She was so good as Streisand's understudy in "Funny Girl" that she is probably the only person to strike terror into Barbra. Of course, Kazan didn't help matters by pulling an Eve Harrington and having all the press review a performance where she went on.

After theater, Lainie made records, Lainie was on TV shows, Lainie did the nightclub circuit, Lainie appeared in a few bad movies. Later, Lainie appeared in some hit movies. Hardly a loser. That Streisand stuff happened 53 years ago.

She was the entertainer at a gala I attended in 2004. She was a hell of a lot of fun and I loved her music.
