All I know is this: we used to be able to joke about Armie and Liz, nitpick and do whatever else we wanted on these threads WITHOUT people trying to suppress the natural tone of Datalounge. I would not be surprised if the collaboration between Luca and Aciman goes sour at some point. Both have healthy egos and are bound to clash in their visions to some extent. Aciman said of the first film that he stayed out of the process, but he really didn't - he complained about a couple of choices which James Ivory then amended, though he disagreed. Aciman also has no experience with screenwriting and that brings with it its own set of challenges. I tend to think that R16 is right and that at least part of the whole sequel push was everybody, starting with Luca, getting a bit carried away with all the acclaim. Whether everyone will remain carried away for the years it will take to see it through is by no means certain.

The Armie threads did not used to be like this though. I don't mind the odd Elizabeth comment or whatever and that was always a part of it. But it's literally every time she posts anything, people find a way to turn it into something bad. If she hasn't done or said anything questionable then it turns into how ugly or old or mannish or skinny she looks. It's an incredibly excessive amount of negativity that is exhausting to read through.

Well it doesn't sound like the final confirmation as he said they are thinking about where to go with the story because the book and movie have different endings....BUT he sounded pretty confident.I guess he was talking about Walter Fasano or who else?

Luca has always been very confident that he wants to do it and I never understood why people thought he would do a 180 as soon as promo was over. He'd just make himself look like an idiot.

What matters now is to make this sequel in time before Armie gets bald.

The issue is for some reason a lot of people thought that them saying they wanted to do a sequel meant that it was 1. 100% confirmed and 2. Would happen soon. I think Aciman's recent comments were more just trying to temper people's expectations than anything. It wouldn't be good for anyone if a sequel were to come out anytime soon. Not for the actors or Luca who don't only want to be known for CMBYN and not for the characters as there's no worthwhile story to be told happening so soon after the end of the first one.

It will be good when it gets to Fall and Armie, Luca and Timmy have other new projects out and people stop hassling them about CMBYN so much and maybe calm down and forget about the sequel for a while. Take off the lofty expectations and things will turn out much better.

A sequel wouldn't take as long to get financed as the first one, not after the first one was a significant awards player and (despite claims to the contrary) a box office success.
