Bill Bixby

He had a great ass (see the intro to [italic]The Courtship of Eddie's Father,[/italic] below).

He had a tragic life. His seven year old son, his only child, died of a rare throat infection while on a ski vacation, and his wife, the actress Brenda Benet, left him for another woman, divorced him, and then shot herself a year later. He married a second time, but died six weeks before he collapsed from prostate cancer while directing an episode of [italic]Blossom[/italic]; he died soon after.

He was much beloved in Hollywood. he was the lead in three hit shows--[italic]My Favorite Martian, The Courtship of eddie's Father,[/italic] and [italic]The Incredible Hulk,[/italic] and also starred in a very well-regarded fourth, [italic]The Magician.[/italic] he was also a talented TV director.

He had such a great presence on all his shows. He always came across as highly intelligent.

I love Courtship of Eddie’s Father. Why the hell is it never shown on reruns somewhere? Can’t even find a youtube episode.

by Anonymousreply 8April 21, 2018 5:29 AM

I have never heard of anyone collapsing from prostate cancer.

Just learned that he and I went to the same school in SF (he was a number of years before me): Lowell High School. Carol Channing went there too--many years before me.

R9, they collapse from prostrate cancer.

Hard to fathom he was born in 1932! He still seems so young in my memory.

by Anonymousreply 12April 21, 2018 5:37 AM

Big part of my childhood , he seemed like a safe male adult
