...just got back from this. I wouldn't say it was a bad movie, but it was really a bunch of *nothing*. Am I missing something?
Chappaquiddick movie

In the water I'm a very skinny lady.

Give us spoilers OP. What storyline did they go with? does he really go in the water to try and save her? or are they saying something else happened?

To me it just spotlighted the power of wealth and also the cult of personality of the Kennedys.

Republican porn.

I thought it was infuriating. I don’t give a fuck what he did in the senate. He was a despicable human being and treated women like shit. Any other MA politician probably would have, given the chance, voted the way Kennedy did without groping women and all the other moral failings.

Kennedys are all scum.

I’m in Massachusetts and voted for Teddy. I believe in redemption and I think he changed. Plus he was very effective in the Senate.

No portrayal of Joan or cameo of John Jr walking out of the Mineshaft at 4am

Watched it on pay per view and had to spread it out over two evenings it was so awful. But I didn’t want to waste my 5.99 so I watched it all. May have fell asleep at the end. It was exhaustingly bad.

Two hour movie about a car accident

Yeah, you are. A very serious character portrait, warts and all. I found the shifting resemblance of actor Jason Clarke to the man himself paralleled one's ambivalent response to the unfolding details of the events themselves. And Bruce Dern was terrifying without grunting more than a few words. I found it fascinating....

yes, you are missing taste.

The Kennedy's are vile pigs but they have always been worshipped by Irish American journalists like Chris Matthews. Funny how these same Irish Americans shrieked and howled over Clinton's improprieties while deifying the scumbag Ted Kennedy. And as an earlier commenter pointed out, any liberal dem would have voted the way Kennedy did. I was happy when he expired, it should have happened sooner.

It's quite amazing to me that the 'Boiler Room Girls' to this day insist that there was no hanky panky going on that night. Wasn't there a purse in the submerged car that didn't belong to MJK? Maybe Kennedy and two girls were in the car and when that police officer spotted them they drove away and two got out of the car on foot and then MJK drove the car off the bridge.

R15 The girls were probably paid off to lie. But, some of their claims were disputed by neighbors who heard the noisy party and also the cop saw the two Lyons sisters and a man dancing the middle of the road.
Rosemary Keough was the woman whose purse was found in the car. She made a weird statement years later that 'Mary Jo was with the wrong people at the wrong time".

Their are so many Irish American scum journalists who worship the Kennedy's but shrieked hysterically during the Bill Clinton fiasco. Never mind what the Kennedy's did, particularly Ted, was far worse. MSNBC 's Matthews and NYT Maureen Dowd are two examples of Clinton hating Kennedy acolytes. Fucking hypocrites.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | September 13, 2018 4:45 AM |
Also, the Boiler Room girls probably kept quiet over the years for career and personal reasons. Esther Newberg is Caroline Kennedy's literary agent.

R2 The guys who wrote the movie said they wrote based off of Kennedy's statements and statements from the inquest. They said they didn't want to go down the conspiracy theory road.

Interesting that two of the biggest pieces of scum in politics McCain and Kennedy (who were also both worshipped by the mainstream media ) ,were both felled by brain tumors. It's like the rot eventually reached the brain. It's too bad they both lasted so long.

McCain like Kennedy treated his first wife like shit. There were rumors that he cheated on Cindy. I think now that McCain is dead more dirt on him will come out. Pill head Cindy and drunk Joan probably have a lot in common.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | September 13, 2018 5:42 AM |
R21 I hope that more comes out... I suspect we have heard only the tip of the iceberg. However, the media has always slobbered pathetically over McCain and covered up many of his misdeeds. If an honest account of the man is ever written, it probably won't be by the better known outlets like wapo and NYT.

Didn’t McCain serve the first Mrs. with divorce papers while she was in hospital with breast cancer? Or is that just bunk?
by Anonymous | reply 23 | September 13, 2018 5:58 AM |
R23 lol that was Newt Gingrich. McCain dumped his first wife for the druggie beer heiress after she raised their kids while he was a pow
by Anonymous | reply 24 | September 13, 2018 7:31 AM |
Thanks R24 for clarifying!
I had googled it after the post, and found while he didn’t serve her in hospital, he did propose while still married, got the license while still married, and married Cindy Lou about a month after the divorce. There was also a huge rift in the family over it -none of the first kids went to the wedding- for years. Now though seems the kids and the first wife chalk it up to his years as a POW and wanting to be young again. Whatever. He was still a vile, morally corrupt man.

I always thought the media felt sorry for McCain because of his years of being POW and they treated him kid gloves and misdeeds were avoided being discussed heavily.
The media did protect Ted Kennedy, but some outlets and journalists did question the Chappaquiddick incident. They were several books written on the case and when Ted ran for the Democratic nomination in 1980, Chappaquiddick was brought up and many people didn't ignore it.
The theory that Mary Jo was passed out in the backseat while Ted and another woman were in the front seat has gone around for years. In 2006, a blogger Sally Swift claimed that someone who was at the Chappaquiddick party said it that the p Mary Jo in the backseat rumor was true. People Magazine did a podcast on Chappaquiddick and the reporter who narrated the podcast said the second passenger/ backseat theory came up quite in her research and some sources close to the case believe it.

R25 McCain's two sons from the first marriage are adopted. I bet one of them will spill on him at some point. The two adopted sons and McCain's bio daughter from that marriage were kind of pushed aside at the funeral.
