People Hollywood is trying - and failing - to make into leading men and leading ladies

Alicia Vikander

Armie Hammer

Charlie Hunnam

by Anonymousreply 103April 21, 2020 10:10 PM

I agree, Alicia Vikander is nothing. She fucked Harvey W, that's how she got her start.

by Anonymousreply 1May 16, 2018 3:56 PM

Armie Hammer has given up on being the lead in movies.

Charlie Hunnam....well, he’s pretty to look at, and his performance in “The Lost City Of Z” was remarkable. I’ll take him shirtless and naked in any movie he’s a part of.

by Anonymousreply 2May 16, 2018 4:02 PM

Thought he was mediocre in The Lost City of Z. I didn't buy him as a middle-aged man and his "posh" accent was shaky

by Anonymousreply 3May 16, 2018 4:05 PM

Jonathan Groff as a hetero—totally unbelievable in that Netflix series Mindhunter.

by Anonymousreply 4May 16, 2018 4:31 PM

Groff is a leading man on tv but not in the movies

by Anonymousreply 5May 16, 2018 4:34 PM

A leading what?

by Anonymousreply 6May 16, 2018 4:38 PM

R5 Thanks for that critical clarification - always good to hear from those on the spectrum 🙄

by Anonymousreply 7May 16, 2018 4:39 PM

Chris Pratt

by Anonymousreply 8May 16, 2018 4:39 PM

Second vote for Chris Pratt. Fuck, go away for 10 minutes, dude.

by Anonymousreply 9May 16, 2018 4:40 PM

Taylor Kitsch

by Anonymousreply 10May 16, 2018 4:43 PM

r7, you must be on the spectrum if you think there is no difference between movies and tv. Try to be less of a twat.

by Anonymousreply 11May 16, 2018 4:45 PM

Timothee Chalamet

by Anonymousreply 12May 16, 2018 4:46 PM

R11 Hollywood includes the TV industry, dickbag.

by Anonymousreply 13May 16, 2018 4:48 PM

Chris Hemsworth

He’s a dud outside his role of Thor

by Anonymousreply 14May 16, 2018 5:20 PM

Most of them?

by Anonymousreply 15May 16, 2018 5:25 PM

Bingo r15

by Anonymousreply 16May 16, 2018 5:33 PM

I don't get the appeal of Ansel Elgort. Even potatoes have bigger eyes.

by Anonymousreply 17May 16, 2018 6:00 PM

Alicia Vikander is as bland as oatmeal- cant stand her

by Anonymousreply 18May 16, 2018 8:13 PM

R8 Chris Pratt is already a big leading man star. Can't stop him now.

by Anonymousreply 19May 16, 2018 8:19 PM

Let’s see him a film that doesn’t involve some huge $300 million franchise project. Everything he’s succeeded in would’ve worked with any number of interchangeable actors who could’ve been plugged in.

by Anonymousreply 20May 16, 2018 8:23 PM

John Boyega . Terrible actor, not good looking, got in through the PC door, and is the weak link in every movie he's in.

By the way, is he gay?

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 21May 16, 2018 8:23 PM

Chris Pine

by Anonymousreply 22May 16, 2018 8:26 PM

Idris Elba is the male equivalent of Alicia Vikander. Boring, boring, bland and boring.

by Anonymousreply 23May 16, 2018 8:31 PM

Of all the Chrises, I like Chris Pine the most. He's not only impossibly handsome, but he's charming, can sing, and has a sense of humor. I can see him growing into a distinguished, grizzled character actor like Jeff Bridges or something. I don't know where the fuck Hemsworth will go after all those superhero movies.

by Anonymousreply 24May 16, 2018 8:32 PM

Jake GrannyHalāl or whatever his name is. Tried for years.

by Anonymousreply 25May 16, 2018 9:31 PM

Also that australian wolf guy with poz face who sings and dances.

by Anonymousreply 26May 16, 2018 9:32 PM

Wolferine, R26?

by Anonymousreply 27May 16, 2018 9:34 PM

Ryan Twitvoiced Reynolds finally hit 1 success. So many many years and millions invested in that. In 2018, could he open any movie but his franchise? Doubtful.

by Anonymousreply 28May 16, 2018 9:34 PM

Amy Schumer

by Anonymousreply 29May 16, 2018 9:34 PM

Jake Gyllenhaal

by Anonymousreply 30May 16, 2018 9:34 PM

Shia Laboeuf, although I think they may have given up by now.

by Anonymousreply 31May 16, 2018 9:36 PM

But even as a failed leading man, he was delicious when he was prancy and thin like this:

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 32May 16, 2018 9:39 PM

Dylan O’Brien

by Anonymousreply 33May 16, 2018 9:40 PM

Jake G at least can act. Pine will always have work.

by Anonymousreply 34May 16, 2018 9:47 PM

Ryan Gosling

by Anonymousreply 35May 16, 2018 9:48 PM

There are no stars anymore. Nobody can carry a picture on their name alone.

by Anonymousreply 36May 16, 2018 9:49 PM

Fuck me, forgot all about Gosling. Move him to the top of the list.

by Anonymousreply 37May 16, 2018 9:52 PM

They've stopped trying (thank God), but for a short while: Sam Worthington

by Anonymousreply 38May 16, 2018 9:53 PM

Don't. I feel bad about Shia. He really is a fine actor. He has demons. He probably needs to be on meds for the rest of his life and hopefully he has enough money to hire a minder. But he is a very talented actor. I think he's a tragic figure.

by Anonymousreply 39May 16, 2018 10:05 PM

Amy Schumer was a lot of fun. At first. No she repels me.

by Anonymousreply 40May 16, 2018 10:05 PM

Now. I meant "Now she repels me."

by Anonymousreply 41May 16, 2018 10:06 PM

"Terrible actor, not good looking, got in through the PC door, and is the weak link in every movie he's in"

Yawn, the Republican trolls always have to whine about everything they think is "PC" - I guess they have this weird belief that all black actors just automatically get lead roles which is far from true.

by Anonymousreply 42May 17, 2018 12:41 AM

Brie Larson

by Anonymousreply 43May 17, 2018 12:53 AM

[quote]Let’s see him a film that doesn’t involve some huge $300 million franchise project. Everything he’s succeeded in would’ve worked with any number of interchangeable actors who could’ve been plugged in.

Speaking of which .... Jennifer Lawrence

Amy Schumer - nepotism personified

Ed Helms - Untalented and unfunny

by Anonymousreply 44May 17, 2018 12:54 AM

Alicia Vikander was only a thing because of Harvey. She'll go away now. Her Tomb Raider was a bomb.

by Anonymousreply 45May 17, 2018 12:55 AM

Blake Lively needs to go away

by Anonymousreply 46May 17, 2018 12:59 AM

Gal Gadot.

Margot Robbie.

by Anonymousreply 47May 17, 2018 1:00 AM

Blake Lively at the Met Gayla. Just who does she think she is? Hasn't starred in a movie in years.

by Anonymousreply 48May 17, 2018 1:03 AM

I wouldn't recognize half of those who have been mentioned. Alicia Vikander (sp?) ? Dear god, there is no there there. I could not pick her out of a lineup. I'm sure she is a decent actress -- at least I assume she is -- but she has no style, no charisma, no "it" factor. Same with Margot Robbie. Who the hell is she? Ryan Gosling. We have been told he is talented and hot, but...by his flacks. He lacks charm. Brie Larson. I would not know her if she sat next to me on the couch right now. But, again, she might be a decent actress. I don't think Ed Helms is terribly good, but I think he is hot, perversely. At least Amy Schumer has style and charisma and an identifiable persona, even though it is repulsive. The rest? They all blend into each other, and very very few stand out from the crowd. How on earth did they get the careers they have, when they don't have that appeal? Are there any insiders here? Did they just get lucky with personal connections and good agents? Did they just fuck for roles? How did those without much appeal manage to do it, when so many better looking and with more talent languish? Is it their drive and relentlessness?

by Anonymousreply 49May 17, 2018 1:06 AM

Apparently all the blah ladies were Harvey's cum receptacles and then men, well who knows. Many of the blah men were child actors....

by Anonymousreply 50May 17, 2018 1:09 AM

How'd Alicia Vikander get that Oscar? First she was clearly a lead and second she wasn't that special or well known. Dopey academy.

by Anonymousreply 51May 17, 2018 1:11 AM

Wait, Alicia fucked Harvey?

I get why Margot Robbie is a thing. There hasn’t been a sexy, fun, blonde star since Cameron Diaz when to seed 15 years ago.

by Anonymousreply 52May 17, 2018 1:58 AM

[quote] I get why Margot Robbie is a thing.

She really isn't.

by Anonymousreply 53May 17, 2018 2:00 AM

Actually, Alicia Vickander is a very good actress. She's already won an Oscar and is able to play any range of different characters. I like her.

Chiwetel Ejiofor was very good in 12 Years A Slave and was nominated for an Oscar but everything he's done after that has been shitty. He was the worst thing about the Dr. Strange movie. Also doesn't help that you can't pronounce his name.

R54 WHO??

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 57May 17, 2018 2:36 AM

Can’t tell if you were joking, R12, but Timothée Chalamet co-starred in two of last year’s Best Picture nominees (“Call Me By Your Name” and “Lady Bird”) and is the first Best Actor nominee born in the 1990s. That doesn’t mean he’ll become a huge star, but come on. He’s doing fine.

I don’t think he’s being “pushed,” either. His role in “Lady Bird” wasn’t very big, and his role in “Hostiles” was even smaller. He probably could have parlayed his relationship with Madonna’s daughter into some dumb project, but instead chose to work with filmmakers as varied as James Ivory, Greta Gerwig, and Scott Cooper.

He’s got the chops.

by Anonymousreply 58May 17, 2018 3:32 AM

R42 Actually, I can't figure out who is the ugliest, Adam Driver or John Boyega.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 59May 17, 2018 4:15 AM

Chiwetel is good, plus he also did full-frontal in some independent film some years ago. Hot bod, though his hair (or wig) is very different look.

by Anonymousreply 60May 17, 2018 4:23 AM

Adam, R59. Definitely Adam.

by Anonymousreply 61May 17, 2018 4:28 AM

John Cena - Not Gonna Happen

by Anonymousreply 62May 17, 2018 4:31 AM

R61 No, John.

Chewetel Ejiofor is a fine actor. I loved him in American Gangster.. He was great in Kinky Boots and Dirty Pretty Things, and everything else he's ever done. But it seem like the powers that be who make the movies can only absorb one famous Black actor at a time. After him came David Oyelowo in Selma. Excellent actor. Now we have Chadwick Boseman who is in everything. Jackie Robinson, James Brown, Thurgood Marshall, and now Black Panther. The two guys I want to see more of are Michael B. Jordan, and Athony Mackie. And WEHT Trevante Rhodes from Moonlight? He was glorious and so was Mahershala Ali.

by Anonymousreply 64May 17, 2018 5:16 AM

Straight actress Jessica Chastain.

by Anonymousreply 65May 17, 2018 6:21 AM

Why do people think she is a lesbian R65?

by Anonymousreply 66May 17, 2018 6:42 AM

I'd say still trying with Dylan O'Brien r33, it's too early to tell how his career will go. It looks like he has 3 films in the pipeline now, all very different from one another.

by Anonymousreply 67May 17, 2018 7:07 AM

Jai Courtney and the Hemsworth brothers Chris & Liam. Margot Robbie, Brie Larson & the Alicia chick.

by Anonymousreply 68May 17, 2018 10:06 AM

Jason Clarke and Joel Edgerton. Literally no one gives a shit.

by Anonymousreply 69May 17, 2018 10:13 AM

R4 Groff is thoroughly unconvincing in a straight role, too fem. And without great supporting characters around him, cannot pull of the lead role in anything.

Just not leading man material for either tv or movies.

by Anonymousreply 70May 17, 2018 1:04 PM

R67 I think that Dylan finally committed himself to different genres than action, thank god! Because I see very much potential there...his next movie he’ll be shooting this summer will be with Gary Oldman.

by Anonymousreply 71May 17, 2018 3:03 PM

"Groff is thoroughly unconvincing in a straight role, too fem. And without great supporting characters around him, cannot pull of the lead role in anything."

People here always say this about any out actor, but I bet 90% of the straights watching Mindhunter don't even know he's gay

by Anonymousreply 72May 17, 2018 3:05 PM

Dakota johnson

by Anonymousreply 73May 17, 2018 3:14 PM

Dakota Johnson makes wood look animated and interesting.

by Anonymousreply 74May 17, 2018 5:22 PM

Rooney Mara.

An old mayonnaise stain on the couch has more flavor than she does.

Unremarkable on the screen, and ZERO personality or charisma or anything relating to being interesting as a human.

But let's give her credit: she comes from wealth and prestige and she does manage to mention she watches John Cassavetes movies in every interview.

by Anonymousreply 75May 17, 2018 6:16 PM

Amy Schumer is annoying as fuck.

by Anonymousreply 76May 17, 2018 7:15 PM

R72 Bullshit. Only his diehard fanfraus think that. His fem side is obvious to the other 90% of the world.

by Anonymousreply 77May 17, 2018 7:43 PM

If there's a thread about him on Datalounge, he falls in this category.

by Anonymousreply 78May 17, 2018 7:46 PM

I hated Dakota Fanning in the Alienist

by Anonymousreply 79May 17, 2018 8:54 PM

R79 I hate Dakota Fanning in everything.

by Anonymousreply 80May 17, 2018 8:56 PM

R80 = Abigail Breslin

by Anonymousreply 81May 17, 2018 9:02 PM

r54 Vikander is awful. Like watching paint dry.

by Anonymousreply 82May 17, 2018 10:25 PM

Jai Courtney own this thread. Wooden and neanderthal looking.

He must have gave up his coinslot during Spartacus to make the move to American films.

by Anonymousreply 83May 17, 2018 10:42 PM

Brothers of actors who have "made it". Hemsworth brothers, Dave Franco, Casey Affleck. Zac Efron leads the list here then Armie Hammer, Jamie Dornan, Henry Cavill, Ryan Reynolds, Sam Worthington.

by Anonymousreply 84May 17, 2018 10:50 PM

Brie Larson.

by Anonymousreply 85May 17, 2018 10:52 PM

Felicity Jones. Snore.

by Anonymousreply 86May 17, 2018 11:38 PM

Lily James. Bland, bloodless posh girl.

Ditto Felicity Jones.

by Anonymousreply 87May 17, 2018 11:52 PM

YES to Felicity Jones. What a snorefest. Also Emilia Clarke

by Anonymousreply 88May 18, 2018 12:04 AM

R57, holy crap I didn't realize just how big a flop the rebooted Tomb Raider movie was. If not for China, it film would have made no money at all. It made even less in the US than the second one with Jolie (which also flopped).

by Anonymousreply 89May 18, 2018 12:36 AM

Cara Delevingne.

by Anonymousreply 90May 18, 2018 12:36 AM

Can you believe some of these bitches have Oscars already??

by Anonymousreply 91May 18, 2018 12:47 AM

Every marvel actor outside their marvel roles, all bombs and plops.

by Anonymousreply 92May 18, 2018 12:58 AM

Armie Hammer because he is still whinning bout that buzzfeed article .LOL

by Anonymousreply 93May 18, 2018 1:48 AM

Jonathan Groff played straight fairly convincingly in 'Boss' with Kelsey Grammer some years ago.

by Anonymousreply 94May 18, 2018 2:07 AM

Chalamet Will end up at a 7-eleven.

by Anonymousreply 95May 18, 2018 2:36 AM

"His fem side is obvious to the other 90% of the world."

I think you are overestimating the gaydar of straight people. I know straights who were shocked to find out that Kevin Spacey was gay.

by Anonymousreply 96May 18, 2018 2:53 AM

R96 True

by Anonymousreply 97May 18, 2018 8:56 AM

[87] Couldn't agree more!

by Anonymousreply 98May 18, 2018 9:06 AM

Meryl's fugally daughters and I'm sure Nicole Kidman pays directors to cast her.

by Anonymousreply 99May 18, 2018 9:08 AM

People like to say that "nepotism gets you in the door, but you need talent to go further" Dakota Johnson is one of the best examples of how bullshit that statement is. She is mediocre looking and has no personality or charisma.
