"The Only Man Besides Philip that the Queen ever loved"

Patrick Plunket was one of the Queen's dearest friends and many in the Palace suspected she was in love with him. There are even rumours that Plunket is actually Prince Edward's biological father but it's unlikely as it's widely believed now that Plunket was gay.

He looks like the valet or whatever he was, on Downtown Abbey, especially around the eyes. I think that actor was gate in real life, too.

This is a better view of the Patrick Plunket memorial at Windsor that the Queen had built after he died in 1975. Apparently she still visits it regularly, and Plunket is one of the few non-royals buried at Windsor.

Is that the one they call Porchie?

by Anonymousreply 3May 4, 2018 3:29 PM

R3 No, Prochie was Lord Porchester who was the Queen's racing manager. If you watch the Crown Porchie is heavily featured in the first season of the show. Plunket was referred to in passing during the second season of the Crown but never seen on screen.

Having read some biographies on Elizabeth I don't know if she was "in" love with him but she did love him. She allegedly referred to him as something of an older brother as she had known him since they were both children. I think he filled something of a void in Elizabeth's life providing the emotional intimacy that may have been lacking in her marriage to Philip.

I’m sure he was a wonderful friend & confidant to a woman who probably doesn’t have many - but the article sells his only average looks waaaaaaay to hard.

by Anonymousreply 5May 4, 2018 3:53 PM

That memorial looks pretty cheap and shoddy.

by Anonymousreply 6May 4, 2018 4:00 PM

Porcine was Edward's father.

by Anonymousreply 7May 4, 2018 4:16 PM

^Porchie

by Anonymousreply 8May 4, 2018 4:21 PM

R7 No, no, Prochie has been rumoured to be Andrew's father and Plunket Edward's. That's all bull though, the Queen is too religious to screw around on Philip.

by Anonymousreply 9May 4, 2018 4:23 PM

It appears this fellow was a bit light in the loafers.

by Anonymousreply 10May 4, 2018 4:25 PM

Did her majesty buy that memorial as-is, off the curb at a local Home Depot?

by Anonymousreply 11May 4, 2018 4:29 PM

Liarn she loved me, physically

by Anonymousreply 12May 4, 2018 4:29 PM

Plunket was orphaned in his teens, and I don’t think it’s too much of a stretch to imagine that The Queen saw in him he same tyo e of vulnerability that people saw in her father. Like George VI, he also died young, which I imagine made the comparison even more painful for her. I don’t doubt that these two events made HM feel inclined to give the man a dignified burial in a place which was meaningful to her.

Phillip is also a homosexual so there is no problem with that (making babies, that is). It is believed that neither Andrew nor Edward are Phillip's.

by Anonymousreply 14May 4, 2018 4:36 PM

Phillip's gay?!?!? That's certainly one I've never heard. How do you know this, R14?

by Anonymousreply 15May 4, 2018 4:40 PM

R15 I would give you more credit if you actually spelled Philip's name correctly.

by Anonymousreply 16May 4, 2018 4:42 PM

I feel badly that the Queen has lost so many of her oldest friends at this point.

by Anonymousreply 17May 4, 2018 4:42 PM

R17 Yes, it's so sad when you're 92 and ring up people for a grammar school reunion.

by Anonymousreply 18May 4, 2018 4:52 PM

Liver cancer? Wonder what she might have thought or done had he died of AIDS.

by Anonymousreply 19May 4, 2018 4:53 PM

R19 I'm sure an number of the royal staff died from AIDS.

by Anonymousreply 20May 4, 2018 5:39 PM

Yeah, I'd heard the stories about Porchy but not this dude.

by Anonymousreply 21May 4, 2018 6:37 PM

He looks a lot like Karl Malden, that one.

by Anonymousreply 22May 4, 2018 7:02 PM

Damn, Philip was a hot piece in his youth.

According to Kitty Kelly's book"The Royals", on the honeymoon homosexual Philip complained that sizemologist Elizabeth would not leave him alone .
