I just pet a little dog on the street and called him gumdrop.
The owner's eyes widened, and they said its name is Gumbo.

I went to a free seminar run by a "medical intuitive", who had us partnered to do a psychic exercise by focusing on the other person. My partner didn't get anything on me, so she said, and when I tried focusing on her I told her I got some branching metal sculpture doo-hickey, where the metal branches were like fern fronts. She got very excited and said she was working on a metal sculpture toy for her animal (I didn't get it either), and she was awestruck.
Another time my friend who was into psychics asked me to accompany her to her "psychic" friend's house. A shaman from the New Mexico/AZ showed up. We were to be in a circle, standing, eyes closed, and the shaman did some incantation and did some movement with his hand to each of our foreheads. He didn't actually touch me, flesh did not meet flesh, but a Qi-like blast of air did shove against my forehead. The shaman knew I felt it, he announced that someone had some reception gift, and the woman hosting the event cried that it must have been my friend. She didn't know it was me at all.

But I can't predict events or get "psychic dreams." I get sensory impressions about people within my proximity.

I get some visions, OP. Similar to yours, a friend got a cat, and I said name it Vivian. He had named it Velvet. I know that's not exactly the same, but it's pretty darn close. I had a vision that a friend of mine in another city was pregnant, and I knew what she was going to call the baby. I texted her and said I had a vision that you were pregnant and were going to call the baby Moses, and she said she WAS, indeed, pregnant, and they were thinking of naming the baby Mosely. Again, not exact, but close enough for me to think I have some abilities. I also had a vision of swans drowning in a pond, only to meet someone that afternoon who told me she had swans in her yard, and one died that morning from a snake bite. So...I would say I do have some psychic ability, but I don't know what it means, and I can't control it; the visions come when they come.

OP, I was just thinking about Bootsie Gumdrops, you truly are psychic!
by Anonymous | reply 11 | May 22, 2018 3:10 AM |
I ran into a dog and called him Frank. That’s not his name but what are the chances we both ran into dogs, OP???
by Anonymous | reply 12 | May 22, 2018 3:47 AM |
So, you're like 43% psychic?
by Anonymous | reply 14 | May 22, 2018 4:18 AM |
OP here.
I kind of posted this because it was silly, but those little connections do happen to me somewhat regularly. And little dreams that come true. There always very mundane situations...like deja vu, but I do know absolutely that I've dreamed them (asleep, or day dreaming) before.
Or, I was helping a writer a few weeks ago edit their work, and I was talking about a character who's a 1960s model in her novel (who really had been a figure in her life), and I said, "So this real life model....let's say 'Emmy Saunders' or whoever she was..." and the writer said "It was KELLY Saunders."
I should have been taken away by the government as a child and trained in some space-age lab by like, FIFTY SCIENTISTS or something ! ! ! As it is, I just have these little connections that pop into my head without thinking. That are useless.

OP, I think you'd like Daryl Gregory's novel [italic]Spoonbenders[/italic]. It has a character you might identify with.

r6 / r7 here. Some memories popped up of me "riding someone else's wavelength" and coming up with words they're going to say, not the words commonly used like "the" or "and" or pronouns, but words like "sacrosanct" and "cobalt", apropos of nothing else other than "come up with a word at random".
One time my friend and I were writing exams in our gymnasium at high school, we were spread out to reduce the risk of cheating, we couldn't see each other. We ended up writing about the same historical personage, not the top giant people one'd think about, like Gandhi or Churchill or Sir John A. Macdonald or Alexander the Great or Einstein. Our history teacher had a little talk with one of us afterward, concerned one of us saw the exam ahead of time, but that's just bonkers -- we weren't dumb enough to agree to write about the same lesser tier historic person, we were just well-read enough to have enough data on that person, or, one of us was riding the other's wavelength.

No, but I’m very perceptive. It’s easy if you pay attention. I’m more of an empath.

R16 -- R10 here. I have never heard of those. I've wondered if I should try to understand or strengthen my psychic abilities, but, then I think what for? They are so random as to be somewhat useless, and I'm not sure what I would do with them if I could call on them at will.

[quote]R17 OP, I think you'd like Daryl Gregory's novel Spoonbenders. - It has a character you might identify with.
Thanks....I clicked over to amazon and looked at synopsis...it looks good! I will order it from the library : )
The way I think of it is, I don't believe in magic or gods or fate or anything like that, but I do think there's things going on naturally that we don't know or understand. Life is multi-dimentional, and we don't see or hear everything, outright. Everyone's brain is tweaked a little differently, and there are some little "cross connections" or what-have-you that happen here and there that aren't necessarily coincidence. The dreary thing is with me it's never as exciting as "Move away from that windows NOW because a possum's going to come flying through it!" It's more like, "I've seen this new friend take yellow gingham napkins out of that drawer before, and place it under these blue flowered cups."
The only time it was dramatic was once when I woke up gasping out of a nightmare about my brother (who I never talk to). It was a deeply frightening dream where my brother was in my apartment and there was this DREAD to it. There was a skull and cross bones rolling up on a computer screen at the end of it, which somehow in the dream seemed just [italic] to-the-core [/italic] scary. It was something like 2:30 am. I left my sister a phone message about it the next day, and she called back to say our brother had been arrested in the early hours for getting blind drunk and almost violently killing a neighbor's dog. He was put behind bars for a while. It had happened on the way home from a bar, and the bars close at 2:00 am.
But I think that's the only time it's ever been "eventful". The rest of the time it's almost ridiculously....banal details.

[quote]R20 I've wondered if I should try to understand or strengthen my psychic abilities, but, then I think what for?
OP here.
I think the same thing. I imagine it's kind of like training in classic ballet....if you haven't started training those muscles by like, age 8 or 9, forget it. If it was going to become something extraordinary, it would take extraordinary dedication and experience with trying and strengthening various techniques.
It's just a little sliver of a gift that's beyond control or productivity. Maybe something could be done with it systematically if there had been intensive coaching (by who??) But also, as you say, why bother?
But what do I know?

[quote]I get sensory impressions about people within my proximity.
This reminds me of something that happened to me recently.
A couple of weeks ago I went to my friends' empty house (they were out of the country) to water their garden and possibly stay over. This is something I’ve done many times over the years which is why I have my own set of keys to the house. As I was putting my key in the lock I had a distinct sensation of another person's presence, as if I was intruding on someone. It was a slightly unpleasant feeling, like I was doing something wrong. I entered the house and found no one inside. I took care of the garden and was sitting in the kitchen when I heard the keys in the back door, the one I used to enter the house. It was my friend’s husband back from the trip a couple of days early.
The second story has to do with my own place. My downstairs neighbor has been gone for a couple of months. Since we have no contact I didn’t know when she was coming back. I felt quite relaxed in the pure silence of my apartment, not anticipating her return for the longest time. Then last week a clear thought came to me that she’d be back very soon. She was back on Sat.

I get what I call thought bubbles when I know friends/family are thinking or talking about me. I feel it, I'm convinced.
I bought a deck of tarot cards and a book for study and I did a few readings, mostly for my own entertainment. I really liked it but I got lazy. I should get back to it. There is a muscle memory aspect to it. I agree with the above poster who mentioned starting young and keeping at it. I think that's key but you *can* tap in when you're older (+empathic) if you're serious and studious.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | May 22, 2018 6:32 AM |
OP -- R10 and R20 here. I tried to kill myself a few years ago, and the visions started after that. I didn't get any before then, or at least not often enough to notice. I wonder if that is a coincidence, or if it somehow triggered my ability to see things? I suspect I would try to train it more if I could, say, game the stock market or something, but my visions have more to do with people and not larger concepts like corporations. I also had a weird vision a few times about a fuck bud of mine. He's married, has two kids. I've had visions that he is at his daughter's wedding, sitting along the side of the hall. (I've also seen the daughter's husband's name and the state they get married in.) No one talks to my fuck bud, who is also a friend. I don't know if they are ignoring him because they have discovered he is bi, or because he's dead. It's unsettling.

I'm sorry you were sad enough to want to leave life, R25. Best wishes for the time you're here with us [bold] : ) [/bold] I've dealt with depression of my own, and come to the conclusion that death will come on its own at some point, and until that takes care of itself, this is all just a sometimes rough hewn adventure. (Or endurance test, depending on events!)
by Anonymous | reply 26 | May 23, 2018 7:49 AM |
R25 here. Thanks, R26. I wasn't sad, I just felt that I had reached a point of diminishing returns, so why wait around for them to get even more diminished. I'm ok now. I got over it -- I also had a late-life career switch that proved to be more difficult than I expected -- but I got past it. Thank you for the kind words, though. I'm a very devout atheist, and am somewhat ambivalent about death. I don't worry about heaven or hell, I think we simply cease being, so death doesn't frighten me at all. As long as someone takes care of my pets and hides my porn collection before my parents clean out my place, I'm ok! But trying to kill myself did trigger the psychic episodes, I think. I wonder if others have had the same experience.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | May 23, 2018 2:29 PM |
I have that also but a bit better than OP, who is just trying to make connection where there arent any.
I dream of people I haven't seen in ages, and then Poof I either see or hear from them. I always say, I knew we would see each other and they are like - Really, hun cuz I thought you were dead, or something.

Yesterday I heard the weather report that there was a 5% chance of rain. Ordinarily, I would figure that it wasn't worth taking an umbrella with those odds, but somehow yesterday I had this feeling that I should take one! Well, later that day, when I was on my lunch hour and walking to my usual place, the skies just opened up! If I hadn't been carrying my umbrella, I would have been soaked! Eerie, huh?
by Anonymous | reply 30 | May 24, 2018 6:55 AM |
I get psychic dreams but they are completely random and sometimes really stupid shit. I have a few people I'm really connected to I can just tell when something s going on in their lives even if we don't talk.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | May 24, 2018 7:05 AM |
Also sometimes I just REALLY dislike someone and it always turns out I'm right. It will be immediate so I have nothing to judge them on and they're often people everybody else likes (until the truth comes out)

When I was in my late teens early 20's I would have dreams of the future usually things that would happen in the next 6 months. I don't have those anymore but now if I focus on a personnel near me I know what they are thinking and going to do in the next several minutes.
