Pub to fine customers who mention the royal wedding on Saturday
The Alexandra Hotel in Derby has banned mention of Harry and Meghan's nuptials on Saturday and will fine those who talk about it.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | May 19, 2018 1:42 PM |
Should we have a ban on Sparkle talk from tomorrow on?
by Anonymous | reply 2 | May 19, 2018 1:56 PM |
In America we have a constitutional right to free speech. Too bad for you Brits.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | May 19, 2018 2:00 PM |
Nah R2. The fun has just begun.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | May 19, 2018 2:01 PM |
Will mainstream news ignore the elephant in the room, re Bishop Morgan Freeman's horrendous speech?
Will it be racist to speak ill of the speech?
by Anonymous | reply 5 | May 19, 2018 2:02 PM |
R5, yes it will be ignored. It’s racist to say anything negative about it.

Good point R7. Smart planning to keep the Muslims away.

Just now seeing Oprah walking in that outfit. She normally looks surprisingly good, considering her weght, but today she looks like hell. Can't imagine what she was thinking wearing this light-colored knit.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | May 19, 2018 2:09 PM |
I agree, i didn't think oprah looked good at all. this is what happens when you only have yes people around you.

What channel u on R10 ?
by Anonymous | reply 12 | May 19, 2018 2:12 PM |
I"m sorry, but she didn't look good at all. she could have looked sooooo much better, poor choice. that veil is ridiculous.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | May 19, 2018 2:12 PM |
I was surprised by how touching I found it - much nicer than the snoozefest of William & Kate. Loved the choir singing "Stand by Me". Meghan looked beautiful but I think she would have suited a short-sleeved dress more. Her mum looked lovely too.

by Anonymous | reply 16 | May 19, 2018 2:15 PM |
I couldn't watch the wedding, but my mother told me Harry spent the whole time in a state of clear anxiety. According to her, it was as if he was expecting to meet the Grim Reaper at any moment! (lol)
Face it, Harry! Your bachelor days are over: soon you'll have three children and will grow bald like your brother! (lol)

The flowers in Meghan's bouquets were hand picked by Harry from Princess Diana's garden.

The groom’s hair is a bit of a mess as well.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | May 19, 2018 2:20 PM |
Harry turned beet red very early on in the service. I didn't know if it was the clothes, the stress, the emotions about his mother, or what. But he looked distinctly uncomfortable.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | May 19, 2018 2:21 PM |
R18, wow, her dress looks even worse in the pic you posted. so ugly! she must be blind or too many yes people in her life or simply bad taste.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | May 19, 2018 2:22 PM |
Harry was getting cold feet but there was nothing he could do...remember he told the crowds, " can't wait! " yesterday ?? lol...

Why all the celebrities at the wedding, Oprah, Elton, Clooney's? Are they close friends or just for show?
by Anonymous | reply 29 | May 19, 2018 2:27 PM |
R29, just for show of course! she's a famewhore! or maybe harry's contacts, who knows? Harry does UN work, and knows amal thru that? whatever. she looked like shit anyways in that mustard dress. she must know she looks ridiculous but wants the attention. some people do this deliberately.

I agree, Harry will be cheating soon, but Megan will be trying to get pregnant asap and probably won't be cheating...

R42, any photos of what she would have worn?
by Anonymous | reply 106 | May 19, 2018 3:08 PM |
Few thoughts:
Guests: Amal Clooney looked wonderful. I loved the outfit but her hair was a little all over the place. Oprah looked a little stuffed. Posh Spice's outfit was a miss, and David looked decent. Tom Hardy could fuck me in the pew, he looked damn hot. Zara is consistently wonderful looking at these events, she was rocking the pregnancy look.
Location: Windsor is gorgeous in the sun, but doesn't work as well on TV when compared to Westminister Abbey/Buckingham Palace. Everyone wants a balcony kiss with the bride showing her nervous wow face at the crowd size. Kissing on the steps is so common.
Meghan: Her dress was very nice and age appropriate (she is an old bride), but it was as forgetful as the rest of the wedding. The tiara was nice, the hair was an issue and I wish she wouldn't have shown her freckles (a personal thing).
Harry: They did him wrong zooming in on his bald spot when he arrived. The media did the same think to William at his wedding. I love black British uniforms, but hated the frill or whatever the fuck he had on the front.
Catherine: probably still side-eyeing Meghan for the Pippa wedding crap. I have always said that Kate seems like a Grade-A CUNT. I could tell from her fake wedding smile. You can tell that if given the option, or a well time pregnancy bedrest order, she would have gladly skipped this wedding. She didn't smile.
Sermon: he should not have droned on for 13 minutes getting loud and such in front of her Majesty. Whoever invited him should spend the rest of the evening in The Tower.
Overall: I really like Meghan and Harry but this wedding was a bit of a let down. She had to speed to the church to arrive on-time, though she was right on time. Her dress was boring, but who can top Kate's? Harry's uniform was ugly. There were no real brides maids and the children were way underutilized, but the twin boys were cute additions. No balcony kiss, due to the location. The carriage didn't look royal and the preacher was a disaster. NO ONE IN THAT CHURCH LOOKED HAPPY OR IMPRESSED :( The chellist, weather, and shots of the castle were the highlight.

R89 I've been querying that for the last 3 threads. I thought it was because Megs is American that they skipped the wedding curtsy, even though I've seen photos of her curtsying to the Queen. Haven't found any explanation as to why in this instance they skipped the after-ceremony curtsy to the Queen.
by Anonymous | reply 110 | May 19, 2018 3:10 PM |

OK, wedding coverage still on at CNN. Lots of bad commentary. Of course, the American self-proclaimed royal historian on and on about how wonderful the sermon was. One interesting comment was how the Queen knew Billy Graham so she wasn't a stranger to American preaching. The claim was that he had preached for her, which was news to me. I wonder when.

by Anonymous | reply 129 | May 19, 2018 3:17 PM |
The QUEEN wanted it to be sunny and bright at the wedding, and LO, it was so. If she'd wanted to, the preacher would have been struck dumb and deaf and turned into a pile of dust before our eyes. She didn't, and she's THE QUEEN, so she's sat through much longer and more boring shit than that sermon, which was hilarious and memorable in retrospect.

I don't like Meghan at all but I don't get the hang up about the white dress. It's 2018. Half of marriages end in divorce. That means a lot of second time brides. And a lot of them wear white. It's a wedding thing, not a purity or virginal thing anymore and hasn't really been that in quite a while.

by Anonymous | reply 186 | May 19, 2018 3:39 PM |
So some contrarian views... it was a disjointed service that felt flat somehow. You could tell Harry forced the skilled, experienced hands to pull back while he and the future Duchess of Success came up with successive great ideas to make it the best royal wedding - erm, our special day - ever.
Her dress was... a plain white dress. Politically astute but as a fashion, unmemorable.
She looked pretty. Shame about her hair but it wasn't a disaster. Excellent call on the tiara. Largely unknown, pretty, but not presumptuous.
The American pastor was showboating but probably sincere. Meagain was slightly nervous as he droned on... she kept glancing at Harry for a sign he wasn't calling Mischon de Reya from the carriage.
It was odd the Spencers should be seated in the nave while Oprah Winfrey and her like got prime real estate in the quire. How close was the bride to any of these celebrities? How the hell did Oprah get inserted into all this, to this extent?
Kitty Spencer wins the prize for best looking woman in the best dress at the wedding.
Oprah Winfrey wins the prize for money can't buy taste. She looked like she was destined for the Macy's parade.
Anal Clooney needs to learn when the spotlight is for her and when she's lucky to be near a particular spotlight. Her dress was interesting, but slightly ill fitting, her make up brash, her hair saggy.
A real standout was Doria Ragland, a dignified, sometimes poignant figure. She seems very, very likeable. I like she didn't lose the nose thing just because. Lovely outfit.
Princess Charlotte will rule the roost as the years go by. That one has it all figured out.
Prince George states his boundaries.
Prince Philip can still bust a move.
It will be interesting to see what happens next. I think she will have a very difficult time adapting to real life in the Royal Family. She wants to save the world, possibly for her own self satisfaction, and that's not how it's done with that lot.

Meghan's gown was ok but nothing spectacular. It didn't "wow" me. It just lacked that extra final touch. It needed some small detail to take away all of that white material. A little beading or lace would have added some pizzazz. Simplicity is nice but it can be boring. Her veil was too long and her bouquet was too smaill. The best feature was her tiara.

R253, too many people have tried to rewrite history on Diana's horrible dress. It looked suitable for a Beverly Hillbilly. One of the ugliest dresses I've ever seen. Considering her lack of education and being thrown into the lion's den, it was the best we could expect, I guess. Kate's dress reflected her, as did Meghan's. Meghan has good taste, generally, although she has to give up those coast that are too long for her. Beautiful tiara and diamond bracelet. It wouldn't have taken much to look overdressed with a fancy dress. She did it just right.

The groom uniforms - Charles, William and Harry.

She wore a plain wedding dress without jewelry because she’s been married before and because she’s not royal or aristocratic. She’s saying, “This is me. This is what you get. No diamond necklaces or bracelets or ornate lace design. Just me.”

she would have looked better if she stuffed her bra a little. the dress is plain and the top area looks like it is missing something...and didn't look like it fit well.

R298 - Clooney and his wife are humanitarians and give to charities. Amal is a human rights lawyer. Oprah interviewed Meghan's mother Doria so I think Mom invited her. Plus, Meghan is a big fan of Oprah. Why would Meghan have to go back to Suits? By marrying into the Royal Family, she just landed the greatest role of her career.
by Anonymous | reply 302 | May 19, 2018 4:55 PM |
The wedding was meant to feature people involved in charities. Clooney and his wife head up several global charities (including Darfur, so maybe our orphan was working the crowd for donations).

For all that talk about Charles walking her part way down the aisle, I thought it was a big dud. And her walking herself part way? Another dud.
And why are Anglican churches designed so that most people invited are in another room and didn't see what was happening but had to watch it on video screens?

by Anonymous | reply 313 | May 19, 2018 5:01 PM |
So someone said that Tur and Ruhle were fun to watch so I switched to MSNBC and Joy Reid and party were STILL talking about RACE. God, she's tone-deaf as fuck. Switched back to Muir and Robin. Much more fun, informative, and they hit on the melancholy of Diana not being there but not over the top maudlin. It was meant to be a joyful event after all. The dress was okay but the veil and tiara could have been a bit more spectacular in contrast. The train was too long and awkward but the little fellows did a good job of keeping that hot mess in check. Showtime is being cheeky and airing a Tudors marathon. Rhys-Myers was such a beauty just a few years ago. Sad.

Royal men should not wear a military hat to the wedding--and then take it off during the wedding. Hats ruin men's hair. If you're going to wear that stupid military uniform even though you're no longer in the military, then leave the hair-busting hat back at the palace.

I have very fine, straight hair and could never wear it up or in pigtails. Not even a headband. My hair works its way out of everything, including hats/baseball caps. It’s like my hair is too slick to be contained. I can’t really explain it. But I’ve worn my hair short most of my life to deal with it.
If you put my hair back and in a rubber band or clasp or anything, you’d find that band/clasp slid down four inches in an hour.

Watching the wedding now. I’m out west. Is is being dubbed in Spanish on Telemundo. I don’t get these English churches that cut the nave in half and in turn, the congregation. I know old Catholic Churches did the same, but that was mostly old gothic churches. St. George is in gothic style, but is it really that old? Is it a class thing? Any information on this from our British brothers is appreciated.

Her hairdo aside, which always misses the mark, she actually looked pulled together for this. Which surprised me. I was expecting some weirdness to her outfit, and the only thing "out of place" I could pick on was the veil could have been as long as the train , and not so long. The real mess was that god damn preacher who would just not shut the fuck up! Granted he knew this was his time to shine on the world stage, but I could see The Queen, getting pissed, making mental notes, that this is going to be the last time Megs will be inserting her stamp if you will on public events. Im sure she is going to be kept under thumb going forward. Shes going to make mistakes too, and thats ok. Good job on the social climb...be careful, it might be a long hard fall out of that gilded cage you flew into.

I could have Jesus Christ put my hair up and bless it, cover it with Jesus hair spray and it would not stay up for one hour, let alone a couple of hours. And I would tell this to hair stylists who would say, “Nonsense! People just haven’t been doing it right!” Then they would do it and watch it fall out before I left the shop. “OMG, your hair is HAUNTED!”
Back in the days when perms were popular (think “Fatal Attraction”) I would get a perm and not wash my hair for 5 days and my hair would be half straight after I washed it and fully straight 3 weeks later. Stylists would accuse me of washing my hair too soon. Thank goodness that fad didn’t last.

I imagine Catherine sees Meghan as quite uppity and an irritating distraction. Meghan plugged away as an actress with no success until she was nearly off the shelf at 30 and was very ambitious and focused on stuff outside of her relationships. Catherine probably hates that Meghan is outgoing and loves a crowd and is eager to perform the meet and greet charity bullshit work that she and William doesn’t really want to do much. Meghan can be a bit freer than Kate, but she’s also junior to Kate and I am sure Kate will want to keep her in line.

Please, most of Prince Harry's military saga is RF PR and fable to hero him up after his deplorable Nazi and Vegas nudie antics.
Things I liked about the wedding: The bride's dress/veil/tiara was much better than I could have expected given her awful style during the engagement. She never wore anything that looked right on her or fit, or was really appropriate. So I was expecting too much or too little (too tight, too coyly sexy while trying not to seem like she was trying to be sexy, etc.) and I thought it looked really good and the veil / tiara also looked good. Her mom looked great. The royal family looked better than I've seen them at most previous weddings, and I loved the black on the page boys and the simplicity of the bridesmaids dresses and shoes. The only absurdity was the ever super-thirsty Jessica Mulroney trying to have a Pippa moment in a fishtail dress highlighting her bum. She's like a damn real housewife. Also liked most of the hats.
I don't think this is going to last. It's been a freak show during the entire run-up, including most of Meghan's appearances. I think Harry was trying to save face, and saving face causes more disasters than anything else, yet people still try to do it. I think the dude is gay.

R390 - Meghan is FREE-er? Meghan is one of the most tightly controlled and controlling people ever to wed a royal. As for focusing on her career, she spent the better part of her Suits job PRIORITIZING relationships. She was trading in and trading up and trying to upgrade the entire time. Suits gave her a platform to land a rich status man. She succeeded beyond probably her wildest ambitions but prior to Harry she was targeting and failing to land any number of status men, from sports figures to business men. She was smart enough to know she wasn't much of an actress, and she used Suits the smart way - as a platform to get her access and make connections.
She did well for herself. Besides marrying Harry, she merched and papped her ass off during the engagement, probably making more $$ than she made in her entire acting career, and set herself up for the next act whenever it arrives.

I didn’t love or hate the dress. I did, however, dislike the veil. I believe the dress would have been perfect with short sleeves, fitted bodice, with a grand, flouncy, long skirt. The dress was much to big on her. She probably lost a few more pounds than expected in the last two weeks leading up to the big day.
And of course Reverend Mike’s speech was just too long and silly.
Let’s wish them well. Meg has hit the ground running, and has had quite a busy calendar. The girl doesn’t mind working. Surely she’ll get some rest as soon as she becomes an expectant mother to be, but otherwise, she has already shown that she is earning her keep.

When Sophie married Prince Edward, her gown was relatively plain and I think the wedding was private, not televised. He was like 5th in line at the time, kinda where Harry is now.
Little George was more outgoing a couple years ago when he was Charlotte's age so I think this is a phase he is going through.
IIRC, both Diana and Kate walked down aisles that had a red carpet. Is that restricted to actual heirs? Because those two page boys carried Megan's veil halfway up the aisle. It drooped in the middle and I thought it was going to snag on the stone steps outside. Note how long Meghan had to pause while they adjusted it. I had just watched the documentaries of both Diana and Kate's entrance and there was NO pausing going up the steps. It was like, I'm going to be a Queen, and everything falls into place like magic.
Funniest omission, the BBC not mentioning Fergie at her entrance.

There's nothing wrong with Camilla. Her first husband cheated on her relentlessly. Diana cheated on Charles with countless men - she racked up more numbers than he did. She was friends with one of his mistresses - the crazy Kanga, and even wore Kanga's clothes when Kanga did a stint as a designer. It was just Camilla specifically she hated. Probably because Camilla was everything she wasn't - unpretentious, liked all the same activities Charles liked, loved the country.

Kate just had a damn baby - it's what fits her and is appropriate. If she bought a new outfit she'd be accused of trying to steal focus. Diana wore quite a plain looking polka dot thing when Andrew married Fergie.

It started because Diana got infatuated with her own celebrity and would do what she wanted. Leave the table before the queen left, stay in her room during family outings at Balmoral. She did the same shit lots of people do, pretend to be one thing before the marriage and turn into something else afterwards. The marriage didn't flounder because of Camilla, it floundered because Charles and Diana had nothing in common, didn't get along, resented each other, and were drama queens. Charles went to Camilla because his marriage was a shambles. It wasn't a shambles because he went to Camilla.
He certainly didn't force Diana to stalk married men after their marriage floundered. For a poor soul whose husband cheated, Diana was certainly vicious to the wives of men with whom she had affairs. Ask Will Carling's wife.

The irony of Camilla being beside Charles wasn’t lost upon me. But let’s face it, it was never going to be Diana by his side, no matter what.
I really liked Camilla’s hat. I imagine she and Charles are already pissed to the wind by this time. I hope everyone is enjoying the reception.
I DEFINITELY noticed some strong chemistry between Edris Alba and George Clooney. Hopefully Edris’ stripper girlfriend/fiancé and Amal won’t mind, if the boys find a VERY private restroom after everyone’s tossed back a few during the reception!!!!

Everyone knows Anne and her husband have had a marriage in name only since forever but it's civil. And he's said to be a very nice guy.
Of course Harry and Meghan Markle will thrive having known each other less than two years, dating on the sly across two continents while playing games in the media and passive aggressively seeking attention WHILE complaining of attention, and because she has a habit of ghosting people on her way up. She's a gem. He'll be very happy. OTOH, better her married to him than one of the genuinely nice women he dated seriously.

Let's not forget that dying was the best thing ever to happen to Diana's reputation.
Her legendary star-crossed love with Hasnat Khan: for years it was said he broke it off because he couldn't deal w/a royal spotlight and couldn't defy his family for whom Diana was the wrong ethnicity and religion. However, he gave an interview a few years ago, and while he didn't address the marriage situation, he said she ghosted him. He knew it was happening - suddenly she changed her phone number and he couldn't reach her, she stopped getting in touch - because he'd seen her do it to others. He said this is mild tones - he obviously cared for and respected her, but out of the blue, he was "x"'d out. Next thing he knew she was turning up in the tabloids w/Dodi Fayed.
Right before Diana died she was dating the cocaine-addicted son of a notorious arms-dealer, and staging mise en scenes for the paps. The paps were like white on rice around that yacht, which is when Diana did the "poor lonely me on the yacht diving board" poses. She was completely lost as to her love life and financial situation. She had enough money to live extremely comfortably but not enough money to get her ass out of Kensingtom Palace - which is like high end project housing w/no privacy - and into a suitable private home outside London.
I think Harry got a girl just like dear old mom - a little crazy, a little infatuated with her own celebrity but also a lot of hubris - thinking she's more important than the RF, manipulative and self-dealing. When both boys talked about their mom in their Diana film, I was shocked at what they said. The nicest thing Harry said was about her hugs. But mostly they happily described her as an OTT personality, cheeky, who said to them it's okay to break the rules as long as you don't get caught. I kept waiting for the other side of her to be revealed by them, but that was pretty much it. They obviously adored her and didn't scrutinize too much the impact of what they were saying about her.

Another thing I always found curious was that Diana notoriously hated Tiggy Legge-Bourke, their well-born nanny. Diana spread rumors Tiggy was having an affair with Charles, taunted Tiggy about being pregnant by Charles, and tried and failed to get Tiggy fired. This was after the divorce. At one point young William was so fed up he banned both his parents from attending a school event and invited Tiggy. Tiggy's child was in Will and Kate's wedding party, and she's famously still close to Harry. Has a farm and B&B in England. I always wonder how they reconcile their love for their mom and their love for Tiggy, considering their mom loathed Tiggy. They obviously don't agree. Do they know mom was crazy?

by Anonymous | reply 437 | May 19, 2018 7:03 PM |
I have a friend from the U.K. who agrees that Diana would have been the mother-in-law from a horror movie.
It's just the photo - Tiggy and Kate don't resemble each other.
Diana would have been horrible because she wanted to be the person her boys loved the most, and because William was her confidente. She had fired another nanny to whom William grew close - how could she have tolerated his love for Kate? OTOH, if anyone could handle it, it would be Kate. She's obviously extremely stoic and very calm, and has a supportive family of her own. She and Carole might have prevailed by killing Diana with kindness. Giving Diana an escape retreat at their home in Buckleberry, and plenty of getaways at Uncle Gary's Mediterranean villa. Hell, if Gary weren't married he and Di could have had a fling. None of the people who interacted with Diana during her life describe anything too awful, although most come through with some diva behavior and they all mention her habit of abruptly dropping people from her life. She did like to manipulate the media and undermine others .
She and Meghan would have been toxic. Two women who want to be the stars of their narrative, two women who love to play victim and pretend they need rescuing while wanting to be in control and basically dominate their relationships, two women who are frequently in cahoots with the paparazzi and sympathetic reporters, and two women who undermine others as Meghan has attempted to undermine Kate with blind items. Two women who are experts at ghosting.

Charles said that Diana was crazy as hell. Not in those words, though. He said in horrifying exasperation "SHE'S MAD!" Indicating he could not live with her. She was a master media manipulator, and she was hell bent on destroying Charles and the monarchy. Those who knew her best described her as a "schemer" even before the marriage. I do believe that there was another fey, conniving, perhaps even treacherous side to her the public just didn't know existed - well, the ones given over to hero worship, that is.

Diana's speech tapes were released against the wishes of the RF but the entity that had control of them got all sanctimonious and said they were historical, so they were released. I think it's video of her working with a speech coach? But anyway, a lot of the time she's talking about herself and she is appalling. In one 10 minutes stretch, just speaking offhand and casually, she undermined her dad, her sister, Charles, the Queen and her brother, and self-aggrandized to beat the band. I think she pushed Raine, her stepmom, down the steps. Only child that had the courage to do it, apparently. She does this self-dealing thing where the only negative thing she'll say about herself is how she was too young and stupid to know how evil others were and are. So this brave youngest child, who shouldn't have had to take it upon herself, acts out against the stepmother for the good of the entire family and the siblings who are too chicken to be honest about how they feel. Her father scolds her, but she stands up to him.
Diana's sister Jane?? famously dated Prince Charles and also famously said she wasn't in love with him and they wouldn't marry. That ended that. But as Diana pretends, the one time Jane brought Charles over to Althorp while they were dating, she was clinging to Charles' neck, apparently fearful that the innocent but irresistable charms of 15 year old Diana would lure him. So that's a two fer in five minutes for Diana - slams daddy, slams her stepmom, sets herself up as brave even though no child should be in that position, and then slams her sister as insecure and possessive, and fearful of Diana's superior attractions. It was quite a performance. Then there's the bit about not getting any help from the queen.
One of the queen's relatives in an interview went after Diana hammer and tong. This woman is older than dirt. At first says she was very beautiful, etc. but then says OMG, the WORST. The drama! And of all the men - Charles needed support and bolstering more than anyone and she ripped him apart.
Diana needed attention, admiration, support, unconditional love, resilience, etc. and she married a guy who needed a sort of 1950s helpmeet who doesn't exist in real life. What Charles actually needed was a woman like his grandma.

Diana would have hated both her daughters-in-law, but I think she would have reserved special ire for Kate, who would one day be Princess of Wales.
As for her second daughter-in-law, it wouldn't have been Meghan: Diana would have shut that relationship down really quickly. Also, a Harry with a mum wouldn't be so emotionally vulnerable.
Diana would have spent any spare time she wasn't scheming to destroy Kate going after Chelsy or Cressida.

The whole Diana/Charles thing was just an unfortunate situation that came about due to antiquated thinking (that Charles needed an aristocratic virgin as a bride.) Camilla or no Camilla Charles and Diana were never going to work. Maybe they would have stayed together in misery for appearances sake but that's it.
They were just completely ill suited to each other. That's no one's fault. They were just very different people and had nothing in common. Charles is lucky to have Camilla. They really are perfect for each other. And it would have been nice if Diana had a chance to find someone to have a lasting love but unfortunately that never had a chance to happen.

Stinky linky. More about the car...
[quote]Jaguar, having freshly committed to electrifying all of its cars from 2020 onward, has today also unveiled a new all-electric automobile, which is based on its sleek E-type from the 1960s. The new E-type Zero keeps the classic styling, which was once lauded as “the most beautiful car in the world” by Enzo Ferrari, while introducing a bespoke electric powertrain that produces up to 220kW of power. It will take you from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.5 seconds, which isn’t quite Tesla territory in terms of acceleration, but let’s be honest, no Tesla has ever looked quite this dashingly gorgeous.
[quote]The E-type Zero roadster is said to have a real-world range of 270 km (just under 170 miles) thanks to a 40kWh battery that can be fully recharged in six to seven hours. As it stands, this is simply a retrofit of an electric car into the shell of an old school classic, and Jaguar isn’t being terribly explicit about either pricing or availability. It seems to be more than a concept, but not much more than that. Tim Hannig, chief of Jaguar Land Rover Classic, says that the company’s “aim with the E-type Zero is to future-proof classic car ownership. We’re looking forward to the reaction of our clients as we investigate bringing this concept to market.”

Oh please, R473 - I'm sure you were the victim every time you ghosted somebody. This is just so typical of Meghan fans. "Haven't you ever dumped a husband without warning?" "Haven't you ever told nasty rumors about somebody you don't like - are competitive with them or think they have a smug face?" Haven't you ever had sex for money?" This is stuff EVERBODY does.
No, everybody doesn't ghost people who are inconvenient to them. That's immature. If you are mid-friendship, mid thriving relationship with somebody, you don't ghost them. You don't go from bff to ghosting, from lovers to ghosting. If you are growing apart and both of you know it, or if it's completely one sided and somebody is stalking you without any encouragement, then you cut them off, but it's never one day you're my family, the next day I don't know you. Ghosters do that. You don't know what ghosting is. If you have a disagreement with somebody with whom you are friends, you don't ghost them to pay them back, particularly if they apologize. Of if YOU did them wrong, you don't ghost them to avoid explaining yourself or dealing with what you did. THAT is ghosting. But Markle fans take every piece of toxic, dysfunctional, narcissistic behavior on her part and do the "Everybody does it" which is precisely how narcissists think.

Not only did Victoria not engage in premarital sex, but one of the requirements for her husband-to-be was virginity. STD's were so rampant among European aristocracy that it was affecting fertility. After the clusterfuck that led to Victoria becoming queen (a serious lack of legit heirs because George III made those weird marriage rules for his children), fertility was a vital requirement for the Queen and Prince Consort. There just weren't that many other legit heirs to pick up the slack, esp. given one of her only eligible cousins was blind and therefore considered unsuitable.
Albert was picked out fairly early on for Victoria, and his family watched him like a hawk to make sure he didn't stray into any random brothels. They didn't care what his older brother did, and Ernest did get an STD, which probably ruined his bride's fertility.
All that said, I've always strongly suspected that Albert was gay. He despised most women and only liked the company of men. Yeah, he knocked up Victoria nine times, but that's because when she was pregnant he was as good as king. A really complicated relationship.

The next big royal wedding is Eugenie's this fall. Harry's wedding is certainly no more important than hers - he's sixth in line, she's ninth - same ballpark. He's basically Andrew. He's not William, He's not George.
If George is like his dad and grandad, he will marry in about 25 years. If Charles is as long-lived as his parents, he may just about make it to George's wedding.
Me, I don't think the monarchy itself will exist in 25 years.

Yes, I think there's a very good chance that in 25 years Prince George will be plain old George Windsor-Mountbatten, and he and his husband can have a lovely private wedding in the Costwolds or something.

Of course Victoria was a virgin when she got married. Don't be stupid. And once she did finally get some from Albert, well she wanted it all the time. Either he knew what he was doing or she was easy to please.
Anyway, Albert was really uptight. He NEVER would have touched Victoria if there was even the slightest indication that she wasn't 100% pure. When Albert found out that his oldest son Bertie (Edward VII) lost his virginity to an actress Albert completely overreacted, went to go set his son straight, got sick and died shortly after. Victoria never forgave Bertie and always blamed him for Albert's death. Being shut out by his mother, and stuck with nothing to do as PoW for decades Bertie became a huge man-whore. Edward VII probably was the sluttiest King England ever had. Even tho he was nothing to look at.

This wedding reminds me of the Swedish weddings. The three kids of the Swedish monarch got married after 2010. Very pretty weddings, church not too big, attendance not too enormous, beautiful clothes, some contemporary music including live vocalist, broadcast on television (not worldwide, but European television covered them) secondary foreign royals like Sophie Wessex given a reason to dress up and represent. Carl Phillip married Sofia Helqvist, a former glamour model (including nudes) and reality show star. But she's gorgeous and he was with her five years before they married, proving her mettle to the public, although some royal fans types still hated her origins. Madeleine had a broken engagement (her fiance and boyfriend of eight years cheated) and fled to NYC, where she met and fell in love with a British banker. They had THEIR big anachronistic royal wedding including carriage ride, then went back to NYC. He declined a title so is not an official part of the Swedish RF. They now live in London and their young daughter is enrolled in a London school. If they don't get their butts back to Sweden to live soon, their kids will lose their royal titles, but I don't think either one cares. Crown Princess Victoria (Carl Phillip was born heir but it shifted to Victoira when the primogeniture rule changed) married her personal trainer. He was a bit more successful than that - owned a series of gyms where he trained. They were together eight years.
So all three married commoners, some quite common commoners (the bank's mom had dated Prince Charles, so he's more of a society guy and not AS common as the other two). Difference is the glamour model and the trainer were with their Swedish royal for YEARs. Everybody thoroughly knew each other from living and traveling together and sharing their every day lives over time. This is not the case with Markle and Harry. But as much as I don't like her, I think he's a big mess and can't think of who would be better for him who wouldn't end up terribly unhappy with him.

It just makes me sad to think that the Queen and Phillip won't be around for George's wedding, and I doubt Charles or Camilla will be either. I remember what a delight the Queen Mum was at Charles and Di's wedding and now she's long gone. Life goes on, I guess.
Doesn't that make you sad?

Someone mentioned the Middletons. Were they invited? James was mentioned in another thread. He looks like a Romanov with that beard in the pic. He’s grown into his looks. When Kate and William married there was a lot of talk about him being gay on DL. Looks like some of you guys were wrong. He fills out those green pants nicely.

I think as the mother of the groom Diana would probably be seated near Doria. At Will & Kate's wedding, probably in a position similar to the Middletons, and at Harry and MM's, probably similar to Doria's.
I don't know how glamorous Diana would have been. She had the most gorgeous skin as a young woman, but was a huge sun worshipper. She'd get the kind of tan that was mostly red, and, IMO, unattractive. It made her look rough in evening wear, IMO. Her chest was all red, and her face was getting red.
The most important issue to HER at 57 would have been - did she find love, and did she remarry. She would not have liked being there with Charles / Camilla (if there were a Charles / Camilla with her still alive), Will & Kate and their happy little family, Carole and Michael, etc., and her on her own. Maybe she and Doria could have bonded. Why didn't Doria remarry, come to think of it. Good looking woman, and if she has 1/8 her daughter's hustle, she could have done well.

by Anonymous | reply 498 | May 19, 2018 8:02 PM |
The problem for poor Edward VII is he was exactly like his mother: vain, frivolous, oversexed, and lacking in real intellectual depth. That's why his intellectual father had such contempt for him. It's too bad their oldest child Vicky wasn't female. She was exactly like Albert, and would have made a much better ruler.
If Philip's stories of Elizabeth sexually exhausting him as newlyweds are true, the Hanovers pass down an active sex drive in addition to big pop eyes (I know technically Elizabeth never was a Hanover, but it's really the same freaking family).

When both boys talked about their mom in their Diana film, I was shocked at what they said.
I was kind of surprised too - they described her as a kind of kooky, free wheeling, fun loving auntie rather than an actual mom who loves you, but smacks you when you get mouthy or get bad grades. Granted, all of these kids are raised by the help, but I was surprised too that she was that OTT with her own kids. She really did sound like a total kook and would no doubt be constantly causing a shit storm, so it's probably for the best that she's out of the picture (however harsh that sounds)

R477, I’ve NEVER watched “Suits”, nor am I a Meghan Markle stan. Honestly, I couldn’t care less. I do have a soft spot for Harry, being that his mum died while he was so young, but I do not know these people, and as an American, am not as into it as others across the pond might be. But I do love weddings. I love the entire thing, and I always look forward to seeing what the bride wears. That was genuinely my big interest here, just like it was when I was still a child, and my mother woke me up to watch Diana marry Charles. I was dying to see the dress, even then!!!
How do we know Meghan ghosted people? There’s lots of bullshit floating around about her. And let’s be frank. No way could she have kept her father and somenof her criminal and tacky relatives in her life. They have been self dealing as they come, and I loyal family members. Who would keep them around? Oh please, give me a break! No one would!
I don’t see anything wrong with her wanting a better life for herself. If she is a loyal wife, a hard worker, and a good, decent, loving mother to her future children, then why did she not deserve to marry Harry??? Maybe he’s the one getting the great deal here, because I imagine that this family must be a pain in the ass to be a part of.
Give the girl a chance, and let’s see what happens.
Diana WAS TOO YOUNG to marry an old, fussy man like Charles. It is true. 19 year olds should not become wives. She needed another 8-10 years to become ready for a normal, regular marriage. I cannot imagine becoming the wife of the future King of England, at 19 years of age!
by Anonymous | reply 504 | May 19, 2018 8:05 PM |
Overall, at least the parts I saw, it was really a fun wedding to watch. The American preacher did go on, I was enjoying him until he went off on his fire and science rant and turned it off at that point. I can see more of it tonight. Loved Markle's dress, tiara, and veil, and many of the guests' outfits but many of them also looked ridiculous. It's cool there is now a biracial American in the royal family. My hope is that she and Harry will continue to be activists and forces for good in the world. It was hard not to look at Prince William's face and see Diana's features there. Meghan's mother looked beautiful, very dignified and I liked her outfit and hat. What a proud day for her.

this girl doesn't have a sense of personal style, she has Jessica Mulroney's style. Check out Mulroney's instagram and you'll see her wearing every look Meghan Markle wore during the engagement. She is Ben Mulroney's wife, as self-promoting as Meghan. When she married she had average boobs and thin lips. Now she has a big rack and trout lips. Her style is the WORST. For all the fit issues and it maybe being more of a winter dress than a spring dress, I think the wedding dress is the best thing Meghan has worn and maybe she will move away from Mulroney's influence after the wedding.
I'm interested to know what they'll pretend the dress cost. It and the veil were beautiful, but the dress material, while also beautiful, was plain and stiff, not the stuff of weeks and weeks of lace makers and seamstresses running up the cost of the thing with every stitch.

Camilla kept whispering comments to Kate under her hat and Kate was having a very hard time controlling herself. For a good while she wouldn't look up, just kept staring at the floor. Most evident when they were shown during Bishop's speech and Stand By Me. Camilla the sarcastic observer. I bet she was funny though. Charles mostly ignored them.
by Anonymous | reply 511 | May 19, 2018 8:10 PM |
Now that Meghan's royal, she'll have the royal family's style. Jessica Mulroney is going to be out in the cold.
by Anonymous | reply 512 | May 19, 2018 8:11 PM |
It is thought that Meghan dropped blind items that Camilla and Kate didn't get along. Possibly because they DO get along. She's poisonous like that. Maybe Camilla whispering to Kate under her hat, knowing the cameras were on her, was her pushback.

R499 True, Bertie lacked the same intelligence that his father and older sister possessed but he was a good king. He was extremely outgoing and personable and a lot of fun. Most importantly he understood the importance of pomp and ceremony. He knew how important it was for the monarchy to be seen and to give the people all of this stuff we associate with the monarchy.
There was a lot of republican sentiment because Victoria secluded herself for so long after Albert died. She took her mourning to an unnatural extreme and neglected her public role. After having an absent monarch for so long having a king like Edward VII was exactly what was needed and he was very much beloved.
Besides, Vicky was the mother of Kaiser Wilhelm. Who the hell knows how that all would have worked out.

You're right, R514, Bertie wasn't a bad guy at all, and he might have cavorted with far fewer whores if his mother had let him do more legitimate work. Victoria was kind of a monster: She didn't really want to be ruler after Albert died, but she wouldn't let her son do it, either. And given it was the 19th Century, I can't imagine people would have minded too much if a grieving widow abdicated in favor of her adult son.
The tragedy of Princess Vicky is that she couldn't convince her husband to accept his father's abdication when the old man first wanted to do it. Instead the old bastard held on and held on, and her husband ruled only three months. This allowed the Bismarck contingent to get its claws into Young Wilhelm, and it all went south from there. If Albert had still been alive (he only missed the crisis by a year or so) and able to support his daughter's arguments, the abdication might have happened and German history, thus world history, would have been quite different.

Having had time for the event to sink in, here is how I feel. I was expecting an absolute clusterfuck, so I feel happy to be proved wrong. The bride was beautiful, and her gown was simple and tasteful. The groom was handsome and regal looking in his uniform. The bride's mother was really lovely. I was very happy to see Prince Philip walking in on his own. And also happy to see Sarah Ferguson, really looking lovely. It's a testament to Harry's character that he insisted on inviting her. I loved it when Charles walked Meghan down the aisle, and even more, loved it when he took Doria's hand and walked with her back down the aisle on the way out. I loved the photos of the crowds outside, with people of every color all decked out in their red, white and blue, and all proud of their country.

I agree. I actually like the dress itself, but a dress that plain and simple needs a woman with impeccable posture and long lines to accentuate it. And Meghan is just average. I think the same dress on a super model would look stunning, but on Meghan it comes off looking bland and utterly forgettable. Still uses the Invictus games to divert attention from the athletes and onto free publicity for himself and his girlfriend. Still played games with the media and allowed Markle to work her social media to hint about her and Harry - AND appear on the cover of fucking Vanity Fair - then turn around and whine and complain about press coverage. Let’s remember, none of us ever dreamed that Diana would die so young, and in such an awful way. I’m obviously not wishing anyone death, but I am saying that life is unpredictable.
Why predict negative, shitty stuff for Two newlyweds? That’s very unkind, and very odd, as well.

They could agree to have an open marriage. Don't they all cheat?

Fergie looked great, way hotter than her daughters lol

That exit from the reception was all late 1960's. Even her dress - with the slight halter top and flair at the bottom- could be worn in 1966. It was like a scene from a 1966 James Bond movie. All three, Meghan, Harry in the tux and the 1966 Jaguar, looked gorgeous.

"People who are morally decent, happy human beings, don’t cheat."
You do realize that Meghan was living with Cory when she started dating Harry, right? (You get busted when you live your whole life on social media) And she probably cheated on Trevor with a hockey player based on Trevor's reaction to being asked about the guy.

Watching them on the steps, gotta say - Prince Phillip looks genuinely pleased. He was smiling brightly. I keep hearing on British press how much he and Queen Elizabeth like her. The whole thing has been really fun to watch. I'm an old silly romantic I guess.
And to the person upthread who said Amal Clooney's dress would have been more appropriate at the Kentucky Derby, my 80+ year old mum completely agreed with you (we were chatting on the phone this morning). Totally over the top for a royal wedding. Mum called it too much "look at ME".

Spectacular!
Can one imagine, being from such a humble background, awaking one day in Windsor Castle, marrying a royal prince, and then driving off into the sunset in a vintage Jag, with your love, while attired in an exquisite Stella McCartney gown?
If it were my wedding, I would have asked the prince to drive even more slowly through Windsor Castle's courtyard, allowing me to take in (memorize) such beauty and all it means.
" . . . to be in England, in the springtime, with my love, close to the edge . . . "

Someone upthread said that Markle wasn't wearing jewelry - she actually has a whole new Cartier set. She wore the new bracelet at the church, earrings for the evening party tonight. During the church ceremony, she paired a different smaller Cartier pair with the tiara. Tonight she was also wearing a large aquamarine ring formerly belonging to Diana (apparently now hers.) The theory is that Charles gave her the new Cartier set, and Harry gave her Diana's aquamarine ring.

no matter how this marriage ends up they were two very very happy people today and it was a complete relief to see this rather than hear about Trump all day. I truly hopes this works out for them.
The Brits know how to do pageantry right and I give them 10 stars for it. It is always worth watching these things for the pageantry.
The most impressive thing was Gail saying how respectful and kind the police are over there. Makes me sad that ours just think they are superior to all the rest of us and can do whatever the hell they want..

I lost the top half of my post.
Oprah had her dress with her and thought it was cream but when she looked at it thought it might be too white. She texted a picture to Gail who told her she absolutely could not wear it so she had to have a dress made Yesterday.
Prince George's coat matched his father's and uncle's. Their coats are the coat of some new appointment that Harry just got. I think they said head of the marines or something. I guess William is already a part of that group.

r551 is right on when he or she wrote "But had they added something a little extra to it, it might have struck that elusive balance of elegant simplicity, rather than simple and boring."
What it needed doesn't elude me - Color, say a subtle copper/bronze, aqua or even a bright true yellow is what Meghan's gown needed to give it that oomph that it lacked.
She's a 2nd time bride. She could have gotten away with that.
As for the preacher, one British commentator had me giggling, when he was asked what he thought the Queen was thinking during his harangue and he said he was sure she'd like to turn to the Duke and say, "This is a bit different, isn't it?" The understatement of that cracked me up.

Sad -
When Prince Charles joined Sparkle at the entrance to the church's sanctuary, to walk her down the aisle, she immediately dipped her head. The Prince did the same, almost in unison.
Contrition / Embarrassment for her lack of support for such occasion.
**Once she'd reached Prince Harry at the altar to exchange their wedding rings, neither Charles, nor Camilla, nor Kate were engaged in the moment.
Poor Sparkle -

David beckham looks happy to be there but his wife acts like she's being led to the slaughter....she looks so miserable.
I read that she eats and spits out food, she taste the food but doesn't swallow. Just what I heard.

camilla must have that same dress in every color. seems like she's always wearing the same style...she looks good, I suppose that's why she keeps wearing it.

R72, Kitty Spencer looks great, but who in the depths of Hades is that beside her? The hair is hideous. Everything about her is off and strange. I cannot believe she's a guest!

R17 What's the big deal about going bald? The brother is a fine strapping man, with a nice smile, in love with his wife and he adores his kids. A great catch for anyone. Would that you would be so fortunate to nab someone like him. If he had a toy poodle and a man purse would that make a difference to you? Talk about SHALLOW.

R583 ,i think she found out she and hubby are sitting at the back. lol.
Meanwhile, Orpah, Clooney, and Serena are amongst those in front. Orpah and Serena , I think are close friends of Meghan. But anybody know why the Clooneys are in front or even invited?
by Anonymous | reply 602 | May 19, 2018 11:04 PM |
The Clooneys were there to represent Hollywood, Globalism, fake marriages and bullshit.
