Barbara Bush was the rock of a family dedicated to public service, and our thoughts and prayers are with both Presidents Bush and the entire Bush family tonight. We’ll always be grateful to Mrs. Bush for the generosity she showed to us throughout our time in the White House, but we’re even more grateful for the way she lived her life – as a testament to the fact that public service is an important and noble calling; as an example of the humility and decency that reflects the very best of the American spirit. She’ll be remembered for passing those American values on to her children, her grandchildren, her great-grandchildren – and to the countless citizens whom she and George inspired to become ‘points of light’ in service to others.
- Barack and Michelle Obama
Beautiful statement on Barbara Bush from President George W. Bush. Mothers should keep their sons on their toes. And how beautiful to have a settled soul. It's something we should all aspire to.

Our hearts are with the Bush family as we celebrate the life and mourn the loss of Barbara Bush. Throughout her life, she put family and country above all else. Her dedicated service to the American people was matched only by her compassion and love of family. She was a woman of strength and we will always remember her for her most important roles of wife, mother, and First Lady of the United States. My heartfelt condolences and prayers are with the Bush family as we honor her legacy.

She wasn't class. She was an asshole. Yes, she was an asshole to Trump and that's what Trump deserves. But that doesn't confer anything extra to Bush.
Her entire attitude towards the Katrina victims sums up exactly who she was: a careless sociopath. It's no accident her children turned out the way they did. It's no accident she married who she married. Birds of a feather flock together, and she was a shitbird like the rest of her family.

I've people familiar with the Bushes in my family. All but two dead now. Let's put it this way..if I got married in the 90s, Bush Sr. wouldn't think of missing the wedding with these folks. The Connecticut side. When the Bushes were newly married they acquired an apt. next to a mother-daughter prostitute team. They would jokingly reenact the session they could hear through paper thin walls and to roll into laughter quietly. I always liked that story. Showed no outrage just hysterics. The jumping from a hit plane in Pacific seemed nice. Their son was basically a little clown an nothing more. Shame.

Let’s get this straight: GHW Bush grew up affluent but his wealth was self made in TX- not inherited- not really old money. Barbara probably inherited a bit, but not big money. They were and are pretty much classic establishment upper middle class WASP- graduated to upper in the 20 million or so range. My Mom went to Rye Country Day with Barbara- they were casual friends through the years. I’ve got a pic of Mom with Barbara and Raisa Gorbachev at a Wellesley College commencement (my Mom was a trustee). I knew and know lots of people like the Bush seniors- it’s more or less what I grew up among along with the old Our Crowd (German Jewish) click in NYC.

After watching all of the stories about George and Barbara and their great love, am I the only one who's picking up pings from George Bush Sr.? The idea never crossed my mind. I knew Barbara Bush had a masculine beauty in her later years, but thought suredly there must have been something of a pretty girl earlier on. But nope, she was a bit of a hammer out of the gate. And you see young George Bush who was an attractive, dashing, tall gentleman with this frau like girl. And they met when they were 16&17 and were together ever since. That is something a closet case would do, find the one woman who loves him very early so he never has to make that point again. So you have young attractive dude, marrying a hammer of girl, very early on. Otherwise her father or family must have been filthy rich. But the Bush's had money then too. Am I wrong?

R234. EXACTLY. i have read all the articles and actually like her now. my understanding is she was totally dedicated to her husband and yes he was so much more attractive than she was, she realized at 16yrs old she would NEVER get a chance like this EVER again to land a hot rich man. What he required was that she SERVE him and be his wife slave, raise his kids, not complain and do what ever she can to help him achieve HIS goals.. so the deal was done. if you read how she was doing anything to be around him, tennis, golf, she would learn these sports just to be around him, and then he would not play with her because he would say she was not good enough at either sport. so basically she lived his life for her.......and i guess she was happy with that. and does not seem too bad a deal. i always thought he married her for her families money but his family had the money. he just needed a wife slave. and he got one. she was so unattractive. always. compared to him. he was hot as a young man.

No. The life-long embitteredness and frustration made for predatory sarcasm, not delightfully bitchy dish. And unless she considered you of her class you would have gotten fake-grandmotherly bromides at best, stony silence at worst. The Bushes rose in the world through their own hard work, as some are saying here, but they couldn't have done it without leveraging their families' already not inconsiderable wealth and, especially, social connections (apart from Barbara's father's position, George's father had been a successful businessman and U.S. senator). Most of all they had and still have a high WASP entitlement that comes from an overdeveloped sense of family history and breeding, and for them if you aren't family, you're the help.

[quote]Her entire attitude towards the Katrina victims sums up exactly who she was: a careless sociopath.
Has the media covered her Hurricane Katrina comments yet?

My condolences to the Bush family. May they take some comfort knowing that Jeb is not longer the most low energy Bush.

Some professor in California blasted Barbara on twitter for being a racist a bigot and for unleashing her family onto the world. The comments on daily mail are crazy on the story.
But she was right about what she said about Barbara.
by Anonymous | reply 276 | April 19, 2018 4:21 AM |
Barbara had one cocktail too many while she was carrying Dubya.

R264. What the hell are you saying?! The world knows the Bush family was and is CIA and made their in wars for oil. Prescott stole Geronimo's skull to use as the mascot of Skull & Bones at Yale.
by Anonymous | reply 278 | April 19, 2018 4:34 AM |
^^ made their fortune in wars for oil.
by Anonymous | reply 279 | April 19, 2018 4:34 AM |
R264. sorry. you're on our side. I misread your post.

Does her pussy still stink?
by Anonymous | reply 281 | April 19, 2018 4:51 AM |
Not just oil. He was called "Poppy Bush" because he ran the CIA's heroin trade out of Afghanistan. It was huge. It was a tongue in cheek nickname for those in the know.

[quote]The world knows the Bush family was and is CIA
You think the world knows that?
I don't think that many people are well-informed.

R285 Geraldine Ferraro?
by Anonymous | reply 287 | April 19, 2018 9:51 AM |
I am so tired of idiots who think you make a plural with " 's."
Go back to your English lessons, OP.

Which time?
by Anonymous | reply 290 | April 19, 2018 3:13 PM |
She was a saint compared to Nancy Reagan.
by Anonymous | reply 291 | April 19, 2018 4:09 PM |
I found it disturbing to read in the NY Times that she had two pet Maltipoos named Bibi and Mini-Me. And that the city of Houston named an entire dog park after them.

[quote] Remember when she called Hillary a bitch?
Did she? I know she said that Geraldine Ferraro a "rhymes with rich," but I didn;t know she said that of Hillary. And remember, she famously voted for Hillary (and endorsed her) in 2016.

According to this article, Melania was invited to the funeral but Donald was not. It says that previous to this Melania had reached out to Laura Bush and invited her to the White House for tea.
by Anonymous | reply 294 | April 19, 2018 5:04 PM |
Sitting presidents don't attend the funerals of first ladies, as a rule. The last one was JFK, who went to Eleanor Roosevelt's funeral.
by Anonymous | reply 295 | April 19, 2018 5:58 PM |
Even if they did, as a rule, I don't think it would be enough to tear him away from his golf games.
by Anonymous | reply 296 | April 19, 2018 6:03 PM |
Don't even think of burying me with this corpse. I've got more than a few good clutches left, bitches.

R278 They are Lizards. George Senior has shapehifted like QE2 in front of people.
by Anonymous | reply 298 | April 19, 2018 6:16 PM |
God needed another angel. That's the only explanation...
by Anonymous | reply 299 | April 19, 2018 8:01 PM |
Oh God, the David Icke lizard conspiracy theorists have arrived.
Get some help, toots.
by Anonymous | reply 300 | April 19, 2018 8:04 PM |
R282. I know that our soldiers protect the heroin poppies in Afghanistan but didn't know the Bush family was involved.
A poster on DL posted about the Gemstone Files. The conspiracy theory is interesting -- Onassis was shipping oil but also shipped heroin out of Vietnam. According to the Gemstone Files Ari was part of the plot to kill JFK. There are other things that I'd never heard but seem plausible - multiple shooters all with an assigned Spotter who told the shooter when to fire and also a Clean Up guy who picked up the shell casings and ran.
by Anonymous | reply 302 | April 19, 2018 8:20 PM |
Lol. The shape-shifting above is just bad, low resolution VHS.
by Anonymous | reply 303 | April 19, 2018 8:24 PM |
I don't buy into conspiracy theories in any way, but they are fun to read about in a very scifi/fantasy novel sort of way.
By far, the craziest is the shape-shifting lizards thing, the proof for which is usually just poorly shot video or bad satellite feeds.
The people who believe that shit need serious help. This is why I support socialized medicine and a strong welfare state. Keep them drugged and out of our hair, please.
Yes, yes. I'm one of the sheeple. Pfft.

It's being reported in the coverage of Barbara Bushes funeral in the UK that the American people viewed Barbara Bush as one of the closest things they have to royalty.
US Posters is this an accurate statement?
by Anonymous | reply 305 | April 22, 2018 3:15 PM |
We may fawn over some of the British royalty but we don't want it here, thank you very much.
by Anonymous | reply 306 | April 22, 2018 3:19 PM |
Nah, r305, European Royalty brought us WWI and by extension WWII. You keep 'em.

[quote]...that the American people viewed Barbara Bush as one of the closest things they have to royalty
Maybe, but it's not that close. People say that about any political dynasty, mostly the Kennedys, who at least had some charismatic figures. Apart from weirdo religious conservatives in the 2000s who were ready to "annoint" Bush Jr. as God's chosen, most Americans see the Bush family as just another political family, fitfully tawdry, criminal at worst, even if they like to buy into the nonsense that Bar was "America's grandmother." They voted out Bush Sr. after one term and barely, if at all actually, voted in Bush Jr. for two; Jeb! went nowhere in his presidential campaign and his son George P. is lying low for the time being, anyway, in a comfortable but low-profile office, knowing that no one wants him anywhere else. So they can't be that beloved.
by Anonymous | reply 310 | April 22, 2018 4:36 PM |
George H W Bush was not a womanizer, there weren't "tons" of other women, that's ridiculous. He was and is a geek. However, I doubt Jennifer Fitzgerald was the only staffer he slept with (lol secretaries, R236?). The Jennifer Fitzgerald thing was out there when he ran in 1988 to the point that a CNN reporter asked him about it on the air.

We may not have any royalty, but we have plenty of queens!
by Anonymous | reply 312 | April 22, 2018 8:02 PM |
I know a lot of you hate these Trump days -- but I think they pale in comparison to how awful the second Bush years were. People just tuned out and hid their heads in shame, including/especially Katrina.
History seems to be rewriting this stuff but I consider those post 9/11 years the worst of any presidency. Trump looks downright progressive in comparison.
by Anonymous | reply 313 | April 22, 2018 8:05 PM |
Nice try R313. Bush was pres for 4 years before Katrina. Trump's been pres for a little over a year. They both suck and Trump has plenty of time to fuck up over and over.
by Anonymous | reply 314 | April 22, 2018 8:28 PM |
R314 Shut up cunt. Seriously. This worship of the Bush klan is despicable. Deplorable.

r313 I agree. I think a lot of people have seemed to forget how fucking awful the years of Bush 2's presidency were.
by Anonymous | reply 318 | April 22, 2018 11:39 PM |
I am with R313 and R318. I despise Trump and wish him the worst, but it pisses me off to see even my liberal friends now saying "Bush wasn't so bad!" It is almost like the whole Trump thing is a long con so, from now on, conservatives can throw assholes like Bush into elections and then say "Well at least he isn't as bad as Trump!"
I call shananigans. How soon we forget about stealing the 2000 election, the outright lies to get us into the quagmire of Iraq and Afghanistan, the thousands of soldiers and civilians killed, wasting the worldwide sympathy from 9-11 to further enmesh ourselves in the ME for oil, the swiftboating of Kerry during 2004 and using gay marriage as a weapon to get votes, the complete swindling of the American people which caused the biggest financial catastrophe since the Great Depression, on and on.
And now we think of him as some loveable old gramps type who paints pictures and we put photos of him on our FB pages that say "Miss me yet?" Um...no, I don't miss you, you old bastard. You and your family are every bit as evil/corrupt as Trump. You just had the smarts and the resources to get away with it more effectively.
Trump is an evil bastard and an idiot, and I can't wait until he is taken down, but let's not use him to normalize terrible people like the Bush crime family.
