What's a yellowbone?

I saw that term on another thread.

by Anonymousreply 49April 20, 2018 11:51 PM

A light skinned black person.

by Anonymousreply 1April 14, 2018 12:45 AM

Also known as a red bone too.

by Anonymousreply 2April 14, 2018 12:46 AM

Chris Brown is a yellow bone or red bone.

by Anonymousreply 3April 14, 2018 12:47 AM

[quote] Chris Brown is a yellow bone or red bone.

Fascinating. Is there a difference between yellow bone and red bone?

by Anonymousreply 4April 14, 2018 12:51 AM

Red bone and yellow bone is the same thing. In Black America red means yellow. So either one.

by Anonymousreply 5April 14, 2018 12:56 AM

Beyonce is also a red bone/yellow bone. Basically any Black person who happens to be light skin.

by Anonymousreply 6April 14, 2018 12:57 AM

Redbone

Redbone, the correct terminology, is a black person who has red undertones in their hair and skin. Usually light or light caramel but not always. They just have reddish hair and skin.

BUT!!! It's NOW used to describe a particular look that occurs in African Americans. Each culture has their own term for this look. In Cuba its: 'Haba' or 'mulatto'. Usually light light complexion.

[quote] In Black America red means yellow.

How is that if red and yellow are different colors?

by Anonymousreply 8April 14, 2018 1:00 AM

A Yellow Bone is the lightest type of light skinned black female. They can often be very rare to see in comparison to other blacks because there are not as many of them in the general black population. They are usually mixed with white, something similar, of multiple races including black, or may just have another race mixed into their family tree which causes them to be very very light. Their skin usually has a yellow-tan, yellowish-red, or yellowish(almost caucasion- white) look to it.They usaually have hair texture ranging from the typical black female hair texture to natural tight curls, loose curles, wavey, or even caucasion-white looking hair textures. They are can many times have lighter hair and eyes. Many mixed, multiracial, and bi-racial females are often called Yellow Boned in the black community due to them fitting this discription. Many times a light skinned black can be considered to be both Yellow Boned and Red Boned if she is light enough to be Yellow Boned but still can fall into a tan or redish complextion catagory. So alot of Yellow Bones can also be considered to be Red Bones but not many Red Bones can be considered Yellow Boned. ( yes this can sound complicated if your not familiar to it) They can often even look some what like spainish females but they ARE black. *** Some examples are MARIAH CAREY (her father is a BLACK hispanic), ALISHIA KEYS( who is light enough to be considered Yellow Bone but can also be called Red Boned because she often appears yellowish red, or sometimes reddish-tan), BEYONCE's mother is Yellow Bone( Beyonce is Red Bone), and Kimora Lee Simmons (founder of Baby Phat)

Keep in mind OP these are not technical or official terms. None of this is written in stone. These ideas are very much subjective.

I personally prefer this Redbone:

Once again, a red bone is a light skinned black man or woman. Not necessarily mixed. But light skin like beyonce or anyone else with waffle color skin.

R8 you have to understand the culture in order to get it. If you don't mind me asking what color are you Op?

by Anonymousreply 11April 14, 2018 1:13 AM

R11, I'm just a very basic white guy largely of English decent. I have both dual US and UK citizenship.

by Anonymousreply 12April 14, 2018 1:16 AM

R12 OK that makes a lot of sense. Especially the UK info.

by Anonymousreply 13April 14, 2018 1:22 AM

Are there any white or Hispanic people that are considered yellow bone or white bone or is those terms limited to black people?

by Anonymousreply 14April 14, 2018 1:26 AM

Isn’t Kimora Lee just plain Asian?

by Anonymousreply 15April 14, 2018 1:29 AM

Cardi B is yellow bone.

Her song Bodak Yellow refers to her being yellow.

It borrows the flow from a rap by the darkskin rapper Kodak Black.

"A yellow bitch / With green hair / a real weirdo." - Gucci Mane

by Anonymousreply 17April 14, 2018 1:44 AM

When i was a sheltered white kid in college one of my best friends from high school was a white girl with a black roommate at college.

Her roommate, who was a doll, was "fat" by white 90s suburban standards. She was also super light skinned, with a light amber natural hair color and green eyes.

Anyway, I remember thinking she must have trouble meeting guys being "chubby" but actually she had to beat them off with a stick. All the hot black guys werw super into her.

Why?

by Anonymousreply 20April 14, 2018 1:54 AM

People usually say "high yella" (or yellow) and redbone. I think "yellow bone" is far less common.

by Anonymousreply 21April 14, 2018 2:15 AM

R20, I think R18 was pretty specific: "she was super light skinned . . ."

by Anonymousreply 22April 14, 2018 2:36 AM

What is this, Mandingo?

by Anonymousreply 23April 14, 2018 2:45 AM

[quote]Isn’t Kimora Lee just plain Asian? No. Her mother is Japanese, though raised in the US. Her father is African American.

by Anonymousreply 24April 14, 2018 2:48 AM

Look up "brown paper bag test."

by Anonymousreply 25April 14, 2018 2:51 AM

At a nursing home I worked at many years ago, the women - all African American - would stand around and talk about men.

One cute guy on staff had it bad for one of the nurses. But they all were mean to him because he was dark-skinned. They called him "Midnight." The object of his affection said, "I don't go with any Midnight. I like me about a quarter to six."

by Anonymousreply 26April 14, 2018 2:56 AM

Yeah to my white 90s kid eyes, she was too fat to garner attention.

Being really into cute lightskinned women with some cushion was A Black Thing I did not understand.

To me a darkskinned but slender girl would be far more beautiful.

This was way before big asses were a pop culture thing.

by Anonymousreply 27April 14, 2018 5:17 PM

Ok OP google it and stop stirring up race threads.

Think about how evil that is. To intentionally stir up hatered for another race as if they haven’t been through enough.

by Anonymousreply 28April 14, 2018 5:22 PM

the rest of you posters are absolute fools if not sock puppets.

Gullible people are the worst.

by Anonymousreply 29April 14, 2018 5:22 PM

Take your meds, hon.

No one is being racist.

by Anonymousreply 30April 14, 2018 5:31 PM

True.

by Anonymousreply 31April 15, 2018 3:34 AM

There is some kind of troll who wants all discussion on Datalounge to revolve around white people, white artists, and white culture.

No one is stirring up hatred by talking about Black people.

by Anonymousreply 32April 17, 2018 8:36 PM

An asian person's 3 or 4 inch pene.

by Anonymousreply 33April 17, 2018 8:41 PM

Block and FF the racist-baiting troll.

by Anonymousreply 34April 17, 2018 8:46 PM

It's Poo Shoes doing this. Loves to post shit-stirring threads about race and sexual behavior when she's not refreshing the guest soaps and towels at her hotel maid job. Remember last week's "Should I blow a poz guy?" thread? She makes many of the comments in the threads too, spewing vitriol from all the most insane points of view.

The easiest way to shut these down is to post pics of her. Here's the classic. There are many more.

I've never heard "yellow bone" before. But I've heard "high yellow" all my life.

Fred Sanford told Lamont, when he was pissed Lamont was dating an Asian girl, "let her start with a high yella and work her way up".

by Anonymousreply 36April 17, 2018 11:04 PM

The trolls are the people who think discussing Black people and Black culture is per se racist.

Go back to your threads on the lead singer from Journey.

by Anonymousreply 37April 19, 2018 3:29 AM

R35, wrong troll. However I've noticed the attempts here by racial preoccupation troll to jigaboo this place up all for naught.

by Anonymousreply 38April 19, 2018 9:22 AM

[post redacted because linking to dailymail.co.uk clearly indicates that the poster is either a troll or an idiot (probably both, honestly.) Our advice is that you just ignore this poster but whatever you do, don't click on any link to this putrid rag.]

R21 and R36 I'm with you. I'm white but from the South and I've been around black people my whole life and I've never heard yellowbone before. I've heard Redbone and High Yellow plenty of times.

by Anonymousreply 40April 20, 2018 4:19 AM

Are there white yellowbones or redbones?

by Anonymousreply 41April 20, 2018 4:27 AM

So, DL experts, on the occasion of the upcoming anniversary of his untimely death: was Prince high yellow or redbone? Probably the latter?

That question never occurred to me before, but then again, I'm not obsessed with race...

by Anonymousreply 42April 20, 2018 7:32 AM

It's not said high yellow, it's said "high yella." A black/Southern descriptive (sometimes comedic) term for light skinned black. Someone "high yella" is Alicia Keys or Malcolm X or Halle Berry Colin Powell or Steadman.

For instance, a country Southern auntie or grandma can say "Git that high yella baby off my couch" or "That's one fine ass high yella negro Oprah got".

In the black community, high yellow or lighter-skinned women often get more desired by black men and are more preferential in white society than more ebony/black looking women. A Beyonce or Halle Berry would be seen as more desirable than an Oprah or Aretha. Rosa Parks was chosen as the face of the civil rights movement over a darker skinned woman who first refused to give up her seat for this reason

by Anonymousreply 43April 20, 2018 7:42 AM

Sondra and Denise were the high yella kids on The Cosby Show.

Rudy and Vanessa were the brown ones.

An often repeated joke was how the Cosbys were harder on the darker kids when they messed up (Theo, Vanessa, Rudy), but were softer on Sondra, Denise, and Olivia.

by Anonymousreply 44April 20, 2018 7:46 AM

Okay, and which would Prince have been?

by Anonymousreply 45April 20, 2018 7:54 AM

Both.

by Anonymousreply 46April 20, 2018 8:04 AM

I thought they were mutually exclusive categories, r46? Or at least that there is a difference?

by Anonymousreply 47April 20, 2018 8:16 AM

Prince is high yellow. Go back to his first performance on American Bandstand in '79.

by Anonymousreply 48April 20, 2018 8:25 AM

Well? Michelle Williams fiance???? White or yellow???
