnon tell you this? If things have slowed down around here (and I don’t think they really have), I think it’s because there’s too much. It’s starting to blur together and it’s hard to focus on a single subject of outrage. Don Jr. meets with the Arabs! Broidy works with a child molester! Cohen got a million dollars from a Russian oligarch! Trump's lawyer goes to a supposedly top secret intel briefing!

The hideousness of it all literally never stops.

There are going to be some big-name arrests in the next two weeks. Conspiring to unseat a duly-elected President is treason. You people are going to grow tired of that word long before November.

by Anonymousreply 255May 26, 2018 7:12 PM

LOL.... Sure, R255. of course, you people have been making these predictions since November, 2017. Any day now. Really. Seriously. This time we mean it. Hillary is wearing a tracking bracelet because she's already been indicted. Really. Obama's going down. The "Deep State" is going down. Seriously.

And what will you do in two weeks when none of that happens?

by Anonymousreply 256May 26, 2018 7:17 PM

Hillary, Chelsea, Obama and Alec Baldwin all have on the ankle tracking monitors according to these nuts.

by Anonymousreply 257May 26, 2018 7:19 PM

And don't forget Huma, R257. And they seem to honestly believe that the entire FBI/CIA/NSA was "conspiring" to elect Clinton, this despite the fact that the only candidate actually impacted by their actions in the 2016 election was Clinton.

by Anonymousreply 258May 26, 2018 7:22 PM

Pick a position: they’re doing God's work or they’re in league with Satan.

by Anonymousreply 261May 26, 2018 7:35 PM

They are not logical R261. They are trolls who know they are trying to spread false information and lies. Why they keep coming here I don't have a clue. I just block immediately. Their shit is not going to sway DL or change minds. We know they are full of shit.

Trolls or genuinely stupid, conspiracy nuts like D-R.

by Anonymousreply 262May 26, 2018 7:45 PM

Yeah, there was one troll here who in two separate posts about half an hour apart first called the Mueller investigation a sham and a travesty, insisting that the judge in one of the active cases was just waiting to shut him down, and then subsequently insisted that the Mueller investigation was really all about Obama, Clinton, Comey, McCabe, etc., and that it was just a matter of time before all of those people were indicted.

by Anonymousreply 263May 26, 2018 7:52 PM

Maybe R255 is right...

Think back to Trump telling us, "We're gonna win so much! We're gonna win at every level! We're gonna win so much, you may even get tired of winning! You're gonna say, 'please, please, it's too much winning!"

And now think about how it would feel when we win as Michael Cohen is indicted. And then Jared Kushner. And then Don, Jr. And Ivanka, Devin Nunes, Trey Gowdy, Rudy Guiliani. And then the guilty pleas... winning, winning, winning with each one. And just when we think we may even get tired of winning, Kelly Ann and Sarah Sanders get indicted, and then Payl Ryan and Mitch McConnell and even Pence gets indicted, and then we say, "Please, please, it's too much winning!"

But there's so much more winning left to do! "At every level!" And the biggest level of all is when Donald Trump gets indicted for treason.

Maybe this is what Trump meant. And all the Trumpettes can say, "He was right! So much winning!"

by Anonymousreply 264May 26, 2018 8:23 PM

On top of everything, Ole Don stiffed the pee pee girls. Not a dime; not a ruble. He's done this to contractors, banks, and lawyers, hasn't he?

What Trump and his whorish amateurs like Nunes don't get is that the international intelligence community is pushing back. He can fuck with Rosenstein or Mueller and attempt to subvert justice, but he cannot stop the flood of information that is going to swamp hi like a fucking tidal wave from all over the world. And quite honestly it may be our own intel assets encouraging this. I hope so. Because Trump has shown he is perfectly willing to endanger our assets and expose our intelligence networks for his own personal gain.

Yes, foreign interests messed with the election, yes it may have duped some voters, but they didn't literally make anyone "Vote" on election day. I think that is an important distinction (though who knows if they tampered with machines or not)! It is not just a corrupt administration, its also stupid voters. Please don't get me wrong, I believe Trump and his WH are stupid, wretched and criminal.

The important thing to me is how in cahoots Trump's election team were in all of this outside meddling. That makes them treasonous.

by Anonymousreply 278May 27, 2018 2:57 AM

Think about it. Why wouldn't they have hacked the actual vote? Why would they have gone to the years' long effort on multiple technological fronts up to and including hacking their way into voter rolls in something like 20 states but then drawn the line at hacking the actual machines that have been proven multiple times to be easily hackable with accompanying how-to videos online? Did they suddenly grow a conscience? Just didn't want to take that one last step?

Of course they hacked the vote.

by Anonymousreply 285May 27, 2018 6:21 AM

She's a shocker R283. Always looking for ways to somehow analyse and/or justify what Trump does and gets really defensive and snarky when people call her out on it. Over the past six months I've grown to see her as part of the whole Trump problem. She only ever responds to 'blue tick' people so I wish more of them would call her out. When she's on CNN she's so fucking smug as well.

by Anonymousreply 286May 27, 2018 6:26 AM

I felt the election was hacked in 2016, but I was told I was crazy and a cry baby, and Hillary lover. The third thing was true. I did not believe Jill "I went to Putin's party" Stein's bs recount, this was just part of the game to legitimize.

I wish I had no reason to feel smug about this, I wish I were wrong, but this was absolutely a stolen election on many sides and many levels. This may be the only true "3-D Chess" associated with the Trump dumpster fire.

by Anonymousreply 287May 27, 2018 6:30 AM

I would even dare to claim that they helped those Russian hackers to manipulate the voting outcome without raising immediate supsicion by creating some false narrative through their social media manipulations.

by Anonymousreply 292May 27, 2018 9:37 AM

You want numbers? Fine. Here's your number: The number is some where around 78,000, dearie. Here. I'll be more specific: It was Michigan- .02% or 10,704 votes; Pennsylvania- 46,765 or .07; and Wisconsin- 22,172 or .08. They hacked the machines. They went in and changed the votes. Yes, it is disgusting that we had something like 60, million voters supporting Trump. But this begs the question, of how many of those 60 million were real people. No one seems to be questioning his win in red ststes, but even there it's possible there were votes manipulated to inflate his totals. Look. With Rudy on TV nightly insisting Hillary was going to be indicted any minute, and the criminal indictments were being prepared as we speak, and Comey re-opening the e-mail investigation because of Weiner's computer, in late October it is not surprising people already primed to mistrust Hillary decided to vote for a well known name. I can remember vividly people who refused to believed that was really how Trump was. Even TV pundits kept insisting he would "pivot" remember that word? He was going to stop being the reality TV show guy and start being "Presidential." But he didn't.

by Anonymousreply 299May 27, 2018 7:05 PM

R293 ["They hacked the machines. They went in and changed the votes."]

I don't how much it matters, but it's my belief they got into the voting systems and changed the final tallies, as opposed to going into the actual machines. The difference is the hackers could have done it from a troll farm in St. Petersburg, whereas hacking the machines would require moles planted in the specific locations. I believe changing the tallies is a lot more difficult to prove. I think it was investigated and no evidence was found, but I also think that was because they did too good of a job. We might find out for certain anywhere from one week to 20 years from now.

by Anonymousreply 300May 27, 2018 7:40 PM

R300, they didn't have to get into the voting machines the Republicans controlled the vote counting machines.

In 2004 Republicans controlled Ohio's vote counting machines. They crashed just after 11pm, which caused the votes to be sent to RNC controlled computers in TN to be counted and rerouted to Ohio. This resulted in a large and unexpected shift of votes from Kerry to Bush.

In 2008 Democrats controlled the machines and there was no crash.

in 2012 Republicans once again controlled the vote counting machines and there was a repeat of the 2004 crash almost to the exact minute. Anonymous claims they saw this happen and rerouted the votes back to Ohio. See the subsequent Karl Rove freakout when Ohio vote totals were announced.

by Anonymousreply 307May 28, 2018 4:22 AM

Anyone who considers themselves a real journalist needs to stop making allowances for this monster. He knows exactly what he's doing. He continually creates his own version of events deliberately to CON vince people to go along with him while he continues to rip us off. Period. Tell me he didn't know Trump University was a scam? These are the same people who say he doesn't really mean it when he describes people as rapists and criminals.

Look at his policies for fuck's sake!!! He is separating families, small children, from their parents. It's the cruelest, most inhumane policy I have ever witnessed. I don't care about what happened in the 1940's. While what we did with the internment camps in the 40's was terrible, at least we had the fig leaf of justification of saying we were at war. Right now there is nothing happening but hi fucking fever dreams and conspiracy theories!

He's a liar and his lies are dangerous. He is a LIAR and he uses his lies to manipulate the masses. The last time I saw someone harangue the masses was in a documentary about Hitler. Maggie Haberman is either a Trump apologist or a journalist she cannot be both.

It's most certainly true. But, as usual, guys like Trump project their own crimes and flaws (in this case: Being part of a deep state conspiracy) onto others.

by Anonymousreply 309May 28, 2018 9:09 AM

If your talking about the federal government in general, it's not really a "deep state." It's civil servants who have been there for years. They may have gotten their jobs when Reagan was POTUS, WTF knows. But they are the ones who keep our government running day to day, no matter which imbecile is in the White House or which imbecile has been appointed to run their agency or department. So if some asshole gets appointed to destroy the environment at the Environmental PROTECTION Agency there may be people who work there who disagree with the goals of someone like Scott Pruitt. Or maybe you work in the Education Department. And Betsy, "I know nothing about education" de Vos is the boss. Ans she wants to dismantle public education. Well, maybe you went to work there when Clinton was POTUS and you have a problem with her point of view and her policies. Because there is an apparent conflict between the goals and the mission of public education, and the desire to privatize everything and make profit the motive for fucking with student loans. So yeah. There's a "Deep State" in every department and federal agency, thank God! And we ought to be very grateful for that. I laugh every time I hear one of the Trumpanistas refer to it as "deep state" because they are so fucking absurd, they see competency as a conspiracy.

by Anonymousreply 313May 28, 2018 1:23 PM

Rove knew how to set-up a network of vote hacking. It's called cheating without being caught red-handed at the moment.

The media didn't dig deep, and the Democrats shrugged their shoulders; and the most concerns ones just did hand wringing.

Certain election officials were part of the game, or GOP loyalists who chose not to recognize irregularities.

by Anonymousreply 314May 28, 2018 2:01 PM

Maggie was a homely fat girl with glasses growing up. Now she is trying to "rebrand" herself. She's wearing makeup. Takes her glasses off occasionally and is wearing her hair down. Most importantly she had lost weight. Trump was nice to her on a few occasions so she'll always be a bit of an apologist. She really is not a very good journalist. But her attitude on Twitter , where she is never wrong, even when confronted with facts- she stubbornly defends herself. She just doesn't have enough confidence to ever admit she might have gotten something wrong. Examples are: Michelle Wolff made fun of Sanders looks. No, Michelle was talking about Sanders character. Trump lies. He is pathological. He gets no benefit of the doubt. The NY Times is going to the right . I cancelled my subscription. Maybe Haberman is just doing what she's told, like a good girl.

by Anonymousreply 318May 28, 2018 5:00 PM

I live in a red area of a Blue state and I would explain Trump voters for you but there is nothing to explain. If they seem brainwashed, stupid, easily manipulated, racist, and mean-spirited it's because they are. What you see is what you get.

And we should also be prepared for people to misread signs when it comes to Republicans. Yes, they'll look a reporter in the eye and tell them Trump is a disappointment or his policies hurt them and guess what? They'll race to the voting booth to vote for him and every other Republican on the ticket. They'll do the same in midterms.

And they won't give a damn what Mueller turns up. Fox will tell them it's all lies and they will believe whatever Fox tells them to believe.

It's time the NYT and WaPo and other media outlets stop coddling these asshole Trumpers. There is nothing deeper there. There is no secret to unlocking their madness. They are not one click away from being reasonable if we could only figure out how to reach them.

The only good thing about these dicks is they don't present themselves as anything but what they are. If you refuse to take them at face value that's your problem.

by Anonymousreply 319May 28, 2018 5:31 PM
her refusal to call Trump a liar because “sometimes when he lies he doesn’t know what he’s saying and he actually thinks he’s telling the truth.”

Just as ignorance of the law doesn't magically absolve crimes, mental deficiency and sheer incompetence don't magically turn the lies of our fricking head of state into excusable senile moments. Though Haberman and her defenders in the media surely try very hard.

by Anonymousreply 320May 28, 2018 5:36 PM

Call me a conspiracy nut, but I believe the Republican owned media's main job is to establish the narrative that there are enough voters out there voting against their own interest, by voting Republican, that the actual voting fraud committed by the Republican Party goes unchecked.

And yeah, I believe the Democratic Party is in on this and they play their goody two shoes part as much as the Republican play their bully part. It's all puppet theatre for the masses creating the illusion that every once in a while the general public has a say in what's going on.

I don't get why journalists make every effort to avoid using the word "lie". Is it a legal thing, that they can be sued for libel?

Take Kyle Griffin who's a producer on Lawrence O'Donnell's show for example. For reference, Lawrence is one of the few who never shies from calling Trump's lies LIES with capital L. But even good people like Kyle who is very informative on twitter, slip into the habit of piling on a lot of words for what is the verb "lie". Take this tweet, for instance:
Trump told Naval Academy graduates that he gave the military its first raise in years. That’s not true. Troops have received a pay raise every year for the last 10 years, and nearly every year since 1945.

Every journalism school teaches students to use action verbs instead of structures with "be". "That's not true" is a weak statement. So what exactly prevented Kyle from tweeting the following instead?
Trump LIED to Naval Academy graduates that he gave the military it's first raise in years. The truth is that troops have received a pay raise every year for the last 10 years, and nearly every year since 1945."

People on twitter hardly have the attention span for one sentence, let alone three which bury or obfuscate the lead. No wonder the other side's propaganda works. It works because Trump has no qualms bellowing "CROOKED Hillary" - not "Hillary who said things. Some things weren't true." or "Hillary who used falsehoods."
Is it a legal thing, that they can be sued for libel?

Highly unlikely, particularly when it comes to someone like Trump. This is usually portrayed as being all about being "balanced." "We don't know whether he just doesn't know the facts in this case or whether he does and is deliberately lying, so we'll hedge and use various euphemisms."

by Anonymousreply 325May 28, 2018 6:17 PM

I'm also growing tired of the polite "untruth" or "false statement" bullshit from the media. When it's a demonstrable lie, just say the president lied.

Rep. Thomas Garrett (R-Va.) announced Monday that he is struggling with alcoholism and will abandon his run for a second term in Congress so he can focus on recovery and his family.

Garrett, a member of the conservative Freedom Caucus, is the 48th Republican to retire or announce they will not seek reelection to the House this year.

On Friday, a Politico report quoted four unidentified former staffers who accused Garrett and his wife, Flanna, of ordering staff to walk their dog, carry groceries or perform other personal tasks for the couple – a practice prohibited by House ethics rules.

Garrett, 46, declined to answer questions about those allegations on Friday. In the video statement, he said: “The recent attacks on my family and myself were a series of half truths and whole lies. ”

He said he had been honest in every aspect of his life, save one: his drinking, which he said people close to him had cautioned him about since his early 20s.

The “Deep State” is the government, consisting of a cross section of “We, the People”.

Let’s keep in mind that the Government isn’t anybody’s enemy. It’s us. Its not perfect, but it does considerably far more good than otherwise. I’d prefer a stronger government, accountable to the people, to counter the power of big business, which serves only the financial interests of its shareholders and is completely amoral. We also need government to counter the interest of the 1%. Don’t scoff, is there any other option? We can’t rely on Big Labor - it’s been littleized.

I am hoping the fallout from the Trump Administration with be Post-Nixonian-like reforms to campaign financial regulations, a reversal of Citizens United, and other reforms. Maybe a change to the electoral college.

by Anonymousreply 347May 29, 2018 12:31 AM

I hope so too, r347. We really need campaign finance reform. As it stands now it's taxation without representation as many politicians answer to their donors and not the public.

by Anonymousreply 348May 29, 2018 1:48 AM
"Deep State" is really about the layers of bureaucracy of the federal government, and less about political ideology. They are employees, first and foremost, focused on keeping their jobs, having salary raises with benefits, and are looking forward to retirement.

No. Don't excuse or try to explain away a propagandistic conspiracy invented and supported to distract and confuse GOP voters and supporters. To these fascists, anyone disagreeing with authoritarian money grabbing and fact-based policy is "Deep State."

A complex of multiple and interlinked bureaucracy and a system of organizational memory in which incredible amounts of funding and power are managed necessarily will have its issues. There are rules, protocols, laws, conventions, traditions and ethics involved to maintain a better process.

Trump and the GOP are damaging the very attributes that protect us. And they are enacting a political purge.

Finally, acting as if government workers who are interested in their own lives, careers and futures are "Deep State" is a deplorable accusation, because it attempts to demonize people who behave just like everyone else does - and naturally so.

This is the greatest political crisis in our history since the Civil War and its aftermath. It is time to see things clearly and speak with verifiable conviction.

by Anonymousreply 349May 29, 2018 1:59 AM

Wow, R349, well said!

by Anonymousreply 350May 29, 2018 4:39 AM

Tweet by Warren Leight re the Yankees crowd booing the mention of Giuliani’s name:

When an aging hyena sides with Scar, and is surprised when the inhabitants of the Pride Lands turn on him.

by Anonymousreply 351May 29, 2018 5:02 AM

It's interesting to me that these self-proclaimed nationalists not only don't want to pay taxes to take care of their communities, but have now skidded so far from the edge of reason that they consider, as r349 says, a government in which they are active participants to be The Enemy.

I'm not sure if I'm more disgusted by the refusal of the deplorables to engage in anything resembling critical thought or more in awe of Russia being able to brainwash the backwaters of our nation with the same propaganda they use on their own citizens, without even bothering to swap out the proper nouns.

by Anonymousreply 352May 29, 2018 5:10 AM

Deep State is not a new term or phrase. It was used decades ago as a political science term. R330 is basically correct in the historical context of motive and perhaps that was the point. Job security and financial rewards are fundamental to the founding concept.

The argumentative acknowledgement of Alt-right/Trumpian/Giuliani/Fox messaging of fictitious conspiracies, as displayed by the emotional r331, then r339, r349 responses, is what Trump and cohorts seek to perpetuate. The forced, distorted controversy is what the Alt-right wants argued, if not majority bought, and certainly not dismissed. Making it a fight is Trump's deflection and projection.

It is decision-making bodies believed to be within government who are relatively permanent, and whose policies and long-term plans are largely unaffected by changing administrations. That happens. But DJT & friends have described their agenda as being personally hostile, because it is deemed useful in his attempt to escape criminal prosecution. Make the bureaucracy the enemy.

Peter Dale Scott, Michael Wolff, Kevin Shipp, David W. Brown, M. Ambinder, Mike Lofgren, and numerous others have written about it. However, not all of them advance a uniform theory; nor necessarily agree on all the symptoms.

by Anonymousreply 353May 29, 2018 10:24 AM

Yes, R352, and to your point, James Clapper said Russia was even more dangerous than China particularly because they have been able to burrow deep into the social fractures and divisions of Americans, and have exploited them and exacerbated them so effectively. While Trump treats our government and our country as if it's a bazaar where he and his family can buy and sell at will to enrich themselves, Russia is weakening us by encouraging division and feeding our fears & our ignorance. They depend on Deplorables' collective in ability to engage in critical thought. It's embarrassingly obvious that the masses are easily lead, mislead and as weak minded as ever.

by Anonymousreply 354May 29, 2018 10:27 AM

My theory: Jared's flipped, probably wired. To help his cover, he fed Trump some sob story about his Mueller interrogations, he and Ivanka are the "young and beautiful lives ruined by the Russia investigation" to whom Twitler alludes.

by Anonymousreply 355May 29, 2018 10:41 AM

I guess I could add his newly granted security clearance gives him access to what Mueller needs.

by Anonymousreply 356May 29, 2018 10:42 AM

R356, Mueller has all the "security clearances" he needs. I don't believe Jared is wearing a wire. I think Trumps recent acceleration of attacks against the investigation and the DOJ, are because Jared was called in for questioning and it outraged Trump. Giving Jared the unlimited security clearance was Trump's way of telling the FBI "Fuck you!" I keep hoping...and believing that the Intel community, including the FBI Counter Intelligence team, will not give Jared anything vital or critically important to our national security. I think what Trump and his operatives fail to consider is that once he gives Jared this unlimited access, Jared is now in a position to be charged with Treason. Stealing money and elections is one thing. Treason is something else. Jared is not in a good place. Every time Trump engages in some action to protect himself he is making everything worse. He just cannot get out of his own way.

by Anonymousreply 357May 29, 2018 10:52 AM

R357 here meant to add that Trump's instinct isto lash out and fight and seek revenge, go after people like Rosenstein, Mueller, etc. And that is the worse thing he could do. I think Mueller alr eady has more than enough to bring charges. He has proof and he has evidence of wrong doing. I wish he would get on with it. People say the investigation is one year old, but I go back to July of 2016 when it all first started and by my calculation it's coming up on two years. Time to fry the big fish.

by Anonymousreply 358May 29, 2018 10:56 AM

Too bad Trump and his GOP cronies never ask "Who’s going to give back the young and beautiful lives (and others) that have been devastated and destroyed by gun violence?"

What a fucking asshole.

by Anonymousreply 359May 29, 2018 12:38 PM

Right now he is on the attack with Mueller. Insisting Mueller is interfering and trying to influence the Midterms.

by Anonymousreply 360May 29, 2018 1:23 PM

One of his insane tweets this morning:

Why aren’t the 13 Angry and heavily conflicted Democrats investigating the totally Crooked Campaign of totally Crooked Hillary Clinton. It’s a Rigged Witch Hunt, that’s why! Ask them if they enjoyed her after election celebration!

What the heck does that last sentence mean? "If they enjoyed her"?

by Anonymousreply 361May 29, 2018 1:28 PM

r361, He's being sarcastic. He's asking if they enjoyed her after election celebration because she NEVER had one, because he "won" the election instead.

He's the most disgusting, deplorable "human being" in American history, or mighty close at least.

Hate Trump.

r363, I hope it drops on his head.

by Anonymousreply 364May 29, 2018 1:53 PM

If this Mueller investigation goes on, quietly gathering evidence, much longer, and Trump Is accelerating his attack campaign(which is already paying off) I'm not sure what will happen. This country is already so divided ...sometimes I don't recognize this as the USA. Loved Jim Carreys picture of "castrato, Adam Schiff, telling him to start fighting Trump instead of giving his soft spoken interviews. , Jim Carrey also did a picture of a child being taken from her mother by ICE. Tump is pictured as the Statue of Liberty setting the American flag on fire. I wish he could speak out but he's not the right person. But thank God for Avenatti. He swears that even if Trump shuts down Mueller, he can't shut down or fire him. And he has a ton of evidence on Cohen Trump etc.

by Anonymousreply 365May 29, 2018 1:57 PM
Something major must be about to drop...

Perhaps, R363, but it is just as likely that it is simply a part of his on-going war to undermine the legitimacy of the free press. His comment to Leslie Stahl that this was planned and deliberate so that people will not believe negative stories about him is grounds enough to remove Orange Cheatolini. This whole system works -- for the most part -- when people don't abuse the power they are given. To take the megaphone that is provided to the President of the United States and use it to deliberately distort the truth sow seeds of doubt about anything critical of tRump is among the most despicable things that he has done because it is so insidious.

by Anonymousreply 366May 29, 2018 2:01 PM

None of this stuff he does is spontaneous. It's very calculated right down to the words. He has Steve Miller, Kelly Anne who is not a dummy, Frank Luntz, etc. and other advisors, not just Hannity, Pirro and Giuliani. He's still talking to Priebus and the RNC itself has internals. And there's Bannon. yes, he is still around. Maybe he isn't talking to Trump, but he is out here doing something to support him.

They must have got some numbers from internal polling telling him which phrases and words are effective, and what he needs to do to prevent slippage in the Midterms. We may as well prepare for the fact that The GOP is not going to do as badly as we had hoped. Right now, my by calculation we need 23 seats. We have 42 (?) members of the House including the Speaker voluntarily "retiring." We have to focus and fight like hell.

by Anonymousreply 367May 29, 2018 2:07 PM

I agree about Schiff. Maybe his hands are tied, and he is simply giving these constant interviews to make sure the public hears the other side of what Nunes, Trump, et al are ranting about and lying. But Schifff gets on my nerves. We need someone more dynamic and who is viewed more sympathetically. Some of the Obama people are speaking out, but most of them aren't that well known. Elizabeth Warren is good. Eric Holder is great. Kamal does an excellent job. I wish Biden would speak out more often. Biden may or may not run. He may or may not live that damned long. So IMO he needs to come out swinging right now as if the Mid Terms were the general election. He needs to be seen to be helping get Dems elected.

TMZ Goes MAGA: How Harvey Levin’s Gossip Empire Became Trump’s Best Friend

As the Access Hollywood fallout spread, the TMZ tip line received an email from a lawyer in Los Angeles claiming to have another bombshell tape of Trump in an elevator in Trump Tower, seven sources familiar with the matter told The Daily Beast. (The Daily Beast has uncovered no proof that the tape exists after interviews with more than a dozen former and current TMZ staffers and others with knowledge of the situation. But the actions that Levin took next, these sources felt, spoke volumes about his relationship with Trump.)

Levin moved quickly and alerted TMZ’s parent company, Warner Bros. and its parent company, Time Warner, seeking legal guidance as well as financial approval to buy the tape. Sources say even Time Warner Chairman Jeff Bewkes, was told about the purported tape and approved a significant financial amount to purchase it.

“It was on,” said a source close to the sensitive discussions. “It is not every day Jeff is saying here is a fuck load of money to buy a tape of Donald Trump in an elevator. There was a reason for that.”

“The next morning the source said the tape was no longer for sale and it was insinuated that it had been bought by someone else. Then the source went completely dark,” Beckerman told The Daily Beast.

Is out Dear Leader going mad on Twitter because of today's report that "Hurricane Maria killed more than 4,600 people in Puerto Rico, 70 times the official toll, according to estimates in a Harvard University study" and he wants to deflect from his administration's abhorrent response?

Or did he just find out that Jared has been wearing a wire to Oval Office meetings?

by Anonymousreply 373May 29, 2018 3:26 PM

I want some enterprising investigative reporter to make a list of what the Trump administration is costing taxpayers. What are WE the people subsidizing? This means his travel costs to run to the golf courses, the amont of money his resorts are paid by the federal gov't to house his security detail and his staff, the amount of tax payer dollars people like Scott Pruitt Carson, De Vos and others are costing us, etc. etc. etc. The money the federal gov't aid to his office tower in NYC and his hotel in D.C. Every time a meeting is held there or a reception he gets paid. Let's start tallying up the expenses. Oh. And do it for Jared, Ivanka, Donnie Jr.s & Eric, too. Melania, etc. All those fuckers. Also the WH staffers present and past. The Obama's paid out of their own pocket for vacations and personal travel for the kids, etc. THey also paid to redecorate the private quarters. What has Trump done? YOu know he would never sleep in a bed or a room Obama lived and slept in. That was one of his objections for not wanting to move to the WH. He was also pissed off at the fact he would be in a fishbowl and had to use the Secret Service instead of his own goon squad.

by Anonymousreply 374May 29, 2018 3:36 PM

Tweet @ R361 had to leave foam all over his tiny angry thumbs. Repetition of 'totally Crooked' [sic] - mere 'Crooked' not strong enough any more, as no-one ever listens; plus 'Rigged' Witch Hunt, witch hunts being by definition partial anyway. (Trump should know that, given the 'very fine people' who are his friends in the KKK.)

The final sarcasm just sounds desperate, pathetic, like a man on the ropes. For a 'winner', he certainly sounds a lot like a loser. As though trying to convince himself, despite what he dimly suspects is waiting for him.

by Anonymousreply 384May 29, 2018 7:29 PM

Biden could do it. But he appears to be unwilling to hit too hard too often. This situation doesn't demand calculation. It demands outrage. It demands leadership that will set the benchmark, set the standard turn us away from the petty mean spirited nastiness. You know, I was a Hillary Clinton supporter unequivocally in 2016. No apologies. But in 2007 I didn't support her. One of the main reasons why is because she put up with Bush as a Senator, and rarely ever spoke up to criticize him. And then suddenly it was like, OK, Ima run for President now and I'm gonna get partisan. I asked WTF have you been for the past eight years? Now Biden needs, or who ever is going to run needs to stand up now. As someone said recently, if it's unacceptable, then we should not accept it. Adam Schiff is not outre enough! Maybe Howard Dean? I think he might be able to get out here and raise the kind of hell on a consistent basis that we need.

You're right, R395.

Don't take the following musing to imply I have even the smallest shred of sympathy for Trump, but jeez the guy can't be sleeping very well these days. I've got to imagine that every waking moment of his life is spent seeing the figurative noose tighten around him, and sends his brain into total, complete, and never-ending panic mode.

Oh, wait. I forgot. He's the healthiest person to ever occupy the presidency. And we know this because he dictated the letter from his doctor saying so.

Avenatti dropped a bombshell tonight too. Wall Street Journal apparently had the scoop on some dirt between Stormy Daniels old attorney, the guy who was really working with Cohen, and there is a trail of e-mails. Anyway the Wall Street Journal had the story about the conspiracy between the two attorneys and the payoffs BEFORE the 2016 election, and they held the story and didn't publish it.

Every email and discrete document would count as a separate item, and that doesn’t necessarily mean that there is incriminating material in each, R403. The court didn’t make determinations on relevance, only attorney-client privilege. Likely the vast majority of it won’t even be relevant to any investigation, even considering just how corrupt Cohen is.

The software to sift through a million documents is pretty advanced, so it won’t take long.

I Watch a clip of Rudy last night on someone's show, and they were replaying a comment Rudy made within the past three days. He was talking about their public comments being essentially "PR strategy." Rudy then explained to CNN that "We're ultimately talking about impeachment here" or something like that, and "since Impeachment is political we have to make our case to the American people because they will decide." I guess Rudy expects "the masses" to pressure Congress into not impeaching. Rudy has abandoned reality and anything resembling logic.

by Anonymousreply 419May 30, 2018 11:37 AM

Want to add that Rudy seems to be giving away the game. Not that it's a PR strategy, because that's pretty obvious, but that they know they are heading for Impeachment internally. That's a pretty big reveal. Rudy gives a lot away. LOL!

by Anonymousreply 420May 30, 2018 11:40 AM

Rudy basically just admitted guilt.

by Anonymousreply 421May 30, 2018 12:50 PM

yes, R421, and what makes this so hilarious is Rudy is convinced that a President cannot be charged with a crime. So dumbass is probably advising Trump to stay in office where he is "protected." Which is complete bullshit. They are hoping that they can turn public opinion to their advantage, and that the Republicans will hold on to the House and the Senate and he can sit there like a lump of shit for the next 6 years. That's their "plan." Not that the President is "not guilty" but that he can get away with it. We have to Vote. I don't care who is running on the Democratic side, vote for them.

by Anonymousreply 423May 30, 2018 1:47 PM

The only way Rudy G.'s hiring makes sense is that he is supposed to make people feel sorry for Donald for having such an incompetent fool running his mouth while representing Trump. Like, some sort of Dumb & Dumber shit show where people just want to feel sorry for these guys instead of hating or fearing them. And with the people distracted Trump's associates keep doing their sleazy schemes.

by Anonymousreply 436May 30, 2018 4:51 PM

I wish there was some sort of "erase everything this fucker did" button that could be pushed the moment a Democrat becomes president again. Beyond all the regulatory and executive order bullshit, which can be overturned over time, what about these fucking judges. If he's an illegitimate president, they should all be removed, including that piece of unqualified shit, Gorsuch. The hidden damages are the most dangerous and long-lasting. Forty years from now new reports will be saying "such-and-such judge, a Trump appointee". Sickening.

Tell you what. Every living ass among us better get on twitter or Facebook or WTF eve and the first time a reporter tries to make a huge issue of e-mails we need to kick their fucking asses. I don't care what the rigged IG report tells us. The IG has been lean toward Trump for a while. The fact is IG reports in all departments are supposed to review and criticize and recommend to the department. They aren't focused on the subject of any investigation. They are focused on process. So they will be critical and negative and of course Trump will blow it all up and throw it on two people: Comey, and Hillary. Comey will catch some heat. It's inevitable. But we have exhausted this subject as a news story and we need to let the fuckers in the media know that while we expect them to cover the report, we do not want this to be the headline for the next two months. If it had not been for their obsession with Hillary's e-mails and reporters chasing down every nasty rumor Giuliani could foment, we would not have this asshole in the White House today. They should have taken him out during the primaries.

Why does Jake Tapper and CNN have this Mary Catherine Ham, the right Wing journalist that operates the blog Hot Air? Prior, she was a regular with Bill O'Reilly. She was saying the truth was inbetween what the FBI was doing using an informant and what Trump was espousing. Even Trey Gowdy, who was briefed, said the FBI acted properly in this regard. How does Ham know the truth is in the middle leaning toward Trump? Hearing both sides is fine, but CNN should not be putting on propaganda bullshit for staged, ridiculous debates and ratings. Fox's Sheppard Smith and even Fox Trump supporter, Judge Napolitano, have disagreed with Trump's false claims on this matter.

The interesting thing about Trump’s disapproval rating is that the man is not facing any national crises. The only thing that comes close is the Korea situation, but there are no emergencies. He’s managed to inherit a smoothly running government and create chaos and cause the very same problems that he complains about as some kind of “mess”that he has to deal with.

He started with low unemployment that was trending further down. Rising GDP, etc. Economically, things were looking up. Now he’s wrecking all that by creating trade disputes, adding tariffs, and breaking agreements. His only “accomplishment” is the tax cut that really only helps the wealthy at the expense of the deficit that is everyone’s obligation.

Domestically, he’s bungled healthcare reform by repealing and not replacing. Ditto, with sadistic but ineffective immigration policies. He’s divided the nation by his childish tantrums and overt racism.

In foreign affairs, Iran was contained and he should have used the ten-year freeze period to dialog with Iran and build trust towards an improved agreement, but he bungled that. Korea has been a mess, and shows no indication of getting any better. This meeting, if it happens, will be a con, accomplishing nothing but a photo op and elevating Kim, but getting nothing in return. He gave Israel what they wanted by moving our embassy, but also got nothing in return from them. Some dealmaker.

He deserves his low ratings. He’s wrecking things that were going well, and yet he’s faced little in the way of a real challenge. When he does, we’ll see just how low his ratings can really go!

by Anonymousreply 462May 31, 2018 9:42 AM

It's disgusting that Puerto Rico doesn't even get mentioned in the news, let alone addressed by this administration. The complete lack of reasonable response by Trump, and the devastating report this week about the true number of fatalities would've been enough to end any other president.

Where the fuck are the Dems? Why don't we have anyone speaking out and forcing the news to cover these issues and, thus, driving the White House to respond to them? Instead, we're just sitting back, hoping Mueller will take care of the problem and letting the GOP shit all over the entire country.

Rachel Maddow gave the Mayor of San Juan a lot of coverage during the so-called "recovery." I hope TV Media will do a lot more on Puerto Rico, and then at the very end of their broadcast with 5 seconds to go, they would say, "In other news, resident Trump continues to rant about the cancelling of Roseanne's sitcom on ABC. " The media needs to make him look as absurd as possible. And they need to make his supporters uncomfortable. So many ways to do that. We think confronting & arguing is the right response when often it isn't. Isolating them and forcing them to look in the mirror can have a more desirable effect.

Trump pressured Jeff Sessions to reclaim control of the Russia probe on at least 4 separate occasions, 3 times in person and once over the phone, sources tell Axios.

Trump told Sessions he’d be a “hero” to conservatives if he did the “right thing” and took back control over the Russia probe, two sources tell Axios.

Trump also told Sessions he’d be a hero if he investigated Hillary Clinton, according to one of the sources.

Trump also privately mused about whether it would be possible to limit the scope of the Mueller investigation to avoid his business affairs.

by Anonymousreply 498June 1, 2018 1:51 AM

R498, do you really want Mueller to reduce his work to the same sloppy level that actually has gotten all these GOP criminals in trouble? Have patience!

by Anonymousreply 499June 1, 2018 1:58 AM

R498, if Mueller doesn't do that, the cases get tossed out and/or the people acquitted. This investigation has about 30 separate threads going on, with dozens of targets, dozens more witnesses, millions of documents, multiple financial institutions and multiple foreign countries. He's moving faster and has had more results than prior investigations of this magnitude. He has to keep ignoring the chaos and bullshit and stay focused on his task.

by Anonymousreply 500June 1, 2018 1:59 AM

There are charges right now that I could prove. Start with the easy and keep investigating. We are losing our democracy because repugs refuse to stand up for our country. Our country is in a desperate situation and Jarred, Donald Junior and Cohen could be indicted.

by Anonymousreply 501June 1, 2018 2:05 AM
As far as I know Cohen can not be pardoned until he is convicted?

No, he can be granted a blanket pardon absolving him of any crimes he may have committed or may be charged with in the future. I believe that's what Ford granted Nixon.

There was talk right after the election where some pundits discussed how Drumpf could fuck with Hillary by giving her a similar pardon which they believed would damn her forever.

by Anonymousreply 503June 1, 2018 2:12 AM

r500 why doesn't "The Resistance" or "Blue Wave 2018" #BeBest or #BeMueller and organize themselves somewhat by abandoning this "we have this special ideology tent, and YOU can't be in it!" garbage that worked so well at keeping would-be voters at home? Showing up at midterms would help Mueller a lot: it'd turn the Senate, the House of Representatives, and we might see some impeachment happening. But what I saw, on what I think'll be my last participating day on Twitter, are self-styled "intelligence community" subject matter experts (John Schindler, @20committee) having whacks at Joy Reid for lying about the unpopular views she put on her blog a dozen years ago, and those self-styled experts in their own blogs as recently as July 2016 post "i'm #NeverHillary, so I'll be voting Trump." Like I'm supposed to take #TeamPatriot as anything other than disinfo at this point. Weak fukn resistance if a "intelligence expert" like Schindler claims he knew since 2013 that Snowden and Assange were Russian assets and that everyone who didn't then is a current idiot, but that in July 2016 nobody knew Trump was compromised by the Russians.

"You need to be on our side! We conspire against our own! We're opportunistic and foment division!"

by Anonymousreply 514June 1, 2018 3:54 AM

His base largely consists of opioid/heroin addicts, racists/bigots, cluster Bs, slow-witted types, codependents, and people on the autism spectrum. Losing their jobs (if they even have one) and starving (many could stand to lose a couple hundred pounds) won't turn them against him; they will just blame the democrats, the Mueller investigation, the FBI, Rosenstein, Obama, Michelle, Sasha, Hillary, Chelsea, Buddy, Socks, NFL kneelers, Nancy Pelosi, Jeff Sessions, ABC, John McCain, Facebook, Stormy Daniels, and CNN. They're cult members.

by Anonymousreply 515June 1, 2018 3:59 AM

Agree that the various pardons are mainly fuck-yous to the prosecutors who got those people convicted (as Comey did Martha Stewart). Trumpism is just personal and revenge-driven (when it's not simply explicable by keeping his own profits afloat). Pardoning someone Comey put away is just the legal equivalents of having hookers pee on a bed Obama once slept in.

by Anonymousreply 516June 1, 2018 4:10 AM

R513 It's been pointed out that Trump is very much about celebrity. He probably had never even heard of Jack Johnson. However, Sylvester Stallone called Trump on behalf of Johnson's family to ask for the pardon. Stallone, of course, is a celebrity.

by Anonymousreply 518June 1, 2018 4:44 AM

I've noticed that whenever it seems like Trump is on the upswing somehow, such as these pardons obviously meant to demoralize those of us praying the Mueller investigation destroys his Administration, it's immediately followed by a fresh round of terrible news for Trump. Fingers crossed!

by Anonymousreply 519June 1, 2018 5:14 AM

Yeah, the pardons are just public promises to the people who can lie for him. I still believe Mueller has the goods already, and the quiet is because the people working for him are actually taking their oaths seriously. I know this is hard to believe in the era of Trump and his sieve of an administration, I refuse to allow the concern-trolling get me down.

Of course, I also feel like I woke up on the day of the 2016 election in a different time line than the one I had been living. I guess honor and truth have few adherents anymore.

by Anonymousreply 520June 1, 2018 5:27 AM

But only because he is a Republican. The Republicans still keep going after Hillary, and Bill, even though there is nothing there and they cannot get a proper legal case against her or the Clintons. But, apparently, that doesn't stop the Republican Party and their media propaganda outlets to demand more attempts to bring her down and lock her up. But yeah, the Liberals have to do it by the book or else.

by Anonymousreply 521June 1, 2018 5:28 AM

R519 " it's immediately followed by a fresh round of terrible news for Trump."

That's not necessarily a coincidence, (if that's what you were implying). In many instances, Trump is notified anywhere from 1 to 48 hrs in advance when something is about to break. So.he's deliberately trying to deflect to sway attention.

by Anonymousreply 522June 1, 2018 5:49 AM

Lawrence Tribe and other legal experts are saying the President cannot use the Pardon as a way to protect himself from charges of criminal wrong doing nor use it to interfere with an investigation in which he is the subject. So he can signal all he wants. He is getting real shitty legal advice.

Look we all know Cohen is mobbed up. But the real juicy part is that they apparently have Trump on tape talking to Cohen and it's real ugly. All you need to remember is that Cohen worshipped Trump, obsessively. He imitated Trump.

by Anonymousreply 524June 1, 2018 2:01 PM

I think Trump probably CAN use the pardon that way, R523... it just might get him in deeper hot water later on down the line as it's borderline obstruction.

by Anonymousreply 525June 1, 2018 2:51 PM

Need some big news today! Come on Mueller let's see those indictments fly!

by Anonymousreply 526June 1, 2018 2:59 PM

I think the word !"borderline" has lost its meaning when it comes to Trump's actions. Like, honestly. Do we really have to give Trump some credit that he, supposedly, tip toes some line where his actions could still be legal?

by Anonymousreply 527June 1, 2018 3:00 PM

All Mueller has to do is name Trump an unindicted co-conspirator and he CAN NOT pardon anyone involved. Thats how they prevented Nixon from doing it.

by Anonymousreply 528June 1, 2018 3:23 PM

Imagine the Orange one's reaction to that R528!! One can dream..

by Anonymousreply 529June 1, 2018 3:48 PM

R523 On Don Lemon last night, a panelist theorized that what Trump is doing with these ridiculous pardons is getting us ready for....wait for it..... when he pardons himself! (I think it was historian Douglas Brinkley, anyone else who might have seen it please correct me if I'm wrong).

If I hear one more pundit say "If Trump does X or Y we're heading for a Constitutional crisis" I am going to punch my TV. We're IN a Constitutional crisis. We HAVE been since he was sworn in. Of course he's acting like Hitler Jr. That's who he is. That's who he has always been. The framer's just didn't anticipate there would be an entire political party that would aid and abet such a traitorous, amoral psychopath and let him do whatever he wanted.

Paul Ryan needs to be hounded day and night about why he's not doing anything. McConnell needs to be hounded. Grassley needs to be hounded.

Instead reporters ask one question, the Repukes ignore it and everyone goes about their day.

Trump is a tumor. The Republican party is the cancer.

by Anonymousreply 533June 1, 2018 5:34 PM

On Rachel the other night, she opened with a story about Watergate, and how Nixon confided to H.R. Halderman that he most likely would soon resign. He finally did, but not until 18 months later, which was August 1974, almost 2 years after he was reelected. There have been many parallels drawn between Watergate and Russiagate, with Trump and players mirroring Nixon et al.

So, as things have been progressing, maybe Trump will be resigning this August?

by Anonymousreply 534June 1, 2018 5:38 PM

I don't see that happening R534. I see him burning the whole thing down, encouraging riots in the street. He is that person.

by Anonymousreply 535June 1, 2018 6:04 PM

Exactly, R535. Besides, Daddy Putin won't allow him to resign.

by Anonymousreply 536June 1, 2018 6:10 PM

R534, I watched that segment too and looked up H. R. Haldeman—I didn't realize he died 25 years ago. He had cancer but refused to get treatment because he was a Christian Scientist.

by Anonymousreply 537June 1, 2018 6:43 PM

The difference between Nixon and Trump, oddly, is that Nixon knew he was wrong. He knew he'd broken the law. It may seem odd, but in that sense he had a level of respect for the Law and for the traditions and institution of the Presidency, that Trump does not have. Even worse, Trump is being advised by people who want him to "fight."

Too many people within his orbit are enriching themselves at our expense. Even now, all this instability he is causing with his misguided tariff wars with our own allies, is all politically motivated. He will blame Canada for the plight of our farmers who are suffering from his own policies. This is but one example. Whether it's steel or soybeans or the rising price of gasoline, he is lashing out in all directions so that his base will be confused enough to blame anyone but him. While other nations scramble for a way to calm him, often by buying him off. His way of exacting tribute.

It's Trump against the world. He is a very dangerous man, unstable, and he's in a very dangerous place. The GOP Congress is too venal and too stupid to see what a grave risk he is to national security. I sincerely wish there were people with credibility who could advise the Congressional leadership of what is at risk.

Trump is very busily dismantling our intelligence gathering capability even as he is discrediting it. He's a destructive presence and his is not a passive influence. He's surrounded by crackpots and conspiracy theorists and extremists running various cabinet level departments. I hope the Trump Presidency comes crashing down around him soon. The sooner the better.

by Anonymousreply 538June 1, 2018 7:07 PM

Mueller is sitting on over seventy subpoenas. He must have some strategy, and the stench is strong with the borscht-belt mob connections throughout that whole family. Cohen may get a pardon, but he has to be convicted for this to happen.

Leave it to Trump to abuse Presidential pardon power. Is there is a limit to how many this clown can issue? He's making a mockery of the justice system. It's tyranny and what is being done? Congress would be screaming at a Dem doing anything resembling this dismantling of lawfully obtained convictions based on petty payback.

by Anonymousreply 539June 1, 2018 7:09 PM
H. R. Haldeman - He had cancer but refused to get treatment because he was a Christian Scientist.

Good!

by Anonymousreply 540June 1, 2018 7:13 PM

r539....thats not true....Trump can grant him a pardon for any existing and future crimes he commits....see Fords pardon of Nixon. He doesnt even have to be charged with anything.

by Anonymousreply 541June 1, 2018 7:20 PM

The North Korean "summit" is nothing but a photo op. He is so desperate for it to happen he will give away the store and turn a blind eye to Kim. He wants his photo op. But be forewarned. Very few people in the public knew what Watergate was abut and at first very few news media outlets covered it at all. It took a while before there were hearings on TV and peolpe started to grasp what was going on. Nixon went to China. It was historic. He opened up our relationship with China. During Watergate. Hoping to rally support and distract from the proceedings. He traveled to Russia, had an especially warn rapport with Brezhnev As I recall all of that (old fart that I am) it gives me some small measure of comfort. This Mueller investigation is going faster. Good. But we have no leadership in Congress and our standards of conduct have been lowered. So there are similarities ad major differences between Nixon/Watergate and Trump/ Russia. This one is even more serious because he has opened the floodgates to our foreign adversaries and he has compromised our national security.

by Anonymousreply 542June 1, 2018 7:23 PM

R541 Are you on drug? No one can pardon someone of FUTURE CRIMES. Future prosecution of crimes committed before the pardon sounds more reasonable. But anyway, getting a pardon is a very public admission of guilt. It does not erase the crime or make the crime legal in any way.

by Anonymousreply 543June 1, 2018 7:36 PM

Where is my Friday breaking news whereRachel has to trash her scripted show for the breaking news!! 70 subpoena?? Start handing those out. As Roy Scheider said so well in Jaws we're gonna need a bigger jail cell

R545 He's misusing and abusing the pardon power. Again it's an admission of guilt and the public will vote him out.

by Anonymousreply 546June 1, 2018 7:46 PM
The difference between Nixon and Trump, oddly, is that Nixon knew he was wrong.

Yes—unlike Trump, he had a bottom, a conscience, a capacity to feel guilt and shame.

by Anonymousreply 547June 1, 2018 8:00 PM

Nixon did not have the Koch Bros, Mercers, Sheldon Adelson, etc., with a bought Congress; compared to what Trump has enabling him today.

by Anonymousreply 548June 1, 2018 8:19 PM

No, R545, nothing in that article suggests that a President can pardon someone for crimes that have yet to be committed. He may pardon someone prior to prosecution, of course, but that has been known for a long time.

Furthermore, unless I'm forgetting something, Ford's pardon of Nixon was never challenged in court. It's now assumed to have been valid, but no court held that it was.

by Anonymousreply 549June 1, 2018 8:34 PM

R545 I think you're misinterpreting that article. As has been pointed out before, A President can pardon someone prior to them even being prosecuted for a crime... but not a blanket pardon for crimes to be committed in the future.

by Anonymousreply 550June 1, 2018 8:39 PM

R550 A safe bet President Doofus also misinterprets the power of pardon. And he has amoral enablers who will push him to abuse the power.

by Anonymousreply 551June 1, 2018 9:04 PM

Trump doesn't give a fuck about the technicalities of pardons. it's all about the optics and the message his actions send to anyone being scared of being charged by Mueller. When the shit hits the fan he will rather save himself and abandon the rest and that includes his own family (in his mind he will just start a new one).

by Anonymousreply 552June 1, 2018 9:14 PM

I actually do think the deplorable state will turn on Trump - when they realize good paying jobs are not coming to their town, they have no health insurance, their Fox News is turned off, and they are begging in the streets. He doesn't give a shit about the poor and any economist will tell you that we have a recession coming right around the corner.

Plus the WH is woefully unprepared for any attack or natural disaster

To be fair, this was true for every president since Theodore Roosevelt.

by Anonymousreply 554June 1, 2018 11:41 PM

r542, there was also no Trump state TV AKA Fox News back in Nixon's time either.

Deplorables just watch Fox news and read Breitbart and can just convince themselves this is all part of a "deep state conspiracy."

That's another big difference between Watergate and now.

by Anonymousreply 555June 1, 2018 11:43 PM

I have a digital subscription to the Washington Post and read the article about Dump saying the letter he got from Kimmy was great w/o having even read it yet.

Someone commented the following:

BREAKING:

The letter from Kim to Trump has been intercepted. Here is a transcript:

"Dear Dotard,

All plans are made.

You come to Singapore.

We say I have no nukes.

America give Kim money.

You get "Hotel Dotard"

We split Nobel Prize. Ha ha.

All the Best,

Your Little Rocket Man"

I enjoy the WaPo comments so much more than the articles since they provide a flavor of what folks around the country are thinking. Similar to all these 'Treason' threads although they do provide some very useful information and are easy to keep up with.

JUST DAYS BEFORE the 2016 presidential election, hackers identified by the National Security Agency as working for Russia attempted to breach American voting systems. Among their specific targets were the computers of state voting officials, which they had hoped to compromise with malware-laden emails, according to an intelligence report published previously by The Intercept.

Now we know what those emails looked like.

The Deplorables will never turn on him as long as Trump continues his practice of accusing others for his shortcomings and wrong doing. He will make sure that he points the finger at all kinds of crazy excuses and they will buy whatever he sells them. They will lose their jobs, their homes, their pensions benefits and they will have no healthcare and it will all be someone else's fault because Trump is innocent! That's how those fuckers think.

by Anonymousreply 559June 2, 2018 12:53 AM

Yeah, I don't agree R553. The Deplorables have already shown how stupid they are. They'll never turn on their Dear Leader. They'll just blame Hillary.

How does he get away with tweeting about the jobs report before it is released? Isn’t that insider information that could be traded on?

by Anonymousreply 562June 2, 2018 2:38 AM
How does he get away with tweeting about the jobs report before it is released? Isn’t that insider information that could be traded on?

What he did is illegal. Many former Treasury and Labor officials -- both Dems and Repubs -- weighed in today and said that what he did was a clear violation of the law.

Had Obama or Clinton done this there would have been hearings starting Monday morning. But, it's Trump, so nothing will happen.

His ignored criminal violations have a very corrosive effect on the rule of law.

by Anonymousreply 563June 2, 2018 2:44 AM

Well, when the Dems take Congress back, one of the things that has to happen is a remedy for these fuckers who are supposed to enforce the Law and fail to do so. Congress has a responsibility. So there needs to be some written requirement for them to act. Something specific with a time line. And there must be a penalty for failing to act. Criminal negligence or some other shit, but there should be a swift and immediate penalty. Some of this stuff is vague, or based on custom and tradition. No more.

by Anonymousreply 564June 2, 2018 3:14 AM

Trump is a goddamn nightmare. His abuses of power and destruction of American democracy is literally the stuff of nightmares five years ago. Unimaginable.

He has to be removed ASAP, and laws have to be put in place to help prevent another Trump.

To start: Require five years of tax returns released, total business divestiture, a physical and mental-health evaluation at Walter Reed before the election. Spell it out.

Because another Trump is plotting his rise right now, and he'll be ten times worse.

by Anonymousreply 565June 2, 2018 4:33 AM

One thing about the current economy doing well that irks me is that it's in part because Republican owned corporations laden with cash were holding on to it just waiting to invest when a new Republican administration came in so that the rubes would think Republicans saved the economy. Now, with a new republican administration in place, Trump, can take credit, even though Obama and Republican's newly released cash are responsible. They like to say it's the tax cuts that spurred investment but it's also the billions corporations withheld that is now being spent that should get the credit. Smoke and mirrors, to dupe a gullible populace.

This was known when Romney was running for president. The rebound under Romney would have been faster than it was under Obama because Republicans would have unleashed their cash after Romney won (if he had won), made investments, created more jobs, just to take credit for the rebound. It's miraculous Obama achieved what he did without their help. The stimulus for example, really helped create jobs and boost the economy in spite of Republicans trashing it and hampering it however they could. I work for an airport, we got stimulus money and it greatly benefited our local economy by creating jobs and improving the airport. Even my asshole right-wing boss appreciated the cash infusion. Never underestimate the evil of Republicans. They will do anything to avoid paying taxes, enrich themselves, and destroy the progressive agenda.

by Anonymousreply 566June 2, 2018 4:43 AM

I end up saying it all the time...I really wouldn't care if every single Repug dropped dead tomorrow.

by Anonymousreply 567June 2, 2018 4:51 AM

The most terrible idea is to base one's opinion around the Deplorables and how to make them see how wrong they are or butter them up / distract them so they won't revolt.

IMO the Deplorables have to be completely iced out (media wise) and prevented from others joining that group. The Democratic Party needs to stand up and say, without sugar coating it, what needs to be done in order to get the USA back on track. The members of the Democratic Party need to lay out the plan they want to execute as soon they are elected. No "build a wall / lock her up!" populist bullshit (voters should punish that by not giving anyone their votes who try to pull that manipulative BS). Social media should be buzzing with all kinds of legit flow charts and plans which will benefit US citizens (investing in infrastructure, education, enviroment, etc.). Treat the citizens like adults and appeal to their common sense instead of their lower insticts of fear, envy, jealousy, anger, frustration, etc. Point out that Trump and his associates got into power because they created a negative and hostile enviroment that doesn't help anyone but Trump and his associates.

R575 exactly. To expect anything else of them after they've shown they're incapable of reason is pointless.

by Anonymousreply 576June 2, 2018 5:56 AM

A person pardoned is not released from giving truthful testimony about others.

by Anonymousreply 577June 2, 2018 6:19 AM

In actuality, R577, they are more free to give truthful testimony because they will no longer have their fifth amendment rights to fall back on when they don't want to testify about something. They'll try it, the judge will tell them they have already been pardoned and therefore cannot incriminate themselves in this proceeding, so they need to answer the question. If they refuse, they will be found in contempt and can then be charged with obstruction of justice.

Someone needs to call into some Fox News program and shove that little nugget into Trump's tiny brain.

There are some really good legal blogs that discuss pardons and obstruction, etc and they're worth reading. I'm not linking. Just Google them and you'll get lists. As far as experts go, Barbara McQuade and Lawrence Tribe are the top of the heap. Ackerman Vance and our own dear Jill Winebanks are excellent analysts, and Ari Melber and Jeffrey Toobin are among the best on the air.

But my understanding is anyone who gets a Pardon forfeits their right to taking the 5th for self-incrimination. They have to to answer questions, cannot protect anyone or withhold evidence. I hope someone has told Trump that PResidential PArdons don't cover state crimes and he will still be prosecuted at the state level.

I think the fact that Donnie Jr. Ivanka and Jared, and Tiffany are all at Camp David with Trump could be about Melania. Maybe she really did leave him, and they are deciding how to handle her absence. She really was in the hospital for a surgical procedure. Maybe the possibility of a serious illness finally made her realize he cares for nothing and no one but himself.

Or, possibility number 2: and I believe this to be the more plausible explanation. They're having a legal and PR strategy session to deal with Mueller. Charges may be coming for Donnie, Jared and Ivanka. This is not simply a fun visit to Camp David with Dad.

It does not matter what circumstances they face, they will always invent a story with an evil other to blame. R592 Abusing pardons will get Trump himself in trouble eventually. Of course, he himself won't think twice about abusing power, but he still have a sane adviser or two at his side. Of course when things start going south, we may witness a death spiral of desperate acts before this presidency is over.
