In addition to the Boarding House, the Drummonds are also building a Steakhouse and Event Hall:
In the wake of the highly successful launch of the Pioneer Woman Mercantile, Ree Drummond and family are at work renovating two more historic buildings in downtown Pawhuska.
The two buildings — one a three-story structure, the other a two-story building — are adjacent to each other. The three-story building will become an eight-room boutique hotel, with a retail area on the first floor.
“We plan to make the other building, which has two stories, into an event space,” Drummond said in a recent telephone conversation. “It would be a way to accommodate large groups that might want to have a special dining experience, for example.
“And our plans now are maybe for a specialty bar and steakhouse on the upper floor,” she said.
The Pioneer Woman is also blazing a new trail — straight into America’s bedrooms.
Drummond, who turned her blog about life on a cattle ranch in Osage County into a domestic empire that includes best-selling cookbooks, a popular TV series on Food Network, and a combination store and restaurant that draws thousands of fans each month to downtown Pawhuska, will launch a new line of bedding Oct. 4.
The Pioneer Woman bedding collection will be available exclusively online at walmart.com and hayneedle.com.
“We love partnering with Walmart,” Drummond said. “It’s really been a great match from the start.”
The launch is one of several new projects under the Pioneer Woman banner. Drummond’s latest cookbook, “The Pioneer Woman Cooks: Come and Get It” (William Morrow, $29.99), which emphasizes fast, easy and satisfying meals for families with busy lives, will be officially released Oct. 24
Drummond added that examples of her new collection of bed linens may likely furnish the boutique hotel rooms.
“Ladd and I were talking the other day about this and looking at sheet and bedding options,” Drummond said. “And we both kind of stopped and said, ‘Why are we talking about this? We’ve got this collection coming out.’ And since it’s going to be such a small hotel, it’s possible that we could put a different Pioneer Woman collection in every room.”
The new line of bedding will include comforters, quilts, sheets, regular and Euro-style shams in four patterns: Rose Garden, Beautiful Bouquet, Floral Medallion and Ticking Stripe.
“I’ve been in the kitchen and dining room realms at Walmart for a couple of years now,” Drummond said. “Bedding was something I’ve been interested in offering for some time, so we’re diving right in.”
As their names indicate, the Rose Garden, Beautiful Bouquet and Floral Medallion patterns feature the bold floral imagery that has been a hallmark of Drummond’s tableware and kitchen linens.
“I had a lot of input from the beginning on the designs,” Drummond said. “I think it’s a great mix of florals and solids. I don’t want to assume that everyone is as much in love with bright floral patterns as I am, although that is kind of a defining thing for (The Pioneer Woman brand).”
Drummond said people could purchase complete matching sets of a given pattern, or choose items from any of the individual patterns to create unique looks.
“I wanted it to look as if the collection had been put together over time,” she said. “That kind of reflects our life here on the ranch. It gives things a vintage air.
“We did similar things with the dinnerware and ceramics,” Drummond said. “I really want it to look like what you might see when you open up a cupboard or a linen closet in your grandma’s house — you find all these pieces from here and there. Even the floral patterns we use have a vintage air to them.”
While Walmart will be the principal seller of the Pioneer Woman line, Drummond said that some select pieces from the bedding collection, such as decorative pillows, will be available at the Mercantile in Pawhuska.
