I know she's a bit of a DL icon but there must be some good stories on her..
Any thoughts on the undisputed star of DOOL for over 40 years? Why did she stay so long in soap?

Dierdre also is ten years younger than her official age, she matured quickly and couldn't get cast in age appropriate rolls so her agent told her to add ten years to her age, it also got her around restricitions on work hours.

She plays a great grandmother on Days and it's absurd. She's 55ish in real life and gorgeous. Her co-star Drake's wife HATES her with a passion. Dee is the Den mother of the Days set. Her younger co-stars go to her when t hey want things done.

R18 Don't forget the time with her Satan storyline she sent over FIVE THOUSAND TAPES of her scenes to every single contract player on every single soap. Plus to every single recurring actor and even the extras!
All to win the Emmy and to add insult to injury, she didn't even get nominated.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | April 23, 2018 11:30 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 20 | April 23, 2018 11:31 PM |
Bi leaning lez. Former carpet cleaners include Morgan Fairchild, Loni Anderson, Jane Elliot. Has a major power trip. The new hot young studs on the show have to sleep with her if they want to keep their jobs. Bible thumper Austin Peck was supposedly one of them. She stayed in soaps so long cause that's where she belongs. She had mild success in prime time with Our House but it wasn't her vehicle and she didn't have enough pull to in that area to breakout.
She's smart tho and at least realized it and was the cream of the crop on her show. For years she had a pay or play contract, probably was first up for taping scenes so she could be done and on with her day and has had a very comfortable life.

So get ready- YEARS ago I met her co star from the 70s - Jean Bruce Scott of Airwolf fame and she had great stories of Dee. She was a terror back in the day. Would always play super shifty games during scenes to maximize her lighting. Would sit during scenes when not rehearsed so she could look up and get the better lighting. Take her shoes off. Lots of little tricks. Drove the directors nuts. Also apparently had an on set affair with Quinn Redeker back in the day. Fucked in dressing rooms.

You do realize the Emmys are not like the Academy Awards where all members vote. The entire Emmy process is done by a very small panel of voters, so even if you story were true, and it's not, it would be useless.

Try again sweetie, Dee was trying to score a nomination. and contract players of all soaps (back then) fill out a ballot listing the their top five choices in each acting category. Dee sent out the tapes (over 5 thousand) to every contract player on every soap hoping they would vote for her in the nomination phase. They didn't/.

A gas leak nearly killed them both. John was just about to marry Susan Banks, Kristen's crazy buck toothed hillbilly imposter. Kristen wants to rush John into marriage. R67 She was in several of the nudie mags back in the latter part of the 60s and often on the covers as well. One of the magazines was the June 1967 issue of Modern Men. She used the name "Heidi Dorrington" for that pictorial. Some of the other names she used were "Holly Debson" and "Deborah Ryder".
In the 80s and 90s, Celebrity Sleuth magazine reprinted her old nudies and this supposedly really pissed her off.

As Dee and the main cast were leaving to go back to work, she went over to the extra table and told them "Just so you know, that party is not meant for any of you." and walked away.

She really hasn't given a good performance since 1987 or so, when her face first started to immobilize and her acting became increasingly stiff and mannered. But some of her work before then was much more spontaneous and genuine, even earning three Emmy noms - Best Supporting in 1980 and Best Actress in 1984 & 1985.

by Anonymous | reply 73 | April 25, 2018 6:38 PM |
The mess with Dee and the fan.
"An unusually nasty feud between fading soap-star Deidre Hall and the president of her fan club has landed in federal court.
The former “Days of Our Lives” diva is suing her once-adoring No. 1 fan to get the rights to her Website, diedrehall.com — but the fan club president is say´ÿ ing not until the actress ÿ comes up with $17,000 in money she’s owed.
The dispute goes much deeper than a haggle over a few thousands dollars and a URL.
It is the kind of tale you can find only in Hollywood.
In the complaint, Hall — who was dropped from “Days” in 2008 after 29 years as the show’s leading lady — accuses fan-club president Cathleen Paradis, 45, for “unauthorized exploitation” of her likeness and using her Web site to sell “private photographs of [Hall] and her minor children.”
The soap-opera diva is asking for unspecified monetary damages as well as possession of various domains, including deidre-hall.com — which Paradis insists she paid for and created with Hall’s blessing.
According to Paradis, an unemployed Web designer from of Newlington, Conn., the drama began two years ago, after she’d spent months acting as Hall’s defacto personal assistant.
“I submitted the bill for it, and she didn’t want to pay,” Paradis told the Post yesterday.
“I was very loyal and dedicated for a lot of years. But you have to draw a line in the sand at some point. I had bills to pay. I couldn’t just keep using all of my time doing everything she wanted and expect the tooth fairy to pay my rent.”
Hall’s lawsuit says her fan “voluntarily assisted” her.
But Paradis says her duties included scanning more than 6,000 photos into a computer data base for her and creating video presentations for managers and agents.
“She even asked me to retouch pictures of her and her children for the annual Christmas card,” Paradis says, “to make her kids look better and her youngest son look thinner."
Paradis says she first met the soap star about 15 years ago, while editing an unofficial fan Web site.
The pair became friends, then developed a casual working relationship when Paradis moved to LA to be closer to her idol.
Paradis moved back home to Connecticut when the relationship went sour.
“I haven’t heard from her in over a year and a half, and all of a sudden this pops up,” she says.
Paradis maintains that she purchased the domain before moving to LA.
“I did it all with her permission. I was never paid to run the Web site or the fan club, or any of that. She always considered that a gray area.”
by Anonymous | reply 74 | April 25, 2018 6:46 PM |

Do you think Dee was jealous of the 'serious' soap queens from the '80s like Slezak and Zimmer who always seemed to win and get nominations? Even Lucci who never won usually got a nom every year, but Dee never did. She was certainly considered a peer of those actresses, yet she never got any respect, acting wise.

by Anonymous | reply 95 | May 1, 2018 11:30 AM |
Dee's stuffing the ballot box month after month for the Daytime TV magazine poll and the Soap Opera Digest Soapy Awards was a big turn off to her peers. But - Dee was a genius. She activated her fans to buy up to TEN Daytime Tv mags a month and vote for her. She would send letters stating all efforts to keep her no. 1 must be met. LOL. Bobby Lipton who used to play Jeff on ATWT and once dated Marie Masters, gave a scathing account of Dee's tactics in a magazine. So while those other actresses have their Emmys, Dee has Sterling Magazine and Soap Awards on her trophy shelf.

R117 wasn't DAYS really good back then?
I didn't start watching until Christmas break 1994, I had just turned 11, and was intrigued by the possession storyline. I got hooked and my grandparents, who lived with us, would record it for me for Afterschool when I went back to school
The Susan/John/Kristen/Marlena secret room saga of summer 1997 was my life that summer!
We miss you James E. Reilly!
by Anonymous | reply 118 | May 3, 2018 12:41 PM |
During and after the OJ Trial Days was the ONLY soap to increase viewers. The possession storyline brought in 3-4 million additional viewers. All the other soaps were faltering. That's why we had silly clone Reva on GL and all those nutso sci/fi type stories. It worked on Days because it was Marlena, who had wrecked her marriage to Roman by cheating with John and being susceptible to possession. Yeah, her turning into a cougar(!) and sending the swarm of bees was over the top but once you started watching you couldn't stop. Dee was a hoot and ran with it.
by Anonymous | reply 119 | May 3, 2018 2:55 PM |
I am not sure anyone is disputing the must-see camp of DOOL during that time - I think the argument revolves around Dee's acting skills.
by Anonymous | reply 120 | May 3, 2018 5:05 PM |
DAYS was the gayest soap on TV during the Reilly era (93-98). It was so camp and over the top that it made the other soaps look "normal".
I was just watching old YouTube clips of Vivian dressed as a nurse in a blond wig and a syringe and walking around Salem Hospital purposely killing Carly's patients with a big ass syringe of cleaner fluid in her hand!
Oh James Reilly!
by Anonymous | reply 121 | May 3, 2018 5:15 PM |
I hated Reilly's approach to a lot of longtime DOOL characters -- basically, he reduced their IQ by about 50 points each, and Marlena was the biggest victim -- but I can't deny that he knew how to work the soap structure.
by Anonymous | reply 122 | May 3, 2018 5:25 PM |
R57 Umm there was no Eileen on Days until she became evil and Deeva was her foil. In her winning Emmy reel, Deeva plays very well against ED.I'm a big ED/Kristen fan but that whole Kristen/Marlena/John triangle made the Kristen charcter what she was. Without Marlena, ED was just another soap madwoman, especially in the 90s.

He also worked on Susnset Beach while doing DAYS and of course created Passions

Santa Barbara beat DAYS for best show at the Soap Opera Digest Awards in 1990.
In fact, DAYS did not win any major Soap Opera Digest Award that year (other than the Editor's Choice Award to Frances and MacDonald); Santa Barbara won 8 awards that night.
So what happened? Santa Barbara was the bigger stuffer?
I remember thinking the whole thing stunk to high heaven.

Randomly.....
I know people love-to-hate on Kristian Alfonso...... but I had a delightful, old-school interaction with her, around 2004. Encountered her in a retail setting, and let my '80s DAYS-freak Flag fly. Sure, I loved Bo & Hope...... but, Shane & Kimberly were MY THING/favorite couple. And I said that!
She went OFF. Yes! Shane & Kim were the BEST! They were her favorite couple, too -- "I loved their story!" She said that pretty much every female on the show had a massive crush on Charles Shaughnessy, especially the "girls" (Kristian, Missy Reeves, Lisa Trusel). "He was SO dreamy! We ALL had a crush on Charlie!! I still have a crush on him!" She also said that was her favorite period of the show -- when Bo, Hope, Shane & Kimberly were all intertwined together.

R128 I love your story. KA used to be so gorgeous. Especially in the 80s. Yes I know she was heavier but God was she was divinely beautiful She has become too skinny for the last God know show many years. Deeva actually looks better now than she did then.

R132 It was SSH. I don't think Charlotte and Kristian even worked together since Kristian first left, for Falcon Crest, in 1987 and Charlotte debuted in 1987, they may have had some scenes during Kristian 's brief return in 1990 since Charlotte was on until 1991.

Susan Seaforth Hayes said in her bio that she and Brenda Benet had been friends when they were both starting out in the acting business in the early 1960s. However, Susan betrayed Brenda's trust and their friendship fell apart.
In 1979, Days hired Brenda to play Lee Carmichael opposite Bill Hayes' Byron Carmichael (eventually revealed to be Doug's twin brother). Doug and Julie were separated at this point, so after Byron died and left his money to Doug, Lee started trying to cozy up to Doug. Eventually Doug and Lee married.
SSH says in the book that she was extremely jealous of Brenda being paired with her husband, Bill. She said that she wanted to be the only one playing opposite Bill and would have been gotten territorial with any actress playing her husband's love interest. The fact it was Brenda just made it worse because of their history.
SSH said after Julie and Doug were reunited on screen, she calmed down and realized how horribly she had behaved toward Brenda. She made a point of apologizing and hashing it out with Brenda a few months before the suicide.

I was reading an old People magazine interview with Agenes Nixon, creator of All My Children and One Life to Live, online from the mid 70s and it mentioned that everyday at 1 pm she would watch Days of Our Lives, to "keep up with the competition " and because "she genuinely likes the show "
But she didn't watch All My Children, HER show at the time. I always thought that was odd
by Anonymous | reply 145 | May 6, 2018 11:02 AM |
Oh the ways Nixon and Bill Bell would compete with one another in the 70's!
Kay Chancellor was the rich drunk on Bell's Y &R and then we had Phoebe Tyler on AMC follow suit.
Leslie Brooks had a nervous breakdown on Y&R and then so did Erica on AMC(and Alice on AW too) in 974-75.
Margo Flax had a face lift on AMC and then so did Kay Chancellor on Y&R.
by Anonymous | reply 146 | May 6, 2018 1:55 PM |
R146 yes and Erica Kane was based off DAY'S Julie, the troublesome teenager with a missing father figure
Bell began headwriting for DAYS in 1966, AMC premiered in 1970
by Anonymous | reply 147 | May 6, 2018 3:44 PM |
Actually Erica was the forerunner of Rachel Davis on AW. Nixon had the bible for AMC written before she took the hw gig on AW. She knew an obstacle needed to come between heroine Alice and Steve and Rachel - based on Lisa from ATWT (Irna's creation) was brought in the story to marry Russ and upset the Matthews household. Erica and Julie did have a lot of similar aspects. Their selfishness and feelings of abandonment were prominent, even though Julie had rich parents who seemed to want to dump her on her grandparents.

Why would she watch her show on broadcast day when she had already written it, been there for filming, editing and probably watched when finished product. She clearly said she was watching the competition. makes perfect sense.

I love Dee. Always have. And I like the way that Dee has always conducted herself in the business. She stays in her lane and if she’s going to cut someone’s throat, you won’t see it coming. I get the feeling that Dee is an introvert who gets overwhelmed at all the fan adoration and attention and doesn’t particular care for it, but puts up with it because she’s a professional. She also won’t slap her name on to anything for a quick buck, like some of her peers. And I love the fact that she and Jane Elliot, two women who couldn’t be more different, are BFFs after all these years. I also liked the fact that, while she preferred working with Wayne, she knew that the fans preferred Drake and ran with it.
To sum it up, I think that Dee has a clear sense of who she is and this business and has survived because she has remained consistent.
by Anonymous | reply 154 | May 7, 2018 5:26 PM |
R151 Deeva and Thaao are just friends. Kelly LeBrock, Ms Hunley and Thaao were more than friends. Thaao will dabble in the pussy when he isn't into peen.
Deeva and Wayne were great friends but Drake and Deeva became the show's more beloved couple. Give Days credit. When Wayne came back the whole John Black/ Roman Brady thing could have worked against Drake. Instead JER made it work. Yes in a campy over the top/comic booky type of way but he still made it work.
by Anonymous | reply 155 | May 7, 2018 5:46 PM |
Actually Eileen Davidson's Kristen and John were becoming a hot couple and Dee Dee couldn't stand that. So JER turned Kristen evil so fans would clamor for Marlena/John. It was all manipulated by Dee and JER working together. Dee saw her star status threatened by Davidson and she insisted the story change.
by Anonymous | reply 156 | May 7, 2018 6:53 PM |
R156 How true is that ? Days became The Eileen Davidson Show when Kristen became a baddie. Wayne Northup was still in picture as well. I doubt that Deeva would do anything to hurt him OR leaving the show because of her. ED had more more chemistry with Thaao than Drake to be honest. In the end, Kristen becoming evil sounds more like it was pure JER than a collaboration between Deeva and JER.

What many people don't realize is that Reilly had a five year bible when he got the HW gig. I heard it was something like 500 pages. While not everything in the bible happened and things were changed. Kristen, named after Christ and Stefano's adopted daughter (the bible had that level of detail), was always slated to get with John and eventually turn to the dark side. Fun fact: Possession was not in Reilly's bible.

[quote]I'm shocked Dee and SSH seem so close. Dee essentially usurped SSH's position as the female face of Days, so I'd think SSH would loathe our darling Dee.
I'm going to slightly disagree with this. Dee was basically the replacement for Laura. Marlena and Don were very popular, but Marlena really didn't become THE Marlena until they paired her with Roman and then they put her in that Salem Strangler story and that's when she became the star. Julie was still very much the queen bee until that point. I think Julie's last big story was probably the facial burn. Then they SORASed Hope. When Kristian Alfonso and Peter Reckell came on board SSH and BH were pretty much done.
SSH must have been pissed when they SORASed David in the 70s, but she survived that. She didn't survive SORASing Hope.
Fun Fact: Hope has a huge trust fund from Addie. I guess it's collecting interest somewhere because she never uses it.

In the Hayes's book SSH talks about Dee and their conversation about the SSH/Brenda Benet feud and the affect it had in the Make Up room.SSH says she saw things in a different light after Dee's comments. The Hayes were not wells served when a grown up Hope became the next superstar. Unfortunately there was no place else to go with Doug and Julie. They had been on later, rinse, repeat for years.

The tenor of the show changed so much when Pat Falken Smith came on board. She made Days a baby GH. Thaao Penghlis came on board as Tony DiMera(who was basically Victor Cassadine from GH but a more heroic version). The Bradys were Days' answer to The Spencers on GH. Dee was young enough so that they could integrate her into the new character and their storylines. MR and Mrs Hayes were becoming elder statesmen on Days at that point.

[quote]I think Julie's last big story was probably the facial burn.
That was a good storyline, the one that lead to Doug and Julie divorcing and Doug subsequently marrying his brother's widow, Lee.
But the Hayes also had a good storyline in 1980-81 when Doug and Julie got back together. Julie pretended to be over Doug and agreed to serve as interior decorator (?) for the house Doug was fixing up for Lee, but their feelings for each other resurfaced soon after.
Doug and Julie could have survived SORASing Hope if they'd had broken them up and get back together multiple times over the years. It worked for Victor and Nicki on Y&R. Could have worked on Days if written properly.
Plus there were numerous other stories they could have told. Julie could have gotten pregnant. They could have dealt with the fact that Doug was the biological father of Robert LeClaire's adopted son, Dougie.
Doug and Julie were the face of the show in the 1970s. They're the ones who made the cover of Time magazine in 1976. And by 1984, they were gone! Can't believe the show treated them so shabbily.
Incidentally, it was Brian Frons who insisted the show emphasize the younger set at the expense of the older characters.

I've always been a fan of Deidre Hall and have fond memories of her from watch Days of our Lives was a brief time in the 1970s.
She was actually wanted as the Bond girl for the film Moonraker and she was eager to appear in the film but could not get released from her contract with DOOL. Lois Chiles ended up with the Moonraker role. A shame because it may have led to a successful film career for Deidre.
by Anonymous | reply 183 | May 13, 2018 12:22 PM |
Like it did for Lois Chiles, R183? Dierdre doesn't know how to 'act' like a human being, her acting makes Joan Crawford's look gritty, edgy and real.
by Anonymous | reply 184 | May 13, 2018 1:53 PM |
R183 Deeva had her run on nighttime TV. Moonraker would have made her a footnote in Bond history. Today Deeva is a soap icon and Chiles(if even alive) must do the cheesy con circuit!
R181 Yawn and The Rested had Bill Bell writing some very shitty plotlines in the 90s. The angry Teuton and Miss Peggy had become tiresome at that point. Their core audience is so moronic/simple is that ate up the Angry Teuton's antics. Once again, Days became GH Jr. The DiMeras were the answer to The Cassaidines, The Bradys to The Spencers etc so on. Much like GH ushered in the new crew, Pat Falken Smith did so as well. So Doug and Julie weren't going to be front burner with the new emphasis on the new characters,
by Anonymous | reply 185 | May 13, 2018 2:08 PM |
[quote]The tenor of the show changed so much when Pat Falken Smith came on board.
Smith originally planned for Stefano DiMera to become obsessed with Julie rather than Marlena. Doug and Julie were going to pretend to separate and there would be lots off furtive romantic trysts while the duo tried to pull the wool over Stefano's eyes.

Dee never stuck her name on everything like Lucci did. Half of Lucci's fortune is from her side hustles. The only real thing I admire Lucci for is turning the Emmy's losses into a legend and bank. It got so that it didn't matter who won best actress, because the press focused on Lucci losing again. And the truth is Lucci wasn't a very good actress. No better or worse than Dee. And Rachel Davis did Erica Kane before Erica Kane so it's not like Erica was some original revelation.
by Anonymous | reply 213 | May 14, 2018 1:10 PM |
R213 actually Julie Olson was the prototype for Erica Kane
Get it right bitches!

I wonder who Ms Rogers blew to get that billing........not Ms Corday she's a family man right?
by Anonymous | reply 216 | May 14, 2018 1:22 PM |
She didn't blow anybody. She has top billing because Days has always credited their cast by seniority. The only exceptions have been Mac Carey who always got the star billing. Frances Reid who got star billing after Mac at some point in the 80s. Wayne Northrup got the "with" billing and Deidre Hall got the "and" billing for their big returns in the early 90s. I think GH credits by seniority also.

R209 Oh, please. Dee is stricly vag. She never slept with Steve, who is probably stricly dickly himself. They married to beard for each other and Dee had babies via surrogate because she sure as fuck wasn't having a dude's dick in her.

MIss Halls dated Richard Dean Anderson, so she is no stranger to dick.
by Anonymous | reply 219 | May 14, 2018 1:29 PM |
R214 Actually, no.
Erica was created around 1964-1965 by Agnes Nixon, but Proctor & Gamble passed on All My Children. Months later they asked her to take over as head writer of Another World, and Erica was her inspiration for the creation of Rachel there.
Julie was long after either of those heaux had emerged from Agnes' brain.

by Anonymous | reply 230 | May 14, 2018 2:16 PM |
Erica Kane is much better as a strictly comedic character than a dramatic one. I always sensed that Lucci played the whole thing tongue and cheek and as such probably deserved more credit than she got, acting wise. Not that I think she's any great shakes as an actress, but she seemed in on the joke, unlike someone like Dee or Kim Zimmer who seemed to be completely oblivious to the absurdity of their characters' behavior.
by Anonymous | reply 231 | May 14, 2018 2:52 PM |
R231 Umm you re wrong. Dee was great in the demonic possession story line and got the camp value. Also in the 90s the whole Kristen vs Marlena rivallry worked because of Deeva. No matter what she claims she did good work during JER's camp era. Looch would have been totally lost on JER's Days.
by Anonymous | reply 232 | May 14, 2018 3:05 PM |
I actually don't think Lucci played it tongue in cheek. I think she revered and adored Agnes that she gave 110% to everything and played it dead seriously. However, she was such a lousy actress, she could never believably pull off serious drama.
by Anonymous | reply 233 | May 14, 2018 3:28 PM |
Lucci was good at light drama, the kind of hair tossing vapidity that a young Erica would have done to escape what she saw as her dull beginnings. But more advanced drama was not her forte.
Dee was a decent actress in the beginning - I remember when Marlena's baby died of SIDS. But that was years before she had to do the silliness required of her since the 80s.
by Anonymous | reply 234 | May 14, 2018 3:36 PM |
During JER’s tenure, Dee was making an unheard of salary. The show was #2 overall and #1 in all the demos and her storylines were some of the most talked about in daytime or primetime. The problem was daytime had this snobbery about JER and his stories and Dee got caught up in that. And at the same time GH was doing those gritty and heart tugging Labine stories, so neither Dee, nor Days, had any real shot of getting recognized except with the SOAPYs or whatever they were called and other fan driven awards shows.
Remember how NBC would show the awards show with a primetime episode of Days. Those truly were the days. Emmys are subjective anyway. Two of the best actresses to ever appear on soaps never got Emmys. The Emmys were just as much a popularity contest as were the SOAPYs, just in a different way.
by Anonymous | reply 235 | May 14, 2018 3:41 PM |
That's why when it was rumored that Dee and Ali Sweeney were feuding because Ali was making more than Dee during her return, I believed it.
Dee had her salary cut when she came back and her ego has been hurting ever since.
by Anonymous | reply 236 | May 14, 2018 3:42 PM |
Dee didn’t just have her salary cut, she is making a fraction of what she made back then. But then, no one is making what they used to make, except Maurice Benard and Steve Burton over at GH.
I don’t believe that Dee was pissed at Ali Sweeney. I do believe that someone planted that story because nothing gets buzz like pitting two women against each other.
by Anonymous | reply 237 | May 14, 2018 3:50 PM |
JER wrote for both Lucci and her daughter Liza Huber
JER was in the writing staff as a script writer on AMC in the early 80s and according to him, Agnes gave him.permission to flesh out the Opal Gardner (Dorothy Lyman) character and write her dialogue, so JER was already doing comedic camp
Years later, JER would create Passions and Liza Huber was an original cast member as Gwen Hotchkiss

That MTM gig actually GOT Mary her 1st soap role on Return To Peyton Place as D.B. Bentley. Everyone in town thinks D.B. is a guy and voila Mary Frann shows up as a blonde bombshell hardcore businesswoman. That role was based on Lin Bolen who was an NBC exec. Dee was jealous that Sami and Alison had surpassed her and Marlena in terms of popularity on the show and was jealous that Ejami had surpassed Jarlena. The majority of the actors to play Will were much closer with Alison and considered her a mentor to them than they were with Dee with exception to one of them who was closer with Dee than with Alison.
Dee was always closer with with Wayne than she was with Drake and Dee most definitely didn't like the fact that Alison started getting paid more money than she was.Dee also didn't like that Bope was surpassing Roman and Marlena on the show because she remembered when Marlena surpassed Julie and how much she had enjoyed it but was it now happening to her,

Ok its Chandler R333. All the other actors who played Will were closer with Alison than they were with Dee except for Chandler who was the opposite. Dee loves that Chandler is much closer with her than he is with Alison. For one its something that she feels that she has 1 upped over Alison due to the other Will's not being as close and because Alison's character Sami had become much more popular than Marlena and Alison at some point was getting paid more than Dee when she was on the show.

Dee really loved Wayne and they had a great working relationship. She didn't have a big issue at first when Drake was playing Roman, but when they were paired together again in the 90s they got at each other's throats.
Things were very bad around the time they were both fired. When they returned, they called a truce - since they were both fighting huge pay cuts and younger co-stars. I've heard that Dee even went to bat for Drake with TPTB after his injuries.

Was Dee really fired? I thought Ted placed her on sabbatical for financial reasons, and the intention was always for her to return.

Ted? Ted Corday has been dead for 50+ years.
I think you mean Ken.
It may have been the case, but they were gone for a few years, so.....

Dee was in the 1st ep of Y&R in 1973 and bonded with the cast. She made sporadic appearances as Nurse Barbara Anderson who was involved with Brad Eliot, presumed dead to her. Bill Bell saved her for DAYS when he realized what a great actress she was. Dee complained on Y&R they had to make her look dowdy because she couldn't outshine Janice Lynde who played her counterpart in the triangle w/ Brad and Leslie. Before that she played a nurse on several eps of Emergency. She was right on the bubble of being discovered. The worst travesty of her career was being denied the part of Kyrstal on Dynasty. The part was HERS but NBC said no.

Were Dee and Sue Flannery ever in the same clitue? They seem like they'd be great friends.

Sue's almost 10 years older than Dee, and Dee was always more of a down low, lipstick lez, while La Flannery was always hiding in plain sight (and as butch as the day is long).

Ah the scourge of late-stage dementia, r343.

Flannery never came across as bunch to me.

You're so right, R347. Flannery is a vision of femme beauty and softness.

R348 who's the dude?

Mal Young, of course

Flannery was truly stunning when she was young.

Was Deidre's hubby gay?

Which one? She's had four (that's half as many as Liz Taylor's eight but still).

When Marlena marries John for what...the 6th time...will she wear white and a veil? She's a GREAT Grandmother for crissakees.

“Hall, Deidre (from Days of Our Lives). Very closeted lesbian.”

I remember Deidre Hall from Electra Woman & Dyna Girl back in the late 1970's.

Apparnetly, Dierdre was in her late teens when she was on Electra Woman and Dyna Girl

Dee? She's only about 45 years old. She lied about her age to ahead in Hollywood.

At her peak she seemed to yield slightly more power on her show than Lucci, that was probably because she was married to Sohmer, who was president of Columbia Studios and had influence. I can't help but think as a couple they were partly the inspiration for the Seinfeld NBC chief Russell Dalrymple character who had the wife named Cynthia.

She still has a great body. Probably helped by never giving birth

I recall seeing Dee and Steve on a talk show with their surrogate and Steve looked very much the third wheel as Dee and her knocked up pal held hands the entire time.

Her best acting was during the affair storyline in 1993 and early 1994.

Some feel Deidre and Wayne lacked romantic chemistry - and that they only had chemistry when they were fighting.
