Rocketman: The Elton John Biopic
[quote]Taron Egerton in the role of Elton John
No doubt, soon to be a major Broadway musical.
And will they mention that he likes the homo sex? Or will they be honest that EJ played a cat and mouse game until it was safe for him to come out of the closet?

I predict a flop. Elton John turned out to be such an unpleasant person that nobody is interested in his life.

But do most people KNOW he's a complete prat? I don't think they do. Most gossip and entertainment news goes in one ear and out the other.

R3 I don't know if people know he's a prat, but he's not seen as a sexy charismatic kind of figure either. There's nothing about him that really grabs the publics imagination, he just doesn't seem to have had a particularly interesting life. We will have to wait and see though.

I will go see it just because I get to see Taron Egerton hook up with a guy.

Has Taron even had a beard? Trying to figure out if he's in the closet or just doesn't talk about his sex life. Not quite the same thing

Will they show Elton enjoying threesomes with porn stars? That's how David kept his love life spiced up with old Elton.

I know I read somewhere awhile back that EJ wanted Justin Timberlake to play him in the movie. Especially after the "This Train..." video.
What happened?

He has been dating Emily Thomas for a while r6. Or y'know, that is his beard if you don't want to give up your dream.

Taron isn't even my type. Was going off everything on this thread. But stay cunty!

Who's the intended audience for this?
Only people over 40 (50?) give a shit about him and his past.

Yes r12, they should only make movies about people who are under 30!

More importantly than showing Elton gay I hope they show just how damn ugly he was - balding and fat with bad Englishman teeth. And then the wigs. And the prissy drama queen antics...
But especially the balding head.
A singing Gollum.

I wonder where it will end.
In what year of his life.
Diana's funeral?

An entire screenplay could be written about the "Caribou" album cover.

John Elton was in Kingsman 2, so they actually have worked together before

Rory Kinnear would make a better Elton.

He played Tom Hardy's lover in Legend. I haven't seen the film yet, though.

A role Taron was born to play.

[bold]Jamie Bell Joins Taron Egerton in Elton John Biopic 'Rocketman'[/bold]
[quote]Bell will play Bernie Taupin, the longtime songwriting partner of John who penned the lyrics of such classic tunes as "Tiny Dancer," "Bennie and the Jets" and "Rocket Man."

Will there be any gay guys in this movie about one of the most famous gay guys?

r30 Exactly. I'm tired of seeing gay actors in gay roles in small indie movies only. Meanwhile, the heteros are cleaning up awards portraying us in mainstream movies and getting lauded for their "bravery". Maybe let's save the "Who cares?" for [italic]after[/italic] an openly gay man wins an Oscar for Best Actor, shall we?

I remember the story about Timberlake being recruited for this part too, that would’ve been great - a role he might not embarrass himself in. Wonder what happened to that.

Betcha ten bucks that the relationship with the beard he married is treated as important and romantic.

Well, this is sure to be terrible given the cast, writer, and director. Bryce Dallas Howard? Pass.
R20 He's barely in the movie. And, there are ZERO romantic scenes between them.
R28 The answer is a resounding "No."
R29 And, you sound like another ignorant straight cis man or self-hating gay troll.
What gay man/woman doesn't care that other gay men/women are constantly being passed over for GAY ROLES in high profile films? There are openly gay actors too you know.
And, don't give me that bullshit about box office. Taron Egerton is on nobody's A-list. The last Kingsman movie had more stars in it than Ocean's 11 and still barely made $100 million in the US & Canada

Who will play Patti Labelle, Reginald's first employer?

I think it will be interesting. He didn't have the "look" to be a rock star, but he made it anyway. The work relationship with Bernie Taupin will make a good subplot. Perhaps they'll examine the struggle of being in the closet while famous, and hopefully they won't dodge the related conflicts that the Queen movie is rumored to be dodging. I think the high point of the movie will be Elton's relationship with Ryan White and how the boy's bravery inspired him to come out of the closet. Then huge fame again with the Lion King movie song. Followed by the death of Diana shortly after. The movie should end with him speaking at an AIDS event and smiling at David Furnish and their sons in the crowd. Elton's life has had more ups and downs than a roller coaster ride. It has the potential to be a much more interesting story than any other rocker (even the old straight Rolling Stones who each just keep repeating the same story over and over again). Other than Elton and Ryan, the movie should stay away from trying to depict celebrities of the time.
Hopefully Valerie Bertinelli gets a cameo.

William Shatner was born for the title role of this biopic.
Nobody but Shatner can claim the title of "Rocketman" after this performance.

You're way off. The time frame covered by the movie is about a decade.
Roughly, his start through the late 1970s.
