ATTN: West Coast Inc CA, Earthquake Predicted 5/15/19

Multiple sources have predicted a major earthquake along the entire West Coast from So Cal up to Canada on May 15, 2018. Rumors of disaster preparedness provisions are already in operation in the targeted areas. Do not rely on the government to evacuate you.

I hope that the info is wrong but please be prepared anyway.

by Anonymousreply 1May 10, 2018 9:52 PM

R1, If you live on the West Coast I'd take a look at what's happening with the Plates post the HI volcanic activity. Or I'd talk to a geologist.

by Anonymousreply 2May 10, 2018 9:58 PM

Yeah, cause earthquakes can be predicted with the precision of an atomic clock.

Well, learn something new every day. Didn't know earthquakes could be predicted almost a week out. Hmm, good to know.

by Anonymousreply 9May 10, 2018 10:31 PM

You mean a year, R9.

by Anonymousreply 10May 10, 2018 10:32 PM

^ Oh yeah, thanks, didn't even notice that. A year. They can't predict them a day in advance, let alone a year. Ridiculous.

by Anonymousreply 11May 10, 2018 10:35 PM

Googled it.

May 15, 2015.

Nice Try OP

by Anonymousreply 12May 10, 2018 10:37 PM

This is ridiculous and highly inconvenient.

How am I suppose to go to the beach when the wold is falling apart around me?

by Anonymousreply 13May 10, 2018 10:37 PM

Over the years they've become somewhat more reliable with the addition of many sensors in strategic locations. Its the same with meteorology. The last 5 times they predicted snow in Atlanta about 4 to 5 days before it was expected, and it snowed all 5 times. But we don't have much capability of clearing the roads. We usually warm to above freezing and within days it is gone. Down south, we are far more likely to get ice storms. And we are way overdue for a big one.

by Anonymousreply 14May 10, 2018 10:43 PM

Sorry I can't correct the type. Obviously I met May 15, 2018. Despite being sick in bed with the stomach flu I'll locate more credible sources for you as proof however.

by Anonymousreply 15May 10, 2018 10:46 PM

R14 I agree for hurricanes, flooding, heavy snowfall, cyclones, tsunamis, and major storms in general, but predicting an earthquake a week or year in advance. No. We're not there yet. Not by a long stretch. Maybe in the year 2050.

Do you trust CBS who interviewed a prominent physics professor?

As opposed to those pleasurable medical procedures one hears so much of?

by Anonymousreply 18May 10, 2018 10:52 PM

R17 I agree it's definitely overdue. Long overdue. No doubt about that. And if I lived there I'd be concerned.

But I don't believe they have the technology to accurately predict a *major* earthquake a week in advance. At this point, with all of the swarms occurring, it's obvious there will be more minor quakes. That's a given. But no, not for a major one. There are too many variables. I don't believe the technology for predicating major ones that far in advance exists.

I wouldn't depend on the US Gov't to provide early warnings nor assist with evacuation in any emergency.

Clark County, NV was just sued for giving their unwanted mentally ill "bus therapy." That consisted of a free bus ticket to SF. Of course no one was there to greet them at the SF Bus Station, and they didn't have the mental capacity to care for themselves. So do you think the State of CA will evacuate all of the mentally ill that have been dumped in their state if there's a big earthquake?

Well I suppose when it rains it pours. Zuckerberg's mansion and 700 acres is on that island. Interesting comment on DM:

I still say that the cause of these events over the past 12-18 months all started at the same time as NK began its latest series of underground nuclear tests. You can see from the map in the article how close NK is to the ring. Once something triggers things off, a chain reaction begins and the eruptions and earthquakes we've seen are the result.

Hawaii isn't even part of the "ring of fire". The ring of fire consists of areas where tectonic plates meet. Hawaii is over what's called a hot spot. It's a thin point in an existing plate. Therefore the eruption there means fcuk all.

R60 - 'The eruption of a Hawaii volcano in the Pacific “Ring of Fire” has experts warily eyeing volcanic peaks on America’s West Coast that are also part of the geologically active region. “There’s lots of anxiety out there,” said Liz Westby, geologist at the US Geological Survey Cascades Volcano Observatory in Vancouver, Washington, in the shadow of Mount St. Helens.

Leading US geologists have warned that California could be the next site of explosive volcanic eruptions, with three potential volcanoes at "very high" risk of blowing up.

California sits on the volatile Pacific Ring of Fire, and scientists are now warning that a volcanic eruption in the state is "due" according to their predictions. This follows the sudden eruption of Hawaii's Kilauea volcano, which could be set to unleash its biggest eruption yet in the coming week. The California Volcano Observatory (CVO) revealed that seven of the state's 19 volcanoes are at high threat, with a three of those at "very high" risk of imminent eruption.

From that AP article: "The Cascades Volcano Observatory monitors volcanoes in the Pacific Northwest and posts weekly status reports. All currently register "normal.""

I'm in Portland, 80 miles from Mt. St. Helens and 50 miles from Mt. Hood, and there's been no reports lately of even minor-level activity at either one.

As for the big 8.0 earthquake off the NW coast - yes, it could happen tomorrow, or it could happen 100 years from now. It cannot be predicted.

OP is probably into that QAnon conspiracy nonsense too.

by Anonymousreply 87May 13, 2018 2:33 AM

So is it earthquakes or volcanoes? Make up your mind.

Okay, seriously, no there isn't going to be an earthquake stretching from SoCal up to Canada. That's not how earthquakes work--they occur at pressure points. And, yeah, a pretty big earthquake can happen at any time, though the San Andreas isn't thought to be able to generate a quake as big as the one at Fukushima.

Hawaiian volcanoes have nothing to do with any fault or volcanic activity on the Pacific coast. Basically, there's always volcanic activity in Hawaii--it's a hot spot--and sometimes it's hotter than others, like now. It's well monitored, so property and homes will be lost, but people, if they follow the law and evacuate, will be fine.

[quote] The California Volcano Observatory (CVO) revealed that seven of the state's 19 volcanoes are at high threat, with a three of those at "very high" risk of imminent eruption.

The CVO's high/very high threat rating doesn't actually mean that the volcanoes are on the verge of eruption. The ratings measure the risk of the volcano over time and the need for monitoring. For instance, Mount Shasta is considered "very high" threat, but the website also says that earthquake activity has been low for the past several decades and that ground deformation is negligible.

I do remember that very recently (last couple of years or so) that media put out an EQ alert for SoCal--it was remarkable since I had never seen such a thing before or since. Having been born & raised here, it's not rocket science to realize that IT will happen one of these days . . . you haven't lived until you've been in one in one of the high rises downtown, or in a hillside home perched on a single pier as we were during Northridge. Our place was in Montrose; I now believe in the pre-EQ negative ion theory because we had been arguing the night of the 16th & had slammed doors before going to bed--we almost NEVER do that! After the shaking subsided a bit, we ran & hugged each other, & watched in shocked disbelief as the lights of LA started going out, just like in a movie--bam, bam, bam! Such a beautiful but scary view. For about the last month & a half I've been having the feeling that something is coming up, and have talked with others that feel the same way. In any case, it's just common sense to have supplies, (including a generator, depending on your circumstances) escape plans, and an out of state contact to phone--don't call locally or in-state right after as the circuits/towers may be overloaded/down. I'm a firm believer in Bette's admonition to "Fasten your seats belts . . "

by Anonymousreply 149May 15, 2018 2:37 PM

R142, So far there have been two preliminary quakes, last night a 3.6 in the SF Bay area, and late last week in SE San Diego County. Stronger quakes are predicted for 5/18 - 5/19 depending on exactly when the HI volcano will blow. Every day there are more fissures with increasing intensity.

I hope the predictions are wrong and that all humans and animals stay safe. Warning to be prepared just in case. So odd to me that the feds disaster preparedness major expense exercise is the 1st week of June, election week.

by Anonymousreply 161May 16, 2018 2:54 AM

Date change?

by Anonymousreply 162May 16, 2018 3:05 AM

R162, Wished I could have changed the title of this thread. Yes as I've been repeatedly posting all along the date was changed to 5/18 - 5/19. However there already were 2 minor quakes, including a 3.6 - 3.8 last night in the Oakland Area, and a similar one last weekend in SE San Diego. Both are considered to be preliminary quakes by the experts.

There are 20 fissures of the HI Volcano, and HI is now on Red Alert. Depending on the strength and the activity of the HI volcano, the West Coast will see abnormality. FYI official government experts are now restricted from publishing any data unless approved by PR to avoid a possible panic. If there's a greater than 50 - 50 chance personally I'd rather be informed.

by Anonymousreply 163May 16, 2018 3:52 AM

by Anonymousreply 164May 16, 2018 3:56 AM

by Anonymousreply 215May 17, 2018 4:01 AM

I moved out of CA in 2005. Lived there (Silicon Valley) almost 20 years. After the 1989 Loma Prieta quake I read that you can tell about 10 seconds prior to a quake that one is coming by hanging a few lightweight wire hangers (I know DLers don't use wire hangers) in the closets placed a few inches apart with nothing on them.

Sure enough, just prior to the few quakes that occurred while I was home, I heard the tintinnabulation of the wire hangers. It was only 8-10 seconds of warning. But hey, it gave me time to take cover instead of being caught off-guard. It works. So that's my earthquake detection device. I was able to predict earthquakes 10 seconds prior to them occurring.

by Anonymousreply 216May 17, 2018 4:13 AM

It amazes me how many people don't bother to read details. Look again at the OP's post and tell me when he said the earthquake is supposed to happen. Hint: it wasn't yesterday.

I love how dear little Poo simply cannot help believing anything she sees on YouTube. Seriously, on another thread, she was spinning one of her usual conspiracy theories and she insisted it had to be true because she found several YouTube videos discussing it. SMH.

by Anonymousreply 250May 20, 2018 6:53 PM

Well OP, the 19th has come and gone. No earthquake. No do-overs or extensions on the date.

250 replies about an earthquake that didn't happen, a prediction like most, that didn't come true.

by Anonymousreply 251May 20, 2018 6:56 PM

Oh, but see, R251, we have had several micro-quakes (although California experiences 37,000 such quakes every year).

We have also had several "preliminary quakes" (although there is no such term and these quakes are just part of those usual 37,000 such quakes).

And the volcano in Hawaii is still erupting (although it's been steadily erupting since 1983).

So clearly, we're all doomed and "the big one" is going to happen any day now. Really. This time she means it. Just you wait. Right about ... now. Oh, wait ... I mean now. Well, any minute now, anyway.

There really is a "big one" due in the Pacific Northwest, of course, and it could happen today, tomorrow, or 50 years from now. But Poo never has been able to bring herself to admit that you cannot predict an earthquake and that all of her posts on this thread have been arrant nonsense.

As for California, a statewide quake above 8.0 happens every 2500 years or so and no one is expecting it any time soon. A smaller quake, say 7.0, which is still very severe, could hit sometime in the next 30 years, which could also mean today, tomorrow, or whenever.

The only way that anyone can forecast an earthquake is if the earth is kind enough to unleash hundreds of foreshocks. And even then, it's not a sure thing. Such an incident and prediction worked in China in 1975. But such foreshocks also happened along the central California coast in 1988 without a resulting earthquake, at least until 16 years later.

But since I didn't put this into a YouTube video and since this doesn't play into Poo's desire to be a drama queen, she will ignore this dose of reality.

I’m glad certain death didn’t come just yet. There’s this guy I’d like to get fucked by first.

But such foreshocks also happened along the central California coast in *1988* without a resulting earthquake, at least until 16 years later."

Loma Prieta Earthquake, San Francisco Bay Area, October 1989.

by Anonymousreply 254May 20, 2018 8:31 PM

The Loma Prieta earthquake was in a different location, away from the location of those foreshocks I was referring to, and the Loma Prieta earthquake didn't happen until well over a year later, so the foreshocks were of no predictive value, anyway.

You might as well decide that foreshocks in Vancouver predict an earthquake in Seattle and evacuate everyone in the Pacific Northwest for over a year until the earthquake occurs. Not to mention that you have to decide that the foreshocks really are substantially different than the 37,000 other such shocks that occur every year.

And even in China, the one success story for such predictions, the actual 7.3 magnitude earthquake didn't occur until days after the various events that led to the prediction (more than just foreshocks). Does anyone really think that we should, or even can, evacuate all of Los Angeles or San Francisco for days? Worse, most earthquakes occur without any such warnings, as was observed in China in a subsequent earthquake a year after that one success story. And the majority of the time, such foreshocks and other precursors appear without the earthquake subsequently appearing.

All that scientists can do is issue general probabilities, e.g., that there is a 67% chance of a major earthquake occurring in the San Francisco Bay area over the next 30 years. Regarding Poo's posts on this thread, see this from the USGS FAQ regarding people who insist that they can predict earthquakes:

[quote]They are not based on scientific evidence, and earthquakes are part of a scientific process. For example, earthquakes have nothing to do with clouds, bodily aches and pains, or slugs.

[quote]They do not define all 3 of the elements required for a prediction (the date/time, the location, the magnitude).

[quote]Their predictions are so general that there will always be an earthquake that fits; such as, (a) There will be a M4 earthquake somewhere in the U.S. in the next 30 days. (b) There will be a M2 earthquake on the west coast of the U.S. today.

Earthquakes cannot be predicted. And even if they could be predicted and were announced to the public there would be more injuries and deaths as a result of everyone evacuating the area than if they were prepared with adequate emergency supplies and just stayed put and hunkered down. The technology to detect/predict 'the big one' might be invented someday, but it won't be in our lifetime.

Southern California has been overdue for an 8.0+ along the southern San Andreas since I was a little kid, 50 years ago. This isn't fucking news to anyone who lives in So.Cal, OP.

All anyone can do is make sure their homes are as safe as possible, and be well-prepared for the aftermath. If you've done that, then there's really no point in worrying. You control what you can control.

And no matter what happens, California is not going to tumble into the sea....as much as you might like it to. Science, and all.

The state of California and Arizona are secretly discussing a plan detailing on what would happen if a huge earthquake caused by the recent volcano in Hawaii struck California & over 400,000 people were to flee at one time.

If you live on the west coast, be wary.

Google it if you don't believe me. 5/21 - 5/24 Mass evacuation drill planned to evacuate over 38,000 people to AZ by governmental authorities. Not just a YouTube vid. Hope it's just a precautionary plan and nothing for concern. Still . . .

by Anonymousreply 258May 21, 2018 3:36 AM

Know you won't believe me if I don't provide a valid link. Has there ever been a drill this huge of this kind?

LOL.... You really are a gullible fool, aren't you, Poo? Is there no conspiracy theory so foolish that you won't believe it?

And yes, of course there has, and even bigger ones in California, Washington, and Oregon. Seriously, you really are genuinely intellectually challenged, aren't you?

by Anonymousreply 260May 21, 2018 3:44 AM

And just for the record, Poo dear, the drill in Arizona has nothing at all to do with "a huge earthquake caused by the recent volcano in Hawaii." You don't prepare for a drill like this in just a few days. Moreover, this is part of a national series of such drills, planning for which began in 2017, and none of which have anything at all to do with Hawaii:

[quote]The five strategic goals of the National Mass Care Strategy seek to move the nation in a direction that increases the capabilities and capacities of the Whole Community across the range and scale of disasters to which this country is vulnerable. One of the tasks in this Strategy was to conduct an annual national mass care system exercise that focuses on establishing state-to federal coordination systems and integrating staff from key NGOs, faith-based organizations, and the private sector into an effective mass care multi-agency coordination structure.

[quote]The National Mass Care Exercises commenced in Florida. Then additional states followed which include: Texas, Missouri, Utah, and now Arizona. No two NMCE’s are the same, the scenarios vary, the objectives are based on what the state would like to test, and the players vary based on the FEMA Region and the focus of the exercise. The exercise provides an excellent opportunity to build relationships, provide needed Mass Care/Emergency Assistance training, and a chance to strengthen and develop task force.

Note the date on the linked post, oh foolish one.

Oh, and Poo dear, 400,000 people is nothing. The largest earthquake drill happened in California in 2017, involving 10.2 million people. It's the "Great Shakeout," an annual event.

by Anonymousreply 262May 21, 2018 3:49 AM

R261 beat me to it. The first one was in 2009 and they've been held annually since 2012. Some years deal with hurricanes, others earthquakes, and it all depends on which state happens to be hosting it that year. It's not a prediction of what's about to happen.

When it's held in SE states, it's a hurricane scenario; when it's in the West, they do earthquakes.

by Anonymousreply 263May 21, 2018 4:06 AM

Screw earthquakes, you gotta worry about laze now...
