Saw ANGELS IN AMERICA on Bway--Got to see Lee Pace's weiner!!
I watched both parts of Angels in America yesterday on Broadway. The production is fantastic and hold together all the swirling themes that this 7 hour play embodies.
I saw lots of celebrities--even used the urinal right after David Duchovny--he's looking old at 58!
There a scene in which Lee Pace takes off all his clothes and runs around. He has a great body and a not-so-bad peenie. I had no idea how tall Pace is--6'5"
The play is a Phenomenal experience.

The Angels in America done at the Signature Theatre in NYC about 7 years ago was excellent too. This one seems to have some new language. I think Kushner has continued to work on the second play.
Nathan Lane is fantastic too. He plays the same role he always does, but it fits perfectly. He's acting highlights so much of the humor in Roy Cohn's character that most others miss.

It might have worked if I'd never seen Lane in anything. But no, he was not Roy Cohn. Every time he stops talking, I sensed he was waiting for laughs from the audience, as usually happens with Nathan Lane.

Nathan Lane couldn't be anyone other than Nathan Lane. He's less Roy Cohn than a nasty Nathan Lane.
Garfield's shrieky minstrelsy got on my very last nerve! He seemed to be channeling Paul Lynde at times.
I liked the Taymoresque Angel best. The whole affair played more for laffs than in 1993.

R36 Who knows. I get around.
Nope, I just don't get the obsession with body parts. I mean, face, yep. A whole body, yep. But if you were a talented artist, would you want to draw a penis? Okay I get it when it's about a special man. You really like someone, maybe even in love with him, or find him beautiful, you want to know all about them. But the same people go to every penis thread or ask about them irl.

Anyway something did get me curious. He's 6'5, then means unless he is extremely well endowed with a length just as unusual as his towering height, it wouldn't look big at all. So--did it?

Sadly, disappointing. Saw the original in LA in 1992/1993. Incredible! This version has major vocal issues: tons of screaming with no vocal support, so its a mess. Pace and the women who play the angel and Harper are terrific, as is the Belize actor. Nathan Lane is playing Nathan Lane playing someone mean....but he doesn't let that stand in the way of the schtick to get the laughs (Ron Liebeman played Cohn in LA and was truly magnificent and terrifying. Al Pacino's version is the HBO special was incredible). Garfield adopted a bizarre vocal style that made him appear to be channeling Vivian Leigh in Street Car Named Desire...complete with constant pearl clutching. Its still an incredible piece of work and hard work for the actors. I just wish they had been helped to make better choices vocally and otherwise. :(

I saw it in London at the NT. I did not like it at all. Nathan was horrible and I never believed Garfield. The production was awful. I had seen the original Broadway, the Off-Broadway and, of course, the HBO several times. I am still surprised it crossed the pond. It is not doing very well at the box office.

Well R52 you don’t have to pay any fees if you go directly to the box office, but if you don’t want to do that, almost all shows are sold through Telecharge and Ticketmaster online and via telephone. You can also go to the TKTS booth for discounted tickets, if you’re cheap and want to buy day of (or day before for matinees). It is 2018, comparison shopping is pretty easy to do.
Now back to discussing Lee Pace’s member.

Pace's piece: nice cock. If you were expecting a 12" baby arm to tumble out, then you will be disappointed. But seriously: is that the requirement now?

Agreed, and thus again we salute Mike Nichols.
Saw the NT screening and thought Lane was solid but didn't bring enough to erase the indelible Pacino. Garfield's queen act didn't though jar for me and compelled in its own right.
Interested to read that it's not a hot ticket. Had a skirmish here re: the NT transfer when a poster was sure it would fail on B'way for plentiful reasons. Hope not, but doubtless 'I told you so' hovers.

This was the first time that, during Lane scenes in Perestroika, I thought the play really needed to be seriously trimmed down. The fucker never died, it took him like, three or four long scenes and instead of creating dramatic tension it just bored me to death. Die already! Maybe it is because I saw the two parts together on a Saturday but Perestroika really needs to be cut down.
I am surprised that the critics were so forgiving of the production's many flaws (design, costumes, accents....) Has the director ever been to Utah? Does she know how they look, speak and act (according to Kushner's stereotypical reading?) I so wish it was better but the play feels more like a relic and it should resonate even more today (not just the Trump-Reagan connection). The whole "The cracker who wrote the anthem" speech had no impact whatsoever when I saw it at the NT; I hope it lands better now.

That line, which should be a huge applause maker, just wasn’t said the right way in this production. There should have been a mild pause prior to saying it so it stands out. Instead it’s just said in a long running sentence.

"Instead it’s just said in a long running sentence." [r80] It is truly an aria....the audience should explode. "just wasn’t said the right way in this production" I felt that most of the dialogue (again, I saw it in London) did not sound right. It is not just diction but the rhythms were wrong. Even Prior's beautiful closing monologue did not carry the necessary emotion and importance. But, I must have been the only one.

I haven't seen it. (*sighs*) But, according to reports, there's no doubt this award belongs to Lee's. Some say it's shy and introvert, that it should be more enthusiastic; that it chose a too low profile approach to its role. (Although, it's been said that it warmed up quite a bit during the first performances.) One thing, however, cannot be denied: the audience loves its 20s 'tour de force"! (lol)
