Worst "Serious" Actress of All Time

Who is considered a legitimate Actress but is horrible in all their roles?

I say Sarah Jessica Parker.

by Anonymousreply 245December 8, 2019 7:42 PM

SJP isn't all that bad, at least next to Andie MacDowell. Pieces of wood go to her for lessons on how to be dry and stiff. Styrofoam goes to her to learn how to be more plastic and insubstantial . White rice goes to her to learn how to be bland.

by Anonymousreply 1April 23, 2018 6:42 AM

R1 she worked in Groundhog Day

by Anonymousreply 2April 23, 2018 6:43 AM

For me, a legitimate serious actress would have to be someone who has been nominated or even won awards. Like Hilary Swank, who I consider the epitome of one note acting.

by Anonymousreply 3April 23, 2018 6:53 AM

I can't believe she's 51 in that photo, OP.

by Anonymousreply 4April 23, 2018 6:58 AM

The Groundhog gave a better performance.

Madonna would've been huge if she'd been around during the silent era.

by Anonymousreply 8April 23, 2018 7:16 AM

Wow. R8 may be joking but they're right. She has the face of a silent film vamp.

by Anonymousreply 9April 23, 2018 7:26 AM

I don't think Madonna counts. No one has ever considered her a serious actress excet herself.

by Anonymousreply 10April 23, 2018 7:33 AM

You know who.

R11 / R12 I know you Cunts are talking about me, count my Oscar wins and nominations. I'm still doing feature film work. When was the last time you two opened in the Top 10? 102 Dalmatians and/or Big Fish...15+ years ago?

I wasn't joking about Madonna. I really do think she would've been huge in silent movies.

by Anonymousreply 17April 23, 2018 3:27 PM

Pia Zadora.

by Anonymousreply 18April 23, 2018 3:28 PM

When was the last time you had a hit that wasn't a glorified ABBA karaoke night, R13?

by Anonymousreply 19April 23, 2018 3:30 PM

Demi Moore

by Anonymousreply 20April 23, 2018 3:35 PM

All three of Tom Cruise's Ex Wives. They weren't particularly convincing as the foot stool role.

by Anonymousreply 21April 23, 2018 3:50 PM

Mia Wasikowska. After seeing the highly disappointing “Crimson Peak” I thought to myself, “man that dull milquetoast girl looks familiar.” After looking at her IMDb page I realized I’ve seen her in half a dozen movies but she was so unmemorable in all of them I plum forgot.

by Anonymousreply 22April 23, 2018 4:28 PM

Poor Barbra Streisand. Great voice, very funny in her early comedy roles, but then she wanted to be a "serious" actress and only do "issue movies." Turned herself into a joke. She's not a very good serious actress. Same with Bette Midler. I'm kinda glad her GYPSY movie died, because I'm picturing it being about as bad as the Midler version with Streisand being appealing for the first 90 minutes and then falling apart when she's asked to be more serious in the later half of the story.

by Anonymousreply 23April 23, 2018 4:34 PM

Watching Julie Andrews in anything as a lucid adult in 2018 feels like getting gay-bashed with a giant candy cane.

Well, he's not particularly convincing as a heterosexual.

by Anonymousreply 28April 23, 2018 4:39 PM

the mention of Harvey reminded me of another bland ass actress who thought she was all that and isn't - Goop

by Anonymousreply 29April 23, 2018 4:41 PM

Q: No one considers Jennifer Anuston a serious actress, do they?

A: Yes, a seriously bad one.

by Anonymousreply 30April 23, 2018 4:43 PM

WTF R30 -- no. No one does, and your hostility is weirdly out of place.

by Anonymousreply 31April 23, 2018 4:49 PM

In DataLounge? This is not FluffyBunnyLounge, R31.

by Anonymousreply 32April 23, 2018 4:51 PM

So funny, R8, I was going to say, Madonna looks gorgeous but I HATE her fake Noo Yawk goil accent (which she continued to use in interviews, I remember).

by Anonymousreply 33April 23, 2018 4:52 PM

They're proposing the FluffyBunnyLounge over at that other thread, R31. You get to pay to lay eggs.

by Anonymousreply 34April 23, 2018 4:53 PM

Worst “legitimate” actress...that’s tough, but I’d go with Gwyneth Paltrow. Even sucking all that HW dick couldn’t get her decent acting instruction.

by Anonymousreply 35April 23, 2018 4:54 PM

Andie MacDowell is one of those odd actresses who was just right in a couple parts, like Sex Lies & Videotape and Groundhog Day, but often was stiff and awkward.

by Anonymousreply 36April 23, 2018 4:55 PM

I love her but Sigourmey Weaver is pretty stiff in everything.

by Anonymousreply 40April 23, 2018 4:57 PM

It was still a fetid piece of self-congratulatory crap, R39. I'm glad Frances McDormand won the Best Actress Oscar even though I was rooting for Margot Robbie.

by Anonymousreply 41April 23, 2018 5:02 PM

Sally Kellerman

But...I'm hugely entertained by her hamminess. She was a hoot as Jodie Foster's mom in "Foxes"

by Anonymousreply 42April 23, 2018 5:12 PM

Natalie Wood. Overwrought and amateurish at the same time.

Jodie Foster. Wooden beyond belief.

Judi Dench. Another veddy proper RADA-type actress who is extremely one-dimensional.

by Anonymousreply 43April 23, 2018 5:14 PM

R1, I thought Andie Mcdowell was good in Robert Altman's Short Cuts.

by Anonymousreply 44April 23, 2018 5:16 PM

[quote]Judi Dench. Another veddy proper RADA-type actress who is extremely one-dimensional.

She and Air Supply's Russell Hitchcock are actually the same person.

by Anonymousreply 45April 23, 2018 5:16 PM

I agree with R16. Saw that piece of crap Mother and the part where everyone broke in the house and she's breathlessly yelling "Get out of my house " made me cringe.

She also made me cringe in Silver Linings Playbook. She must have swallowed a gallon of Weinstein cum to get that Oscar.

by Anonymousreply 46April 23, 2018 5:18 PM

If there was a book about how Weinstein sleazed his way to Oscar gold, it should be called "Fool's Gold: How Miramax Took Over The Oscars".

by Anonymousreply 47April 23, 2018 5:19 PM

Natalie Portman--how is she considered a "serious" actress by the industry???? All she does is cry in all her movies.

by Anonymousreply 48April 23, 2018 5:20 PM

Another vote for Jodie Foster. Tight-lipped, tight-jawed, no range, conveys fear or uncertainty or discomfort or confusion by saying her lines breathlessly and then sucking in some air, dead-eyed, a piece of driftwood.

Don't know if Demi Moore fits into this category, but she's another one. She does a similar thing to Jodie where she will jut out her chin when confronted with any kind of negative situation, or one in which she wants to convey indignance.

by Anonymousreply 49April 23, 2018 5:20 PM

Norma Shearer. Her Juliet is impossible to forget -- no matter how hard you try.

by Anonymousreply 50April 23, 2018 5:23 PM

Melanie Griffith. I will forever be mystified by her Best Actress nom for Working Girl.

by Anonymousreply 51April 23, 2018 5:28 PM

R51, she is great in Body Double and Something Wild. She's so good in Something in Wild that Madonna tried to recreate that role in Who's That Girl.

by Anonymousreply 52April 23, 2018 5:32 PM

I was going to say Melanie, R51, but I don't think she was ever considered 'serious.' I see her more in the Rom/Com Kate Hudson vein of actresses who are exceptionally watchable and very good at playing themselves. She was better than Kate, but never serious.

by Anonymousreply 53April 23, 2018 5:33 PM

Joan Crawford

Miriam Hopkins

Faye Dunaway

by Anonymousreply 54April 23, 2018 5:41 PM

Don't forget Audrey Hepburn. all she could do is stand in the frame with her hips thrust forward and her feets splayed in the first position while she whined in flutey nasal tone that never varied

by Anonymousreply 55April 23, 2018 5:42 PM

True r47. I have wondered if maybe the Hollywood elite didn't help the whole me too thing along in hopes of getting rid of Harvey and his strangle hold on the Oscars. Once he got his hands on Miramax that was the death of the variety in well done small films. I haven't liked any of the actresses he forced on us either, all of them are forgettable. He's got horrible taste in talent. He did his business like a mafia boss, people on all levels were afraid of him. I hope excellent smaller films have a rebirth now that he's gone.

by Anonymousreply 56April 23, 2018 5:43 PM

Okay 55 say what you want but I still love watching her, hard to take your eyes off her.

by Anonymousreply 57April 23, 2018 5:45 PM

Greer Garson is reaching out of the grave to grab this award!

Seriously, how can you bitches have forgotten her smugness, asexuality, and humorlessness? And all the praise that was heaped on her during her too-long heyday?

Bitch was like Maggie Smith's alternate-universe opposite, vaguely resembling Maggie, but lacking everything that makes Maggie so great to watch.

by Anonymousreply 58April 23, 2018 5:47 PM

Easy. Keira Knightley . Most of the actresses mentioned above have been good in at least a few roles, but Keira Knightley is bad in everything. And she's been given a lot of good roles.

by Anonymousreply 59April 23, 2018 5:54 PM

Not anywhere in the deepest reaches of the darkest recesses of the universe would Sarah Jessica Parker ever, EVER be considered a serious actress, OP.

by Anonymousreply 60April 23, 2018 5:58 PM

SJP was good early in her career. The whole SATC bullshit ruined her acting. Now every role is Carrie Bradshaw (even when u see her acting very hard to not be

Agree with Gwyneth and Julia Roberts. Both one note actors. Julia Roberts is particularly annoying with that horse laugh.

by Anonymousreply 61April 23, 2018 5:59 PM

[quote]Julia Roberts is particularly annoying with that horse laugh.

It matches her face.

by Anonymousreply 62April 23, 2018 6:05 PM

After reading a lot of these suggestions, I'd have to agree with Julia Roberts as the winner. You always know it's her in the role, always.

by Anonymousreply 63April 23, 2018 6:08 PM

Julia Roberts is a move star, of course you always know it's her in every role, that's what she is paid for. It's the same thing with Harrison Ford and many others. Within the realm of her acting range, Julia does just fine, she's rarely inauthentic, doesn't make cliched choices, has a solid emotional accessiblity and has been moving in some performances. For what she does and what she's paid to do, she does just fine.

by Anonymousreply 64April 23, 2018 6:12 PM

Keira Knightley. IKEA tables have given less wooden and more charismatic performances.

THREAD CLOSED.

by Anonymousreply 65April 23, 2018 6:13 PM

Even I'm not that wooden.

by Anonymousreply 66April 23, 2018 6:17 PM

R64, there is a difference, clearly, between a movie star and a serious actor. A serious actor, imo, is immersed in a role to the point where he is unrecognizable. This never happens with Julia.

by Anonymousreply 67April 23, 2018 6:18 PM

[quote]Norma Shearer. Her Juliet is impossible to forget -- no matter how hard you try.

You're entitled to your opinion, R50, but I think you're wrong. Shockingly wrong!

by Anonymousreply 73April 23, 2018 6:45 PM

Definitely Jennifer Lawrence.

by Anonymousreply 74April 23, 2018 6:47 PM

Which is why she is not considered a serious actress, R73. Why defend her on that basis (movie star) when discussing her acting abilities? She has none. But she does have charisma!

Rula was the vampire of my dreams in the 70's. I was so jealous of her full, thick mane and that exotic accent.

by Anonymousreply 84April 23, 2018 7:36 PM

Rula was so glamorous. People were always rushing to hand her flowers as she stepped off airplanes.

Eleanor Parker. Just awful. That wheezing breathiness masquerading as emotion.

by Anonymousreply 88April 23, 2018 7:54 PM

Vera Hrubá Ralston's "talent"was extremely limited. That's why she married the head of the studio, who was 40 years her senior and left his wife and children for her. She got leads until he retired. A girl has to do what a girl has to do, I guess.

by Anonymousreply 89April 23, 2018 8:00 PM

[86]: I adore you for remembering.

by Anonymousreply 90April 23, 2018 8:01 PM

R86, What am I, chopped liver?

by Anonymousreply 91April 23, 2018 8:04 PM

Vera Hruba Ralston was not a "serious" actress, she was a figure skater who married the head of the lowest-budget, least-respected studio in Hollywood! She was regarded as a joke in her day, and ever after.

Greer Garson was taken very, very seriously in her day, for some reason. Same for Ikea Knightley during the last ten years.

by Anonymousreply 92April 23, 2018 8:10 PM

I just watched Pride and Prejudice again and ugh, Keira Knightley’s wig is just atrocious! But even worse, she really is very stiff. All she does is sort of pull her lips back from from her bottom teeth. The woman who plays Cersei on Game of thrones does this too, but to sinister effect.

by Anonymousreply 93April 23, 2018 8:12 PM

If you turn the sound off of the Kiera Knightly version of "Pride and Prejudice", it suddenly looks like a teen boy in drag is playing Lizzie Bennett.

The more you know about that period, the worse that movie becomes!

by Anonymousreply 94April 23, 2018 8:19 PM

Actually Republic was far from the worst of the old Hollywood studios, R92. It was considered the best of the "poverty row" studios, a term you can google. Republic turned out many excellent westerns over the years. It was home to John Wayne during the first half of his career and occasionally John Ford. Sometimes they even managed to turn out a true quality film like A Quiet Man. There were many much worse studios.

by Anonymousreply 95April 23, 2018 8:26 PM

I cannot think of a lousier actress than Nicole Kidman!

She's an empty cipher in EVERYTHING!

Even compared to EVERY other actress here I think she's FAR SHITTIER!

by Anonymousreply 96April 23, 2018 8:33 PM

I have a soft spot in my heart for Greer Garson. I absolutely adored Mrs. Miniver. I managed to track down the sequel to it, called The Miniver Story, and I loved it, too. I cried my eyes out. They managed to get everyone back for it except for the actor that played her son. Greer was married to him IRL, but they divorced before the sequel, and it was not a happy parting. I remember the lingering, on-the-mouth kisses she gave him during Mrs. Miniver. Awkward!

by Anonymousreply 99April 23, 2018 9:47 PM

R38 is correct.

by Anonymousreply 100April 23, 2018 10:26 PM

There are a lot of terrible actors. I've always wondered how the hell they keep getting parts when it is obvious they can't act.

by Anonymousreply 101April 23, 2018 10:52 PM

What? No mentions of Kristin Stewart, Megan Fox, or Tara Reid?

by Anonymousreply 102April 23, 2018 11:16 PM

R102, Kristen has done some excellent work. Nobody would consider the other two to be serious actors.

by Anonymousreply 103April 23, 2018 11:18 PM

Are you considered a serious actor if you appeared on Melrose Place?

by Anonymousreply 104April 23, 2018 11:19 PM

Joan Crawford is the worst "serious" of all time. She did mostly dramas and melodramas and she seriously sucked balls. Hysterically bad work with Jekyll and Hide contortions required for her to change expression.

by Anonymousreply 105April 23, 2018 11:50 PM

[quote][R102], Kristen has done some excellent work.

I thought she was pretty bad in The Clouds of Sils Maria and that was lauded as her best work.

by Anonymousreply 106April 23, 2018 11:57 PM

Susan Hayward

by Anonymousreply 107April 24, 2018 12:01 AM

I agree with R105, Joan was bad camp in everything she did. I think Gloria Swanson was using her as inspiration in Sunset Boulevard.

Anyone who's seen Keira Knightley in "A Dangerous Method" knows the definitive response to this thread.

Julianne Moore. Seriously.

by Anonymousreply 111April 24, 2018 1:36 AM

Demi Moore sucks also.

by Anonymousreply 112April 24, 2018 2:01 AM

by Anonymousreply 113April 24, 2018 2:11 AM

I'd go with Lana Turner.

by Anonymousreply 114April 24, 2018 2:16 AM

Others who deserve mention:

Anne Baxter

Kim Novak

Julia Roberts

Winona Ryder

That's not to say all of these women are incapable of being affecting onscreen. But none of them can act worth a damn.

by Anonymousreply 115April 24, 2018 2:24 AM

I have nothing to add other than that is an absolutely horrific pic of SJP at OP.

by Anonymousreply 116April 24, 2018 2:29 AM

[quote]R43 Natalie Wood. Overwrought and amateurish at the same time.

Agreed.

Elizabeth Taylor is fairly wretched in almost everything, too...with a few exceptions.

I definitely co-sign the people that said Lawrence and Portman. Portman's line readings are always totally artificial sounding.

by Anonymousreply 118April 24, 2018 2:52 AM

Back when she was a serious contender-- Winona Ryder. I never understood why my peers were so in awe of her.

by Anonymousreply 119April 24, 2018 2:54 AM

R115, I'm going to kick Kim Novak off your list, just because of "Vertigo". She was astonishingly good there, in a very complex role.

Other than that, though, yeah. She was a pretty terrible actress, but she got it right once!

by Anonymousreply 120April 24, 2018 9:41 PM

Harris Glenn Milstead, also known as Divine.

Bitch was a total ham.

by Anonymousreply 121April 24, 2018 9:46 PM

SJP is more known as a comedic actor than a dramatic actor.

by Anonymousreply 122April 24, 2018 10:01 PM

R119, she's very good in Heather's but her only good role after that is in Stranger Things, literally almost thirty years later. Her worst acting is in Dracula and Age of Innocence. She should sign a contract never to star in anything before the 70s. I actually think both she and Michelle are miscast in Age of innocence, just one reason I dont like that movie.

by Anonymousreply 123April 24, 2018 10:12 PM

Jane Russell.

R76, Rula Lenska, like Elsa Clench, get a pass for their cool name alone...

by Anonymousreply 124April 24, 2018 10:29 PM

I never understood Winona’s appeal, either.

by Anonymousreply 125April 29, 2018 8:53 AM

Michelle Pfeiffer and Keira Knightley. Both are more interested in doing pretty faces for the camera than acting. Keira pouting her mouth, doing annoying things with her nose, and playing the charming little girl, and Michelle pouting and giving intense stares like a porn actress playing for the camera.

by Anonymousreply 126April 29, 2018 9:43 AM

Knightly's performance in Pride and Prejudice is one of the worst I've ever seen. She spent the entire film with a bemused smirk on her face, something which Jennifer Ehle's Elizabeth Bennett had done to great effect on occasion in the '90s BBC version, but not for the entire film.

by Anonymousreply 127April 29, 2018 10:40 AM

Dishonorable mention: Meg Ryan in Restoration, hurly burly, in the cut, etc

by Anonymousreply 128April 29, 2018 12:25 PM

I think I'm the only DLer that likes JLaw. She blew me away in Winter's Bone.

by Anonymousreply 129April 29, 2018 12:41 PM

Keira Knightley was great in Pride & Prejudice. Completely sold it to me. Jennifer Ehle being homely doesn’t make her better. R129 I love JLaw in Silver Linings Playbook.

by Anonymousreply 130April 29, 2018 12:51 PM

The fact that Kristen Stewart was lauded by critics (and received awards for) her not-terrible but otherwise unremarkable performance in 'Clouds of Sils Maria' says it all: they were shocked that she could give a halfway decent performance in a not-very-challenging role.

by Anonymousreply 131April 29, 2018 1:01 PM

Greer Garson is profoundly dreadful in Mrs. Miniver.

Kiera Knightly has the most irritating vocal inflections ever - especially in Pride and Prejudice. In fact her performance in P&P makes Cybill Shepherd's performance in Daisy Miller seem like the work of a great thespian.

Zooey Deschanel can't even play herself in interviews.

And I can't say this enough:

Isabelle Adjani is awful.

by Anonymousreply 132April 29, 2018 1:14 PM

Kristen Stewart is a terrific actress. She’s moody, well there really are people like that. It doesn’t make her any less alive as an actress, you just don’t like that.

by Anonymousreply 133April 30, 2018 5:32 AM

Kristen Stewart is a lousy actress. Wooden and ineffective. She makes Jodie Foster look like Vivien Leigh.

Natalie Wood was another awful dramatic actress.

by Anonymousreply 134April 30, 2018 11:35 PM

Stewart has awful acting ticks that make her hard to watch.

by Anonymousreply 137October 23, 2018 5:01 AM

Kristen Stewart is laughably bad. Keira Knightly is wooden.

by Anonymousreply 138October 23, 2018 5:02 AM

Viola sucks on her show. Too busy trying to turn homely and black as night into something sexual

by Anonymousreply 140October 23, 2018 5:07 AM

Lol about black as night. I’m not saying it can’t beautiful, viola’s just not beautiful

Keira Knightley was charming in the first Pirates movie and awful in everything after that.

by Anonymousreply 145October 23, 2018 8:21 PM

Katie Holmes, all day everyday. Miley Cryus too.

by Anonymousreply 146October 23, 2018 8:37 PM

Isabelle Adjani

by Anonymousreply 147October 23, 2018 8:48 PM

Charlize Theron, who was one of the most beautiful women alive when she was young, has always been terrible.

by Anonymousreply 148October 23, 2018 8:49 PM

It’s strange how our impressions can change over time.

I used to think Allison Elliot was the weak link in THE WINGS OF THE DOVE (1997)...and that she was fake-y.

Rewatching the film years later, she doesn’t bother me.

"It was still a fetid piece of self-congratulatory crap, R39. I'm glad Frances McDormand won the Best Actress Oscar even though I was rooting for Margot Robbie."

?????? Who thinks Margot Robbie is a better actress than Frances McDormand?

by Anonymousreply 152November 26, 2019 4:18 PM

Angelina Jolie, anyone? Her only award-worthy performance was The Changeling. I don't understand her box offices. She's more a publicist than an actress.

by Anonymousreply 153November 26, 2019 4:21 PM

I for one, think that Viola Davis is better looking when she is plumper.

by Anonymousreply 154November 26, 2019 4:22 PM

Jennifer Lawrence is totally overrated. A product that Weinstain tried to sold as the new hot Meryl Streep. I think the best part of her career is already over, she doesn't have her godfather anymore. And I think she is nice, don't get me wrong. Not saying this because I dislike her or something

by Anonymousreply 155November 26, 2019 4:25 PM

"Not saying this because I dislike her or something"

Sure sounds like you do. For some reason DLers have it in for her, even though she's been giving good performances since she was 18 (Winter's Bone)

by Anonymousreply 156November 26, 2019 4:33 PM

R156 No, I don't. I can give you that, she was fine in Winter's Bone and American Hustle, but that doesn't make her the kind of super talented actress Hollywood tried to sell us for a few years. OK, she's not the worst but Def not one of the tops. Emma Stone, on the other hand, proved me a lot in The Fauvorite.

by Anonymousreply 157November 26, 2019 4:39 PM

I adore Barbara Stanwyck, but she really didn’t hit her stride until the late thirties. She was awful in some of her earlier movies. Guess it was just a lack of experience in front of the cameras.

Greer Garson was terrible. Leonard Maltin said it best - all poise but no grace. And she wasn’t very photogenic. Close set eyes and those NOSTRILS.

by Anonymousreply 158November 26, 2019 4:47 PM

Easily the worst actress of all time is Ali McGraw. When I see her old films from Goodbye Columbus (which was funny) to Love Story and others- well, she's just awful. That said- on chat shows and in interviews she is a lovely woman, smart, creative and beautiful- still.

by Anonymousreply 159November 26, 2019 4:47 PM

Lana Turner. Iconically beautiful, but a genuinely terrible actress.

by Anonymousreply 160November 26, 2019 5:02 PM

Okay, r159 wins. McGraw must be the worst actress to ever get an Oscar nomination.

by Anonymousreply 161November 26, 2019 5:04 PM

Geraldine Page and Diane Ladd.

These "serious" actresses full of ticks and methods and "watch me act" mannerisms are terrible in all of their performances.

Well they each gave only ONE performance - they just did it in several movies.....

by Anonymousreply 162November 26, 2019 5:07 PM

EMMA FUCKING WATSON I just can't stand her. She has made me hate movies that were good just because her performance. I think the most overrated actress today. In my opinion is an insult for actors like Saoirse Ronan or Chalamet in Little Women to share screen time with her like they had a seemingly talent.

by Anonymousreply 163November 26, 2019 5:07 PM

Only a datalounger would think that Chalamet was miles ahead of Watson in the acting department

by Anonymousreply 164November 26, 2019 5:09 PM

R164 Really bitch? You can dislike Chalamet, but honestly you can't say he is as bad actor as Emma Watson. You just can't. Emma's talent is just unexisting.

by Anonymousreply 165November 26, 2019 5:13 PM

Emma Watson owns this thread

by Anonymousreply 166November 26, 2019 5:18 PM

R1, McDowell worked in Short Cuts as well. I thought she did a good job.

by Anonymousreply 167November 26, 2019 5:19 PM

R115, Anne Baxter is part of the reason I don't think All About Eve is a classic on the level of Sunset Boulevard--who in their right mind would believe that Anne Baxter is a threat to Bette Davis?

by Anonymousreply 168November 26, 2019 5:27 PM

Another vote for Natalie Portman. Very bland.

by Anonymousreply 169November 26, 2019 5:43 PM

R166 that one. For God's shake, they even offered her to star La La Land. What do Hollywood see in her?

by Anonymousreply 170November 26, 2019 5:48 PM

I always found Baxter to be stubby looking, with short arms and a nonexistent neck. They picked her for the role of Eve because she resembled the original choice for Margo Channing, Miss Claudette Colbert. She too was odd looking, short and neckless.

by Anonymousreply 171November 26, 2019 5:52 PM

Emma Watson is truly awful.

Surprised to see so much GOOP hate in this thread. Usually DLers agree that she’s a pretentious cunt but a really good actress. I personally love her.

by Anonymousreply 172November 26, 2019 5:54 PM

GOOP isn't really much better than Emma Watson.

by Anonymousreply 173November 26, 2019 5:55 PM

I like Gwyneth, just adorable and perfect in "Emma". One vote more for Emma Watson, I never liked since Harry Potter, which I think is her only acceptable role in her career.

by Anonymousreply 174November 26, 2019 6:10 PM

Salma Hayek.

by Anonymousreply 175November 26, 2019 6:12 PM

While I agree that Garson quickly petrified into a Great Lady, I saw her in the 1939 Goodbye, Mr. Chips with Oscar-winner Robert Donat on TCM last night, and thought she was lovely—funny, charming—and the pairing of her with Donat was genuinely sweet not saccharine.

by Anonymousreply 176November 26, 2019 6:15 PM

Can't just someone make a poll between Emma W, Jennifer Lawrence, Gwyneth, Angelina and the rest mentioned in here?

by Anonymousreply 177November 26, 2019 6:15 PM

DEBRA WINGER!!!

Yuck. Ugh. Gag. Barf.

by Anonymousreply 178November 26, 2019 6:20 PM

Goop once was a good actress, but she hasn't acted in years. She just strides through all those Iron man and Avengers movies being annoying, phoning it in . She didn't want to be an actor: she wanted to be an influencer.

by Anonymousreply 179November 26, 2019 6:20 PM

Demi Moore

by Anonymousreply 180November 26, 2019 6:21 PM

by Anonymousreply 181November 27, 2019 4:46 PM

The thing about my wife SJP is she may not be a great actress, but like Lana Turner, she makes up for it in beauty.

Imagine waking up to THAT every morning!

by Anonymousreply 182November 27, 2019 4:50 PM

Lana Turner was superficially pretty and was very glamorous. Not toe curling beauty like Ava Gardner or Hedy Lamarr.

by Anonymousreply 183November 27, 2019 4:54 PM

Elizabeth McGovern.

by Anonymousreply 184November 27, 2019 4:58 PM

Even in her "serious" roles like Peyton Place, I never found Lana to be better than just okay

by Anonymousreply 185November 27, 2019 5:17 PM

Has anyone seen Cameron Diaz in Gangs of New York? She should have received a Golden Raspberry for that performance.

by Anonymousreply 186November 27, 2019 5:21 PM

I'm kind of amazed at how quickly SJP went from very attractive to horse-faced. That has to be a record, even Lindsay Lohan took a while to really look 45. SJP was hot in Hocus Pocus, LA Story and The First Wives Club and then became hideous by Season 2 or 3 of Sex and the City. I think a lot of people would be genuinely shocked to find out that SJP was at one point very attractive.

Elizabeth Banks Angelina Jolie

by Anonymousreply 217December 1, 2019 12:11 AM

R215, the Oscars nominations and awards are ridiculous (at least) 50% of the time.

by Anonymousreply 218December 1, 2019 12:12 AM

Mandy Moore is awful in serious TV and movie roles.I was surprised when she got an Emmy nomination this past year.

by Anonymousreply 219December 1, 2019 12:31 AM

Despite all of her self promotion, does anyone actually consider JLo a serious actress? Portman is the worst. She doesn't act as much as pretend to portray emotions that she imagines real people might have.

by Anonymousreply 220December 1, 2019 5:18 AM

It's an unpopular opinion here, but not in the real world. Sally Fucking Field. She sucks balls.

Judith Light is the textbook definition of overrated. Now she has two of the worst TV shows ever to her name. Whoever told her she could act was just being polite.

It was her sister, Crystal, who had all the talent, looks, and personality. At least she did before the “accident.”

Rachel McAdams should stick to light comedy. Her Oscar nomination was a joke. She gets a lot of credit because she’s the kind of woman that straight men imagine marrying but she’s quite mediocre.

by Anonymousreply 233December 3, 2019 2:05 PM

R233 McAdams sucks at accents (see A Most Wanted Man or that lesbian movie with Rachel Weisz) but I do really like her as an actress. I do think she should be getting more comedy roles because she’s an excellent comic actor.

by Anonymousreply 234December 3, 2019 2:11 PM

R234 Through no plan of my own, I saw State Of Play, The Time Traveller’s Wife, Midnight In Paris and Spotlight on successive days. She was a nonentity in the latter 3 with her Oscar nomination being truly bizarre but was quite awful in State Of Play. Her line readings were unbelievable to the extent she sounded like a teenage girl, and Russell Crowe had to carry the weight of their scenes.

The lesbian movie with Rachel Weisz is a case in point. She was cast as an ultra-Orthodox North London Jew (!) at the behest of the director. She is creamy and sweet and pretty and a fantasy figure for men.

by Anonymousreply 235December 3, 2019 4:15 PM
