What say you DL? Can he pass as straight?
Jim Parsons & Claire Danes are parents of a gender non comforming boy in 'A Kid Like Jake'

Uh no.
And what a godawful movie this looks to be.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | April 13, 2018 6:13 PM |
Lol not even to Ms Helen Keller. Such a limited actor, its a travesty the Emmys pick a favourite and keep giving them award after award
by Anonymous | reply 2 | April 13, 2018 6:14 PM |
We're to believe that Claire Danes would not only fuck but marry that?
by Anonymous | reply 3 | April 13, 2018 6:15 PM |
I can’t...I just can’t.

It actually looks good, and his being labeled transgender could be a stand in for many things. A good friend of mine had a daughter who was incredibly bashful and shy when she was younger, but my friend asked all of us to never tell her daughter that she WAS, indeed, shy, because the thought that the label would continue to dictate her behavior. We complied, and her daughter is now an incredibly smart, outgoing, fun fashion designer. So, this could be the same thing. You label a kid as transgender, and he will think of himself that way.

no...
by Anonymous | reply 6 | April 13, 2018 6:48 PM |
If Jim Parsons is spawning a kid, then it's going to be at least a Kinsey 7.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | April 13, 2018 7:07 PM |
Jim was great in "A Boi Called Jaden", about two gay guys who find a turd in a pool, adopt it and teach it sign language.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | April 13, 2018 7:23 PM |
She could pass for straightish in Hidden Figures but she wasn't called upon to speak or emote very often.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | April 13, 2018 7:24 PM |
Jim passed as straight for the last 10 seasons of the Big Bang Theory, but this? Um a hard No.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | April 13, 2018 7:50 PM |
R8 made me crack the fuck up.
There are some gay actors who are believable as straight.
He’s not one of them.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | April 13, 2018 8:01 PM |
He can pass as nerdy odd straight guy in a comedy. I don't think he can pass for regular guy straight in a drama.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | April 13, 2018 8:46 PM |
He really doesn't pass as straight in the Big Bang Theory either. The show completely jumped the shark when they made Sheldon into a sexual human being.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | April 14, 2018 12:33 AM |
The face that Parsons is out might add an interesting dimension to the movie, since, from the trailer, it seems like he is the one who is more upset that the son might be gay or trans.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | April 14, 2018 12:57 AM |
yo can't a boy catch a break
by Anonymous | reply 15 | April 21, 2018 7:45 AM |
His hunched posture doesn’t help either. Alan Alda had the same “hump” going and - even as a straight man - the most he could pull off was “sensitive heterosexual.”
by Anonymous | reply 16 | April 21, 2018 9:43 AM |
Wouldn't it be spelled "Jayke"?
by Anonymous | reply 17 | April 21, 2018 9:46 AM |
Priyanka Chopra? Nope, I’m out.

They literally had to rewrite his character. In the early episodes he's supposed to be normally functioning heterosexual, with references to his proficient masturbating and so on; but it's so obvious that they quickly realized he couldn't play that so they turned him into this embarrassing man-child. The way they wrote his developing relationship with Amy is tragic.
I like him a lot, though. I wish him well and hope he gets great roles in the future. He's a good actor.

I read a review that mentioned a scene where Danes' character blames the husband, or at least implies he's at fault, for the kid being non-conforming because he (the husband) is too effeminate or not masculine enough. So perhaps Parsons' casting is perfect.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | April 21, 2018 10:49 AM |
They are plenty of young straight Millennials out there today who seem just as gay as Jim Parsons.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | April 21, 2018 10:54 AM |
Here's the review:
"Parsons gets an opportunity here to assay a character very different from the nerdy, autistic Sheldon on The Big Bang Theory, a heterosexual man so very in touch with his own feelings and nurturing capacities that Alex, in a doozy of a marital shouting match at the film's climax, practically accuses him of turning Jake trans by being so effeminate himself."

He's cute. Red lips means pink hole.

I guess Claire is supposed to be the "evil TERF." Yawn.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | April 21, 2018 1:04 PM |
Jim Parsons playing straight? That's the funniest thing I've seen all week. I have no interest in trans propaganda so I'll skip this.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | May 1, 2018 12:12 AM |
I actually liked the movie very much. But, seriously, I kept waiting for Parsons character to turn out to be gay. Now that's not to say gay actors can't play straight characters but Parsons just reads gay in every movie he makes. Same with Neil Patrick Harris.

I'm fine with it as long as they don't force him to transition. I want kids to be able to express themselves however they choose and feel like. A gender non-conforming child is not the issue, the issue is parents trying to labeling said child. Let the child be free and play. All of the labels and other stuff can come later.

THIS. I preferred him as the hilarious asexual who was always grossed out by anything remotely sexual. I stopped watching after they paired him up with annoying Amy. It ruined the show for me.

Brad Pitt is not believable as straight
by Anonymous | reply 31 | July 18, 2018 1:11 PM |
His gayness can be seen from space.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | July 18, 2018 1:17 PM |
Love Parson and can't wait to see the movie. Octavia Spencer seems great, too.

No one does " About To Cry" like Danes.

Don't see this being discussed about closet cases? wonder why!?
by Anonymous | reply 35 | July 18, 2018 1:30 PM |
Jim Parsons cannot pass as straight in any assigned straight roles he plays. It has nothing to do with the fact that he is out. Some gay actors aren't believable.

Right...???
by Anonymous | reply 39 | July 18, 2018 5:32 PM |
Parsons actually reminds me a lot if my straight brother.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | July 18, 2018 5:36 PM |
r28, he didn't seem necessarily gay in Hidden Figures. But there was no reference to a home life or relationship in that role so it's hard to tell if I would have brought it our not.

One of my friends in kindergarten wore dresses till he was 4. He's a straight dude now. Where's his movie?
by Anonymous | reply 42 | July 18, 2018 8:08 PM |
He's an actor - I think he will do fine and as another posted, he appeared as straight (albeit odd) on the Big Bang Theory. Hope it is a success as it will show roles can be universal.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | July 18, 2018 8:24 PM |
R43 nothing about him is straight on big bang.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | July 18, 2018 8:28 PM |
R36 It has nothing to do with the fact that he is out.
It has a thing with him being out if he was closeted like most Hollywood it wouldn't be a problem for you and other trolls
by Anonymous | reply 45 | August 15, 2018 1:17 AM |
I've always loved him on BBT and I think he's hilariously entertaining on that show. But when I saw him as host of Saturday Night Live, where he had the opportunity to show his range in a variety of sketches ... well, he came off as a one trick pony. It seems that every character he plays is another version of "Sheldon."
by Anonymous | reply 46 | August 15, 2018 1:30 AM |
He was good in The Normal Heart
by Anonymous | reply 47 | August 15, 2018 1:31 AM |
Agree R47. I didn't get a Sheldon vibe from his character in The Normal Heart.
