It's too bad about him IRL. In addition to his other medical conditions, he has apparently lived a shut-down and somewhat tortured life fraught with serious and debilitating anxiety.

I thought she was divorcing him because he was developing dementia, which I thought was horrifying. So maybe he's being exploited.

My understanding is that she finally decided to leave because he had often been cold or withdrawn, emotionally withholding, and not really present for her in the marriage. It would seem she was in love but he wasn't .Apparently also spent lots of money they couldn't afford to lose during anxiety attacks. At some point after she wrote her book, Daryl did admit that there were things that he should have done differently.

It's too bad that his eyes are the result of a serious optical condition , because the symptoms produced some of the warmest, most softly beautiful, dreamy and romantic brown eyes I've ever seen on a man.
