Latino Heat in North Plainfield NJ

One of the last remaining area gay bars.

Worth the trip?

by Anonymousreply 29May 1, 2018 11:27 AM

How far is this town from NYC?

by Anonymousreply 1April 16, 2018 8:12 PM

About an hour.

It is one of those gay bars that doesn't call itself a gay bar.

by Anonymousreply 2April 16, 2018 8:16 PM

Looks like a wooded area behind it next to the Plainfield train from Google Maps.

Not sure if a good place to end up mugged.

by Anonymousreply 3April 16, 2018 8:20 PM

Why is it called Latino Heat?

by Anonymousreply 4April 16, 2018 8:28 PM

They serve salsa made with habanero peppers, Rose.

by Anonymousreply 5April 16, 2018 8:30 PM

I'd say yes. Big equipment in Plainfield.

by Anonymousreply 6April 16, 2018 8:33 PM

I kind of want to check it out but I can find no independent vertificatia that it is, in fact, a gay bar and not just a Spanish bar.

by Anonymousreply 7April 16, 2018 10:48 PM

Plainfield NJ is crawling with wealthy eldergays I do know that.

by Anonymousreply 8April 16, 2018 10:50 PM

“Latino Heat Sports Bar & Grille.” Wtf? You sure it’s for gays?

by Anonymousreply 9April 16, 2018 10:56 PM

Sleepy Hollow, Hillside Avenue, or W. Eighth Street?

by Anonymousreply 10April 16, 2018 10:58 PM

Why is there a pic of a half naked woman on their Facebook page?

Ha! I am not from there but I know Gov Jim McGreevey lives there with a rich eldergay.

I would not be shocked if it keeps up appearances.

But if you Google "Plainfield gay bar" it is the first result.

by Anonymousreply 12April 16, 2018 11:02 PM

That facebook cover photo looks like cover for closeted Ecuadorians...

by Anonymousreply 13April 16, 2018 11:04 PM

So it’s a gay bar that’s trying to pretend it’s not a gay bar except when people do a Google search?

by Anonymousreply 14April 16, 2018 11:12 PM

lol. There are some pretty questionable gay bars being listed by Google. The Homestead in Piscataway? No way.

by Anonymousreply 15April 16, 2018 11:49 PM

So wait is it a straight bar?

by Anonymousreply 16April 16, 2018 11:57 PM

Most likely, R16. Thought it seems they did have a “Gay Night” a few years back.

by Anonymousreply 17April 17, 2018 5:54 PM

Though*

by Anonymousreply 18April 17, 2018 5:54 PM

All the gay bars are closing.

by Anonymousreply 19April 17, 2018 6:27 PM

by Anonymousreply 22April 28, 2018 9:54 PM

by Anonymousreply 23April 28, 2018 9:54 PM

Sounds very suspicious.

by Anonymousreply 24April 28, 2018 10:08 PM

I'm sorry miss, but with all due respect, I have my own problems.

by Anonymousreply 25April 28, 2018 10:14 PM

R21 - I went to college in Newark in the early to mid 80s. Never heard of that bar.

R23 - I don’t think so. The Den is now closed. I don’t know of any nearby. Asbury Park is probably the closest.

by Anonymousreply 26April 29, 2018 12:55 AM

In the house music genre and scene, Newark is known as an innovator. Newark's Club Zanzibar, along with other gay and straight clubs in the 1970s and 80s, was famous as both a gay and straight nightlife destination. Famed DJ Tony Humphries helped "spawn the sometimes raw but always soulful, gospel-infused subgenre" of house music known as the Newark Sound, the Jersey Sound, or Jersey Club music.

.....

A sizable and diverse LGBTQ community contributes to the long-time perception of Plainfield as a stronghold of gay life and gay community in the suburbs of New Jersey.

Plainfield has one of the highest percentage of same-sex householders in the state of New Jersey.[85][86] The First Unitarian Society of Plainfield, the oldest such congregation in the US, is certified as LGBTQ welcoming.

In 1986, the New York Times reported on what was termed at the time as the "growing homosexual population in Plainfield" drawn to the stock of aging Victorian, Tudor and colonial homes, and featured interviews with various gay men who lived in Plainfield and worked in Manhattan.[87]

by Anonymousreply 27April 29, 2018 11:29 AM

I never heard of the Newark Sound before

by Anonymousreply 28April 29, 2018 4:13 PM

My theory, r28 is that it doesn't get promoted bevause it is way too gay and waaay too black.

Whereas when one of Bruce Springsteen's keyboardist's cousins plays one note on his keyboard, reams of column inches swoon.
